I want to put zero stars but it won't let me!! In the past year, our unit has been flooded three times. I think we have been very patient, paying our bill every month and thinking they would fix their roof! I called customer service and they just don't care. The employee at the desk did talk to the manager to see about at the very least refunding this month as we are moving out today. Customer service told me they wouldn't refund anything as it's against policy. Wondering how a bad roof that leaks every time it rains fits into that policy. I have rented storage from Carlsbad Public Storage on Tyler Street since 2010. Today I added on another unit and Gabby & Bernice helped me figure out the best option to suit my needs. The customer service at this location is fantastic! It is nice to recognize the same people behind the desk all these years. I never wait very long eve. when it's busy. They are super organized. The manager and the employees are always efficient, thorough, and informative of all the options. There is a lot more involved to moving and storage than people think of until they are in the middle of it...Gabby and Bernice made it easier for me today. This location is safe, well lit, clean and the employees are always ready to help. I have moved all over this country and have never had a better storage experience than the public storage in Carlsbad just off the village main drag on Tyler. read more

I was robbed while moving my items out of here and they did absolutely nothing about it. They make you pay extra for their monthly insurance (a fact they only tell you after you decide to go with them) for cases like this but bc my storage door was open while we were moving, apparently that meant the insurance won't cover you bc it isn't locked. Outrageous, right?! Even though the gates were broken every single day and anyone could get through. Doesn't sound like high security to me. More like ghetto. Anyone who knows this fact can prey on any unsuspecting movers. Which makes me suspect that the perpetrator was someone who worked there. I did file a police report and I was hoping they could view the surveillance footage, but ironically it was such shitty quality that it was useless!! The thing that was most valuable to me that was irreplaceable was stolen and that was my grandmother's jewelry box. I'll never get that back and it still angers me. So, do yourself a favor and store your valuables elsewhere with a company who actually cares and uses the money to invest in higher quality security to protect your assets. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible service. Trying to find an employee on site is impossible. If you have more money than God and need to spend it, this place is perfect! Price hikes are rediculous. I've gone there three times with an SUV full of boxes and all of the carts were chained up. I went to the front office to have the employee unlock the cart and nobody was there. I tried calling the office and nobody answered. Ran into other customers on the property who has the same frustration. Finally had to go home WITH THE BOXES becuse there was no way I was going to be able to carry them to my unit. I contacted the regional manager and he couldn't care less that I couldn't get a cart and that no employees were available. Would love to change storage companies but we all know what a pain in the rear that is. read more

This place is OUTRAGEOUS prices with the slowest service. You have to type your code in every 50 feet in this facility. Just to visit it one time it'll take you at least 20 minutes. The staff is paid hourly therefore they have no motive at all. I will never consider this place. And I don't recommend you do either. read more

If you're looking to store your belongings at a location where you know they will be safe and secure for let's say a few months even though you missed a few payments pay somewhere else. The workers at this location lie they have no compassion and really don't give a fuck about your belongings.. if a manager says to pay a price by the end of the month. I WOULD EXPECT TO HAVE THE FULL MONTH MEANING THE LAST DAY. USUALLY 28 in Feb 31 other months.. to sell my daughter's belongings and mine as a mother and being pregnant outrageous me I've lost everything now because of this public storage.. and they still want me to pay the balance after selling my stuff. Do not buy public storage anywhere do not buy in Carlsbad and these workers need to get fired as soon as possible because I am suing. And for whoever did take my stuff they're getting sued as well.. Tammy said end of the month I went to pay today the 24th there's still four days of this month left. I repeat do not buy here do not this place will be gone. I'll make sure. There should really be no stars for Public Storage but that's not an option. We've been a customer for 6 years. Our bill is payed automatically through the bank on a monthly basis, so we're never..EVER late. Today we received a call saying that our rent was raised $90/month to $376. The going rate for the same exact unit goes for $250..over $30 more then what we were paying. When my husband called customer service they refused to give us the STANDARD $250 rate and said raising the rent is standard practice. Why the heck would ANY company EVER raise the rate on a good customer, let alone, expect them to pay over $130 more then what their standard rate is. POOR customer service. Will be moving storage units this week. DO NOT get your storage unit here!!!!! We'll go somewhere where they appreciate good customers! read more

Dishonest business practice. I moved-in in January, and in August they raised my rent. Now I understand why they kept the term month-to-month. So be warned that rent WILL go up after you've moved in! This is called low-ball. They don't handle billing at the site, and they had me call their corporate number. Called them twice and talked to two customer service agents. Both flat out refused to hear my situation, and pointed to the contract where it says month-to-month so they can raise my rent any time as long as they send me a 30 day notice. I told them I never got the 30 day notice, and we verified my address, but still they refused to reconsider even though I never saw the notice. This is called hard-ball. If you are going there, be sure to ask when they'll increase your rent. They are not a reputable business as they seem to be. ===================================================== Update 1/14/2018 I moved-in Jan 2013 because the rent was $109. I moved-out Jan 2018 because the rent was $195. Let the renter beware: the longer you stay there, the more rent you'll be charged. read more

I have been with this location and my storage unit for 4 years, I never intended to have my things in storage for 4 years but that is just what happens. This location has been better than the previous location, a different company in Oceanside. It seems to be an industry standard to increase your rent every 6 months or so, as often as possible so no matter what rent you start with you can be sure it will be double if you are in for any length of time. My only complaint about this place is how they are ready to auction off all your belongings if you are as much as 30 days late on your rent. They are going to hit you with a late fee is it really necessary to threaten you with losing all your things as well. I don't understand this kid of harassment. read more

As others have stated....beware of the rate differences. Office personnel are rude and try to get you to buy extra products because they get commissions. Hard to get to, totally inconvenient security processes. Shop around for something betterif.you have the time. I needed something quickly so I didn't know there were different prices. JR and team are awesome. They are always willing to help! They make the added stress of moving in and out of storage less painful. JR has always gone above and beyond to answer any questions or assist when needed. When I'm in town I am always here organizing or downsizing my possessions. It's nice to see friendly faces and to know my belongings are being stored in a clean, secure and safe place. Although, sometimes having to enter your access code a minimum of three times to gain entry to the gates, inside doors and elevator can be a bit annoying, but at least it makes me feel secure. If you plan on being there longer than 6 to 12 months make sure you check to see if your rate will go up. Especially, if you get a great internet rate upfront. read more

The facility was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. However, there is one area where they definitely need to look into improving. My monthly payments were setup through their auto pay system and deducted at the 1st of every month. I paid my February dues and moved my belongings out of the unit 2 days later. I expected some type of reimbursement for the remaining 25 days of the month that my unit would be vacant. After speaking to the office, I was told that since I was setup through auto pay, I would not receive anything back. I wish that information would've been relayed to me from the start. I also sent an email request for someone to contact me regarding this issue, but I still have not heard back. read more

Used this place for over 2 years, steadily went downhill while the rental fee kept increasing. Was robbed in July. Received a call that my unit was "unsecured". Immediately went to check and found that the lock was in a different position. The door could be rolled up 2 feet. Opened the unit and found multiple boxes missing and other boxes had been searched. Noted that multiple items taken could not have been removed through a 2 foot opening. I then told management that I had been robbed. There were new customers in the office and I was told that "this has never happened, etc." As soon as the customers left, manager changed her tune and tried to persuade me that I didn't need to call the police, but could file a report online as "someone else had done." Also, it was my fault because I hadn't properly secured my unit. I'm pretty sure I did. My daughter was with me there one week earlier and she always checked that the lock was secure. On to what the police were told/not told: The officer who took the report said he would drop off a DVD for security camera footage. When I spoke with him a day later he said that they told him there was none. The detective assigned to the case told me that unlike other storage facilities she has had to investigate, they told her that they don't walk thru the building checking that units are properly locked, the only walk through they do is to pick up trash. We were trying to get an idea of when the unit was breached and assumed that it would have been the day before I got the call. When she asked about security footage, they told her only the lobby was on film. she took that to mean the office. I told her that there were screens behind the customer service desk with a lot more than the lobby. When she questioned them again, they said they meant all the public lobbies. I checked and there are 6 or 8 different screens. She dropped off a thumb drive for them to copy the security footage. One week later she tells me that she called to ask about the copy and they said the manager told them they couldn't take the time to do that and they subsequently erased the tapes in question. Knowing that the police wanted the copies, they erased the tapes? Large items removed through an opening too small? Yeah, right. I've removed the remaining items and won't be back. P.S. On a trip back to the place, the "security" gate was wide open for anyone to drive in or out, no code needed. read more

This location, and J.R. in particular, are the superstars of storage. The location is tucked away near Carlsbad Palomar airport in a industrial park. It's an enormous facility that can even accommodate an 18-wheeler. The place is meticulously clean an exceptionally well run. J.R. helped me at every point from move in to move out. He went out of his way to suit the customer and was there for me when I needed it most. After I sold my home I had way more stuff than I realized. At one point near closing time I needed another unit to fit boxes and furniture. J.R. worked past the normal hours to get a unit ready and rented. He always remembered me and kept up with the progress of my transition to a new home. Thanks for the exceptional service. Kudos to Josh as well. read more

We were told we could get our money back if we cancelled before the time period that we were to start paying for it. We asked this question because my husband is in the military and sometimes plans do not work out for obvious reasons. I cancelled 2 days before and they said they are still charging us for the month.
