The 2 stars are for the riverfront atmosphere, French fries, and the friendly waitress. There is very little, and less since they changed their menu, vegetarian entrée selection. They did have a lack luster wrap - which I would not order again. Vegetarian food is no longer just for vegetarians. You can at least get a plant-based burger at most other restaurants, including some fast food chains. Please take a clue from some more progressive restaurants where salads, pastas and some other entrees are now priced without meat, where you can add meat if you want at an additional cost. read more

Not recommended. The service was shotty at best. You know when your server has her hair all disheveled, no makeup on and talks like she is conversing with her best buds?? Doesn't make you feel confident in your service for the evening. (BTW, addressing a couple by "Guys" doesn't fly in a seemingly nice establishment like Pullmans) When the girl brought out the bread, there was no butter. Strike 1. When she brought our food (which took 34 minutes for two chicken entrees), the plates were stinkin hot, but our food was cold. Strike 2. My date asked for a beverage which she never brought out. Wonderful seafood! Had the grilled haddock and slaw for supper and it was delicious. My table mates all had different menu items and there were no complaints. Went with a very large group. We preordered our meals from 4 choices our group decided on. We waited an hour and a half for our meal. When it did come out it was slow. Some were completely done eating before others received their meals. There were also 2 other large groups in the same area this was happening to. If your kitchen is unable to meet that type of volume you shouldn't book that many large groups at the same time. Extremely disappointed. Our food was mediocre. read more

Food was great, but our server was fantastic!!! John was brand new, but he did a fine job of serving us. We could have asked for a better waiter. John built rapport with my kids, and more importantly with my mother. My mother ordered so many different kinds of soups, and John was very patient and nice to her. We will be back. This is a nice setting on the river. The beer and drink selection is good. However the food is just too heavy. I had cedar plank walleye which was so buttery & cheesy I couldn't really taste the fish. My roommate's family visited us in Appleton yesterday (we're summer interns), and we were looking for a place to eat. Asked for recommendations from three people on the sidewalk - they were together, and all of them said "Pullman's" simultaneously without even looking at each other. So I guess that made me expect something way better. The food was pretty good, but I feel like my mom could make something more delicious. I had the Chicken Marsala - a new item on the menu. I was disappointed that it wasn't hot. Not even warm, really. It wasn't enough for me to ask them to reheat it since I've eaten many home-cooked, room-temp meals before... I'm used to it. Besides, they had a packed house that night. The dining room and the outdoor seating was pretty full. (I guess I'm pretty forgiving?) The flavors made up for it. The portobello mushrooms were good, and so were both of my chicken breasts. They were fairly tender but not juicy. I was just happy it wasn't dry. My roomie and the three others with us really liked their food though - Bruschetta Chicken and Tenderloin. I enjoyed their desserts (we got the Tuxedo and the chocolate cheesecake) more than my entree. The sugar snap peas I got on the side were yummy too, nice and crisp. read more

Our first time here. Although our service started out a little on the bumpy side given the waitress said it was her first time serving by herself, it was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, atmosphere was pleasant. Still was waiting to see some lobster in the lobster bisque soup which the waitress served with the meal instead of before, but I was polite with her being her first time. Portions were more than expected. I had the perch platter and it had 5 pieces on it along with the very large baked potato. My wife had the chicken cordon blu and it was very delicious and like with the perch was more than enough. Would definitely recommend it and will return. The building and location is an absolute gold mine; unfortunately the food does not live up whatsoever. It seems prepackaged and just microwaved. I question if anything on this menu is made from scratch. The pecan salad was an absolute joke having 5 short little strips of dry, plain, unseasoned chicken with some ground up pecans dropped loosely on top. This salad was $11.99! I expected MUCH more. The BLT was just okay. The tomato basil soup and french onion soups were actually good. I would say that next time we go there I'll just order the soup... but after many previous poor food quality experiences at this restaurant and its sister restaurants in Appleton (Good Company, Beefeaters) there will NOT be a next time. I could make any prepackaged meal from the grocery frozen food section and it would taste much better and cost far less.. We only went this last time to use up a gift certificate that we had received. Done! read more

Decent Food. Server seemed like she had been working there too long, not friendly and seemed pre-occupied. I don't think she smiled once. She asked what sides I wanted with dinner, and when my dad got the bill, we were up charged for them. She made it sound like it came with the meal. It's not the extra money, it's the principle. I study wine, and have worked in restaurants all my life---the bill was still well over a $100 for 4 people. I was home visiting my family for the first time this year, and it while my dad was understanding; it left a sour taste in my mouth of the place. Just ate at Pullmans at Trolley Square​ and had a caterpillar in my sisters snow peas. I talked to the ASM John and he basically did not care. He told me they wash everything they serve and when I asked if he truly washed all the snow peas, he said YES. I asked is he washed the caterpillar before they steamed it and he got upset at me and said he didn't want to talk about it any more. The bill came to over $200 and the food was not very good. BE WARNED....stay away from Pullmans unless you want bugs in your food and a horrible attitude from the staff. read more

Pullmans is a great restaurant on the shores of the Fox River. Near downtown Appleton, the decor is attractive, and the food is great. Recently, with the help of Tim, their General Manager, we set up a surprise dinner for our wedding anniversary. Several years ago, our wedding reception was held there, and Tim ensured we had the same table as we sat at that night, white linen table cloths, and candlelight - all arranged in advance by phone, as we do not live in Appleton at present. My wife had the Salmon and it was terrific. I had the tenderloin steak and it was great as well. Prices good. Our waiter Brandon was excellent as well. A perfect evening. read more

Hubby had business dinner here w/group of 50. He couldn't wait to take me there for dinner. Well...after tonite's meal it has gone down even in his initial estimation. Started w/jumbo shrimp cocktail. Shrimp obviously frozen, not fresh. But then this is a "corporate" chain that incl. places like Fuddrucker's; so much of their food is purchased "corporate". The bread they brought to our table was two strangely formed dinner rolls (Pillsbury?). Tasteless and barely warm. My entree was King Crab Legs. When server arrived w/plates she cautioned us, "Be careful. These plates are hot!" I had to move my plate towards me...cold. The crab was also stone cold and rubbery. The butter that comes w/it is in a small stoneware bowl and it started to congeal before I finished my meal. The Roasted Red Pepper/Tomato soup was good. Then again, it probably came in a "corporate" sanctioned tub or bag and all they had to do was open it and heat. Hubby had steak and crab legs. He said steak had good flavor but he had asked for it med.-well and it came a lot pinker and bloody. Also...one of his crab legs was EMPTY!!! No crab meat, just one long empty leg. (They pre-crack these. Someone in kitchen must have been hungry...) Altogether very disappointing meal. We both agreed...this place off our to-dine list. read more

My wife and I went to Pullman's with our children for lunch on 6/21/15. This was one of the worst dining experiences we have had. My wife ordered a pecan chicken sandwich. They brought her a fish sandwich. I ordered a Southwestern wrap. The chicken in the wrap was terrible. I can normally choke down a bad sandwich or wrap or burger, but I had to spit this back out on my plate. This would not have been that bad if we would have been able to order a different meal. But after we received our entree it was a good 30 minutes before our server came back to check on us. By that time our kids were done eating, my wife and I finished off what the kids didn't eat of there meals. And there we sit with our plates full and two bites gone. When we explained to the server our disappointment, he offered to get us a new meal, but we did not have time (and I was not confident that it would be any better). He said that he was going to get the manager. 15 minutes later he brought us the check, and took off the cost of the meals (that we couldn't eat). I have been to Pullman's before and have had decent service, and good food. With the unpleasant experience today, we will not go back. The only reason I gave them a 1 star, is because I could not figure out how to give 0 stars. read more

We went to Pullmans for dinner during Restaurant Week, an opportunity for restaurants to put their best foot forward. I was disappointed. The service was so-so: the waiter did not seem to know the menu or the drinks menu well; our appetizer plates were not removed before the entrees were brought out, and when I asked the server who brought the entrees to take the appetizer plates, he said someone else would take care of them soon; we were not offered drink refills or water refills. The food was also mostly so-so. My "black and blue salmon" was basically a piece of salmon with some fruit jam on top; the wild rice and asparagus sides were just ordinary. My husband's baked potato was topped with awful cheese sauce and the broccoli was nothing more than steamed broccoli; his steak was tough. Bear in mind, these were Restaurant Week features -- should have been special. The biggest disappointment came when my flourless chocolate cake turned out to be not flourless cake but a sort of chocolate mousse cake the likes of which can be found in many grocery store delis. read more

We went with a group of 6 people for dinner on a Friday night. The place has a very nice view of the river with outdoor seating as an option. Other than that, everything else about this place needs to be improved. There are too many great restaurants in the valley that will give you better service and food for your dollar. Our night began by registering with Lana, the hostess and the manager of the restaurant. She gave us a buzzer to alert us when our table would be ready. After 45 minutes, I returned to Lana and asked her how much longer our wait would be. She asked for my name and she was not able to locate my name on her list. I pointed out to her where my name had been written down on the paper. It was apparent that the paper with my name had been thrown away in the garbage. Not good, especially if you are overseeing the restaurant and you are the hostess and manager as Lana said she was. At this point, Lana put our name back on the list and she told us she would buzz us as soon as possible. Everyone in our group was willing to stick around. When our buzzer went off our group proceeded to the hostess. We were told they had a table for 2 people not 6. I explained that when we originally registered we registered for 6 not 2 people. We were told at this point it would be another 10 minutes before we could be seated. After what we had been through we were never offered an apology. I asked Lana if she would be willing to give us a complimentary drink as we continued to wait. She said it wasn't her fault and she refused to give us any complimentary drinks. At this point we decided to leave and never return to this establishment due to their decision to treat us the way they did. What is unfortunate is we know who the owners are and can't believe they would allow something like this to happen. Hopefully This behavior will not carry over to their other restaurants, Good Company and Beef Eaters. read more

This is a nice place to have lunch on a summer afternoon. I took my son here after exploring the paper museum and we sat on the patio and were able to enjoy a nice meal beside the river. Pullman's is an absolute waste of a great location and awesome outdoor seating. I've had bad food before but was shocked at how awful it was. It felt as if everything was microwaved. They need to get some skilled cooks and get it together. They could have a really good thing if they put any effort whatsoever into their food. If you like this place, get your taste buds checked or actually branch out beyond Applebee's to see what good food actually tastes like. read more
