I've had 8 moves over the past 35 yrs and I've never had a company be so rough and disrespectful with furniture. Items that have been kept in pristine condition now have scratches, gouges, chips and even the stairs were chunked up (two of the railing post corners were ruined). Add to that the bed literally fell apart the first night. I am attaching just SOME of the damage done but just know they made the move miserable and you'd be best picking another company. read more

We booked CityWide for packing and moving at the end of November. Overall they did a decent job. However, we paid nearly double what we were originally quoted which was very frustrating. None of the workers wore masks to protect from COVID. On top of that, several pieces of furniture were damaged (a dresser, bed, and 2 bar stools). They also put deep scratches in the wood floors in our brand new house. Due to craziness of the holidays, I have not been able to call the office and file a complaint, but I plan to call this week so we will see if they do anything to remedy this. read more

I called to get a quote from this place to move an upright piano and they quoted me $450. I said I would think about it and they said to call back if I was still interested. Owner's son Jason tried to intimidate me when I said I was not paying for extended smoke breaks, my house and furniture now smell like smoke. Wayne & Jeff were awesome but I do not recommend working with Jason. Jason kept trying to force me to sign for something that I did not agree on and charged me for time after the movers were done. Cathy is nice but Jason does not get a pass for being very rude and this is supposed to be a faith based company. read more

I would like to say I never give bad reviews. Ever- and this time I feel it's necessary to avoid someone else experiencing the same. I have moved probably 20-30 times in my life up and down the East Coast so I am very familiar in what a good mover is and what isn't. Citywide doesn't represent their slogan at all. Long story short the sales person Joel quoted me $1500 to pack and move a two bedroom one garage 8 miles down the road. I was charged $3200 with no concession from the owner sales person and my dispute was denied because I signed the paperwork Do not sign the paperwork after a move if you aren't pleased!!!! The owner was very rude in trying to appease my complaints. His son was apparently the one on the job that wouldn't wear a mask while loading my things. I complained he was replaced. Nepotism runs high here a father/son duo also helped move. Father was rude son tried to apologize. I was told the packers would have masks and gloves. Wasn't on the paperwork and they gave me an attitude when I asked. Same for movers - attitude after I asked for something to be moved in a room...even after I tipped and went to get waters from a gas station when asked. They messed up a tv console and dented my walls. New house brand new construction but I would rather them never step foot in my house again. I never write such a scathing review but highly advise against using this company for moving! read more

The quote process and communication with the staff was great. All employees are very courteous and work very fast. Our one serious complaint is that we asked and paid for soft wrapping for all furniture that was being shipped to Puerto Rico and did not get it. They half wrapped some stuff, but most was just loaded onto the loving container without more. As a result, some of our furniture was damaged. Also, beware, this company DOES NOT KEEP INVENTORY of what they pack and uses huge boxes where they pack everything in one area... Two companies I would have bet you a lot of money that would never get a good review form me 1) Time Warner Cable, 2) any moving company - at least I still have TWC to complain about. These guys did a great job from start to finish and I highly recommend them. I have used movers a few times in Charlotte, hopefully this is our last. Never had any awful experiences, but never a good one. Movers tend to try to upsell something when they show up - insurance or other items, not these guys. I have also always had something dinged up/broken in a move - nothing huge, but something gets a little damage and this time everything came through fine, including my doors and walls - which I really apprecaite. Scheduling was easy, you get assigned a sales person - when I moved 6 months ago the company I used recommended 3 guys, Citywide thought 2 would be plenty (2 is obviously less expensive than 3) - I asked them about it again and they said they were pretty sure that would be plenty based on what we have and they were correct. Citywide finished the moved in less time with 2 guys than the other company did with 3. I would have paid for 3 but they didn't want to oversell the job, I don't see that often. The day before the move they called to confirm, I think that is the day they run a portion of the bill on your credit card as well. The day of the move I got a call from the movers from my storage space 15 minutes before they were supposed to be there ready to go. They worked non-stop of 4 hours and asked me if it was ok to take a 5 minute break 2 hours and 45 minutes in, they obviously didn't have to ask to take a break, but I appreciate the mentality of getting it done. All of the moving companies I talked to charged a drive time charge equal to one hour of work, so consider that when looking at your budget. The lead mover for my job's name was Shawn, I'd recommend asking for him. read more

It is hard to pick how many stars for Citywide because some things were great and some horrible. So I picked 2 stars and here is the mixed review: Great Part: Not a thing was broken!! They didn't scratch my very expensive sectional. They didn't drop anything or lose anything. The three guys we had worked very hard and barely asked for anything. They were considerate and always asked where to put things and double-checked on instructions. They didn't complain and barely took a lunch. Just fantastic guys. We tipped them $50 a piece. Horrible Part: How does a $500 estimate get to be a $1200 move? Well the truck they decided to use (knowing full well we were moving TWO households into one) was too small and they had to make 2 trips to one of the households. We had to pay them by the hour and thought they would re-compensate us for part of the move since this was not our fault. They did not adjust the price for this and I was shocked. I still can't believe it but I am so happy in my new place I just decided we would just take this as a 'lesson learned'. But I wanted to post a review on Yelp so yall know about the bad estimating and bad customer service of Citywide Moving Systems. I had a massive armoire that was very challenging for my body builder buddy and I to get into the house and these guys moved it effortlessly and zero damage to the cabinet nor walls. I seriously would have put this at a 5 star review had it not been for a few things. Let me get one thing straight first. The guys that actually did the move were top notch. Friendly, helpful, hard working, etc. etc. The back office staff needs to pay a little bit more attention and provide bigger trucks. There in lies my issue, the entire move took about an hour extra becuase the truck wasn't their largest in their fleet, thus creating an extra round trip. I can't hold too much of grudge because once I brought the issue up the company did return an hour's worth of my money. Couple things to note about moving companies and this one in particular is that if it rains you still pay the time. Everything is hourly. This company unlike others only starts the clock once they get to the first destination, not once they leave their office. Some don't do that. The other good thing about this company is they sent 3 guys for the job which frees up one guy to load the truck while the other 2 go and get things. That seemed to help with the timing. This company is amazing. I've never hired a moving company before and after a lot of research I chose Citywide. From my initial phone call I was impressed. My scheduler Kathy was so friendly and understanding. She answered all of my questions and really put me at ease. When Jermaine & Corey arrived on moving day they immediately began loading and didn't stop until the job was done. They were friendly, professional, and best of all funny. I wasn't moving a lot of furniture and only moved 4 miles but felt like I was their most important customer. They made sure everything was where I wanted it and were finished in less than 2 hours. Did an excellent job moving us from our old house to storage then from storage to our new home. Worked with no wasted time which is often not the case with hourly paid contractors. I have moved many times both within the military and out. Corporate moves and personal moves. I have rarely found a group of moving personnel like the ones employed by Citywide Moving. They were professional both in packing and moving and were cheerful throughout the process. I had some pretty heavy items coming down a rounded 17 step staircase. They moved them with ease. If you need a mover call Joel and Rhonda. They will set you up. This was a superb move. read more

I was visiting my daughter in Charlotte. She called this company to move her to her new apartment. They were there for an hour and had everything loaded to move except a couple of pieces. They didn't come back inside for a few minutes so she went to see what they were doing. They were taking a smoke break which lasted 20-30 minutes. (I don't know why they needed a smoke break after 1 hour). They finally came back to load the last couple of items. We were ready to go and thought they would follow us. Instead, they told her they were going to take a 30 minute lunch break and would knock 30 minutes off their time.They showed up 1 1/2 hours later. They said they got lost. They still only deducted 1/2 hour from their time. Between their smoke break and lunch break, they charged her for 1 1/2 hrs. that they weren't doing anything. Attempts to contact the company and confront the issue were met with no response. I would not recommend this company... read more

Unfortunately things did not go well with this company, I contacted CityWide Moving Systems through their website to get a quote for our move from Matthews to Waxhaw. I was initially pleased with the customer service from Kathy as she walked me through an estimate by phone. I had two other companies come to the house to get additional quotes for service. I decided to go with Citywide Moving Systems because they were recommended by a friend. We set our moving date for February 24th. We then found out that our closing date would be moved up, so I called Kathy back on February 1st. I told her we needed to change the moving date to February 17th, and wondered if they could accommodate us. She said she would check to see if she had the crew and trucks available. She came back on the phone and told me that we would be able to get the last crew available on that date, so we booked it. Fast forward a week. My husband went to get the boxes they offered us and to confirm all of the details. He said that the woman at the front desk was rude and seemed bothered by his inquiry, and told him that they are the ones who call the customer to confirm. He said that since he was there, he just wanted to double check. It's a good thing he did because they had the original move date on their calendar! He explained that I had called and changed the date, but they said they could not accommodate us because they did not have any more crews. I called later that day to speak to Kathy, and I was appalled with the lack of simple customer service. She never took responsibility for her error. She just kept saying that the paperwork we sent in had February 24th as the date of the move. The only "paperwork" we sent in was a request for an intitial quote! In the end, I really only wanted for her to acknowledge that the error was on the side of the company and do what she could to make the situation work for us. I will say that when my husband was in the office, HE made arrangements to secure a truck and movers for a different date, but it was not idea for us. But again, that was his effort, not the company's. I was so frustrated with Kathy that I did ask to speak to her supervisor. She said he was out of the office and that she would have him call me. I would have thought that an upset customer who no longer had a scheduled moving crew would warrant an immediate call back, but that did not happen. I ended up calling the office back several hours later to again be told that the supervisor wasn't in the office (but he was expected back after 4:00 ~ it was around 4:15). Kathy said that he could call me back on Monday. I told her that I needed to speak to him today as I had to make a decision about our move. I did receive a voice message (the call did not show up on my phone~ just the voice message) from the supervisor, Mr. Matthews, who apparantly had no information on my situation and said that I could call him on Monday. NO apologies from anyone at the company. NO effort to make their mistake right. Needless to say, they lost my business. I am hopeful that I will be writing an excellent review of the other moving company who was able to accommodate us, at the very last minute, for our upcoming move. read more

This is my 1st experience working with a moving company and these guys made it a good one. They were friendly and engaging. They were knowledgeable about what they doing and even threw a few moving tips my way. If i ever move again I would definitely use this company and request the same movers. Users beware!! Initially they were friendly and helpful. However, they put s 26 inch-- 1/4 inch wide scratch on a table. I was assured that the company's furniture restorer would fix and I'd get it back in 7-10 days. 4 days later they had no knowledge of the whereabouts of my table. At 7 days they had found it but were unsure when it would be ready as they were behind on repairs. 3 weeks later they had done nothing with it and were unable to say when it would be repaired. @ 5 weeks I was told I could go to a specific consignment store near their office and pick out another table. @ 7 weeks I demanded the table be brought to me immediately. If I could give these folks less than one star, I would do it. I would echo most of what other critical reviewers have said, and not do business with these folks. My first contact was Joel. He asked me a lot of questions related to my move, including move date(Jan. 30, 2018), square footage, questions about types of furniture, etc. He gave me a price of $580, based on it taking four hours. (We were only moving from one apartment to another within the same complex.) He said, too, that if it took less time, I would actually get a refund. Period. That was it. For clarification purposes, I asked him if that meant if it took longer, that would be the most I would pay, and he said yes, but that if it took less time, I would pay less. He said yes. He seemed like such a nice, good old country boy that I took him at his word. Then, on the day before the move, Kathy called to get my payment information, and she mentioned something about a travel charge which was the same amount as the hourly rate Joel had given me($145). I told her that Joel had not said anything about that to me, and that he had given me a maximum charge of $580, which he indicated was firm unless it took less time. She said no moving company could provide a set price, that it was prohibited. I told her that the movers we used when first moving to Charlotte did that. She then said that it was because they were interstate movers(?). I asked her to have Joel to call me back. Joel called me back later in the day and re-assured me that the price he had given me was firm, and could only change in the event it came down if the move took less time than he had anticipated. I said so in other words, it can't be more than that amount, but it could be less? He said I was correct. He also said something to the effect of, "You'll be fine." When the movers arrived(late), one guy said something about the travel charge of $145, but I figured I was still okay based on both my conversations with Joel. So I signed a bunch of stuff believing, as Joel had promised, that I was going to be "fine." Wrong. Joel had promised me, too, that if his guys slacked off any, I should call him. On several occasions, when I didn't see them return for awhile after taking out a load, I would find an excuse to go outside only to find them in the back of the truck smoking. Look, if I had to do what they do, I would take probably more breaks, but hey, that's why I wasn't doing it myself. There were several things they said they had to take apart before they could move them, such as a custom-made leather recliner and a desk, but I told them to forget it because I had to be out of the one apartment and into the other before 6 p.m.; I knew that my son would help move them. (He and another guy moved both without taking them apart. They had already planned to help me move some other stuff we had set aside once the movers were finished.) When all was said and done, and I was presented with the papers to sign, the total came to $290 more. When I was asked to sign, I refused to. That was after I had the guy to get Joel on the phone. This time, Joel was completely different. He denied ever having told me any of what he had promised. He said they don't give firm prices(even though one of the guys who moved us asked just before whether I had a firm price!). When I checked my bank account two days later, I saw that my debit card had been charged for the additional $290. (I also found out after the fact that Citywide supposedly offers senior discounts, but they never offered me one. And as I am several years beyond 65, and not particularly endowed with features that make me look younger, I wonder why someone didn't ask or even mention that to me.) Two suggestions for those intending to move in the future: Always get a firm price, in writing, with all promises written down and signed. And secondly, never use a credit or debit card when paying. Just indicate that you will be paying with a check AFTER your move, and hold your ground. (I used Two Men and a Truck when we moved to Charlotte two years ago, and we did just that. They did a great job, so great that I tipped each of the "Two Men" $200.) (Post-posting: I don't know why my review identifies me as being in San Francisco; never been there, and don't intend to. My first impression of the guys was great. However, after dealing with them and getting ripped off on the bill, I just had to write a review up. They moved a total of 15 items. They were done with all but 2 of those items in the first hour. So tell me then how they can charge me a whopping $660.00!?!! Well, let me tell you that after a 30 minute smoking break and an hour lunch and then they get lost on the way to my apartment because they didn't want to follow me but instead take a lunch break! Seriously, they needed a smoking break and then a lunch break to boot after just an hour and 15 minutes of work. Incredibly disrespectful. Plus they damaged my couch because they did not wrap everything like they claimed. I have sent emails and not heard anything back of course from corporate. Not surprising... they would rather rip customers off instead of keeping life long repeat customers. Steer clear of this company. They will rip you off blind! I didn't want a confrontation in person so just paid the money which I regret afterwards. Ugh... lesson learned... will never use them again and will certainly spread the word that this company is bad news! One persons word of mouth equals a loss in revenue. So wake up Citywide Movers and learn to treat your customers better! I should have read all the reviews prior to using this company. Such an awful and expensive lesson learned. read more

Deciding last minute to save our backs and hire movers, we searched around for the best deal, with the highest customer satisfaction scores we could find. We could not have been more pleased. On the business side: Phone courtesy and professionalism is important to me, and Citywide delivered! Very pleasant, very reasonable, and upfront with covering all of my expectations of the move. 5 Stars. On the labor side: Mike, Adam, and Drew were phenomenal! They moved all of our stuff out of a storage unit and two second floor bedrooms and into a single story home in 4 hours (with a stop for lunch). I would have still been working until 8pm and my back would have never forgiven me. At one point one of the guys was moving a chest-of-drawers and I looked at my gf and said, "I didn't know you emptied that." Her reply, "I didn't." The furniture certainly didn't take near the beating I gave it on the last move. 5 Stars. In short, I will definitely be hiring these folks again on the next move! As a company I would highly recommend them. We have used them twice. The two experiences with them are very different though. The coordinator Kathy is very helpful and accommodating. However ask about the crew they are sending out. If she says the name Tim promptly request no demand someone else. Tim arrived at my home already with a bad attitude and angry. He said it was because and I quote " the company took my semi away because I made two trips to Michigan" hmm whatever Tim. He also stated they had given him the crappy truck today. So he was very belligerent and pretty much screamed at me the whole time saying he couldn't take this he couldn't take that he even said he could not take my bed?? It was a regular queen sized bed. Even his partner Donald had had enough of his ugliness and started taking the bed on his own. Now here is my most angriest moment with Tim I was unhooking my surround sound on my own so it would be protected and so I would know how to hook it back up. I got called away and came back 5 seconds later and Tim had ripped and yanked out ALL of the cords. Didn't even disconnect the power first! Now my receiver is blown and will not work. Thanks Tim! I asked him why he did that that I was doing it the proper way he just screamed we're not even supposed to take that stuff!!!! So I'm thinking why the hell did you rip it apart then? The second thing that I was livid about was he kept loading things into this giant box and wheeling it into my new home and shouted there you go ladies put this stuff away. Now remember we have used them before and none of this happened before so I knew this wasn't the way this company operates. I unloaded that big box three times. Hell I should have just rented a truck and done it on my own!! So basically what I am telling you is ask if Tim is one of the crew members coming and if he is refuse. Demand someone else! He is awful!! The first time we used this company easy as pie we just relaxed while they did their job. Not so with Tim not to mention he will refuse to move things that he has no reason to deny. The other crew was awesome and broke nothing. Tim ruined my surround sound the receiver is blown. Even his partner Donald ( who could not have been nicer) was getting mad at Tim and when Tim said he couldn't take my bed Donald said we do this all the time and started taking things on his own. I've had a professional out here to look at my surround sound and he said it was most definitely from the abuse by Tim that blew it. You don't disconnect anything by ripping and pulling wires out! every right minded individual knows that! I have four witnesses to what Tim did throughout the day. Based on the previous review, and in checking BBB, they had only 2 recent complaints. However going with this company was the WRONG choice. In booking my date, I specifically asked the lady, Kathy, what she thought my move would take and she told me it was a small job and with 2 men should be about 3 hours. We pay by the hour (every 15minutes) and they showed up late to start with but charged me from the time they were suppose to be there (it's about 15minutes overcharge). I would be okay with this if everything else went as planned, but nothing did. They took 6 1/2 hours!! And only 15minutes into the move, the one mover said "sorry we're so slow today". I didn't think anything of it but they doubled the time they quoted me and being a single mom on a budget, that is a big deal. The one guy took about 4 smoking breaks and their total time was over doubled...6 1/2 hours! When I told Kathy, she was condescending and said "oh no darling, I wouldn't have said that, i was just giving an example of how the hourly cost is done". It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand how hourly rates are calculated. Then the one guy insisted on taking my great aunt's mirror (which i was given upon her death last year). I told the guy that it's really important to me and I can take it, but he insisted and said that he has all the stuff so it'll be safe. So i let them...another bad decision. They put it in a box with nothing on the bottom!! and the end of the frame broke off. To make matters worse, the basic insurance is only $0.60 per pound but they refuse to pay. They said I can take it to a repair shop, but the mirror is 40pounds and huge and I shouldn't be inconvenienced to now have to take it someone PLUS isn't that was the insurance is for?! And the other 2 items which seriously only weight about 1 pound (english bone china cup and napkin ring), they also refuse to pay because they didn't pack that box. However I explained that the paperwork doesn't say coverage only applies if they pack it AND I watched the mover literally drop my box 6inches form the other boxes during the move even with the huge red and white fragile sicker on it. I mean, seriously it's $0.60 for these other 2 items...and they refuse to pay. It's not the money for me, it's the principle and obviously this company has no integrity. If you don't care about your things getting mishandled and broken...and that they won't abide by the insurance provided, and hugely understated pricing, then this is your company to go with. read more

While moving a neighbor of mine, a Citywide truck drove into my front yard leaving a deep and rather long trench. I called the company and the driver denied driving in my yard (I watched him do it). I was told the owner would call me to discuss. I never heard a word from Citywide. The owner clearly does not take responsibility for his employees actions. The owner of the company and his employees do not care to do the right thing. If you are considering using a moving company - pass on Citywide Moving Systems. read more

I used Citywide at the end of June. My move was scheduled to include our apartment and two large storage units. We rented a 17 foot U Haul to move some of our belongings and Citywide arrived with a 14 foot box truck to complete the move. Seriously, a 14 foot truck to move an apartment and TWO large storage units? This seems to be a common theme. I spoke with Joel at Citywide and was told that he would have sent two trucks due to the size of the move. He was going to look into the matter and call me back. I'm still waiting for the call. Due to a late closing on our new house, the crew had to wait for the house keys, If they would have had a larger truck to begin with, this wait would have been minimal. Terry and his crew were able to get a larger truck after the 14 footer was unloaded. The only bright spot of my move was Terry and his awesome crew. They did terrific job even though the move cost way to much. Be sure to clarify what size truck they will be sending before you agree to use Citywide. read more
