Sells Used Equipment and represents it as running/good condition and then you use it for a little while and find out it is NOT in good running order, carburetor malfunction be cause ethanol gas was used in it that's why he got it from the owner.!! Tried to tell me contaminated gas was taken out of my weed eater that i bought used from him and it was the gas he had put in it!! Outstanding service experience! I was unable to remove the blade from my lawn mower for sharpening and called then in advance to see if they could take care of it. First of all, they were actually opened on a Sat afternoon and said they would be open until 4:00. I loaded my Honda mower into my van and when I arrived, Karl offered to take the blade off immediately and sharpen it - no need to drop it off and come back a week later. He offered to replace the bolts (since they were old and worn) and checked my oil and topped it off. I was back on the road in 15 mins and the cost was lower than I expected to pay for that kind of service! It is so rare to get that kind of rapid, friendly reliable service anymore. I've taken a lot of equipment to these guys and generally they've been good but recently I took a handheld gas blower to them because it wouldn't start. I paid a $26 diagnostic fee. They called and said it had low compression and would cost $75 more to fix. I figured a new blower would cost more so I told them to proceed. When I picked it up the bill was $100, so now I'm at $126, more than originally quoted. When I got home, blower would not start at all. I called and they said they warned me it had low compression but they didn't say it wouldn't start. Now $126 in the hole, I have to buy another blower. They should have just said 'it can't be fixed' so I didn't waste the extra $100. read more

The employees here are very friendly and knowledgeable. I've taken lawnmowers, a leaf blower and a chainsaw here to get fixed. They charge a good and fair price. Turnaround may be a bit long but I think that's due to so many people bringing their equipment here for maintenance and fixing. The lady at the front of the store is friendly and let's you know what may be done and what price it may be and the estimated time to correct the equipment. I have 36" Scag mower I couldn't get to start. I contacted local shops to see how much they would charge to come pick it up to do the repair. Lay of the Land is about 5 miles away and wanted to charge me almost $50 each way. So I had a repairman come to my house in an attempt to get it running. After more than 2 hours he couldn't figure it out and just gave up. I found Mathews Power Equipment on Yelp and gave them a call. They told me they would come get it and return it for $45- good deal so I told them to come get it. They figured out why it wouldn't start, fixed that, changed the oil, sharpened the blades basically gave it a full servicing and returned it to my home all for $207. I've taken my push mower here a couple of times in the least few years, and they're consistently able to get it sounding like new again. The first issue was a cheap carburetor combined with ethanol fuel, and they replaced the carb under warranty. The second issue was caused by debris in the fuel lines (despite switching to non-ethanol), but they also serviced every component to make sure nothing else was creating problems. The service is always great but 1) it's not cheap, and 2) it's not quick (with the exception of blade sharpening, which they've always done for me in 10 minutes). I probably spent almost as much money on service as I spent to buy the mower in the first place. I'm not really surprised (it's an entry-level Husqvarna/B&S), but had I known this when I bought the mower, I probably would've spent more up front. You can also expect it to be 10-20 days before your equipment is done. This is a really popular place in the Spring when landscaping season picks up. However, it's not an issue if you're able to get ahold of another mower. read more

Had to take my mower back a few days after servicing for the same problem, runs then stops. 1st charge was $56, they blamed gelled gas but I have been using the same fuel out of the same container for all of my equipment and it still runs fine. They said they would give me a break on the cost and charged me $46 for the same job, leaving me with no fuel in the tank to test it before I left. Courtney said she would give me a better break but when I went to pick it up and mentioned that the girl at the counter only laughed and asked me to enter my pin# for payment. Brought my ride-on mower for service to them. It had been outside in the elements for at least 5 years without being serviced. I still used it. It ran, roughly, but I had not changed the oil, filters, etc. After Matthews Power Equipment serviced my mower, sharpened the blades, changed the filters, belts, etc., cleaned it up, it now runs better than ever! Very unfortunate experience at Matthews Power Equipment. Honda mower needed repair of transmission. Needing replacement. Following repair (1 week), we went to start it and after many tries, it failed to start and gas was coming out of muffler. Took the mower back in. After conversation with technician it was determined the needle in the carb was stuck. When my wife stopped to check on the mower that afternoon the technician was extremely rude and actually "accused" us of tipping the mower over. When we explained, this did not happen...he continued to say we were wrong. And even went so far as to sling the air filter across shop. He acted as though we had broken his lawn mower. We didn't care how it happened, we just wanted it fixed and were willing to pay, which we did. As a former small business owner I know that this is not the way you treat customers, especially repeat customers that constantly refer business. read more

I have a pretty dusty area in my back yard (between the shade trees, dogs and kids the grass is very thin with lots of open dirt). I keep the grass about 3" deep and have to cut it almost weekly so the mower gets a lot of use. This year, same as last year, I pulled out my mower, got half way through the yard and it died. I took it both times to Matthews Power Equipment located off Monroe Road near the intersection of 51. Both times the woman at the front desk was very friendly and professional for the intake and gave me an estimated 10 day turn around time. Six days later she called to tell me the mower was ready for pick up. Great communication! When I picked it up I found they had not only serviced the mower but also power washed it! It looked new! The mechanic came out, started it up and talked to me for a minute about what they found wrong, fixed or replaced. Total cost was about $75. He helped me load it into my car and, same as last year, suggested I use only non-ethanol gas, which I purchased on the way home! On 9/11/2014, I took my riding lawn more with a flat tire to be repair. I did called trying to get price for it. I was told that a tube will be $18.00 plus $ 7 or 8 to do it. But when I got to the site and met a gentleman who work there. I do not recall he mention his name. He told that I need a tube and he will charge.04 hour labor which is $30.00 plus $21.95 for tube. The job did not take more than 20 minutes. The $30.00 was for the removing the tire and replaced it back in place. Toooooomuch money. I felt like been rob with a gun in my face. He took advanced the opportunity of need it to do right way. I do not recommend this business to no one. read more

I took my Craftsman - Honda motor lawn mower in for a tune up, blade sharpening, rear wheel replacement and oil/filter change. The self propelled belts were also adjusted as well as the throttle/choke. Even though I had to wait for the new rear wheels to come in, it was well worth the wait. I have had this mower serviced by two other shops and they did nowhere near the quality of work that Karl Goble did. My blade was also bent and he found a used replacement and did not charge me anything for it. My recoil pull start was barely working and he suggested that I replace it with a new one. I did and it was well worth the reasonable $20 cost for a new one. My 10 year old mower now runs and looks great ( he cleaned up the exterior of my mower) and I owe it to the great service of Karl. I also received an itemized receipt that listed the costs of all the parts and the labor charges. That has never happened at the two other power equipment shops that I have previously used. I will definitely use Karl for all of my power equipment needs and I highly recommend that you do too! read more
