This by far is the worst place I have dealt with for storage. For those of you that do not know the air conditioning has been out in half the building since May and the people that visit the units weekly and know about this have been given half off their monthly rent. When my rent was raised in June. I was there last week and the air is still out. My items were starting to mold and their is a water leak going on as well, as some items were wet. The manager wanted me to come and show him the mold. He stated heat and water do not cause mold. Also, in my last review, I complained because people who are living in the storage units and I felt unsafe. Well the problem is worse. They have the all living in the part of the building where the air is working (Thank God!) After punching in my code a young lady tried to enter the building with me when the doors opened. I actually had words with the woman and advised her she would need to enter her own code to enter the building. She was not happy! Then when I am leaving the unit, another woman approaches carrying groceries and stated she lived there also. This is a very unsafe environment, and management doesn't seem to care. Mistakenly signed a lease online thinking payment would be taken upon move-in like other facilities I have used. Immediately realized my mistake, and called to inquire about a refund. Response was a snicker and annoyed "well I guess I'll have to move you out now." Mind you I've never set foot on the premises. Seems to be a nickel and dime operation, will be advising all to stay away and look at other options. read more

Everything I had was stolen, except a few paint cans and and old filing cabinet. Everything from family furniture and artwork, of monetary and sentimental value, to my childhood scrapbooks - - the things I cared about too much to risk moving for a few years. A costly lesson learned - I now have three family photos. The facility has incredibly lax security protocols, few security cameras, and conveniently deletes footage after just a brief period of time. Data storage is CHEAP, so this has to be to hide the complicity of employees in thefts. Don't put anything in Extra Space, or any other storage, until you buy your lock, and do a search on YouTube for how to pick it. There will be at least one video. Look where the security cameras are, find out whether they work, and how long footage is kept. Maybe CMPD can tell you how many recent thefts have been reported. Even if you're moving away for a while, don't let them know that! Use a friend's local address, so they think you might be in anytime. Ideally, get that local friend to check on your unit periodically, make sure it hasn't been cleared out. (The lock will look undisturbed whether it has or not.) And keep photos of everything you put into storage, as you'll need it for your insurance claim, if you have a good homeowner's or renter's policy. read more

This initial start to this was good everyone was friendly and helpful. I've had my things at the facility for about a year so I never really had to deal with them with the exception of my rate increasing once. But moving out was a nightmare. I partially blame PODS but also the storage facility. I had a temporary PODS drop off to load my items from my storage for a cross country move. I'm facilitating all of this while half way across the country. I have the PODS delivered and get a call from the staff kind of angrily that there was no where for them to drop a POD and he had to leave. I advised her that it was for a move today and they were picking it right back up and she insisted there was no where in the whole property to load my PODS which I disagree with but as in 8 states away I can't argue. I was disappointed in the lack of empathy and compassion and her unwillingness to help with a solution. Now my stuff continues to stay there and they get paid while I need to work out the logistics. They are helpful when starting but when it's time to stop working with them they were not helpful. After this experience unlikely won't use the company. Had she been friendlier about the situation I would consider it, but the rudeness in such a delicate situation is why I won't recommend using them. read more

I have a storage unit with extra space storage, as soon as they found out I had cancer an couldn't move my stuff ,they went up on unit to 164.00 for a 10x15 .I explained my situation an they said sorry cost of living! Dont rent from them ,they definitely will go up on you as soon as possible! read more

SCAM ALERT! STAY AWAY! This facility is scamming people. I have a 10x15 unit here with a pole running down the middle of it, which takes up room, so its really not 10x15 space wise. Although I am being told the reason for rate increases is do to market value on 10x15 units. The rate increases at least 2x per year and they are averaging 50%. There are people working out of the facility, although the management claims they dont know anything about it. I was there during normal office hours and the lady was working out of her unit, I even asked her what she was doing? Her reply was working, she had the unit door open and had a desk set up with a computer. Although the management states there is no electricity in the units. Also, I was at my unit one day then all of a sudden the unit a couple spaces away from mine opened and a gentleman walked out. The man was yawning like he had just woke up. There are always rift raff around making it an unsafe place to visit even during business hours. All of my visits happened during normal office hours. But management knows nothing. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Very poorly ran and clearly a SCAM! read more

Clean, convenient, and everyone was courteous. The only thing I'd change is there's no way to open the door and keep it open if you're moving in and out. I understand why they don't for security reasons however. read more

No security for the building. If someone breaks in to the front access door they do not have an alarm system in place to notify the police nor to notify the company. Major concern and plan to move out of the facility ASAP. read more

Rented this place sight unseen from a different state.....big mistake. We accessed the unit on a Sunday afternoon. First of all, when we arrived at the building there was NO security gate. A little unusual for an industrial area. When we finally got into the building there was a strong smell of pot. Ok....but then there was a guy going in and out of the building ( he was not moving any items in and out of storage). I assume he worked there and was possibly survaling the property. He left and came back with food and continued to enter the building. I contacted the office the following Monday to let them know about the above. Ben said he would check into it.it turns out they have no security on the weekend so I can only assume that this guy didn't have anywhere else to go and eat his lunch on a hot day. The second time I moved stuff there was a guy loitering around the building. He asked if he could help but we declined, took a load to our house and came back. On return we noticed the guy passed out cold with a syringe in his hand. Fearing the worst my husband called 911. The guy managed to get up and ride off mumbling incoherently. Thank goodness he was ok. My last trip to remove items, the place had trash all around including popcorn and spaghetti in the loading area and smelled of urine. I felt so unsafe at this place I'm glad I only had to be there for 4 months. On the bright side Ben was super nice. read more

the good: brand new building and new units, very clean and no smells of ny kind or any bugs/insects. the bad: my unit was smaller 4x4.5 than advertised 5x5, the front door removes 4 inches and the back columns remove 6 inches. also they increase my rent from $25 to $55 in 2 years. another bad: the customer service once you become a member, it will not allow you to talk anyone live, only options is to pay or pay. You will need to call from a friends phone to talk someone live. read more

I had a wonderful experience getting a storage unit set up at The Extra Space Storage in South End. Bryan was very kind and patient answering my dozens of questions. I got a great rate and they were very upfront with what I could expect cost wise going forward. I've been to the facility several times since setting up and have always found it clean, well lit, and easy to access whenever I need to get in there. Extra Space Storage in the South End has been really great to work with. From my initial move-in, to ongoing support, they have been super professional to deal with. Their facility is the cleanest of any storage facility I've used and most units are easily accessible for loading and unloading. It is also climate controlled and neither too hot or cold during summer and winter months. Brian, the manager I deal with, has been especially helpful when rate increases occur. He always explains the current situation and ensures as a long time customer I will always be treated fairly and pay a fair market rate. I only wish other business were this honest and great to deal with. read more

I randomly received a notice that the rate is going up for my unit 15%. There's no explanation as to why and I've had my space for less than 4 months. I double-checked my lease and found this buried clause (which is certainly not something they highlight when they're leasing a unit): "All terms in this Agreement are SUBJECT TO CHANGE upon thirty (30) days written notice to Customer, including but not limited to, and without limitation, Monthly Rental Charges, late fees and other charges." So, AT ANY POINT, they can change their terms and the monthly rent. Yikes! Side note: I had a great experience initially. The customer service rep on duty was incredibly professional. She showed me their space, walked me through their rates, and reserved a unit for me. At that point, it was the best experience I'd ever had renting a storage unit. However, when it came time to move in my things, things were very different. All loading docks were blocked by trucks that weren't properly backed up to the loading docks. Management was queasy about sorting out what was happening so everyone could access their units. In the end, rather than having access to a loading dock near my rental unit, we ended up hauling everything through the entire facility to the back of the building. It took much longer than it should have. read more

The rep that I met with was very pleasant and professional. The facility is VERY clean, and security is definitely top-notch. One downside, I was taken back by the "insurance, lock, and administration fees" that they don't tell you about online that you HAVE to pay for. I received a pretty good rate online, but with those additions - ended up being more expensive than I planned for. read more

Great staff - very helpful and friendly. Suggest that ESS consider getting one cart with rails for things like boards or mattresses. We were able to use their truck to move a many items including large pieces that we could not have managed with our car. Overall a fine facility that we are very content with. read more
