It was a short-term solution that should have been pretty uneventful, however, we found San Rafael Self Storage to be sub-par. Two major issues accelerated our choice to move things out quickly after we moved into our house. 1. Leak in the roof. We had our items in temperature controlled storage on purpose. In addition to car items, we also kept some keepsakes here. We were SO disappointed to find a leak had let a ton of water into our unit over the winter. Very thankfully we had our items in closed plastic bins, but this not only should not have happened, but when we reported it, their resolution was lack-luster ("you can move your things to another unit, but we do not promise there will not be leaks.") 2. Homeless people sleeping in the entry and using facilities. This is supposed to be secured storage -- we have to punch in a custom code every time we come and go. Unfortunately, the local homeless population seems to jump the (very low) barriers to the property and on several occasions I found people using the bathrooms to shower or sleeping in the building. In a facility that often has no onsite staff, such lax property security made me feel very uncomfortable being there alone or after dark. I'm not sure what better options are available, but I would certainly not recommend San Rafael Self Storage.

So after just 3 months, I get an email notice of a rent raise for 50%! I was able to speak with management and they gave me an additional few months at the original rental price. But the 50% price raise did go into effect September 2024. Now, about six months later, I just got a notice of yet another raise of about 30%! That is almost an increase of 100%, doubling my storage fee in less than one year! I strongly think this is just pure greed and bad business! I see other people's comments reflected a gouging of charges from this company. This should not be allowed or should just stop right now. In speaking with other people renting in other places, they do not receive this kind of price-gouging rental increase!

Same worn facility, same janky stairs, same nothing. Communication is equally impressive: emails routinely go unanswered for a week or more, requiring multiple follow-ups to get any response. When I submitted my move-out notice, their week-long response time cost me a full month's rent -- and their answer was to hide behind a no-prorate policy. If you value your money and your time, keep looking.

First, they raised their prices several times since I had been there and I could not get them to charge me for their insurance even though I had sent them proof of my own insurance. Additionally, the facility is unstaffed, and apparently owned by people at a different facility. The phone number listed by StoragePro is never staffed and they don't pick up and respond to messages. If you want to speak with someone, you need to call their other facility which is not clear from the Storage Pro website or even on their voicemail message. It was difficult to get conformation that they had received my written notice that I planned to vacate. Before picking a storage facility, I will now make sure it actually has an office that is staffed.
