Here was my challenge. My sister has had a unit here for 14 years, yes 14. I needed a storage unit on my own due to divorce. I needed a large space for inexpensive. I had an online quote of $178. I went to the facility on Thursday March 23rd and I was assisted by 2 lovely ladies, Jackie and Ann. Problem was when they assigned me a unit the price jumped $100 per month on top of my original quote. Even though I stood there for over and hour while Jackie tried to fix the problem, she never gave up and both Jackie and Ann assured me they would be able to fix it. Jackie was on the phone with management quite a bit trying to resolve the problem. During this wait I had a very pleasant conversation with them and they understood the hard situation I was in (most of my money going to lawyers) they were empathetic and that meant a lot to me since my whole world was changing. Not once did they give me a hard time or try to talk me out of what a great deal I was actually getting. I appreciated that even MORE! Yes I stood there for an hour but when I left I was happy and impressed that these two ladies had worked so hard to give such great customer service and were able to make my difficult situation a lot easier. THANK YOU JACKIE AND ANN! YOU BOTH ARE ASSETS TO YOUR COMPANY! Diane had also assisted me over the phone and she was a pleasure as well. this location is very clean and well maintained and the staff is some of the nicest people to do business with. There have been 5 new Storage facilities that have opened up within 1 mile of this place (talk about overkill) but none of them even interested me except this one, very clean and safe. I will continue to use this facility for years to come....... read more

Poor value as they charge $314 for a 10 by 10 foot unit. Buyer beware! I moved my items out of storage on the 1st of the month and instead of prorating my rent, they charged me for the entire month. Not sure why I expected this company to have integrity so lesson learned. read more

Lee Ann was amazing! She wanted to help and spent time making sure everything was prepared correctly and that I was happy! I really appreciate her excellent service and professionalism. She is the best thing about this facility. Everything else is generic. Thanks Lee Ann. read more

Very clean place. Lee Ann is great! I am happy I found this place! I looked at several places before I signed a contract here

This is the second time I moved in and Leann was amazing just as last time. She made everything very hassle free and was so helpful when I accidentally broke one of the glass tables in the doorway. Overall an amazing experience, even when moving sucks! read more

Public Storage - NEGATIVE STAR! - Self Storage Near Me - Lincolnwood, Illinois

This place is a fraud! Do not store your stuff here. I did years ago and when I forgot to update my credit card and paid a couple weeks late they had already confiscated all my stuff. Thousands of dollars worth of furniture and memorable personal belongings for an autopay mishap. Years later and I'm still scorned. I had all my stuff already gone for a two week $100 late payment. There is something terribly wrong w a place that will get rid of your stuff after two weeks. Do yourself a favor. Keep your stuff someplace you can trust because you can't trust this location. You might end up like me with all your sacred belongings gone. read more

Although the local staff is helpful, they cannot make up for the outrageously deceiving corporate pricing strategy, luring consumers in with initial reasonable rates that are consistently jacked up at a pace far exceeding inflation. read more

i have used other storage companies in the passed and the service, the process and the use of the storage unit was not the best. I am glad I went with Public Storage on Touhy. Lea Ann has been more than helpful. She has made my process for storing my items less stressful. read more

I would make sure you review all contracts and documents and think twice before renting with Public Storage. My experience with them has been less than satisfactory. When I first rented with them Ann was very helpful and great with customer service. But, afterwards the other customer associates, ("AJ" specifically), working there have been rude and less-than-helpful. Also, the promotion's that they offer are either non-existent or limited, so be prepared for high first month costs. I would check out some other storage companies that may have better deals. There are a lot of hidden fees and you want to be aware of them prior to renting with Public Storage in Skokie. Even in my communication with the "Manager", he was less-then-helpful when explaining discrepancies between mailed invoices and extra charges indicated on my account. When calling the office many times there was no answer and it seems a lack of professionalism. I would give Ann a 5 star rating though, she was incredibly kind and friendly. Consider other options before choosing Public Storage. read more

I don't know how other Public Storage places work, but this one continues to be such a hassle it is incredible to me. We have just moved and so are back and forth here a lot, and have quite a trip to do so to get items and have family helping us for a few months or I will stop by on my way from work, or run over with the car full of boxes to put in our locker. Many, many times one of us has gone to the facility only to find a sign on the door saying they will be back in an hour, and the office is locked up. No one is there. This is the middle of the afternoon. There are NO hand trucks, ever, sitting around at the door or facility - we are told we must go to the office and ASK for them (there seem to be 2 in the whole place) as we were also told people steal them. If no one is in the office, you are SOL. There is no way in H*ll I or we are going to be able to carry large or heavy boxes or furniture, one by one to an elevator and down two long hallways to our storage locker but they seem to think this is perfectly fine for people to do. Since the office closes at 6 but the place is open until 9, during this time, again, there are no hand trucks/carts available. They told me if we will be by to call ahead of time and they'll leave one out in the hall for us. Well in a perfect world I guess it'd be nice to be able to do this but since we're moving my parent's home and both of them to an assisted living facility, there are a few of us pitching in as we can and it's a massive, daunting job. We are doing it as we can, when we can. It is ridiculous that, for this kind of money, we have to ask permission to use the storage place, pre-reserve a truck (we'd like 2 or 3 with the amount we bring - why do we have to load up 1 with some boxes and make 4 trips when 2 would do?) The control-freaking at this place is and if there are more than 2 people there using the carts you're out of luck. If you call and leave a message no one calls back. I have asked many people about this who have storage lockers and they're stunned that this is going on here. With the added traffic on Touhy now due to Walmart, the mall and McCormick being backup up solid it takes forever to get here, forever to get out of the little driveway and you're better off going way around and coming up Crawford to access it. If you're looking for a place you truly need to access and go to, get things, USE -- this isn't it. read more

If you need to store some extra items, this is a wonderul place to do it! They have excellent facilities here that are monitered 24 hours. All the storage places are indoors, so you don't have to worry about weather-related problems. The staff here is great and will work with you to work out the best quote and storage space for you. read more

I've been a customer of public storage for nearly 9 years. And I have absolutely zero value to them. Their actions have ensured that if I ever need personal storage again that I will never ever be their customer again. Here's why: Every year they raise my "rent" by $2 dollars. After 9 years that came out to $18 more per month for the same 5'x5' storage unit that they currently offer for new customers at the exact same location. I was told the way to avoid this yearly increase is to visit the office every couple of years and ask for a rent reduction. Instead, I choose to move out and cancel my account because I think it's pretty awful customer service to charge your long term customers more than your new customers. I collected all my things on the 1st of the month and went to close my account in person. At the time my understanding was that my billing cycle was on the 2nd of every month. But, it was apparently on the 1st of the month and therefore I was told that because I didn't complete my move out the day prior, that I now owe another $83 for another entire month of rent. I offered to pay for the partial month that I used, but I would not be willing to pay for entire month of rent when I used less than a single day. I left multiple voicemails and emails with the district manager and even the regional manager to amicably resolve the billing dispute. All were ignored until I wrote yet another email stating that I would not be paying my remaining bill. At this point I was contacted and they told me they were sorry, they missed all my previous messages and no, they won't do anything about the extra month of rent. Buyer beware. read more

I live in Evanston and stored my stuff for a little more than one month, great experience! The facility was very clean and well-maintained, and the staff lady, Diane, is SUPER NICE AND HELPFUL. I would totally recommend this place!! read more

The location and storage facilities are great, easy in and out. The customer service is lousy. I never reach someone when I call the facility and usually have to call back because my messages are never returned. They also raise rates way too much to be acceptable. When I signed up the price was great, six months later the price went up. I called customer service and was told that the accounts are automatically reviewed every 2 years so the recent increase meant my prices would not be raised again for 2 more years. A year later and the price went up again. This time when I called the local office they say the prices are "evaluated every six months" and if they feel they need to raise them, they will. Evaluate based on what? Whether they want to make more money? Well who doesn't! So of course, six months later and now my fees have gone up AGAIN. I called customer service directly again and now they say that they can raise the rates every year. So 3 phone calls, 3 different stories on raising their rates. Who to believe? Local office blames customer service, customer service blames the local office. No one "knows why they told you that". There seems a real lack of a consistent message with each department blaming the other. Very shady, IMHO. Either way, in less than 3 years, my fees have increased 32% which is way more than just an inflationary increase. If you're using this facility short-term you may like it, but expect the prices to go up considerably, with little warning if you're here longer than a year. read more

Clean. New. Great rates. Nice neighborhood. Gosh, can't really say much more about it. The storage rooms are very clean and all the facilities appear to be very new and in great condition. read more

I love public storage. It's such a great service for college students between moving-in. They've got great service and wonderful and friendly staff. I made a reservation but didn't end up using it. They didn't give me a hard time for canceling the reservation and was very polite about it. If I ever need storage space in the future, I would definitely go to them. Right now, they even have end of the summer special, $1 for the first month and if you moved out before the 1st month, you only pay $1! read more

I moved out of state for 5 months and found a great deal online for renting a huge 20 x 12 foot unit for $212 a month. The place was exceptionally clean and I never had a problem getting into the building with my code. I highly recommend reserving a unit online to get the best price. Even though I didn't need that much space, the 20' x 12' space was cheaper than the next size DOWN. There is plenty of parking and the moving truck had no trouble backing up to the automatic double door. Ann and Diane are the nicest people and I would absolutely rent there again. read more

Ann and Diane are extremely attentive and professional and I had an easy time both reserving and completing my paperwork for my two storage spaces. Also, Ann was super helpful in working out my second storage unit and is one of the nicest people EVER!!! Additionally, the pricing was excellent (I reserved it with an on-line price) and Public Storage only raised my rent a small amount after about 6 months. The facility is kept very clean and I would give a full 5 stars for this review but evidently, the front door timer has been broken for an extended time and my movers had to try and prop things between the doors to keep it open during the move (they said it's been like that for a long time and this wasn't their first visit to the facility). I would recommend this facility without hesitation!!! Thanks again Ann and Diane!!! read more

Very unhappy there was a break in. I assumed there was security because you had to put a code in to enter, but other than security cameras there is no actual security. No way for the police or any other security to respond in a timely manner. I was very unhappy to discover this. read more

I am impressed with this Public Storage facility. I had to switch a reservation from another facility that didn't have the larger unit i needed. The manager, Diane, found me what the right size unit with the climate control I requested. When I arrived to check in, Diane was pleasant and efficient. She answered my questions and got me through the check-in process quickly. The facility is clean and well lighted. - like new. I would recommend this Public Storage facility. read more

I rented a unit at this location for about 8 months. The managers at the location, Ann and Diane, are incredibly nice and helpful. The unit itself was clean, temperature controlled, and fit my belongings perfectly (without much extra room). I was very happy about this as I thought beforehand that I could have gone with a smaller unit, and by just describing over the phone to Ann what belongings I planned to store she was able to guide me to make the right unit size decision and save me a whole bunch of hassle of needing to move things twice. I highly recommend the Public Storage on Touhy! read more

This is a great place to store your things if you want a 25% annualized rent increase the first year. I was given a 15% increase after the seventh month. I can't wait to see what they spring on me next year, or maybe in another few months. So take the time and expense of moving in, get settled and wait for your bills to skyrocket. read more
