I just spent a month in LA where I searched out good coffee and matching baked goods. I was pretty disappointed for the most part - especially with the baked goods. My flight landed and while I waited for my final flight home I went to find something to eat. I was so excited when I saw Purebread!! It really felt like I was home - even though I now live on the island and there isn't a Purebread within driving distance. I looked at everything but decided on a buckwheat sour cherry scone - it helped me put on about 20 pounds about 5 years ago when I was working in Vancouver. I had a boss who was a jerk (that's the nicest word I could come up with) and I used to do Purebread runs for my co-workers on a regular basis. Vancouver's best bakery - prove me wrong!!

Purebread back in the day (Hastings and Whistler were the only location) their items were very very good. As they grew, their baked goods aren't that great. It's lost its identity. After a flight, I picked up a coffee and a pastry. The coffee was meh and the cookie was something I didn't care to finish. YVR pricing is higher too. It's a skip for me.

Was hungry after my flight, have a few hours before checking into hotel, decided to get something to eat. Purebread has lots of sweet choices, not ready for that so chose the ham & cheese twist and a latte. The food was good, just very little ham and just a bit more of a trace of cheese. Staff was super friendly.

A bakery at the airport? Hmmmmm? So if popular Starbucks pulled out of this same exact spot - will Purebread succeed where an icon failed? Deep thoughts. Don't get me wrong - I am a fan of Purebread & all things bakery. The good news - YVR Airport is getting super busy again (as are airports worldwide) after that brutal Covid-19 period = more customers. Purebread comes to slay - so many options you can tend to forget that they sell coffee. My concern - how fresh is everything? So far so good. It's great to see the staff are so friendly despite dealing with hundreds of people all day. My current crush here - the Sour Cherry Cheesecake Bar. Easy to find - close to the famous Jade Canoe. Lots of public seating available. The decor of YVR is definitely supreme & relaxing. For more Purebread info - see my Purebread @ Gastown review.

They have a wide range of baked goods (cakes, cookies, dessert bars, scones, breads, sweet and savoury - a bit of everything), a few sandwiches, and coffee. There's a vegan sandwich and a few vegan baked goods. I think there might be a few baked goods that don't contain gluten, but this is probably not a safe place if you need true 100% gluten free because of cross contamination (nothing is packaged separately). They also have local soft drinks if you're not feeling coffee. The baked goods are delicious and fresh, and I like that they have some less common flavours - nothing super out of the box, just more than the basics, which is especially a treat to see at an airport. If you've been to any of the Purebread bakeries in Vancouver the city, the selection here is just as expansive. Unlike the other Purebread bakeries, the sandwiches here are prepackaged and cannot be warmed up, but my veggie sandwich was just fine served cold. I know the airport is a different sort of employment situation than the rest of the city, but given my very positive experiences at other Purebreads, I was still surprised that the two employees here on my most recent visit were not very friendly. The barista that served me wasn't overtly rude, just kind of short with me, but the other one was snappish to another customer who was having trouble paying with their card. I suspect it may have been a language thing but I still don't think anyone needs to be spoken to with the tone that this employee was using when they're just having a little trouble with the pin pad.

Overpriced and no decaf espresso, just decaf filtered coffee; however, their desserts look beautiful.

We tried the combo pack with Durian, Purple Yam, Chestnut, and Mango, and every bite was delightful. The mochi wrapping is impressively thin, with a pillowy texture that makes each piece melt in your mouth. While I usually gravitate toward durian, the Chestnut and Purple Yam stole the show. You can really taste the effort and pride in the chestnut puree--it's smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. The staff are warm, friendly, and clearly proud of their craft, which adds to the charm of the experience. This is absolutely one of those places worth lining up for. If you're in the mood for artisanal mochi that's made with care, Car's Dessert should be at the top of your list.

Since their shop opened, I have found similar types of Chinese bread in other shops; however, I have never changed my opinion that this shop offers one of the best Chinese bakeries in the Lower Mainland. I visited this bakery again and tried the chocolate bread this time. It seems to be a new product. It was another amazing one. The chocolate sponge on the outside was very fluffy and soft, and the bread inside was chewy and soft. It seems they might use rice flour or something similar. Anyway, I was amazed by their products again. Their signature items, such as pumpkin bread, taro bread, and pork floss bread, are a must-try. The bread's texture is so soft and chewy, and the fillings are perfectly balanced. Compared to before, the prices have increased a bit; however, their bread is worth trying if you have a chance to visit Richmond.

The flavor is different, and I use this one to compare to others. However, we were able to find a spot and enjoyed the dish in the store. The rice noodle roll was really solid - they're not mushy like other places and they are easy to take apart. The soy sauce complements well with the dish and the beef is quite flavorful. I'd definitely come back here if I am craving rice noodle rolls. The only challenge is parking as half of the already tiny parking lot is reserved for staff and you'll be fighting for parking even at off lunch hours around 2pm.
