    I received financing approval on my new investment (killer marina view duplex) in San Rafael. We're in the midst of renting our main house out (after 25 yrs.) and will need plenty of room to store the family treasures & mementos. PLUS we have a ton of currently active items (think SUP's, Kayaks, bikes, fly fishing gear etc... Once the new place is remodeled, it will be our interim new family HQ. We needed safe and professional storage nearby. Not too excited about the options closest to us so we Yelp'd to see what the next closest location that come highly rated: Public Storage on Merryman popped up. I logged in online and found out they had ONE unit left in the entire place. That's a good sign. It just happened to be about exactly what i was looking for: gravel level; drive up; deep to hold SUP's and kayaks; close to the new home and solid "open" hours. Public Storage appeared to have all that going. I end up calling as I was driving up and talked to the centralized reservations. I'm not a fan of not being able to call the local number. Never the less, the young lady was very kind and reserved the 10'x30' unit for me. I was told that an appointment would be needed and asked if i could/would be arriving today. I confirmed. On my way up I called the "local" number. I guess it was routed to the central number. Jose was great. He found me and said to head up, and to be there before 4:30. No mention of an appointment however. So, I assumed I had a "standing" appointment. I just felt good that when I called in, they actually had me in the system. When I arrived, a younger gentleman named Ramon was on-duty. He unlocked the door and let me in. After mentioning the "no-appointment" arrival (Covid protocol compliance issue), I did explain that I had called... He was able to take me, since I guess on a late Sunday afternoon, it was a little slow. He found my reservation and let me walk over to see the unit. I mistakenly went to the wrong building at first and thought it was locked. But he came out to verify with me and found my mistake. All good. The unit was super CLEAN and the light bulb worked. I wish they would provide a 110 plug to plug chargers in with but otherwise, this place is fantastic. We finish the paperwork and I unload my first batch: 8 skate boards, 2 stand up inflatables, 2 model sailboats (RC yacht club certified racing boats - still in boxes); 2 indo boards; Lionel model train set; box of Burning Man clothes. I don't eve cover my entire back wall yet. I should hopefully have plenty of storage space and circulation space to get to it all. This will be the fist of many visits while I unload the house, purge and reload here at Public Storage, but I feel good about this location and the condition of the property. Special thanks to Ramon who helped me today. He was very professional, never broke Covid protocol, managed the entire process with me very smoothly.

    Two charges from them and still they can't find my reservation. And customer service is no help. Will be filing complaints against them.

    I tried to rent a unit here. I followed instructions as I was told and filled out the information online. It charged me the $380, but said there was an "error". I called the San Rafael (380 Merrydale) location directly and they said there was absolutely no record of me reserving a unit, and they have no record of me ever being charged. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE. The woman at the San Rafael location said that I should try going through the process again as the original fee would probably be refunded. So I did it again, and it charged me $380 again. YES, AGAIN. It also said "error" AGAIN. I tried calling customer service, they were zero help, had no answers and transferred me to the "district manager" who left for vacation today. I'm now $760 in the hole and absolutely no one will help me. I also don't even have a storage unit. Here's an image of the charges. I will be filing complaints wherever I can. It's completely unacceptable that no one can help me and no one is even trying to follow up with me to get this taken care of.

    Easy access off the freeway. Wish is was 24 hours. The staff seem helpful. Other than that, pretty standard storage facility.

    Taylor and Carlos (forgive me guys if I missed out on a name) moved us on the most horrific rainy…read moreday in the recent deluge, from Novato to San Rafael. Despite the conditions, they were positive and efficient; even a stubborn king-sized bed required a master-level disassembly, and they handled it with aplomb. Also, setting up the move was long-time J&D employee Mike, who was completely professional and spot-on with the very reasonable cost estimate, even with the horrible weather. Hats off to these three and J&D (who had ironically moved OUT the previous tenant in our new location) - nothing was a slam dunk about this move, but they certainly made it seem that way.

    We've used these guys twice in the last year as we were in a transitional home for 9 months until…read morewe found a more permanent place. Both quotes came from Michael Volpe. The second quote was for 12K to move two miles. The first move was from San Francisco to San Rafael. It was about 30 boxes and some very small furniture and clothing. Excect on moving day the guys did not bring wardrobe boxes, so my husband had to bring all of our clothes in the car. No apology, no adjustment to the bill. A few days ago we moved from a small two bedroom condo to a single level home 2 miles away. We asked them to pack and unpack. I was told by Michael that they would pack and unpack for us. We are an older couple, both with injuries and so we were looking forward to the help. We were booked with 7 guys for 71/2 to 81/2 hours over two days. The move started off bad, as we were told they "don't really unpack as they are not organizers." We were confused as we were led to believe they would put some stuff away, which apparently they do to some extent. I asked them to simply label the boxes from where they took them. E.g. "Master bathroom vanity drawer." They did not really label stuff and to be honest, they just threw a lot of stuff in boxes. So when they got to the new place they did not know where to put some of the boxes and it was pretty clear they did not care. By 12:30 on the first day, Ronaldo (lead guy) informs me he can't complete the move that day. I asked why and he said several times, "Are you cool with paying me overtime? If I don't stop now it's time-and a half." At the same time he was also saying he did not want a long day on the second day of the move. So I contacted Michael who said he would talk to Ronaldo. Keep in mind, I'm there alone, while my husband is in the new place. Ronaldo is pissed at this point and tells his team they have to "Move this Sh__ !" I felt really uncomfortable. So they had no problem at all moving everything over to the new place. I think they left around 4:00 after taking a 25 minute break in the morning and at least 45 minutes for lunch, which I supplied and they seemed to feel entitled to. The next day they showed up at 8:15 to unpack. It was a joke. They stained the wall from moving. My husband just had it painted and it not take a picture, so we can't file a claim. He did get them to help put stuff away, but they mostly put stuff where ever they wanted and it was random as they did not label boxes correctly. They were gone bynoon however, so no one had a long day, expect us, as we are still trying to figure out where our stuff is days later.
