My wife and I decided to rent a storage unit for a short period of time to de-clutter our place as we are considering a move. Plus, it being late March I decided to finally take down the Christmas tree. What can I say? I like the "just right" glow it adds to our living room. I'm a romantic at heart. This facility is in a great location in Central PHX though it is a tad difficult to find as the address says Camelback but there is no signage visible from the street. This place is at the back of a huge mall, and can only be seen from 20th St E as you approach CB from the south. Being new to the city it took me a 1/2 hour to locate it and I had to ask a friendly Postal worker, though now that I think of it, one should be careful about approaching postal workers as they did inspire the phrase "Going Postal" and also this is the Guns-R-Fun state! I am a hold-out on the whole Smartphone craze and I have to admit it would've come in handy. I never pay more than $50 for a phone as I tend to lose/drop-in-toilet/forget in swimsuit pocket/smash in fit of anger- my mobile phones. I also didn't have their number with me, as I tend to be impetuous and rash, and rush off without planning, much to my annoyance of self. Though my "Wallet-Watch-Keys-Phone" pre-departure checklist is helping with this problem. Moving fwd I will add "Directions" and perhaps "Phone Number" to that list. There is a huge sign above the parking ramp down to the parking and office. It is an underground storage facility which adds security. It is climate controlled. Quite clean inside with new-ish walls/doors. I did notice that the place smells a bit like BO and typical a-million-different-stacks-of-peoples'-junk mixed with a soupcon of failed co-habitation and a dash of Broken Dreams. Not unpleasant but noteworthy. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and they offer the first month for $1. There is no minimum rental period you just pay it monthly and give 48hrs notice to vacate. I believe they pro-rate the days and refund unused monthly portions. Each tenant is issued a gate code which is entered into a touch pad that will open the doors and open the elevator. The hours are decent and if you didn't remember to buy a lock they will sell you one. I like this storage facility. So I'm off there now to visit the Tree! read more

Agents are on site erratically; and don't believe what they tell you, because management will tell you they are wrong. They don't return phone calls and have incredibly bad customer service. (They still have their pandemic social distancing message on their voicemail, which tells you the last time they paid attention to their customers.) For what they charge, you'd think they would put customer needs first, but instead they tell you everything they can't do. We were nearly unable to move some of our things out because the access to the underground lot changed--and management told us it was not their problem even though they are the tenant of the mall. On 3/3/24, I paid Public Storage online $139.20 for a storage space at their Camelback location, which I didn't realize was in the basement of an old shopping mall. I never used and was unable to use this space because: 1. They had my assigned space locked, preventing me from accessing it, and there was no one onsite to help me. 2. The entire facility smelled like musty, moldy basement. Storing my things there would result in all my belongings smelling the same. I had an allergic reaction any time I entered the facility and continued having symptoms for three days afterward. I used the on-site kiosk a handful of times for help. At one point, another manager came from a nearby Public Storage site to assist. She agreed the facility smelled awful and said she couldn't keep her things there either. She said her location was not in a basement and did not smell like mold and mildew like this one. She told me to come back at 9:30 a.m. the next day as the appropriate manager should be on site at that time. I arrived the next morning and waited for the on-site manager who was well aware of the odor issue and refunded only $21.71 for the lock, saying I'd have to call corporate for the rest as he was unable to transfer my account to another location or facility. I first tried transferring to another Public Storage location by phone but was basically told I was free to use another storage business if I chose. I then tried to transfer or resolve my issue through the Public Storage website. Their website said I could transfer, when I clicked the "chat" box, a list of options came up. One option was to transfer. It says, "We are more than happy assist you transfer to a different space OR LOCATION. Please reach out to your property manager or call us at 800-567-0759 to discuss your desire to transfer." I had already talked to the onsite manager who said he couldn't transfer my account so I called the number for corporate and the person I spoke with said she was transferring my account to another location. When that location called to confirm my reservation, however, they said there was no way to transfer between locations. I told them I followed the instructions on their website to transfer to another location and was told on the phone my account was transferred. They said they would look into that and call me back but they never did. I tried talking with Public Storage corporate again by phone a few days ago and ultimately requested a full refund. They called back before 7:30(!) this morning saying they will not refund my money and hung up on me when I told them that was unacceptable! I am now forced to go through other channels for requesting payment reversal or a full refund as I was never able to use the storage space and their business practices are deceitful and predatory. This is an openly fraudulent operation masquerading as a storage facility. In the last several years our rent has gone from $170/month to close to $500/month. There is no longer any staff at all on site, ever. Phone calls to the office are not returned, ever. Keypad access hours have been limited to 10 am to 5 pm making the storage units virtually inaccessible for people with normal jobs. I did not feel safe going here in the evening. And, finally, they have gotten rid of all carts so moving your items in and out of the storage unit is almost impossible. The only possible explanation is that Public Storage is trying to drive all customers out of this location and use it for something else. read more

I would not recommend public storage! It is a trap, that will make you lose all your belongings. It was once life storage, that company is better but since public storage bought the storage located on 16st between Osborn rd and Thomas rd. The whole policy changed. It is unfair when I was halfway to pay my storage unit. Too expensive. I just got an apartment, the manager at life storage was very helpful. The policy was very stress-free. Everything changed including the employees. The new staff is not helpful. Now I am going to lose my belongings of this company. It keeps adding up. They do not do want to give other solutions to help me get my belongings out. It's pay all of it at once at more fees are add up. The new manage lied, that my price was going to stay the same until the 1st of January. That is false. I screenshot everything. Life storage had so much options to help without paying all of it. And still could get my belongings out. I did not want to switch storage companies. I had no choice because of my belongings are there already. Please do rent at public storage. Over price. Public Storage has committed highway robbery! They raise their rates every two months astronomically, and they have only 1 broken cart. The front door was broken and forced you to walk around to the side door. No one is ever there, but they have no problem texting you when they want money NOT owed. Stuff happens. This facility had a sudden need to minimize access hours. Unfortunately they chose not to notify customers. They did not return phone messages left (3 messages) and did not reply to written communication submitted through the app with promise of reply with 12 hours. Their online chat help justified their choice not to let customers know they would be able to access their storage spaces by saying they are entitled to do so at any time per the rental contract. Unfortunately their new hours are the same as my work hours, but they didn't care, and in fact we're not accessible even during their updated hours. It is crystal clear that their customers are not an important part of their business model. As long as my monthly payments are made, they had no need to respond to me. read more

This has been one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had to deal with. This company does not answer the phone, reply to messages, or adhere to posted operating hours. i rented a unit at public Storage on Desert Cove in Scottsdale. when I arrived with a truck and 4 movers on the clock the gate wouldn't open. the option given was to walk down the ravine a cross the rocks and down 1/2 a block with a semi full of furniture they found me a unit 10 miles away at double the price not a good experience read more

Horrible. Both moving in and moving out they happened to have "issues" that cost me hundreds of dollars both times. Moving in storage, took 45 mins for an employee to be there and I sat around waiting for my unit with movers and people waiting to get in. While I'm being charged... It gets worse, moving out I show up and again, you can't get in, the gate isn't working, I call and get the run around for an hour only to find that thier own employees can't even get in. I'm 2-3 go sitting around waiting with movers and ppl paid on the clock to find out if I can even get into my unit. Only to be told they don't know and I have t come back tomorrow. This place is great. Clean, safe and well lit. Most of the staff is very helpful. Courtney and Jen go above and beyond to help out. These are the employees you hope continue to stay with PS. They are pleasant and are willing to make the extra step to help with the small tasks that others dismiss as 'not my job'. I don't know if there is any extra perks for signing up but I would wait for Jen or Courtney. These people are capable and understanding. They are very helpful. the only rating I want to give is one star...the whole time I was there for about 3-5 years it was ok the units nice and clean missed a payment and was accommodated in the beginning...then yearly rates go up and I mean up...finally put in notice to vacate...my bill is due on the 6th at the beginning of every month and I paid by the 4th at the beginning of every month...I was told to vacate right at the end of the month no later or I would have to pay for another month...niiiiiiiiiice doing business with...customer service was NO WHERE TO B FOUND AT THREE LOCATIONS WE DROVE TO...couldn't get any customer service on the premises for either location...No carts no dollies as said to have...ran into a few other customers while packing up our truck and of course their pissed also at no customer service at the locations they too have been to also...same story...my advice to those looking for a storage unit??? This place is clean, quite, it is located under the mall stores, I like that because the only way to get in is by the security doors or elevator which are both monitored by security systems I would like to give special recognition to one of the employees there his name is Brad if I ever have a question he is able to quickly and accurately respond to my needs. read more

worst company I have been exposed to in a long time. This was Not a 1x bad service experience, but institutionalized extortion. Public storage lured me into a rental on Camelback Rd. (Phoenix) then raised my rent 3 times in 1.5 years, equating to a 39% rate increase then refused to discuss it and began charging a late fees while I tried to discuss my challenge. I thought surely this was an accident? After great effort I spoke to someone at corporate, who said nothing she can do since they don't set pricing there at that office. If you don't set pricing at HQ, and not at the local office, then who sets it?? It's a lie. I finally paid the balance just to get out and communicated to the local rep (the one guy who returned my calls) for a Saturday exit, then they charged me for another full month because I moved on the 3rd instead of the 1st despite my coordinating with the local rep. When I complained about how poor the service and ethics of PS is, he laughed, "You're not the first person to tell me that. You're definitely not the only one!" This is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. read more
