I was moving out of the area and the truck I ordered was too small for all my stuff. I needed a temporary storage unit until I could get settled and retrieve the rest if my stuff. The staff was awesome, considering it was all last minute. As it turns out, I needed the space for more than six months. Once my son cleared out the space, I gave notice and once again the staff was on top of it. If I still lived in Novato, I'd use it again. read more

I've stored some of my possessions at Novato Self Storage for a little over 2 years. I selected them because I lived in Novato at the time, and they were the best option at the time. Over time I've become more and more dissatisfied with their service. First of all, they close for every major holiday. Not reduced hours, just closed for the day. Secondly, they close every day at 7 pm, when other storage companies in the area stay open until 9 pm. But their most glaring problem is their online payment page on their website, which despite my multiple requests for them to make the payment page a secured page, they continue to do nothing. Well, you don't need to be a computer consultant (which I am) to see that the page where they ask you to enter your credit card information for online bill payment doesn't begin with https, and thus Is NOT SECURE. Many of their customers no doubt don't take the time to check this before entering their debit/credit card account numbers because they're just looking for the quickest way to pay their bills. Quick isn't the same thing as secure, and although it would take a competent web designer just a few minutes to secure this page, the staff at Novato Self Storage has failed to make their website safe for online payments. So if you don't mind not being able to access your stored possessions on holidays, after 7 pm, or making your payments on an unsecured web page, by all means choose Novato Self Storage. To be fair, their staff has been very helpful in my other dealings with them. But my dissatisfaction with them is enough to have me looking elsewhere for storage. read more

I loved this place. All the staff were warm and friendly. -Even the staff at the storage site were very welcoming. Always nearby if needed yet they gave a lot of personal space which I appreciate. Novato Self Storage has a small family owned feel which I really like. The price was very affordable 4x4 @ $34/month. Including the 1x fee I was able to move in for less than $80 The storage site was very clean. Overall the business is well organized very user friendly easy in easy out. No hassle. The only cons to this place is the main office being separate from the actual storage location. I was pre-warned about the mice before I moved in and asked what type of storage containers I had. I said cute decorative boxes. I was encouraged to store in plastic containers so the mice wouldn't get to them. I followed suit. Stored my things for a few months. No mice in sight, but grateful for the heads up. That shows integrity. I know we don't want to believe it but there are going to be critters @ any storage place. That's why they offer insurance -in case anything happens. I know it sounds like a fake post but seriously with good organization and great customer service, you'll win my heart any day. read more

We had no problem with our unit, however make sure you note the start date on your contract. You need to give 7 days notice of vacating before the actual day of the month you first rented. And keep your initial contract handy. Also expect annual rent increases even in an economic downturn. When we terminated before the end of the month, we were not told that we would be charged for the following month's entire rent. Giving us a head's up would perhaps have eliminated a negative experience - after many years as customers. Responding to Kathy: we did not contact her and wait a month. Actually I spoke with her in the week before. And after I received a bill for the now empty unit, I called to indicate that I felt it would have been helpful and appropriate for her to tell me that we would be billed for an additional month because it was too late to give her notice. Instead, she simply said, "Just make sure all locks are off because then we'll know you are out." I contacted her the following day to make sure all had gone as she asked, and she confirmed that all was good and they were aware we had removed everything. They followed the contract but I felt she was knowingly avoiding telling me to expect another bill. A simple statement would have been much appreciated & better business practice. (Note: I did contact her less than seven days before we vacated - because of the pandemic we were unsure about our ability until a couple of days ahead of time. And I called AFTER WE WERE OUT to insure all was clear. She confirmed that it was.) read more

I rented a space from Novato Self Storage for about 9 months. I had rented a 10'x10' storage. When I got to the storage space, it wasn't exactly a 10'x10' space. The ceiling sloped down in the back quite a bit. I had just moved my things from a storage space in Boulder, CO and their 10x10 was a 10x10. I left my things there for about 9 months. When I went to move out much to my horror, my whole storage space and all of my belongings were infested with mice!!! The mice had made nests and pooped on pretty much everything. They had gotten into my boxes and made nests and pooped and pee'd. It was a horror and a nightmare. I called the security guard over to get a nest out and he said that they know they have a real mouse problem there and that he had seen worse!!! Sandy the manager there said that it was not their responsibility. So I went to the owner and wrote 2 emails. I was asking for a refund on my rent for the 9 months that i had rented there. I didn't even ask for damages to my property. I never heard back from him. He didn't even had the courtesy to respond to me. I didn't have renters insurance, so I had to consider it a loss and a really horrible experience. I'm warning anyone who might consider renting there NOT TO! Not only are these people dishonorable, you may just have your belongings infested with mice as I did. read more

We stopped in to get some information on their self storage units. The woman at the counter was unhelpful and rude. Everytime we asked a question, her answer started with an exasperated sigh and an extremely curt response. I can't imagine how they would handle a problem with a storage unit - if we were to get one. Which we're not. Ever. Not here anyway. read more

I had a great experience at this facility. The people at the office were friendly, knowledgeable and on top of things. I also found that the maintenance crew on-site was very friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean and well maintained. Plus I really felt like my things were safe while at the facility. EEK! MICE AND RODENTS GOT IN TO MY STORAGE!!! I HAVE A RODENT INFESTATION at NOVATO SELF STORAGE!! They have left droppings on my mattress pad, on my couch, eaten through areas of where chairs were not completely sealed, eaten thriough a box with expensive linens, making holes in my bedspeads and sheets. The corporate office, Debbie is not taking any responsibility, except for offering one months rent credit. I sent them numerous photos of the dead mouse and the droppings on my mattress pad, couch and chairs, and ruined linens with brown marks and holes in it from mice. I have just talked to an owner of another storage facility in Marin who told me that others have had the same problem there. They said management does have liabilty for my damage because they have neglected their responsibility to protect the facility from rodents. They told me EVERYTHING that I have has to be examined, cleaned if possible, and repacked in new boxes, that the upholstered furniture has to be fumigated. My temperpedic mattress and mattress base needs to be thrown out. They said my furniture could have mice inside even though I do not see them making holes on the outside. This is going to take a great deal of time and money. My storage space is large, 19'x10' so there are many boxes and pieces of furniture. I need to have professional help to do this work. Nothing can be taken to another facility until everything has been cleaned, if possible or discarded, if not possible. They said mice can get into any small space and can be in my boxes and furnishings even though nothing is visable. Mice can even nibble at wooden furniture. They told me to have a lawyer draft a letter and I have grounds to sue them. DO NOT use this facility if you want your things protected!!! read more
