First the good. The facility itself is clean, easily accessible and appears well maintained. The customer service is lacking however. Every time I spend more than 15 minutes in my unit, I am approached by a worker named Andres and told I can't stay more than a few minutes and I have to leave due to a limit on how much time I can spend in my unit. I asked him what if I need to sort, organize or look for an item, his response was that storage is not for that purpose and it is only for a quick drop off. I also asked him if there is time limit that occupants have to abide by in their policy and he replied yes there is and it is only a few minutes. I asked if I could see the policy and he walked away. I have had units at several different Public Storage facilities and never have I been told to leave because I'm there too long or that there is a time limit that I can sort through my items. I believe this is associate, Andres, needs some more training in empathy, effective communication and also in policies and procedures. read more

DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE!!!! 10 total storage units were broken into at this location on 11/24/2018- Police report made with Simi Valley Police Department. These break ins apparently have been happening since 2012!!!! (check reviews below) I should've done my due diligence and researched the safety and accessibility of this location before storing my stuff here. There's literally 1 camera in this location at the front of the entrance. 1 camera! 1 CAMERA!!!! No other cameras anywhere else on the premises to monitor the buildings! (Pictures of building attached). No alarm + no staff on site (as originally stated) + no cameras = NO SAFETY FOR YOUR BELONGINGS. The manager, Jonathan says he's been overseeing this location for many years and aware of the break ins. So you're saying even after all these years and multiple break ins since 2012, you still can't afford to add cameras to your facility? UNEXCUSABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE!!!! After complaining about the lack of security and cameras his response was, "we're not responsible for your lost property or responsible for its safe keeping." WHAT?!!? Aren't YOU responsible to take preventative measures to deter break ins from happening in the first place??? He followed with "you shouldn't be storing stuff that isn't replaceable into your storage." ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS?!?! The lack of action regarding the ongoing break-ins is completely unacceptable and NOBODY should be subject to theft and damages of their property. You want your stuff to be safe and SECURE! If you care about your stuff, DO NOT STORE HERE!!! You can literally drive 2 more miles for places SIGNIFICANTLY better and more secure than this place. I am not a fan of leaving bad reviews and here is not the case. Let me tell to all of the future clients your stuff is safe here and the units that I saw were in good conditions. Saw some of the units that the roof insulation is kind of bad, but that can be misuse by the renters, not necessarily bad maintenance. I used them while we were moving to our house and all was very good. My only complain, and probably this was never explained to us by the grl who help me. When you return the unit make sure you do it on the last day of your contract. I went but probably due to the coronavirus it was already closed (or about to), so missed the chance to return the keys on May 31st. We went again on the 1st day of the month (June 01) and I had already payed the complete month. They will not give you a reimbursement of the money (or part of it) regardless I used it less than 4 hours on the 1st day of the month. They should have a service to prorate the use. At the rate I was paying it was less than $10.00 including insurance for 1 day ($190 a month was my rent). They offered to keep the unit until end of month, but that does not makes sense, I do not need a storage, so I just gave away $190. Might used them again if I need to, but will make sure that does not happens to me a second time. Other than that... no issues. read more

I rented a 2nd lrg storage unit,but the size is not what it advertised...instead of a 10x30ft, I measured it was only 9.5x30ft (I lost about 3x4ft of space). I hope they have a rent control and not jack up the rent fee in a few months. I feel like the discount price online was just a bait to lure customers, but once in, price will go up tremendously, unlike other storage facilities, they just raised their rent fee $5 or $10 monthly. Also, there is a lrg ant nest under my storage unit, I requested an ant spray a few days back and I believed the manager Jesse said spray will be avail in 2 days. read more

An elderly and disabled relative of mine has been renting a storage space here since 2009. I looked over her Public Storage bills going back to 2009, and within the last couple of years, the rate has *skyrocketed.* What used to be $100-ish dollars 1.5 years ago is now nearly $300 dollars n' counting (they raised the storage rent by $40 suddenly a few months ago, taking the rate to $300). I get it if the rate has very slowly increased over 10+ years or so, but these sudden jumps in costs are puzzling and not a good way to treat long-term customers. We are now working against the clock to get my relative's stuff out of this storage place before they bill yet another $300, since she is disabled and cannot do it herself at all. Not only that, but there are zero garbage/recycle bins on the premises, so we have to pay money to dump stuff at the Simi Landfill. You would think this place would provide some garbage/recycle bins for their customers after making 20K off my relative-- this company clearly likes to do as little work as possible. The place is clean, however, and thankfully we have not experienced any break-ins, and the workers we have encountered are nice-- hence the 2 stars instead of one. However, Public Storage place is a huge financial rip-off. Maybe it's good for very short term storage, but avoid it at all costs for long term storage or else you'll get ridiculous sudden rent increases. read more

"A police officer told us there have been about 20 such break-ins" in less than two months, Susan Dragoo said. I never realized there could be such a thing as bad service at a public storage facility. After all, the only thing you're getting is storage space, right? Once you've signed up, you wouldn't normally even have any human interaction Well, at least that's what I thought. For starters, they have this gal there who starts off charming and helpful. She's good and quite the up-seller. Before you even realize it, she's sold you a 17 dollar lock for the space. She's smooth, too. She doesn't even tell you about the REQUIRED insurance until you've signed all the paperwork and of course it's ONLY another nine bucks a month...NINE BUCKS A MONTH to insure a small walk in closet full of stuff that not only wouldn't fit in my apartment, but wasn't important enough to warrant being stored in the limited space available in the apartment. The layout of the facility is OK but they have it set up so that you MUST get out of your vehicle to open the gate from either side. It would have been much more practical to have drive-up gate lock keypads. And don't go back in for any help. That charming young woman turns into every "don't give a damn" customer service person you've ever seen. They have two buildings with two levels of storage. For each building they provide a cart which is a needed tool. Well, oftentimes one greedy person will go and grab the cart from the other building so they can unload (or load) a large load of stuff, leaving the other building with no carts. So, I go into the office to ask for help and her only reply is "first come first served". So it's OK for one guy to have the ONLY TWO CARTS they own? Apparently so. Oh, and by the way..THE PRICE!! I'm paying SIXTY FIVE bucks a month for a 5 x 5 walk in closet. That's half again as much as I once paid for a full sized parking space in San Francisco. Yes, I know that makes me sound old but I cannot fathom how you justify sixty five bucks a month for that tiny space. Gotta get busy on Craigslist to sell that stuff so I can tell PS to STUFF IT. read more

Yesterday I rented a storage space after researching prices in the area. By far Public Storage was the least expensive. So not only were the prices excellent, the storage unit was clean, in an area that made it easier to move all my things into, and Andres was very helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. He reviewed all the paperwork, assisted me in uploading their app (which is amazing and very user-friendly), and was on time for the appointment I made to view the storage space. Rate increases every 6 months, guaranteed: I noticed on my 6th bill with PS that my rate was increased by 10%. After speaking with customer service, he advised that I received a price increase because my initial rate is so much lower than their current rate. And, more than likely, I will be receiving price increases every 6 months here on out. He did say that if I do NOTICE that my rate is higher than the current rate, I can request a reduction. Three other things to note; 1) PS has a habit of quoting a price for a unit that is not exactly as they described 2) When you do check into the unit you want, they will charge you an additional monthly insurance fee. This was and is never disclosed when doing a price comparison. 3) You have to purchase their lock since normal pad locks will not work for the units This is not just the PS in Simi Valley, but across the entire franchise read more

Over all the people that run the facility are super nice, but the company keeps raising my rates my storage rate went up 6 months ago by $50 now they are rising it up again an additional $100 per month... its just bad business to raise rate by 50% in a years time. never again will I use public storage. I have had a space here for a number of years and had no problems at the beginning. Then every year they raise the rent without fail. In 3 years for a small 5x5 space it has gone from $53.00 to $76.00. I understand prices go up but there is supposed to be good security and my space has been broken into and no cameras that I can tell anywhere inside the building. The facility has become increasingly dirty. I have seen cockroaches on many occasions as well as a USED CONDOM in one of the buildings entryway! After my space got broken into, that was the time of one of their rate increases and I called to complain to the district manager and got blown off. Not even a sorry that happened. I made calls to him and left messages and he just never got back to me! Looking for a new space as we speak. I used to be very nice...now, yuck. read more

Do not use this location. They have a terrible RAT problem. Everything I had stored in my unit had either been chewed on or had rat fecies on it. I had thousands of dollars in damage and the scam of an insurance you pay for only offers up to $250 for vermin damage with a $100 deductible. What a joke Stay away from this place it's been a nightmare. My whole house was stored here and is now destroyed. read more

Unless you want your belongings stolen don't use this location. They only have cameras at the front so there is no protection for your unit. Our stuff was stolen on the 2nd day we were there. As I was canceling my account today, another angry renter arrived that had discovered he had a bunch of stuff stolen too. Whoever stole the stuff took their time going through our belongings and cherry picked what they wanted. That one star is very generous. This place is a breeding ground for RATS!!!!! So much of our things in the unit were covered with rat urine and feces! So much so that we had to have the office workers come down to help as we knew the health risk involved sweeping up the feces. It was then that I started discussing the problem with the office workers and then they shared with me yes they had a terrible problem with the rats and it was ongoing. We were advised to follow up through the insurance that they require you to purchase. That is a scam the two air-conditioners that my husband lost alone where the rats ate through the wiring was over two grand the insurance is offering us nine dollars for the total content of our storage unit! I don't have much to say about the organization that is Public Storage as my dealings with them are minimal. I do know though, that my experience at Public Storage in Simi Valley (property #20627), was above average. I went to drop a few things off as a favor to my mom. Everything went wrong, she gave me the wrong gate code, wrong unit number, and her unit had been locked up due to insufficient funds. As you can imagine I spent plenty of time in the office dealing with Dallas the customer service rep. She was extremely professional and patient in dealing with the whole situation. I appreciated that and just had to take the time to write about it. If Dallas is in anyway a reflection of Public Storage as a whole, I would recommend doing business with them. read more
