The good part first: we had two storage units from August to November for our household goods and enough space for 21000 lbs. The units were not too far apart and close to doors for the movers to put it and take out. We were lucky to be able to switch one so they would be closer together when we arrived in august because initially one unit smelled horrible and was very dark. All the staff that answered the phone were nice and helpful. During the four months maintenance issues were not addressed at all. The "climate control " didn't work, doors were broken to enter the building where our units were located and lights in the unit were not working properly. The gate to get in and out worked fine. The hallways were filthy and poorly lit. We pointed out what didn't work each time we were there and were told a "work order" was put in. Nothing was ever fixed for months. The only bathrooms near the main office were frequently unusable/broken? and this was not acceptable for the movers who worked hard for many hours moving our goods in and out. My husband had to use the furniture store across the street after being refused to use the staff bathroom (which we used in the past when a nice office staff woman took pity) by the ? manager. read more

This should be your last resort for storage. I rented in 12/22 and received rate increases in 2/23 (+33%), 11/23 (+13%), 08/24. (+22%) Over 85% in less than 2 years. Earlier this year I received a call that there had been an "incident" and I needed to come down there immediately. When I got there, I was told no one was allowed in. When I finally forced myself in, I was told that my unit had been broken into and then was handed a piece of paper with the police report number. If I wanted to know anything I could contact the police. There was no apology. There was no indication that security would be beefed up. There was nothing to indicate that they cared at all. You all need to improve everything starting with the customer service. I only put one star because that's the lowest I could go. When I had my storage unit people would live in the inside the building. I think that's unfortunate that they felt that they had to do that however, my unit was on the outside and right beside the air condition unit and people would pee there and when I go to my unit, I can smell the pee. I reported it to customer service and nothing was said or done. I asked several times to try to sign the document to have my storage unit cut open because my key was stolen. I never could get connected with management to do it. I waited for over an hour for the young lady, the manager to come back as the other worker that was in The told me she was on the way back and she never came back. It was just a horrible experience having a storage unit there. There was always a trail of water coming from one of the buildings and one day. I asked the manager what that was and she was like she didn't know. I remember seeing what looks like people that wash cars out there washing cars and the water would run down and it was during times when it would freeze up it was a mess. When I would call customer service and ask them how the office was ran like is it always somebody there from certain hours? Is it somebody that they have come in only by appointment and I would get conflicting stories. read more

This property is great until you try to cancel. They never answer the phone and even when you do cancel they don't finish the process on their end and try to charge you for additional months but you can never resolve the issue because they NEVER answer the phone. read more

Terrible customer, have left 5 voicemails over a 20 day time frame with no return phone calls, moved out of unit and they are still requiring that I pay another month because we accidentally left a lock on the unit even though we scheduled the move out date on-line. Also charged me late fees and were super rude when we showed up to take care of it. I had been a customer there for 5 years and was treated horribly upon trying to vacate. Also, I showed up to retrieve my items and my unit had been tampered with by the staff, my locks were off my units and they had replaced them with their own locks; when I finally got access I found my locks inside my unit with no explanation of why they had done this. It is so bad I want to give you a zero, but that's not possible so I give you a 1. Long story short my husband and I had our belongings in this unit for maybe 3 hours at most. It smelled awful in the "climate controlled" building. It hit me as soon as we walked in but I thought I was over reacting. Moving is stressful enough so I didn't wanna make a fuss about it. We moved our stuff in and after we left I had a pounding heading due to the potent smell of moth balls and chemicals. I couldn't bare the thought of leaving our stuff in the unit for 2 months and have that awful smell seep into all of our belongings. I told my husband I wanted to find another facility. I'm so glad I trusted my gut because when we returned to move our stuff out I noticed something in our unit. Rodent poisoning. YUM! When I arrived to my storage unit yesterday, it was not cleaned before the previous tenant. There was trash, crushed up pills, and a bunch of leaves and dirt. In addition to that there was a hole in the side of the unit which I can only imagine will bring it bugs and heat. Here is the water damage caused inside a unit at this location. All my collector books molded & ruined. It has been over two months & the insurance purchased through the public storage has done nothing besides provide excuses saying they need more information & more photos pertaining to the damage. No one at this facility has attempted to help with this issue or even taken a moment to show they care. 28 years of a collection ruined. DON'T put your trust in these storage facilities. Updated 10/20/2020: Originally this claim was started on 6/30/2020. They left me a messaged asking me to accept a measly $672 on 10/05/2020 from an unknown number that I can't call back for my ruined collection of books. I have called to just speak with someone every day since and still have not heard back from anyone. I will can not express more how terrible this company is, they have left us in the dark the entire time showing they truly don't care about anything you store with them. There is no way to reach (ANYONE) through the website. Totally ridiculous. I have been paying Public Storage $200.00 per month for 14 months and no one to help with billing issues! Kalisha helped me through the mess and resolved the issues that have been going on for more than a month. Don't deal with corporate, call Kalisha at Public Storage in Charlotte if you need a rental. We've rented here for several years. They've raised rates, removed a gate, so access is difficult. It is dingy, dirty and there are never any carts by the doors. One gate seems broken and is now open all the time for anyone to drive in. Trying to call to ask questions or check on gate repair, gets you a full mailbox where a message cannot be left. We're moving to another facility that is secure and clean and has carts. read more

This review is for 4555 South Blvd. I pay for climate control but I've gone into the building several time during non-working hours and there is no heat or air on during these times. Even though I pay for 24-hour climate control. They cut the HVAC off and it's not turned back on until someone comes into the office. What a ripoff. This company is straight trash. They go up on your rent every 6 months. So it doesn't matter if you get a move-in deal they are quick to go up on you as soon as they can. I had to move out and stop dealing with them, they're horrible. read more

This place makes you think that they are nice and accommodating and in reality they are liars and basically thieves. We rented for one month paid in full. My daughter needed the space 2 extra days. The manager was very nice and said it was not a problem. She got her stuff out as agreed and one month later we get a bill from a credit agency! I called and he made up a lie about telling her she has to come in and "cancel" her contract. He Never said any such thing. So now we have to pay the credit agency who said public storage would agree to take "half"...obviously they know they were wrong. Her stuff was out and he knew it! Absolutely terrible. My fiancée and I have a unit with this location only because the other local location on Crump Rd did not have space. When we got moved in, we had a rate that was supposed to be secured for one year. We've only been here for three months and the bill has never been correct: they've been overcharging by about $30. Additionally, we got a notice in the mail today that the insurance that we purchased was being cancelled for nonpayment. Elliott, the district manager, has been less than helpful, has neglected to return calls and has not followed up with the rate change request. I had a unit at this location for two years. A month before I was moving out of it, my unit was broken into. Nobody else's unit around mine was reported to be broken into and after reporting it, I never received a call back from the property manager although the person I reported it to at the front office advised me that she was leaving a message regarding the break-in. I contacted customer service two different times a couple of weeks apart who claimed to have contacted the property manager on his cellular phone leaving him a message regarding my issue and then a second time telling he/she that I was still waiting to hear from someone. Two weeks after I moved into my unit, I discovered a family of roaches crawling and perching on my boxes and my other belongings. The property manager said a recent customer supplied food inside her boxes which apparently drew in these disgusting pests. From that day on, the once clean floors were littered with dead roaches and roach traps in the corners of some of the units. And if this was not bad enough, many of the units experienced flooding after two days of never-ending rain. My bookcase, my couch, my TV stand, my mattress were all destroyed. The manager said the water reservation, or something, was stopped up. For compensation, all she did was give me a new unit. No free one month rent for my stress. To add to my deplorable experience, the new unit was festered with more roaches. After filing an insurance claim, the company that they work with could not give me enough money to replace my damaged belongings. Depreciation is an insurer's best friend. I moved out the next month to Cubesmart, where the building is clean and insect free. I understand that roach infestations and flooding can happen, but the company must prepare diligently for these unexpected occurrences. Public Storage did not. The building is old and the maintenance is poor. The customer service is okay; some employees are kind, some can be lazy fools. After I informed the office that I have moved out, one of the receptionists actually asked if I enjoyed my experience. I just replied, "Do you really want to know?" I am attempting to terminate my lease with this company, and I have notes from the day I signed the lease when I asked the representative about their termination policy. She said I needed to inform them at least 30 days prior to move out, and before the first of the month that I am moving out, or else I would be charged for that entire month. I am 30 days from my desired move-out date, and it's before the first of October, and they're telling me I have to pay the full month of October. To review my interactions with Public Storage: they have lied to my face, increased rates by 25%, and charged me for double my actual usage during the last month.
