For those of you who follow my reviews, I enjoy finding new Mexican restaurants and food trailers to put their Birria tacos to the test! This place was an epic fail. Despite other reviews on this place, the staff were actually all friendly and attentive. When I walked in I could tell that this place is no more than a bar with dine-in seating surrounding it. I didn't really find the Birria tacos on their menu however when I inquired about them the waiter stated that they have them. I didn't have to wait long for my food however from the moment my plate arrived it was sheer disappointment. My plate arrived with 3 "Birria" tacos but there was not much about these that said "Birria". They were prepared on flour tortillas that were completely soft with no sign of the classic melted cheese on the tortilla, no limes, and no dipping broth. Of course I asked for limes and broth. The "broth" that was brought to my table appeared to be watered down taco grease and tasted as such! The tacos had a fair amount of meat, onions, and cilantro in the tortilla but these were a far cry from an authentic Birria taco. When I received my check I would discover a charge of $16.08 for a plate of Americanized tacos. Meat was dry and quite tasteless. If you're looking for a place that does not serve authentic Mexican food with higher than a giraffe's nuts pricing then this is your spot!!! I will not be a repeat customer. read more

Service is always fast and always attentive but not too much. Everything was delicious when we went Sunday (Sept. 14), as always. This is one of our favorite places for the cozy family feel and great food, making it a great place to take the family when the kids are in town. The fajitas and flautas are two of our favorite dishes there. The vegetables in the fajitas are fresh , the flautist are crisp and never soggy or reheated, and the food is served hot and always flavorful. Very highly recommend. Do not waste your money. They were grumpy and dismissive right out of the gate, throwing the menus across the table and walking away. No AC or fans. Our water tasted like dish water. So they brought us bottled water for $2 a pop. Very poor service. One of us was served an inedible steak and shrimp. It was over cooked (they never asked how he wanted it) and un-cutable. The shrimp were likewise over cooked and like trying to eat a rubber ball. The waiter gruffly took it back but never offered to take an order for something else. So after all of us sharing from our plates so this person had at least a small meal, we were glad to be out of there. Totally disappointed and still hungry. Never any courtesy or apology. So we wanted to try something new, we found it per some friends suggestions. The ac wasn't working so it was pretty warm in the restaurant. The chips and the salsa was great. When we ordered our food the service was pretty good but we have definitely had better. I got slided chicken breast with chorizo, it was two thin chicken breasts with a single slice of chorizo laying on top of it. Tje wife got arroz con Pollo with mixed vegetables. Mixed veggies consist of green peppers and onion. So pretty much she got chicken fajitas with rice lol. The price was reasonable. I will say it was better than tequilaville that's the typical gfs food. read more

I truly think this is the best Mexican restaurant I have been to in awhile as far as service, portion sizes and price come into play. The atmosphere has little to desire but if you have ever been to Mexico and ate in a little town you would know this is actually how it is in Mexico lol so we can say this place is AUTHENTIC MEXICAN for sure. Kids split bean burritos and rice. Mom and Dad shared fajita mix of steak, chicken and shrimp ummmmm this is the largest portion for 2 we have ever been served and we eat a lot of Mexican food everywhere!! Pitchers of beer and margaritas were decently priced. Great lunch and happy hour specials. Will definitely return and do recommend!! read more

Get the fajitas. They offer coupons in the weekly mailer. Be sure to use those as this is a bit expensive for the quality of the food. The complimentary chips & salsa are fresh & warm. The ranch sucks. We typically get the fajitas for 2 which feeds 3. Just add an extra plate of the "salad," and tortillas. The taco salad is decent. We don't gravitate towards this place but it's not bad. read more

I work for Doordash & my last delivery for the day yesterday was from this restaurant. I like Mexican food so thought I'd give it a try. Maaannnn was it goooodddd! Got me a ground beef taco, shredded beef burrito combo with beans & rice. Also gave me free chips & salsa. Was just under $10. Not much to the burrito.. was more like an enchilada, but it tasted good! Was gonna sit in but as of last night the governor of Ohio outlawed any restaurants to allow dine in due to the Coronavirus. I love this place! I always have. It's a great place to get lunch after Sunday morning church or dinner throughout the week! The staff is very friendly and the food is amazing!! The prices are very reasonable and you get a large portion. I've been here many times and plan to go back many more! It's good that Newark has a great Mexican place like this! I've seen several other Mexican restaurants come and go, but Puerto Vallarta has remained stable over the years. Great job, Puerto Vallerta!! Te amo! :o) read more

It had been a couple years since we went to Puerto Vallarta. We used to go somewhat regularly, but something changed at some point, and the food was not nearly as good...less authentic, more commercial, and not as flavorful. I think that the final straw those couple years ago was the fact that there was no AC in use on the hot day we chose to visit. Well, what the heck, we decided to pay them a visit yesterday to have a margarita and maybe an appetizer or two. It was hot in there. As I write this poor review, I think it is important to note that I knew at the time that we should just turn around and walk out of there...but I was trying to remain positive, and that margarita sure sounded nice. Maybe I was just hot from being outside, and we would cool off once we sat and had a beverage. Nope. It was pretty uncomfortable. Our waitress noted the heat and joked about how they installed a fan for her to cool off as she worked. I also noted the heat, and I joked about how there are several ceiling fans that are not running. No AC, and they won't turn on ceiling fans? She was very nice, but she seemed uninterested in finding out why they were not at least running the ceiling fans. Apathetic service seems to be the expected norm these days, but it is still disappointing. I am not that old, but I do remember when most folks took pride in their work and how they presented themselves to customers. Still, she was nice enough, and the conditions are not her fault. It took too long for our food to arrive. We took a couple bites as we finished our second maragaritas and asked for boxes, so we could just take the food and get out of there. Sadly, the food (chimichanga, and steak dinners) was even worse than we had remembered. It is too bad - we really want to like them again, but we will likely never pay them another visit. read more

Wonderful family atmosphere with great food and service. I ordered two chimichangas off the ala carte menu and they were stuffed full of fresh tasting chicken. My mother ordered the spinach enchilada dinner. She gave it a 9 out of 10. The restaurant is very clean and warm. Blanca is very nice and attentive. We didn't wait long for our food. As a tip, stop at Kroger next door before coming here. The receipts have 15% off coupons printed on the back! read more

I rarely take time out of my day to post reviews for businesses but I wanted to make sure I expressed my dissatisfaction with this location of a Puerto Valletta! I would give a negative rating if this app allowed it; but I will never visit this place again. Without going into all the details, I could not get waited on (while sitting at the bar for several minutes) and when I finally did, the manager basically took my order in the passing (fish tacos). I asked another server if they were deep fried and he said, no! When I get them, they are deep fried. I told them I didn't want deep fried fish, the manager gets upset and wants to argue about what I ordered! Take time out for your customers and what they want! In times like these, I will gladly give my money to another business with "authentic" Mexican food! read more

Awful customer service. We were turned away when we walked in tonight for no apparent reason. The hours posted on the door said open until 10 pm and there were people eating inside. We walked in at 8:30 and the gentlemen said "sorry we're closed" and I asked him about the hours posted on the door and he said "no we're closing early to set up for tomorrow" on a Monday night at 8:30pm on May 6th? And they open for lunch tomorrow. What could possibly be so important they couldn't do tomorrow night or after close tonight? Why would they refuse us service? We had heard good things about this restaurant and finally gave it a try today. The place itself is typical of a Mexican place just about anywhere, but this one has a hand written sign that proudly proclaims, "Good news! We now serve beer on Sundays." Truly great news for the after church lunch crowd that quickly filled the joint. The complimentary chips and salsa were decent but far from noteworthy. The menu is decent with a variety of seafood dishes in addition to the more traditional dishes. The table next to us ordered fajitas that smelled great when they came out and the plates all around looked as expected. The first red flag was the list of fillings for the various dishes: seasoned ground beef, spicy chicken, and shredded pork. The food was just okay. I ordered a lunch special with a chile relleno (probably my favorite Mexican dish) and a shredded pork taco after having the waiter confirm that it was like a traditional carnitas. The taco was certainly not filled with carnitas. It was okay, but lacking any Mexican touch. The worst part was that the chile relleno was filled with mashed potatoes and none of the cheesy goodness that should be expected. My wife ordered chicken tacos and described them as bland and boring. My kids split a bean and cheese burrito and a cheese enchilada which were both below average. The first time I had it I had no clue what to get so I just went with the regular soft shell beef taco it was so freaking tasty!! Highly recommend this restaurant 10 out of 10. I really enjoy this location quite a bit. It's friendly and cheap and the food is very good. My favorite thing is the fajitas and my only complaint would be that you get 3 little tortilla shells. They give you so much of everything else, that you could probably fill 6-8 of those things! Which is really fine by me as it give me lunch for the next day as well. read more

We absolutely love this place. We eat here about once per week! They have a great arroz con pollo, which literally means chicken and rice. Our only complaint is the fresh salsa has been very runny. We do not go for the salsa so its no bother to us. We also love the generous portions. Often times, our food is spilling over the plate! The prices are fair and they have a large selection of dishes. Very authentic. Would be 5 stars if they would update the decor! Its very classic mexican. I would suggest this as a good place to bring guests from out of town! read more

We went there last night for a late dinner. They are open til 11 (at least on fridays) and though by the time we got there (9:45) it was mostly empty and they were beginning to clean up we did not feel rushed at all. In fact, the service was excellent, the waiter as right there whenever we needed something. My wife ordered the Long Island Iced Tea which was surprisingly strong and beef chimechanga (very good). I had the pollo loco which was good, but a little skimpy on the picco de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. The bast part was that with all of that plus 2 beers for me our total was still below $30. read more

I eat here 2-3 times a month. I used to eat here at least once a week. They provide free chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. I order the cheese dip which is always great. I love their taco salad fajita, arroz con carne, arroz con pollo, or the burritos. The food always comes out fast, consistent, and very hot. They offer a full bar, take credit cards and offer take out. The decor isn't awesome, but it's Newark. I love the servers, who know me by name and are always super friendly. If they make a mistake no questions asked, they will remake it in a heart beat...even if you don't like it. This is a great restaurant and is one of my favorite. read more

Don't waste your money. Go to the Puerta Vallarta in Pataskala, huge difference! Being regular and happy Pataskala customers, thought we would grab a bite to eat at the DEO DRIVE location. HUGE mistake. Chips were stale and the first basket actually had a used Sweet-n-Low wrapper IN it -NO LIE!. Margarita was not cold. Ordered my regular Vallarta Fajitas. Shrimp was "sandy", chicken was rubbery, steak was tough. It tasted way worse than my reheated leftovers do 3 days later. Asked for a glass of water -it never came. Our waiter was unpleasant and not having a good day. Worst $47 I ever spent! My 10% tip was a generous gift to this sour waiter and horrible food. WILL NOT BE BACK! That being said, we love love love PATASKALA Puerta Vallarta. DON'T GO TO DEO DRIVE. read more
