This was an expansive hardware store, that carried most everything from soup to nuts. Spread out over two floors, this place really pays homage to the old full service hardware stores ... whatever you need, they probably have it. While prices here are not rock bottom, that is not their goal. They do not seek to be the lowest price ... like big box stores ... but rather they want to be the full service option. For example, you need screens re-screened ... they'll do it. Liked this store a lot. Greeted when we came in, and loads of service people there to help you. I'm always so enthusiastic about coming here and I've been doing it for many, many years since the mid-70's. It get's better every year and it's a great place to find affordable Christmas gifts for kids. The Staff here is always helpful and ready to assist with a smile. Today, when I walked in, I was greeted by two golden doodles in Christmas gear sitting by the fireplace. They have such a great variety of products year round. I literally stumbled across this place with my family after we picked up some snacks from the grocery store. My mom is an absolute green thumb fanatic and loves anything and everything that has to deal with orchids and plants of all sorts! We didn't expect this place to be as awesome as it was! They had every plant under the sun to plants that attract pollinators and to create your own butterfly garden. They have beautiful pots and trinkets to beautify your garden and home with. Blackhawk (owned by Ace) is a hybrid of an upscale hardware store, toy store, and home goods store.. and I love it! I am always greeted by smiling employees. The place is dog friendly and even has a dog bathing station! Recently, I have come here for toddler toys. They have dinosaurs, puzzles, toy cars, bubbles etc. they are more expensive than online options but the in person experience and friendly customer service is worth the up charge. On the weekends, you find lots of parents with their kids here. I enjoy browsing the aisles since there are so many different categories of home needs sold here. read more

What an exciting trip! I visited the store to have my hedge trimmers sharpened. I was glad to have the opportunity to peruse the many offerings inside and outside. The cabinet/drawer hardware is plentiful, though you may have to order the supply you need. They have grills, swim supplies, kitchenware, pots and cups, paint, wind chimes, paint shop, and they make keys. Then there is the downstairs for your gardening and general household needs. Such an amazing establishment from the products to the staff. My favorite is the gardening section which has some of the most beautiful plants i've ever seen and the help from the employees was amazing. Hardware and so much more. Blackhawk Hardware is where it's at. They have free popcorn and a coffee bar inside. The coffee is not free but it is freshly gound and brewed for you when you order. There is so much stuff is here. Holiday decorations, home goods, hardware, lawn care. And a great sense of humor. Like an aisle of life (seed and fertilizer) and an aisle of death (pesticide). We came here around Christmas time. We bought some mulch for our garden, some Christmas lights, and Christmas ornaments. This Hardware store feels good just to step in here. There are tons of employees available to help you find what you need. There are cash registers WITH EMPLOYEES WORKING AT THEM at all exits. I refuse to shop at any store that forces you to scan your own items. I don't work there. Lol. It is refreshing to see employees helping customers. They also have very unique items inside the store. We even found a rootbeer made in my hometown in Indiana here ! Items are a bit more expensive, but this store is so much better than the cold, uncaring atmosphere of Lowes. Each time we stop in at Blackhawk, we buy some of their flavored sodas. There's even free popcorn while you shop ! There's only a couple of things that prevented me from giving 5 stars. One was a "lifestyle' Christmas tree that was highly offensive with offensive Christmas ornaments. I was surprised to see something like this in an otherwise pleasant retail store. I would suggest they skip putting out this tree next year. I happened to be standing nearby when there was a group of lady employees discussing this tree, how these ornaments did not sell well, and that they should reduce their order and use a smaller tree next year. Well, your Customers are showing you by NOT BUYING IT that they do not want these ornaments. Children likely had to be scooted by this tree quickly before questions were asked. This tree's presence was offensive to many Customers, so why on earth would you put a tree up for CHRISTMAS, literally for God's sake ? Very disappointing. The second issue was that one of their employees was wearing a mask at the cash register at the front of the store. If this employee is sick, they should not be at work. Or if this employee feels that uncomfortable around people, then I am sure the store could have them work at stocking or something. It is not a friendly environment when you cannot see someone's face. Otherwise, we were very pleased with this store. But, I suspect they simply have one bad apple in management/ purchasing making poor decisions and hopefully a higher level manager will correct this in the future. read more

It's been so long since I've been here...and good to see that it survived Covid! Although some shelves were not fully stocked, the vast varieties were still there. I'm not really into hardware, but this place has just about everything else... really something for everyone. On my recent excursion, I bought some cool coasters (see pic!) and even a dog toy (I'm an Aunt to a Pitbull Puppy!). I loved the wide selection of dog toys they still had! Yep...something for everyone! One thing that was awkard and unnecessary was that there were one too many service reps roaming the store, spooking up on you, asking if you needed any help. I wondered if they were placed throughout the store more of less to see if folks may be stealing things...versus actual customer service. No matter the case, I found that a bit unnerving. We went all over Charlotte looking for someone that could make a car key copy, without the chip/FOB. No one could do it from two different Home Depot's, a Lowe's Home Improvement, a dealership, and even a locksmith. My son was leaving for college and desperately needed a new key! Finally, I decided to called my childhood, neighborhood Hardware store and just like that we were on our way. When we got to Black Hawk, Westin was so knowledgeable, patient, and efficient. He knew exactly what we needed and what we were asking for, and worked through a few different tries to get the perfect key cut to match so it would work properly. Thank you so much, Westin! Absolutely incredible collection of items - to literally mitigate any possible problem or obstacle that could potentially give a problem or need fixing in your home/business. The selection is unbelievable! Popcorn Machine that is constantly running is totally awesome. Amazing place - from what I've been told to go and copy keys - I believe they have everything that you could possible desire. They are a bit expensive - on a few things; - But, sometimes paying a few "Shekels" more is worth it - because you are getting tremendous service from very knowledgeable employees. Again - They literally have everything you could possible need for your home. Very impressive selection of knives and cutlery. Went to Blackhawk to buy a big green egg. I just wanted a match in price from local competition. Ace hardware offers a match I found out they are not a real Ace store but privately owned. Was told to buy it from the competitor since they dont give discounts. I have spent thousands over the years with them but they truly dont want my business. I asked for a manager and was told he just gonna tell you the same and he wouldn't call one. Would love to speak to that owner. Oh well bought everything from the competitor. I never thought I'd be reviewing a hardware store yet here we are. I was DRAGGED here by my parents after my stepdad discovered this place the day before. He said "oh, it's like if Amazon had a store and they have great coffee." and they promised Amelie's beforehand if I went. I'm so glad I did! This place is more than just a hardware store. I was expecting a snoozefest like Home Depot but there's more! There's a huge garden center with lovely plants and fountains, the bottom floor is all the boring stuff to me like tools and tool accessories, and the top level had fun stuff like all kinds of candles, kitchen gadgets, home stuff, pet things, aaaaand the small coffee stand that makes AMAZING coffee! Did you know this place had a coffee shop? I didn't and it's GOOD. Like, REALLY GOOD coffee. Because they do small batch pour overs, it takes longer to make than your standard coffee shop but it's so worth it. Even their decaf was awesome. There's a one pager that explains what they do to their beans. The young guy behind the counter was very friendly and did a great job with the coffee. In fact, every employee we encountered here was SO nice and helpful. Every employee greets you and asks if you need anything and they're more than happy to help. I will definitely willingly go back here to look at all the non-tool things anytime and I highly encourage everyone to support this wonderful family-owned business before you head to Lowes or Home Depot! read more

This hardware store is a gem for the city of Charlotte--a massive store that sells just about everything under the sun. They offer free popcorn while you shop and the folks who work here couldn't be any nicer. If you have a friendly four-legged friend, be sure to bring him too--they are dog-friendly. I actually come here to use their dog-washing station for my own pup. For $10 you can bathe your pup, with a really sophisticated washing station and after every 5th wash you'll get one free. I can't believe I haven't been here until recently. They've been around since before I was born, so clearly since before I first came to Charlotte. Everyone has been hyping them up to me and with good reason. It's pretty awesome and just overwhelming in here. First thing to catch my eye was free popcorn. Why yes, yes I will partake. They keep you reeled in in any way possible. The store is massive, which is actually quite surprising considering the location. The exterior on the front is rather deceiving. It meanwhile has just about everything you can get at a big-box store like Lowe's or Home Depot and it's super convenient to all the upstanding neighborhoods nearby. Tools, hardware, kitchen supplies, gift cards, home décor, building and home repair materials all the way down to the plumbing. There's even a coffee shop snugged right into the front of the store. There are employees practically everywhere in droves just eager to help you. Lots of check out lines and just an unexpectedly modern set up. As it is essentially an ACE Hardware, it's no surprise that the store is so awesome. The prices do speak to the location and the clientele however. Most items are several dollars more than those at a large store on the outskirts of town. Still, you owe it to yourself to check this place out - it's truly an experience. read more

This is my new favorite place! I don't know how or why it took me so long to discover this place! I never knew a hardware store could (would) offer so much! The customer service was phenomenal. I was greeted at the door by the receptionist/cashier (with a smile) and the scent of fresh popcorn. I rounded the corner only to be greeted again. I received a quick lay of land. I noticed a couple of dogs wandering about. They paid me no attention. I was there to get a new fob/key cut. But I left with so much more. I discovered the dog wash station. The Christmas ornaments selection was like none other. I love the blue tree!! Well $75 later I found the angels I wanted. I was unaware that Blackhawk spoke my love language, plants. An elevator ride to the basement (no greetings from the older gentlemen as I exited the elevator. The 2nd floors provided a totally different experience. It's like being in another store. Upstairs was the party and all business downstairs. I wasted no time adventuring outside to discover the Garden Center. There's a nice selection of seasonal plants and pottery. The plant shop offered an array of houseplants. The only cons... I spent over $200 before I was informed of the Ace reward card. The downstairs staff lack of customer service or a simple greeting. But I totally avoided the staff by taking the stairs up to the plaza. I am still waiting on the back ordered fob (not a Blackhawk issue). read more

Probably my second favorite Hardware Store after Lehman Hardware in Kidron, Ohio Blackhawk Hardward has been here since the early 1970's and when I lived on this side of town, it was my come to Hardware Store and where I bought my tomato stakes and cages every year. Looking for something hard to find, this is the place. After we moved back from Pennsylvania, this was and is my wife favorite Hardware Store even though it is a bit a drive from Cornelius. There were several occassions where she was looking for something like a pull for a drawer and could not find it. Blackhawk had it. Staff is great and will take the time to work with you to find what you need. Definitely not a level of service you get in one of the Big Box Stores. Dropped into today after lunch next door at Flying Biscuit and great as usual. By the Way, Lehman's Hardware in Kidron Ohio is in the middle of Amish Country and you will see one of a kind items there, you never imagined. read more

Went to this place purposely but at the same time on a whim to cash in a LOLO for Dunx Coffee. Since this is where Dunx Coffee is, this is where I went. I, however, must say that I LOVE Park Road Shopping Center. There is a bit of everything and everything in there is amazing! I had seen some photos online before visiting but I was not prepared! They have everything! I wish some of the prices were a little bit lower on some of the outdoor furniture and some other items in the store, but overall I was very pleased! The people who work there are extremely friendly and helpful! They know what they are talking about! I think it is a family business, which I like even more, but I'm not 100% on that. They have everything from grill parts to window coverings and kitchen towels to fruit trees and an entire garden center to everything a normal hardware store has like actual hardware and tools!! I found a knife and blade sharpening tool, mosquito dunks and a gauge that tests the water pressure! I also park in their free popcorn and signed up for their points card while checking out!! Consider what Whole Foods did for the grocery store industry and Blackhawk is kind of the same thing. It's an Ace Hardware affiliate with a local spin that focuses on service, service, service! I stop in here occasionally, usually to browse or for something special. For example, their cabinet drawers and knobs department is bigger than some places whole store. They have an entire space dedicated to the Big Green Egg grill. During Christmas time, they have thousands upon thousands of different ornaments adorned on several Christmas Trees in the front of the store. You get the gist, they go all out in just about everything they do. One thing I think a lot of people miss is the back lot garden center. A lot of unique outdoors goodies and plants, with another indoor section with many indoor plants as well. I could peruse this wonderland for hours just admiring their own setup, almost to the point where I don't need it at home! Come for the free popcorn, stay because they spoil you. They have dozens of employees whose sole job is to assist customers, and that's it! They even give these guys and gals seats at their station because that's ALL they are supposed to do. I've never wasted a minute looking for anything in Blackhawk because within 10 feet of me, there has always been someone ready to ask if I couldn't find what I was looking for. Also, each person is somewhat of an expert on their section. The guy over plumbing used to be a plumber, the garden gal is an outdoor enthusiast, and the electrical department guy can tell you exactly what to do to get your latest project up to code. If you like the concept of supporting local and realize that means you're going to pay more than the behemoth hardware stores, then this place is for you. I went there this morning to pick up a table for my big green egg. A guy named Michael helped me right away and helped me out it in my car and told me exactly how to put it together. When I got home one of the legs were cracked when I opened the box. I called and got to speak to him on the phone, and he told me he would have one out together when I got there so not to worry. When I got there, I noticed 4 different people rushing to put the table together so I would not have to wait. I can not remember the last time that I have been this impressed with customer service! Besides the endless rounds of FREE popcorn, I truly enjoy coming to Blackhawk. The staff here are insanely nice and friendly and I love that there's someone that will connect with you on each aisle. I've had the privilege of chatting with a few older men who remind me so much of my grandfather. Sweetest and kindest heart but wants to make sure you have all you need for your project. My grandfather passed away over 15 years ago and I miss him daily. But being in Blackhawk reminds me so much of him, especially when I get to speak with a attendant that was around his age. I also enjoy venturing down to the garden that's located behind the store. There's a little alley way in the middle of the park road shopping center that will lead you to the location. They have everything you'll need from beginning to end gardening projects. I've come here several times in need of assistance with my plants or projects I've had. The only thing missing at Blackhawk Hardware is a luncheon counter in the back serving bottomless cups of coffee, grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, and homemade apple pie. Seriously, Blackhawk is a genuine throwback to when going to the hardware store was more than a quick in-an-out: it was an adventure with your Dad. After he had moseyed along the aisles, saying "hello" to everyone, and finally found that thing-a-ma-jig to fit on to that whatcha-ma-callit, you might as well have a cup of coffee and some pie, too. Like John H and Kate T mentioned in their reviews, the place abounds with associates each assigned to their stations. Very helpful. And, for guys like me who enjoy fixing my own stuff, I LOVE the hundreds of open containers of screws, nuts, bolts, fasteners, etc to restore my whatever to its original glory (or something close enough). Need two nails, a dozen #10 brass screws, and 6, 1/2" diameter washers? No problem. Light bulbs? Yep. Now . . . all this nostalgia comes at a price and quickly you are reminded why big box wonders have succeeded . . . buying power. But, if you want to trade a little better price for service, easy in/out, expertise, and a fun outing (sans the lunch counter), I cannot think of any better place than Blackhawk Hardware. read more

Every time I go to Blackhawk it is a wonderful experience. My most recent experience was getting keys made, which Alec and Boran helped me with. They were incredibly helpful and considerate to me and everyone else I saw them interact with. This store is dog friendly so I have brought my pups and everyone is so happy to see them, they even have treats at the front for the pups! There is so much at this store, it's really incredible. Plus there is a garden center which is just spectacular, and all of the employees seem to know a lot about the section of the store they work in. 10/10, would recommend. read more
