Who expects half empty English muffins as part of their Eggs Benedict?
    Deb T.

While the optimistic foundation-premis-backstory on this eatery is Wonderful- my personal dining experience here actually gives me bad dreams. Whilst choosing a seat at a table having a stellar view of the Thames River, it was by happenstance located close to the kitchen. Which rang out visions of a torture chamber. Grunting, moaning, crying and what might have been slamming chairs along with scraping, dragging on the floor of the same. When my food arrived, good thing I'd already lost my appetite. As you can see by my pictures there was barely 2 bites of the Americas thinnest ham laying under the poached Benedict. The underlying English muffin was cold and dry. The eggs which looked like perfection on a plate were grossly over cooked, warm, but chalky, and very small. The accompanying potatoes reheated to the point of no return to edibility. Hard gravely looking much more appealing than they should have as I nearly broke a tooth trying not to discard it in my napkin. Service was attentive, and paying was a pleasure-(quick n easy) only because I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I've had in the past, experience at the Ladd School and worked at Dempsey Regional Center, with patience and tolerance... I believe in the project and process. But, I would-COULD- never recommend this restaurant. Unless of course you'd care to embrace the background noises of torture and mayhem in the scullery or need a little help with overindulging your dietary intake for the day. Me? I'd rather buy some Hollandais and just make my own or spread my encouragement and dollars elsewhere. This is my first poor review. And honestly, I find no pleasure in sharing it- but, like you, I depend upon the honesty of my fellow Yelpers for true and honest advice. So, yeah, I AM going to share my experience, here....reluctantly.

Patience and Good Food in the Menu! Stopped in because of the stars for reviews. Didn't read any of them because i like to decide for myself. Stopped in around 11am, for a late breakfast. Beautiful views of the River and Groton /New London waterfront area, from the indoor dining area. Also, Definitely a plus since it is near work. The staff is very kind and helpful. Simple menu that made it easy to choose what I wanted to eat. Coffee was in a large cup, which is great for those who like a big hot cup of coffee. Enough to have a great conversation with those you come with or surf the web a bit in the WIFI, while waiting for your meal. Creamer came in a little pourer. Sugar alternatives on the table. A relaxing, slow pace, to enjoy your meal. I ordered the number one. Two eggs over medium, bacon, home fries and the cranberry toast. Definitely a twist on toast, which was tasty!!! If you are like me and need a to go box, ask one of the staff to get you a box. Each person working has their own task, so just ask one and they will help you out. Good for small groups or singles. Classic Mom and Pop Style restaurant with nautical and coastal decor and views from each seating area. Indoor and outdoor seating, depending on the season. Plenty of parking! ****** So, i looked at the sign holder in my table, thinking it had a special on it. Nope. It had the business description and information about the restaurant and employees. So, this place, headed by Sea Bird Enterprise Inc., is a vocational training program for those with physical and developmental disabilities. I absolutely loved their mission statement! Picture included. My sister is deaf, had to go through a similar program, when she was starting out working, as a teenager. I want to thank those who are running this program. Patience is a virtue here and it will give you a good feeling, knowing you are part of a learning environment for some great people!

Quaint lil spot for breakfast and lunch with a beautiful view of the waterfront . This restaurant is run by Special Needs employees who takes your order ,cleans and serves your food with some extra care. They take pride in their work performance and it shows . I had everything I asked for and even a few good conversations & a newspaper I didn't know I needed ,but was given to me in case I wanted to have one . I had two eggs with bacon & homefries and it was very good and cooked perfectly. I definitely recommend you trying this place out and see it for yourself. Friendly ,fast and for everyone !!!!!

When asked for a milk for coffee, we got this!

This is different kind of experience.. an experience for life rather. I am so surprised to see that this place gives an opportunity for special needs, and also these kids know what they are doing. I dined here on my visit at Mystic , with my husband and 18 months old son, I am happy to see such people and glad been here. The eggs were fine and my son enjoyed his crispy bacon with a toast smeared with butter. Myself had the eggs benedict with avocado (instead of ham) and husband had omelette with veggies (instead of meat). There was some confusion while ordering, since we always have special requests to substitute veggies instead of any meat in eggs at any restaurant, and later the host assisted our server and all went smooth.

Cute breakfast spot right on the water. Nice & peaceful, and great service! Their bread is amazing, i never care for the toast & it was so good I'd go back for that! I tried the cranberry walnut. Their potatoes were cooked with really nice flavor & overall I really enjoyed my meal & can't wait to go back!

Eggs over easy with pastrami hash and cinnamon toast.

I wanted to find a new venue for breakfast and I was successful. We drove from the Groton New London Airport and found this lovely place overlooking the Thames River. I had read about their signature pastrami hash and so we ordered eggs with hash browns and cinnamon toast. It was delicious as was the wonderful service, cleanliness and ambiance. My friend was equally impressed with Puffins......we'll definitely be there again.

Think dependable weeknight dinner, not destination dining. You'll leave full, but you won't be talking about it later. TO BE FAIR THE WINGS WERE FIRE And I WENT ON A MONDAY…read more I'm giving this place 3/5 stars because the food was great, the hostess was extremely attentive but I simply did not get the full experience of the location due to the time and day. Therefore, I will need to revisit to give a better review. I visited The Blue Duck this past Monday, on Presidents' Day at happy hour. I got there around 3 and left just before 5. The wings were 5 for a little over $5 or something like that. Which honestly $1 wing in this economy! Excellent for my pockets. Anyways, the place was quiet, a few people did start coming in as I was leaving, and again, I came on a Monday. Not really a peak bar day. But I would say the location is near the water which is a plus. The seating area at the bar was massive. I'm curious to see how busy it gets on the weekend. This isn't necessarily and instagramable/ social media picturesque kind of spot. Ok, so the wings- I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH- they were AMAZING . I love it when the skin after being smothered in sauce is still crispy. And they were! The blue cheese wasn't liquidity or too chunky. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The best part- for me- is that they were the shoestring kind of fries. I'm not big on the steak fries or thicker cuts. They were salted just right! No condiments needed for dipping. I ordered two drinks, which I honestly wasn't too impressed by. But it's my bad. I probably should have stuck to shots or basics like A sour of some sort. Idk. The other drinks could be delicious. Overall the only reason at this point that I'm coming back is the wings. Truthfully, the only reason I traveled 45 minutes to New London was after seeing an IG post about all-you-can-eat wings on Mondays. Sadly they aren't doing that anymore.

Really promising in terms of decor, but a big let down for the food…read more The $8 charge in chicken was ridiculously high, moving a platter of nachos from $15 to $23, for chicken that is not particularly flavorful nor plentiful. We got a platter of nachos and the only exciting thing was the sheer size of it: one platter served five people, with some more to spare. The nachos were dry, flavorless, and was almost like dipping chips into a generic grocery store queso. All the vegetables were raw, so it didn't add much to the dish. I'd recommend really seasoning at least one element of the tray, like the vegetables, and it would have been decent. The Nashville fried chicken sandwich was spicy without flavor. Another massive portion size with plenty of fries, but nothing I would order again. Sweet Thai chili sauce that came with the Brussels sprouts had the texture of wet corn starch that had been mixed in with a bottled chili sauce--gloopy and oddly too sweet.

Tip: Delicious burgers and hand cut fries Tip 2: this place is situated between two small building so you can miss it. They also have a decent craft beer selection. I can give the place enough props. Half Keg Tavern is a historic neighborhood tavern that opened in New London, Connecticut in 1946…read more The tavern is housed inside a converted Quonset hut, which was likely picked up cheaply at the conclusion of World War II. The Half Keg stands out from other Connecticut drinking establishments in that it is technically a tavern as opposed to a bar. What's the difference? Bars can serve just about anything (including hard liquor), whereas taverns (once known as "public houses" back when residents were still British subjects) are places that can serve only beer, wine, cider, and food if they choose. At the time the Half Keg opened, there were maybe 700 taverns in Connecticut. Today, less than 10 Connecticut drinking establishments operate under a tavern license. A number of different owners have come and gone at the Half Keg, including longtime owners Ron & Maryann DiNoto. Since October 2016, the Half Keg has been owned and operated by Teresa Stomberg and her son David Donatello. The tavern serves a variety of domestic and foreign beer as well as a food menu of fresh handcrafted burgers, grinders, and a variety of bar bites. I recently visited the Half Keg for lunch while I was in the New London area. I arrived not long after they opened for the day. I pulled up a seat at the bar and began to peruse the menu. I first ordered a plate of "Fried Pickles", which were on the specials menu that day. Served with a dipping sauce, they were hot, crispy and very flavorful. I washed them down with a draught pour of Samuel Adams' "Summer Ale". Afterwards, I ordered a "Garlic & Onion Burger" (garlic & onion seasoned burger on a a garlic-buttered roll, slice of raw onion, lettuce, tomato) with a side of "Hand Cut Seasoned Fries". Don't expect anything particularly fancy here. It's just good, old-fashioned home cooking. No frills, no fuss; just fresh ingredients and good flavor! I washed my burger and fries down with a draught pour of Two Roads Brewing's "Two Juicy" (Double New England IPA). That lunch really hit the spot. I'd be interested in trying out one of their grinders on a return trip. If you're in the mood for a good sports game paired with a cold beer, good food, and the company of friendly locals, then head to the Half Keg!

Collectively - two pizzas, three orders of wings, and a Ceasar salad. We also went to the bar to get drinks. Then we got our own paper plates, napkins, and plasticware. Buzzer went off for one of us about ten minutes later. Pizza. Then 5 minutes later, another's. Wings. Not one person's whole order, but piecemeal. We made SIX separate trips from the front where we were sitting all the way to the back. So it was grab a bite of pizza - BUZZZZZZ - go get salad - a few mouthfuls - BUZZZZZZ - one order of wings - this dance went on for a half hour! Who eats like that? Salad was warm, drowned in anchovy forward dressing and limp lettuce. Asked for extra crispy wings. Flaccid. Super bummed. We had to go back to place our order, get our own tableware, set the table, and then pick up the food... If we had known all this I don't know that we would each have left a 20% tip after ordering. Received more care and service at a DD drive through. Pizza itself was great - just cold by the time we got all our food and were able to sit still and eat. So... all in all - great atmosphere to grab a beer at the bar and yak or order ONE pizza so you all could actually enjoy it warm. Group each wanting something different or expecting food brought to you - not the spot. Just go with the right expectations and you will enjoy.

There is parking right in front of the restaurant and the public parking lot behind the restaurant as well that is a short walking distance to the restaurant. I've come in 3 times to this location so far but the wait staff and times for food and drinks are pretty consistent. The wait staff can get distracted and aren't very observant. We sometimes have to ask multiple servers for the same thing since they'll get distracted and forgot what we asked them. For example, we asked for utensils from our waitress, she was stopped by a patron and forgot we asked for utensils. She proceeded to wait on tables after speaking to the patron. My husband tried to get the attention of the 2 staff members in front of us but neither heard him so I had to get up to get someone's attention to be able to eat our appetizer. We had to ask 2 people for boxes since we asked a wait staff for boxes, she walked pass them and proceeded to bus tables. The food and drinks are great though. We got there on a Saturday late morning at 1049am. The place was packed so completely understandable and the hostess advised it'd be 10 to 15 minutes before a server would even wait on us, which was pretty accurate. We didn't leave until 12:21pm between time to get our food, drinks, boxes, and pay the check. I've had the shrimp and grits, water street avocado toast, the birdie trio, friend green tomatoes, and the drunken master on a skillet. The food is delicious overall. The fried green tomatoes were a tad on the salty side but with the chutney they made it was pretty balanced. The birdie trio was delicious too and the opportunity to try all 3 on one dish is great! Between savory, sweet, and spicy. Perfectly crispy chicken and waffles. The shrimp and grits were on point too. Definitely a heavy meal so make sure you have or make space for it. The drunken master was good with tater tots. One thing I wish I had with it was some sour cream but overall it was good. I love that they have a flight option for coffee. It's not on the drinks menu so you'll have to ask for it. I wish that they still had passion fruit juice but they also have a mimosas flight option. I love the place, food, drinks, and atmosphere. I know they put on the menus that it can take at least 45 minutes for food but the print warning on the menu should be made on a sign posted in the front or at the host podium. Every guest seated should automatically be given a menu and utensils to make things easier. These are just a few tips that'll help ease things for the wait staff/patrons.
