What a disgrace. After wasting over $2,000 on a storage unit for 2+ years, my fiancé and I finally went to empty it out and break the chains today. We arrived to find the doors and the elevator out of order and couldn't access his 3rd floor unit. When we inquired at the office about extending his 'vacate by' date, the employee on duty told us that he'd have to pay a daily rate to stay longer. You do see the irony, right? We literally cannot empty the unit due to their negligence, yet we are expected to pay for more time. She told us to call the General Manager to "complain." I'm sure that's going to go well. Assuming we can get the last of Ted's stuff out, I swear we will never again get a storage unit and especially not at this dump. read more

Admittedly, having a self storage unit allowed me to indulge my inner hoarder and keep items that I no longer had use for. I've had a self storage unit at this Public Storage since January of 2015, when they took over for Morningstar. At that time, it was a clean, well maintained facility and the fees were a reasonable $51 per month for 5x10. Fast forward and the same 5x10 unit was now over $90 per month...and what do you get for the extra 39 per month: 1) Broken everything, from doors to carts and elevators. Everything is broken all the time. 2) Extremely filthy elevators. If you've ever had the unfortunate circumstance to use an elevator to access a DC Metro station, you would be pleasantly surprised at how clean the DC Metro elevators are by comparison (and if you don't get the reference, people use the bathrooms in DC Metro elevators). 3) Locked everything. Main office: locked. Bathrooms: Locked (which likely explains my second point). Dumpsters: not locked. 4) Motion detector lights that are on for the absolute least amount of time possible. I started bringing a flashlight when going through the unit because without one, good luck seeing what the unit has to behold. Why 2 stars then? Aside from the constant price increases and the dirty facility, erratic motion lights, locked everything and broken everything else, the managers were always super nice to deal with. read more

I stored my clothing and house items here for over a year in a 10 wide by 5 deep unit 3013. After emptying the unit on 10/18 them saying that it was 10/20. I noticed that my boot soles were sticky, I decided to where them out and by the time I got to my car and reached my destination I noticed the sole of my boots on the floor of my car. I started to research the issue and seen it's called hydrolysis. This happens to polyurethane soles of stored in hot and humid conditions. How it got hot and humid in a climate controlled unit when the company site clearly states you should have piece and mind that your property won't endure such conditions. Zackary James the regional manager was no help and feels that I should be responsible for their lack of climate control. Yes something is always broken here. You can't control the climate if the building is not insulated correctly. read more

When this building first opened it was a Morningstar Storage and we loved it. Several years later, Public Storage took over and, like many have already mentioned in their reviews, it went downhill from there. Pride in the building, maintenance of the location, and climate control, all took a major hit. We didn't move our things because the only other options at the time were more Public Storage locations. It wasn't worth the effort, so we grumbled silently to ourselves. Then a Morningstar opened up in South End and you can bet your ass that we IMMEDIATELY moved into that location. It was glorious. The one thing the Public Storage got right was their checkout process. Quick, painless, and without a hassle. They didn't even care why we were leaving after such a long tenure at that location. I guess they're used to rats fleeing a sinking ship. read more

The building itself is fairly new. It used to be another local storage company. After Public Storage, the quality really went down. 1. Garbage and the walls look beat-up. You could not tell this building is only 5 years old. 2. Elevator is extremely slow or broken 3. I have come several times in the evenings to find that the secure ground floor doors are wide open! Clearly your storage is public here. 4. Is A/C controlled, but the air temp seems high on the 2nd floor. Not as climate controlled as I would like. 5. All this and they raise the prices from the previous owner who did better at maintaining the property. 6. When alerted to the issues, the manager on site said, "I always have the option to move out." Rather than committing to running a quality establishment. At the end of the day, better options out there for same or less money. read more

Moved from one Public Storage on North Tryon to this for two reasons: Proximity and Relevance. While this building looks far nicer (modern) than those little older properties on North Tryon. The one thing very common to them is LACK OF CLEANLINESS. I lost count how many times I had to go to the office, and plead with someone (mostly, manager on duty) to have the elevator cleaned. Past week or two, it's been better BUT oh boy, they do NOT keep the places neat. I just feel like I get what I pay for, as compared to a slightly higher prices I used to pay at Morningstar. Restricted access 6-9 also doesn't sit too well with me. read more

Disappointed! We needed a storage unit due to a personal emergency. We "reserved a 10 x 15 unit online. When we arrived they couldn't fulfill the reservation as the unit was broken. The associate had no interest in correcting the problem by giving us a slightly smaller unit temporarily. I'm disappointed that Public Storage isn't interested in trying to correct their own mistakes. Don't advertise something if it isn't available! Sad to see when large companies don't care about customer service. read more

I am surprised by the reviews below. All my experiences have been way better than I could expect. Facility is in great shape, grounds have been well kept up and parking lot is very convenient. The best part though is Teray the property manager. She has made the experience extremely pleasant and has always been helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

What happened to Tiffany? She was a professional. Instead I had to deal with a manager named Teray. She's not a professional that should be representing this business. I called the Senior Regional VP, a Mr. Andreson, and I'm still awaiting his call to thoroughly discuss the conversation that was had with his representative. I had a smooth experience with Joshelyn and Deana. I wasn't feeling well when I checked in and they made the process as easy and seamless as possible. I particularly liked the fact that they personally showed me my unit and showed me how to lock and unlock the unit. The locks are a tad tricky and for someone that has not been shown how to adjust the lock, it might be confusing. I did the fast check-in online so when I arrived outside of my appointment time, they were already set up to walk me through my check-in. Great customer service and I'll definitely recommend them to any of my friends looking for storage in the future. read more

Two complaints - (1)The primary exterior double door has been broken to my knowledge for easily 6 weeks, and perhaps longer. This is a huge inconveniece because the two operational doors are just slightly over standard width and therefore make moving awkward and slow. Wide items require special handling to fit through the door. Also, with only two doors operational today we had to wait for our turn to enter the building. This is absurd. (2) Public Storage has chosen to light their parking lot with the absolute minimum amount of lighting. There are 6 or 8 excellent exterior lights in the parking area the company chooses not to use. I have called several times to express my concern with no change and no return call. I'm confident it's all about the money. They are clearly not concerned about the safety and comfort of their customer. Morning Star was excellent. Public Storage is poorly managed and will fail in time. I do not recommend this facility. read more
