UHaul truck for the long drive
    Bruce K.

It's funny how it's almost exactly four years later and now we're moving my daughter back to Charlotte. The U-Haul small box truck that I picked up in Little Rock Arkansas and dropped here at the franchise in Charlotte was super easy. This time, a smaller truck and a two-wheel tow dolly with the car on it. No problems at all with the truck or the tow. The same lack of features hasn't changed. It would have been awesome to have cruise control but there was plenty of cup-holder space and a three-prong outlet on the dashboard for powering electronics. Other than not wanting to go any faster than 60 miles per hour, it was completely easy to drive. It was just barely comfortable, leg-room wise, for me at 6' tall. Someone much taller than that would not go well. Dropping off was easy. Pull up to the spot, take a few pictures for documentation, hand over the keys, then call for my Uber to the airport. I'm still a fan and I'll use U-Haul again for the next move. If it ever happens. [Review 11168 overall, 943 of 2019.]

    Lots of bays for installs.

For me, U-Haul has been the household name and go-to for rentals since I was a kid. Nobody ever mentioned those other companies like Budget or Ryder. Maybe they're just not big in NC. For me it was a natural choice when I wanted a hitch and a trailer rental to go straight here. I had my hitch installed about a year ago at a different U-Haul location. I got it to put a bike rack on. It's really the sturdiest option for any bike rack on any car and it's the least likely to leave your car with scratched paint (compared to those rack you put onto your trunk with hooks and straps. This time I needed to get the ball to tow a trailer and, of course, the trailer itself. The rental was cheap - just $15 a day. The cheapest insurance option is just $8 a day and covers up to $5,000 in damage. For me it was perfect. So, a trailer rental out the door for $23+tax. Turns out, after I'd signed the rental agreement the guys at the shop noticed I didn't have any wiring on my car for lights. Apparently, if you tell them at the time of hitch install that you're only planning to use it for a bike rack they won't bother installing the wires. Turned out to be no big deal. They worked me in for wiring install. That, unfortunately, was $130 without tax. It's possible I'm sure to do it yourself or somewhere else for a lot less but I had no other choice and I was on a time crunch. Everything finished up and I got a hitch ball and trailer on my car. It was the first time for me to tow a trailer so it was a bit stressful. The staff don't seem too bothered by a "noob" taking a trailer out without ever having done so before. So, with great hesitation, I asked "...so am I good to go?" they said "yes" and I was off. Back home I loaded up my motorcycle on the open-top trailer. The back end lays down to become a ramp. The grate on it is tough and very easy to grip with a proper pair of shoes. Getting the bike on and tied down was a breeze. Never had any problems with the trailer other than it bouncing around and being generally loud when I ran it over holes in the road. After dropping the bike off at the shop I promptly returned the trailer to the shop. They will "pro-rate" the rental cost if you bring it back early so don't worry too much if you overestimate the amount of time you need it. All in all, not a bad deal. I will certainly consider them again for an upcoming move I'll be doing.

The untrained techs that work here broke our propane tank. Always lousy customer service. Nobody cares, you can tell. Hate going there.

Drove 30 miles after booking a reservation to find they don't have the part, then offered no solution or apology.

It is with a heavy heart that I must submit this review. However, I have spoken with SGI Transport…read moreon several occasions and no course of action has taken place and I have been treated very unfairly with the accident that their business caused. On July 26th, 2025 SGI Transport INC provided a mobile service to change and replace a flat tire on one of my work vehicles. (The end of July until mid-August is our slowest time of the season and the truck was not utilized.) However, August 21st, 2025 when we were back to using the truck the tire and rim COMPLETELY broke off of the truck. My driver was not hurt physically or any other driver thankfully. However, my driver was emotionally scared and quit as a result. After having the truck towed to the Auto Repair Shop, the diagnostic reported that the tire was not properly reinstalled and secured. (This is a heavy 6,000 lb truck). As a result, when my driver was driving the tire was loose and the vibration from the truck and road SNAPPED each stud one by one until the rim and tire flew off into the woods off the side of the road, never recovered. I kindly called Eric at SGI Transport and explained the situation. He recalled it very well of the tire change and mentioned that he informed my driver that a lug nut was missing (however, the next day Kevin mentioned that Eric misspoke and it was actually a stud missing). Regardless of what vital piece was missing, I as the owner and payee was never notified. The receipt that was provided only had the tire size and location in the notes but never informed us of the safety hazard of a missing "lug nut" or "stud". This accident could have resulted in a fatality and I was extremely disappointed when I called SGI Transport and spoke with Eric. He was very defensive and stated that it was my fault for "not paying attention to my business." I was shocked that he would speak to a customer in that manner. He then proceeded to use excessive profanity and then hung the phone up on me. I called back and was presented with the same treatment and then hung up on again. The following day I called back and I believe that I spoke with Kevin. He was calmer and more collect and we actually had a discussion about the situation. He then asked for me to email him the pictures and repairs but they guy or SGI Transport never responded to show the slightest of concern for my driver or situation that they caused. I am all for supporting other small business owner's and I was very patient with waiting for them to do the right thing, but I refuse to be bullied and ignored and punished for negligence during their installation. Knowing that a "lug nut" or "stud" was missing from the tire and it being a safety hazard and SGI still proceeding with the job was unprofessional and extremely irresponsible from a fiduciary stance. It turns out that the company also has a BBB (Better Business Bureau) complaint against them from January 2025.

I had a blowout on I-77N and they came out (took a minute so I went to a safe place) they texted me…read morewhen 20 minutes out. They did all the tests on the new tire and installed it on the side of 77N. Then bc my hazards had been on for 3 hours the battery died (BTW they jumped me too) but I was safe and he was knowledgeable and fast when he got there) so grateful
