The customer service at Public Storage was by far better and more helpful for a first timer. We were helped by a lady Hoku. She was super friendly and answered all our questions. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a storage unit, especially if it's your first time. I have used this location several times and it has always been the best. Great location, right near the on and off ramps. Easy access, great elevators and SECURE (most importantly!!) They offer carts to help you get in and out. Awesome deals always, and the staff is great. In particular, DONNA Ask for her! She's a sweet heart. The worker named Nohe assisted my bf and I. She was very friendly and helpful. It's my first time renting a storage and she went through the entire process with me. I rented a 5x5 unit, paying 152 a month. It's nice in the facility and although I was told it's a little expensive for a small unit, I don't mind paying it. Oh also, the first months rent is a $1 for NEW customers!!!!! My first months rent was $1 admin fee was $22 insurance was $11, first month in total came out to about $35. So I saved a lot. Also because I reserved my locker ONLINE!!!!!!!! which is another awesome thing. You can reserve a locker for FREE for an entire week with no strings attached!! Great price! I looked at two other places and for the quality of the facility and the price, I had to go with Public Storage. Nice staff. Ample flat beds and dollies. The hours are not 24/7 but they are good enough. There's no AC but it's cool enough. Lots of parking. Overall, this is the happy medium storage location (you want something secure while reasonably priced, right?) and I'd recommend it to everyone. read more

Although I initially signed up online, I had occasion to be in contact (via telephone) with various personnel employed there. They were extremely courteous and accommodating. Upon previewing the unit on premise, I became aware that it was in the basement. I expressed my desire for a unit above ground and was informed that a similar sized unit was not available at that very moment. However, if one was to become available by the next day, they would contact me by phone. I was fortunate in that they were able to accommodate me. When finalizing the final paper work, Steven was very informative about their ancillary products & services. He was very patient with me in explaining the entry procedures and security situation. He was even more patient in clarifying some of my confusion that pertained to the documentary requirements that we went over (good for elderly people like myself). My brother had been a previous customer of theirs and never had a negative comment about them. I'm looking forward to a mutually cordial relationship. read more

In short: Do not rent here unless you are absolutely sure you can protect your valuables against damages--the front staff is nice, but their hands are tied by terrible company policies and a district manager. There are plenty of other storage facilities available of equal or better price without the building's structural damages, and, better security. Customer service in-person: fine--there are some nice folks working the desk. Customer service when you are away: difficult. Any rent hike notifications are sent via post, so if you are away on the mainland you're going to get a rude surprise when your next bill arrives. My invoices are sent to my e-mail address so I don't understand why I couldn't be notified in the same way. Price: It was decent when I had first moved in the unit. The aforementioned price hike definitely threw a wrench into my budgeting. Presumably this was for building maintenance etc etc (more on this in a second). There was no notification except for a card sent through the mail (don't they know that people put things into storage when they are otherwise not home?). If you call to voice your concern, there will be no sympathy, they will say a notification was sent and leave it at that. Facilities: It is kept clean and looks like any other storage facility, HOWEVER, closer inspection will reveal (too late for me) that your storage unit is NOT SECURE against environmental damage or thievery from its squatters Their alarm system is a joke--people live there after all. They will insist VERY STRONGLY that you take the rental insurance they offer--PUBLIC STORAGE ITSELF WILL NOT COVER DAMAGES TO YOUR PROPERTY. The structure is rife with leaks from its pipes and when there is heavy rain. I am an owner of about 1000 books and there are signs of water damage and mold everywhere. The only climate control this facility is aiming for is subtropical. This may or may not be related to their micro-war against the low-income renters (muggy environment, water fountains intentionally left in disrepair as to dissuade them from hanging around, one bathroom for the facility to be accessed only by asking front desk etc). read more

At this point I'm wondering why I have to give them even one star... I am a former long time customer of this pathetic company that was once forced to leave after repeated price increases to the point where I was paying almost double what a new tenant would pay. So I should have know better than to try them again. I needed to move from another location into a larger unit closer to my office and found a reasonable rate online with a $1 for the first month promotion. I LOGGED IN under my account so their system recognized I was an existing customer and was quoted the promotional rate which as I eventually found out I was not eligible for. Within 5 minutes I got a sales call from their office trying to schedule an appointment to come it and was again quoted the promotional rate. I made an appointment but had time a few days before to go down and look at the unit. Again they looked up my information and did not quote me the correct rate. When I finally went down with all my stuff to move in and filled out all their paperwork and contract ONLY THEN was I told that I was not eligible for the promotional rate due to my being an existing customer at another location. This is after 3 prior opportunities to correctly quote me the price I was to pay. I told them that I had already cancelled and moved out of my other unit but that didn't matter as they also have a no transfer policy for promotional rates. I asked to speak to a manager and was told to take a hike. I guess they'll have to make due with a no customer policy on my part. At that moment I decided I would not rent with them even if they gave me the rate but I wanted to explain myself to senior management. I then asked for and was given the number for "District Manager" Carol Yatsuoka and left her a message. After some phone tag the following day we talked and she proceeded to tell me that their policy is what it is and there is nothing that she or anyone else can do. When I tried to explain why I felt this was an unfair and poor business practice she repeatedly argued and talked over me and sounded like someone you could hire at a temp agency for minimum wage and not someone with actual management training. It was pathetic. I ended up hanging up on her before I totally lost my temper and it got even more ridiculous. The bottom line is we are only talking about $88 over probably a 3-5 year period I would be renting so the money was not EVER the issue for me. If I had been quoted correctly up front my stuff would be in their facility right now. It was the dirty and deceptive way I was lured into a bait and switch situation with them thinking I'll just comply like others before me and take this crap. I will never do business with this company again and recommend that everyone else do the same. It isn't the front line people at the locations that are the problem as they have been friendly and well trained. It is the uncaring and greedy Public Storage corporation that created and scripted this scam and the empty talking head "District Managers" that do their bidding. That last laugh came when I got another follow up email from them about my appointment and this time the correct price was on it. read more

I went to the waialae public storage location and was helped by Hoku she gave me 5 star customer service, I almost thought I was a celebrity how she treated me so well. Also the other co worker was awesome as well they both greeted with smiles soon as walk in the door. Already felt like home. Hoku was very detailed about the property and all paper work with good rates that satisfied me beyond my needs. This is a very great company to deal with and they are very friendly with some humor that we need at times in this life and I will for sure come back again in future and reccommend everyone to this company. Very friendly staff and nice, clean location. Kahea helped me with my rental. She was very nice and personable. All the gals in the office are actually. I chose this location because it was close to where we lived and it was climate controlled and secure. The units are a little bit more pricey than the Public Storage places in other parts of the island but I didn't mind because we were only using the unit for a very short time. I recommend reserving your unit online to get the best deal. The only issue I had was that I originally rented a smaller unit and then transferred to a bigger one two days later. It was an easy paperwork transfer that they handled super quick. After we vacated the bigger unit three days later to move into our new place, I went into the office to let them know we were done. Instead of having my month in advance that I paid for upfront prorated, I was told that the bigger unit didn't have that option. I wish I had known that from the start so that I could have asked them to look up a unit that did. I ended up paying $331.00 for six days use. It was more than I had anticipated paying for such a short term but in the end, it was the easiest route to take to store our things. Also, be aware that it seems several transient people rent lockers here to store their stuff during the day. One of the nights we went to drop off our last minute stuff, there were a couple of homeless fellas who had removed their "beds" and backpacks from the lockers and set up camp right outside the doors. My husband was with me so I wasn't worried but a gal alone might want to be careful. read more

It seems our apartment never has enough room for all our stuff...so we checked out various storage companies in Honolulu and found this one on Waialae Avenue to be the best and most convenient for our use. The entire staff has been extremely helpful for us and when I broke my femur on the east coast, my wife had to get another storage unit and move all the extra things in to allow me to sleep in our living room. She had it all prepared for me when I was allowed to fly home again. Again the staff were most helpful in assisting her. Of course the facilities, which are secure, clean climate controlled and convenient with plenty of aisle space to allow for one to pack the unit properly is a given...but it's the pleasant and most helpful staff who after 5 years know us by name, is a big plus! read more

I'm a college student who needed a unit over the summer and went to the Public Storage on Waialae Ave multiple times for prices and such, and each time I received excellent customer service from multiple employees. I was kindly greeted every time and upon explaining our group's situation they offered to show us any unit they thought might help. One of the employees, Hoku, had a perfect understanding of the needs of a college student and met our lack of experience with a positive and professional demeanor. She had excellent knowledge on the storage process and great advice for students storing items for the first time; she was an all around perfect employee with a genuine friendly attitude as well as being very efficient when arranging the lease. Prices were not bad for the size of the unit, but the consistency of the excellent customer service made the process all the easier for a couple of students who have never rented a unit before. read more
