The property manager contacted me back in May to notify me that they need access to my unit to investigate the source of a smell (read: dead rodent). I do not live in state, so I sent a copy of my key by FedEx, with the agreement he would mail my key back soon after. It has been over a month since I sent my key. I have still not received it and found out yesterday - after calling several times with no answer - the property manager delayed sending my key back and then, a week and a half ago, sent it by regular USPS. Not certified. Not tracked. By regular mail. The key to my unit. It does not take 7+ days for mail to reach me, even by USPS. Essentially, they lost my unit key. No one has followed up with me about their gross negligence.

All of the other storage facilities that I've used didn't require a 30 day notice. So when I went into the office to close my account, I was asked if I gave my 30 day notice. As she asked that, I vaguely remembered going over that when signing the contract with them. It was definitely my fault. I just want to warn people so they don't make the same mistake, because they will charge you an extra month. So I'm paying for a unit that I'm not even using. I signed up in February for a 15x5' unit advertised at $94 per month on a month-to-month agreement with an "introductory rate." What they don't clearly disclose is what your actual long-term rate will be. Four months later, I received notice that my rent is increasing by a staggering 88%, jumping from $94 to $177 per month effective in June. Yes, the fine print says rates can change after the introductory period and that rates could go as high as $282. But hiding behind fine print doesn't make an 88% increase reasonable. It feels deceptive, predatory, and designed to lure customers in with an attractive price only to hit them with massive increases once their belongings are locked inside. This is a terrible way to build customer loyalty and trust. I'm planning to speak with management, but unless they have a satisfactory explanation, I'll be moving my business elsewhere, likely to Stanford Ranch Storage across the street. If you're considering renting here, be extremely cautious. The price you sign up for may have little resemblance to what you'll actually be paying just a few months later. Shop around and read every line of the fine print before committing.
