I'd never been to Yabo's Tacos before but we had some time so I stopped in to check it out. I ordered 2 Carolina Pork tacos- see the pic, and they were better than I imagined. See, I'm more of a traditional taco guy and have grown to like the soft tacos over time, but I've been hesitant to try other items I side besides ground beef. This restaurant is located in a small strip mall that has plenty of parking. When you enter there is the bar to the right and you go straight ahead, slightly to the left to order your food. I like that the menu is on the wall and it is straightforward. There's also a menu on the orders counter. There are TVs everywhere, a digital jukebox, and even a lotto kiosk. We chose the Bodacious Burrito, Yabo's Enchilada, and a Strawberry Margarita. Unfortunately, the rice was crunchy and we kept spitting out the kernels. I mentioned it and they said they would remake our orders, but I only asked them to make sure our to go order didn't have any rice. Wasn't very good I got chicken tacos and the chicken was in my opinion poorly flavored no note of mexican spice whatsoever. Also service wasn't good, I like the idea of ordering at the front and seating yourself but we then had to stand in line again to get our food and if you needed anything you had to wait behind people ordering at the front which takes forever we had to get up multiple times to ask for things. Yabo's Tacos are delicious, with many options and combinations of sauce. I'm a fan of the strawberry jalapeño and habanero! I love to order the meal kit. For $25, you get 12 tortillas (you pick corn/flour), your choice of meat, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, and sauces. I added sides of black beans and rice with street corn for my vegetarian. Teenagers loved making tacos from the kit, and I had enough meat left over to make nachos the next day. Staff are friendly. Nothing screams I want heat like a cold Christmas week. So here I am at Yabos again while finalizing my Christmas shopping. I have a feeling I should've gotten guac with my chips, but the salsa is good if not a tad spicy. Like I said, I need heat :). This trip, I got shrimp tacos, chicken, and steak. Something to relax with. New puppy shopping is hectic. Need bedding, good, toys, etc. So this is a welcome introduction. Now, as to the food: I'll agree with other reviewers, the chicken is a tad dry but not inedible. The shrimp tacos hit the spot, but the steak... Oh my Lord the steak was out of this world!! I don't know what the marinade was but it is the best I've ever had! I'm tempted to return for more after my trip to Meijer. I forgot to order the steak my usual medium rare, but I needn't have worried. It was the tenderest, most tasty piece of cow I think I have ever sank my teeth into. I was going to comment a little on the price of lunch, but I've paid more for less tasty steak at steakhouses. Will definitely return more often than annually, and I found a new favorite taco. I came here for lunch and it was a great experience! The staff is nice, the place is clean and the food is delicious. When you first walk in there are two sides to the restaurant(the desk to order for yourself or the bar side to get full-service). I dined in on the bar side and TJ was my server. He was very attentive. I ordered the Small Nacho($7), Steak Fajita Taco($5), and the Blackened Mahi Taco($5). They were all delicious but my favorite thing was the Nachos! The service is slightly better at this location. I had the margarita and the vegetable tacos for happy hour. It was about $7 for the margarita. This was pathetic. It came in a tiny cup. There didn't seem to be much alcohol in it. It was bad but then there was the food. This was weak. It's about $1 for a taco on the special night or it's about $2 regular. This has no flavor without the sauce. It has to get the sauce to taste like anything. The sauce unfortunately is the only thing you can taste. It has the same drinks and food as the other location. The Alum Creek Bike/Running trail runs behind this place and I've put at least 1000 miles on that trail. 100 times I've gone by and smelled this place and thought it smelled wonderful. Today we finally decided to give it a try for lunch. Most times there is probably plenty of parking, but at peak times it gets tight. The remaining businesses in the strip might lose business from all the spots YT would take up, so there are a bunch of spots reserved for each business. IMO UDF has way more reserved spots for them than they need. We ended parking in a lot for the bike trail and had about a 70 yard walk back to the restaurant. Once inside we found there is counter service and you can have a seat, or full service at the bar. We chose to order and take the buzzer outside to the patio seating since it was a rare nice Central Ohio day. The menu is simple but has a variety of overssized BIG items and some small items. I ended up with a chicken quesadilla and a mini taco. The taco was just ok, nothing wrong with it, but I chose one of the available hot sauces to spice it up nicely. The quesadilla though was excellent a blend of tasty cheeses and very moist chicken. My wife had refried beans with cheese and said it was very good. To summarize, I wouldn't drive from across town to go here, but if we are shopping in the area, I will happily stop again. read more

I had heard good things about Yabo's and it did not disappoint. Ended up here on date night and sat in the bar area at a high top. Bartender greeted us right away and let us know what domestic beer was on special - only $2 drafts! Perused the menu while munching on chips and salsa. The salsa was tasty. Some of the chips were overly seasoned/salted....I just avoided those. Ordered the baja traditional tacos, one ground beef, the other pulled pork. Tried several sauces and found that I am a huge fan of the Sissy Sauce. The ground beef taco was great. The pulled pork taco was even better. I will be ordering the pulled pork again next time. The bartender was timely with beer refills and delightfully pleasant. Also tried a tater tot and a burrito bite from the appetizer menu. Both were delicious. If you like American tacos, then this would be your spot. Nothing authentic about yabos tacos. The Baja tacos have "pico de gallo" on top which mostly consists of all tomatoes and make everything super wet and the soft tacos become super soggy. Yuck. The sauces are horrible. Who puts feta cheese on tacos? The worst $12 I have spent on tacos. Ill stick to authentic tacos from taco trucks or actual mexican restaurants. And it is a taco joint...you have to pay for chips? Definitely must be American owned. Not even complimentary chips and salsa? Yea that told me enough even before my meal came out. Many people had salads, maybe a salad would have been better. Pulled pork and pulled beef had no flavor. Chicken was dry. Pork was fatty. The sauces were way to watery. I spent more time getting liquid off my hands and mouth than actually eating tacos. The beef quesadilla was super greasy, including a puddle of grease underneath.... The place feels like City BBQ, but with tacos instead of BBQ and with a small bar on the side. Unfortunately, the food is just OK. Tacos are obviously the specialty, and there is a variety of meats to choose from and sauces on the table. But sadly the food came up pretty short on flavor. The many sauces on the table helped minimally. And this food is expensive! I brought my wife, my Mom, and my 5 year-old. Our meal was nearly $50. And that is without booze and at a place with no table service. Pricey! If you want a taco, you should really trek over to Los Gauchos Taqueria on Bethel Road. And if you live in Westerville like me and don't feel like making the drive to Bethel Rd, Chipotle would also be a better choice. read more

It's like a more flavorful chipotle, with better beer options and a larger menu. I always get the rice and bean bowl (with chicken) and add their sauces (screw the sissy sauce). I will confess that one of the main reasons I like this place is the location. I live near the chain infested Polaris Parkway, so I decided to stop into this delicious pace and ended up going there three times in one week! It has a nice bar with plenty of TVS around the entire restaurant. They have simple fresh Mexican such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, bowls, etc. and everything is under $6!! It is a great happy hour, watch the game, go for dinner, go for lunch (pretty much an anytime stop!) I got the quesadilla the first time, it is was a small portion- just an average meal. The second time I went we split some nachos, then I got a burrito (they are big!). The last time I went I ordered a pulled pork, rice, cheesy-ness, amazing thing in a bowl and that was by far my favorite!! This place lets you indulge in yummy Mexican but it is portion controlled and fresh! The place is great but ever since the bar started serving liquor your chances of grabbing a quick taco/beer are 50/50 which is the reason for the rating. I'm sure they don't care as they stay busy with people buying wine/liquor but it is annoying enough that I just stopped going altogether. Edit: attempted this one more time. Parking full (usually good for business), bar full (also good), sat down and was ignored for about 10 minutes with staff just chatting. Got up and left. I went today around my 1:30, it was not crowded. We were told to sit anywhere we like, as we went over the menu. I chose the Korean Steak Taco and Blackened Mahi-mahi taco. For the price of the Korean steak taco, I was expecting something more appealing and flavorful. Yabos Tacos, the best place in Westerville to get a taco. They always have a taco of the month which can be very interesting. For October, they had a Oktoberfest taco which consisted of sausage and sauerkraut. Not a fan fav and definitely not a fan of it . I think if you stick to the regular tacos they have amazing tacos and fish tacos. Their queso is so good and I love that there is a bar to order drinks from.
