Wow. Amazing food. I got the fried fish plate with mac and cheese , rice , and cheese fries. It also comes with coleslaw. My partner got the Chiken sandwitch with a lettuce bun with huspuppies and sweet potato fries. When I tell you that food was amazing. It really was. We also got a serving of the soul rolls which were beyond my expectations. The vibe was nice in the restaurant they were playing soothing music. I ordered online and picked it up. I got a text saying that my order was ready so I didn't have to stand around and wait. I would go again. It is a pricy but the food was worth it. Everything here is fantastic. The wife and I ate here twice during our short visit to Durham so we could try as much as possible. And the staff was SO kind to us, especially on our first visit when we were having problems with our rental car. The standout dishes are definitely the cornbread with hot honey and the NC BBQ plate. This review is based off of my take out delivery experience only! My husband and I were recovering from being sick so we ordered delivery from Soul Food after seeing that our friends shared an article about this restaurant. The food arrived nicely packaged and was quite possibly the best tasting vegan meal I have had in the Triangle! I got the Chicago burger with mac and cheese on the side and my husband got the NC BBQ Plate. I ALMOST CANNOT TELL MY BURGER WAS NOT REAL BEEF! And you can't even tell that the cheese in the burger isn't dairy!!! I am mindblown and it was a delicious burger that I wolfed down in less than 10 minutes hence why I don't have any pictures! The mac and cheese was also good, and did not have any artificial taste to it like the previous vegan place I tried! My husband's bbq plate was also delicious! I can tell the meat wasn't real, but it was still delicious!! He got collared greens and slaw along with cornbread, which were all pretty good as well! It was flavorful, smokey, and juicy. They slaw was everything slaw is supposed to be and perfect on top. The kale cesar salad was crisp and tangy with crispy chickpeas instead of croutons. We made the drive from Cary to Pure Soul this week after my lovely wife purchased a gift card. My brother was visiting from overseas. I am the only plant based eater in our group of four. I love anything egg roll to begin with but these vegan items paired well together in an egg roll form. The burger tasted like other vegan burgers I've had before. This place is a vegan paradise with food that is amazing. I got the vegan wings and also a side of the fresh squeezed lemonade and it may have been one of the best meals I've had! They use a toothpick in the wings to make it more realistic and the rice is also very well flavored. They also have other condiments such as vegan ranch which pairs well with the wings. I kinda love this place. A lot. Thankfully, I live quite far away and so I cannot go totally broke eating here every day. But a trip to Pure Soul is often how I reward myself for being a good boy. Heh. As I have said in other reviews, I'm a plain old lacto-ovo-vegetarian -- not a vegan. However there really is no such thing as a "vegetarian restaurant"... except vegan joints. I find them exceedingly comforting, even though I don't require the full vegan Monty. What's more, I LUUUV vegan places that put in the extreme effort necessary to tickle the fancy of customers, like me, who have given up meat but miss the comfort provided by the dishes we grew up eating. To that end, Pure Soul SCORES THE POINTS. The NC BBQ plate with slaw and 2 sides is where you should start (I recommend the mac&cheese. The potato salad is also a straight up classic. You can't miss, though, no matter which sides you choose.) Like the BBQ, the "fried chicken" is good either as part of a similar "plate" or as a sandwich. All the "sandwiches", in fact, are terrific, whether BBQ, chicken, burgers, etc. They are served with nice homemade pickles and can be had with dynamite fries (with or without vegan "cheese"). Also, I've yet to meet a staff member who wasn't exceptionally helpful and pleasant. What more could you want? Oh, like many restaurants in these pandemic-adjacent times, just be sure to check the hours of business before heading out. Enjoy! read more
