Cube smart is I a very safe location in South West Evanston on Oakton just East of McCormick next to the big sports Dome which is a very busy safe area with all the family sports activities at that Dome. So we feel quite comfortable popping in there on way from Ohare Airport for family visits. The facility is very well run with great staff and is spotless. We get what we need for our 3-4 visits per year from California to see kids , grandkids, etc . So can't say enough. It's an awesome experience. It's well worth what we pay. Watch out for Public Storage. While I am 99.9% sure that it is not the people (probably one person)…read morewho work here on a daily basis (though I've never seen any workers, period), I have now been subjected to at least 3 rate increases across two units in the last year or so. It happens at the six month mark on the nose, it seems. These are ranging between 35 and 45 percent. each. That nice teaser rate of 100 bucks is now basically twice that. While I acknowledge that it's a free market and they can charge what they please, there isn't exactly any additional "value" being added, not "extra services", not anything period, except the privilege of paying more. I suspect that like many people I will probably suck it up and pay. I think it's time the local news stations look into this, though. I suggest that if you are looking at Public Storage, you look elsewhere first, you'll be paying more in six months time. While there are not many choices, you should pick someone else and do your research first. Finally, it's worth nothing, the 30-day notice of changes is written into the contract, but the post office cannot deliver these in a reasonable amount of time, and they conveniently never email them. Shady...if you ask me.

I was never told that the rate was a promotional rate - if I would've known that, I would've never booked it. We could rent a garage for that! Additionally, there were all sorts of fees that were never disclosed until everything was finalized and I went to pay. Also, I have my own insurance - the person who helped me said we had no choice but to pay for their insurance the first month, but after that, I could just send in my insurance documents and she would take that charge off so the following months I wouldn't be charged. Never happened; I've been charged every month. Just a total scam everywhere you turn. Can't wait to get out of this place.

We stored our equipment in a 5'x15' unit at their skokie facility for over 3 yeas. It was the…read morecheapest unit we found initially. Over the years we stored with them they increased the monthly rent from the initial $108, then $128 then $148 to $173 a month. We moved our equipment out when they stated they were going to increase it again to $221 a month. What was disturbing was that when using a different browser for their webpage I was able to find larger 10'x10' units in the exact same building for less than half the proposed new monthly rate of $221. We were contacted by their service team after we scheduled our move out date. They stated they saw an "error" in our rate change and they would return our rate to the $173 a month for three months. They were unwilling reduce the rate further even after I discussed how larger units in their space were currently cheaper than our 5'x15' unit and we had been with them for over 3 years. There is no guarantee that this company will keep your unit affordable if you are planning on storing long term. They are abusing their contract to get as much money as they can before you call it quits and move to a different storage company.

The facility is clean (which was very important to me) and secure. River and Mario at the facility are friendly and nice River signed me up quickly and I was able to move in within minutes. Both of them are helpful when you are at the facility during open hours. I like the control through the blue tooth app. The signal can get a little dicey but it has always worked. When you arrive you can pull into the indoor bay. There are carts to help move things around. Easy.

And I'm not talking about from the promotional rate to the regular rate. From the regular rate, they've raised it twice, for a total of more than $50/month -- $600+ a year! Not only that, but their efforts to be more technology driven make dealing with them a pain. There is no on-premises staff to talk to at any time. You have to stand in an empty lobby and talk to someone remotely over a video call if you need help. They require you to use an app to gain access to anywhere in the building. The lobby, opening the garage door, the restroom, the elevator, etc. But the apps are unreliable and inconsistent. And there's two of them. We were supposed to start using the new one but it doesn't work (the old one still does?). I wish I never moved my stuff in here. I wouldn't recommend this storage unit to anyone.
