But walk through that door and its like the Tardis from Dr. Who. The store really opens up into multiple rooms each with their own treasures to be found. Then out back there is a garde. And green house. They have chili pepper plants the likes of which I don't think I will ever see again! I swear the jalapeno plant was nearly as tall as me. And that is not an exaggeration. It was massive. Like a spicy tree. It was seriously impressive. Anyhow, there was also a "volunteer" plant just outside the back door that had tiny red peppers on it. Nobody seemed to know the variety but said they were too too hot. Maybe Tobasco peppers they thought. I started talking to them about my own home garden and how I struggle with tomato and pepper blossoms not sticking around long enough to produce fruit. They told me about something called "Blossom Set." I would have bought some there but it was greater than 3 ounces and I had to fly home. What I did buy was a bottle of scuppernong juice. Funny name for a native grape with a delicious flavor. A little more tart than standard grapes. I had been wanting to try scuppernongs and that did the trick. My only regret here is that I don't live anywhere near Renfrow's and could not biy as much I really wanted to. If I was a local, this would likely me a regular stop on my weekend errands.

Until recently, it had been a more positive than negative experience as I have gotten to know many of the long-term employees and they are always helpful. Fast-forward to a recent experience in September that made me not want to go back to that store. I had gone there one evening to purchase a Champion walk behind blower that was on clearance. I had asked an employee if there was someone that could help me, and he said "I'll find someone" to help. After hearing a page on the overhead speakers TWO different times, no one had to come to unlock the item so I could purchase it. I walked up to the customer service counter, were an Assistant Manager named Dennis was standing at one of the terminals. I asked "is there anyone that can please help me? I have been waiting 20 minutes!" He seemed to be rather upset that I was taking him away from whatever he was doing to unlock the item I needed to purchase. As we were walking to the item, I said "you guys need to do something about the theft in this store as it is nearly impossible to shop here anymore". His rather sarcastic reply was "why don't you do something about it?" needless to say I was taken him back by this comment and was becoming beyond frustrated. When I told him that I have been waiting 20 minutes and I was not happy, he asked if I had a flat bed cart? I said "no could you help me find one?" to which he said "you can go find one". Again, I was rather taken back by this snarky attitude of his and I told him he was acting like an a$$hole, to which he replied, "I could say the same". Retail operations have no place for a person with that kind of attitude, especially as a Manager and when customers are waiting 20 minutes to get something while he just standing at the desk that evening. I vowed to be done shopping at this location and I have since gone to other nearby stores, as well as, telling friendes about my experiance. It is sad how one person can make or break your shopping experience, but in my opinion, Dennis, who is an Assitant Manager nonetheless, is the worst experience I've ever had at this store. He should be fired in my opinion as I don't want to see anyone else deal with his attitude and there are other stores near by. If I could, I would give the majority of other employees here five stars, if I had to give this Manager a rating it would be -5 stars.

I'm always so enthusiastic about coming here and I've been doing it for many, many years since the…read moremid-70's. It get's better every year and it's a great place to find affordable Christmas gifts for kids. The Staff here is always helpful and ready to assist with a smile. Today, when I walked in, I was greeted by two golden doodles in Christmas gear sitting by the fireplace. They have such a great variety of products year round. While prices here are not rock bottom, that is not their goal. They do not seek to be the lowest price ... like big box stores ... but rather they want to be the full service option. I started having a problem with the throttle control on the lawn vacuum engine. After a few phone calls to Home Depot and Agri-Fab I was referred to Faulk Brothers on Orr Rd, an AUTHORIZED Briggs and Stratton repair shop. A gentleman by the name of GERALD answered the phone. I explained to him that I recently purchased the machine and Agri-Fab referred me to Faulk Brothers for the repair. Before I could even get the words out of my mouth he said they ONLY REPAIR COMMERCIAL EQUIPMENT and referred me to another company, Lay of The Land. I called them. They wanted me to bring it in. I'm a partially disabled veteran and the machine weighs over 350 lbs. I called Home Depot back and explained my problem. I WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER! I told them I'd find a way to bring it back. Long story short, I wasn't A BIG LANDSCAPE COMPANY SO GERALD DIDN'T WANT TO BRING HIS LAZY BUTT OUT TO LOOK AT IT. I will say the next day he called AFTER Agri-Fab called him. He said he'd send someone out. I told him he must have lied to me the day before because I'm not a COMMERCIAL customer! Told him I'd figure something out and not to worry about it. To my surprise True Value said they had it in stock so I decided to head over and grab it. When I checked in on yelp at the store, I was surprised to see that I had a 10% off coupon. The woman at the register wasn't familiar with the discount, she said that she needed a code to enter in the system and there wasn't one. She called the owner over and he was also confused but honored the discount. You may not be so fortunate if you decide to go, because he said he may have set that up along time ago when he set up Yelp, and he probably needed to fix it. But I was happy to find the paint that I needed at a discount. I didn't take a lot of time to look around because I went for a specific purpose. But the store seems to be fully stocked.

I love that they preserve history in this area. It gives people like me an opportunity to visit and experience a little bit of Americana that would otherwise be lost. This shop has a lot going on. Not quite a one stop shop but pretty close. A lot of variety in this family owned shop. My mom and I bought some old fashioned hard candies. My grandpa was able to find a new handle for his old sledge hammer. We all got a 2025 calendar (yes, I know the year is almost over). It has some cool old timey recipes on each month. I look forward to trying some of them and continuing the historic experience from afar.
