My daughter and I came in with our first load of items, where our reservation was confirmed. We had spoken in advance so we knew about the lock fee (which is yours to keep for future use BTW). Admittedly, the insurance ($11) was a bit of a surprise...but it is planned to be a short rental so not a huge deal. The people at the counter were nice and friendly, and the lady behind the counter walked us to our reserved unit to make sure it met our needs. It did, so we walked back and completed the process. We used the gate access code to move our van in for unloading, and the same code to access the entry doors. We grabbed two carts and unload the van quickly. On our second trip, two others were unloading and we had to wait 25 minutes before a cart was freed up. I would suggest management invest in a few more carts - allows more people to load and unload faster, making it a better experience for all. So far so good... read more

I've been waiting to post this until we move out of this god forsaken place, but after yesterday I want to leave my review now. For those not familiar, Boston is largely on a 9/1 moving cycle. With the number of college students in our town, in addition to the fact that most Boston apartments run on this 9/1 cycle, we knew the storage facility would be busy in the weeks surrounding 9/1. My partner and I decided to splurge on this unit to slowly move our belongings in our current apartment into the storage unit over the course of a month. We have opposite work schedules and a very small apartment, so we relied on this slow moving process to suit our schedules and needs. About one week into our tenancy at this Public Storage, the two elevators on site were deemed inoperable due to being out of code with the city of Boston. We received no warning or notification of this change, and being on the second floor, this threw a significant wrench into our plans. Douglas is the District Manager and is truly one of the most useless points of contact we have ever had. He doesn't return phone calls and takes 0 accountability for this huge issue. He blamed the lag time in securing elevator operators to fix the elevator, not acknowledging that it was his facility that allowed the elevators to go out of code in the first place. You'd think that with the moving dates coming up, they'd increase the number of dollies and moving assistance to at least offset this enormous inconvenience, but nope! And the other worker Ed, not only talks at a volume SO loud, he is incredibly rude and unhelpful. He referred to my partner and I (30 year old women) as "girls" and listens to his political news station on blast as he lurks throughout the facility. Also, no one answers the phone at this facility. They require you to leave a voicemail and then they'll call you back when it's convenient for them. We were promised that the elevators would be fixed on Friday so we get our box truck and fill it with our heaviest items we have. Lo and behold, we show up yesterday and the elevators are still out of service. Doug called us the day prior to confirm that the elevators would be fixed and we updated our plans and moved around our schedules to make this happen and still, we spent four hours carting our things to the stairwell, carrying them up two flights of stairs, then carting them to our unit. This has been a miserable experience and I feel both defeated and so angry. Where is the accountability? Their general customer service is a hell loop and this company just genuinely doesn't care about their customers. I'll leave it at this: for us, putting hundreds of dollars into a storage unit was a big deal. This was our splurge, this was our plan for moving. Many of us don't have the privilege of just pivoting and hiring movers to help us. It was just my partner and me lugging our heaviest items up those stairs and this morning we are sore and covered in bruises. I'm just grateful we're two able bodied women who can navigate stairs in the first place. If you can't go up stairs, there is literally no way to access your unit. Do not rent with Public Storage. My left big toe can do a better job managing this facility than both Doug and Ed combined. Save yourself the hellish experience and rent elsewhere. read more

No one is ever there to help you even during hours they are supposed to be open. Calling customer service is absolutely impossible to reach a human. You can leave multiple messages and no one calls you back. I left multiple messages trying to cancel my unit after moving out. No one confirmed. Finally log into my account and it looks like I've been paying for storage for a few months now that I thought was cancelled. Now I need to figure out how to get refunded for the months since vacating the unit. Absolute trash. Go somewhere else. read more

SEVEN years ago I tried moving to Boston but was unsuccessful at finding an apartment so I left two designer couches, an antique desk, all my clothes, my antique bed and shoes and my mother's jewelry here. I very much regret this decision and urge you not to trust anyone here. Last month I encountered financial hardship and was late with my rent. I specifically called "Susan" who chats me up on the phone and I asked her when my things were due to go into the auction status. She told me not to worry about it. We chatted last week on Monday July 21st and Susan refused to offer me the date of the auction. Meanwhile I paid a little bit every day towards my storage fees then on Monday (yesterday) I was going to pay off my remaining balance only to find out they emptied out my locker without telling me or giving me a warning. I received blank postcards telling me to pay my balance but no auction date. Emails with no auction date and calls with no auction date. They violated our contract and sold off all my belongings and my mother's emerald ring for ZERO dollars. This past Monday Susan told me the owner John will give me 48 hours to fly from Chicago to Boston to pick up my things. I cried on the phone to Susan then I called corporate. Later in the day Susan admitted that my belongings were gone. I left messages yesterday and John the owner or manager called me and said if I fly in tomorrow to Boston and pay the remaining balance that I can have all my possessions back including a passport that was there. Then he called up Alejandro and Alejandro said my belongings were gone and John refused to give me the name of the vendor. I will need to visit Boston this weekend and file a police report for breach of contract. I am legally allowed to know when an auction takes place and they intentionally mislead me and pawned off my belongings. Do not trust these people. I'm also contacting the Attorney General office in Boston. Please take my review seriously and if you are a lawyer and you think you can win this case from break of contract please contact me immediately. read more

He than called me multiple times in row ignoring my voice mail.When i picked up the phone He accused me of leaving a item behind and than made mulitaple threats of charging me rent and refusing to close my account. He was supposed to close the account a week ago he waited till the end of the month. He demanded I drop what i was doing and run over and get the item. I tried to tell him i didn't anything behind he got mad and hung up and charged me. And than when i tried to call them nobody picks up the phone . I have been overwhelmed by this company through and through. I wish I'd gotten a storage unit using another company. They don't prorate so I ended up paying an additional two months- even though the staff at the front desk said they would use the rate for the prorate on the second month and that I would get a refund once I checked out. There is absolutely someone living in one of the units, and once the doors close they close. You better hope you don't have a car unloading (or loading) at exactly 9 or you'll have to find another way home, pray your car doesn't get towed, stuff stolen, and come back the next morning at 6 to see. Get more pushcarts! I pulled up with a truck-load of things only to find out that that the TWO pushcarts for the entire 4 floor storage warehouse. The staff told me that someone had stolen the other ones and that they haven't replaced them. Do you like your carefully packaged and sorted things ruined by a roof so poorly maintained that during any rain or melting snow event you will have Niagara Falls in your storage unit....then definitely rent on the fourth floor! Do you enjoy having your rent increased 20 percent within months of agreeing to a so called 'contract'? This is YOUR PLACE then! How much do you enjoy paying $40.00 dollar late fees, threats of auction within 7 days of being late? Then this is the most awesomest storage place ever! There have been so many bad reviews they had a name change so people couldn't find their real reviews on line. As others have also said, never any carts around, gate always not working, limited hours of staff, when you can find them. And enough staff attitude (if you DARE expect a DRY storage area) to make an afternoon at the DMV look like a picnic! Not so you say? How could it be you say? Their advertised hours are a lie - they say they're open from 6am-9pm but the gate doesn't ever seem to work and they can only be open during business hours. AND even if you come during their business hours, they might not answer their phones and close early, as they did to me! ***Renters BEWARE!*** If you make a reservation for a storage unit, you really DON'T have a confirmed reservation because the Brighton Public Storage facility WILL NOT HONOR IT if someone gets there first to rent it. So, even though I had a rental scheduled and called them directly, they would not guarantee I would have a unit (in fact the manager, Jackson, told me that very likely they wouldn't have a unit based on the fact he only had a few left and others would get there before me with credit card in hand). I told him that I would make a payment over the phone. He would not do that; must pay for the rental in person. And he would not "hold" the unit, even though I had a reservation and called him to let him know that I would be there. No customer "service" here! So upsetting (their national customer service reps are terrible - that's another story). I will NEVER EVER use Public Storage as an option again. I rented the same size unit for less money at UHAUL. Made a payment via their website and confirmed that my reservation would be honored on the date I reserved it for, no matter what. EXTREMELY happy with UHAUL (and they have a $0.00 first month offer too). Public Storage should learn from the way UHAUL handles customer's reservations - they take credit cards to reserve the unit... Imagine THAT! read more

If I could give this a 0 star I would. So here's my experience. I found rat poop covering my unit and my stuff. The rats chewed thru my scratching post. They shredded thru the fabric. My mattress topper has holes all over it. I have already lost $600 in damages. I saw 4 rats run around in my storage unit under my clothes that were chewed thru. I screamed so loud I'm sure they heard in the office but they didn't care. I had went down to show the desk attendant the problem and had complained. Then he told me to buy rat repellent and peppermint oil. I am not sure why I am paying for the maintenance of the building. I pay to rent the storage unit it is there problem. Then, nothing happened it got worse. I called the property manager, about a week later. I had stopped by to grab a suitcase for my flight. He had told me if it was a real problem, then I should have stayed. I couldn't miss my flight. I am not sure why I have to go out of my way, and miss my flight to fix THEIR issue. The desk attendant never even noted or told his boss. Then I showed the property manager my unit, he told me my sealed medicine caused them, and that I can't have dish washer cleaned Tupperware or recycled plastic bottles. While I was showing him the unit, he recorded me on his personal device with out letting me know, or asking for consent. Then I talked to the district manager, and still they refused to fix my issue, three weeks long of complaining. The staff is extremely rude, and unaccommodating. I cannot believe the way they behave that they can still hold a job. I was talking and the staff would literally walk away from me. They refused to help me, and they refused to deal with a problem, and refused to do their job. I still know words cannot describe their rude attitude towards me. The small fees they don't say add up! I don't suggest this building for storage. You waste your money. Rat infestation is bad. You will be refused to be heard, and over all treated horrible. Save yourself the time, money, and energy, and DO NOT rent from public storage. If I could give this place 0 stars, then I would. First of all, there are tons of hidden fees to buy a lock for the first month, so expect to pay an extra 50$ on top of the monthly payment. Next, they charged me an extra month even though I vacated my locker AND removed the lock three days before the next billing cycle. Even though they have validated the locker being vacated through VIDEO FOOTAGE, they have refused to take off the payment. Needless to say, their customer service is absolute trash. They always say they will call back but never do. Online contact forms take weeks to reply. This dispute is almost impossible to settle. Upon visiting to try and settle it in person, my friend was called an idiot and was threatened to have the police called on him. read more

Last winter, an ice damn resulted in flooding on the top floor, and probably below. I saw a mouse yesterday. And of course, there was evidence of their presence in my unit. I asked other customers if their units had similar problems, and they said yes. If you look closely at the 'garage doors' of each unit, you'll see poop. Rent has gone up $20 in last four years. I did some research online before selecting Public Storage for a place to put most of my stuff for a few months before I move to a larger apartment. I thought this was one of the lower-priced options, but they nickel-and-dime you. They force you to buy a $28 lock (this is not mentioned ANYWHERE online) and you must purchase insurance for your belongings while they are at PS. So a $97/month unit is really $108, plus the $28 lock and some other fees so I owed $150 before moving my stuff in. Security is good though, you have to enter your access code to get in the gate, again to get into the door, then a third time to leave. Dollies available for use was a plus as well. I will keep my stuff here since it's only a few months and a few more extra dollars, but beware. read more

We needed to get a large amount of furniture and assorted crap out of the mother in laws garage and it sure as hell wasn't all fitting in our 450 square foot apartment. Checked around, did some yelping, and decided to go the unyelped route. This place has locations all over the country and discounts the first month rent. Prices are consistent with other storage places in the area, though they do make you purchase one of their locks and get insurance. read more

I got a call from Public Storage as I was setting up the rental online from a very nice and friendly staff person. He walked me through the sign up process. The process was painless and safety precautions observed. Workers were friendly and helpful.

Negative: They will increase your rental rate after a few months (to even higher than what's advertised online at the same time). By increasing your rate, they either make more money off of you or you leave and they make money with the hidden fees they charge by bringing on a new customer at a lower rental rate - it's a win-win for them. They can increase your rate without your consent since there's no contract timeline in the agreement. They said they gave me a 30-day notice via mail (they did not provide any notice via e-mail), but I never received a letter. They also increased my rate by 60-75% after a few months, so it wasn't a small bump. Pros: The storage spaces are in good shape. I'm moving my stuff over to one of their competitors and will never recommend Public Storage again, in any city. read more

i just started a new job and get paid bi-monthly. Because of this i fall 3 days after the scheduled due date and grace period. And instead of working with a returning customer, they stuck to their corporate policies! So i now have to pay an extra $20 each month. Whatever happened to customer service???!!! Review is specifically for this location in Allston (based on my personal experience) - and level of service there is absolutely awful : 1) it's OVERPRICED (after initial month or two) and 2) it's HIGHLY INSECURE (after reported breach into my unit they did absolutely nothing whatsoever to fix the hole in a wire mesh used in those storage units instead of ceiling); when I moved out more than a month later the hole was still there. This place is terrible! The customer service is bad the staff don't have a clue about products, they speak to you from a script they learned and they lie to you to get you to come in or buy a unit and then they back talk saying they never said that or no it's never like that, whatever they can to not cover what they originally told you when you opened the storage unit. The bathrooms are disgusting. It doesn't feel safe at night bad lighting outside and if the lights go on after you get out of the elevator it's a miracle cause someone could be standing in that dark just outside the elevator waiting to stab you and if the gate outside is locked it's a miracle because usually some idiot drives into it but I swear the gate had been broken for an entire year -not safe. They run scams not service. You have to buy a lock from them. To get any service you have to sign up for auto withdrawal which takes money out early and if you don't sign up they send you an email 15 days into the month saying your unit needs to be paid for. The first month is a total scam go ahead move in mid month guess what you only actually get the rest of that month free. I also think someone is living inside the building and it's not a security guard. Once they called me blaming my wife for leaving a mattress at the building. I told them it wasn't her, they threatened to charge me for it even though it wasn't her. They never apologized for blaming her or the threats made. Then last week I get a letter from them stating that they are raising the rate of my storage unit almost $30 more. WTF is that shit?? You do nothing and treat us like crap and don't clean your place or bathrooms, it's unsafe and your staff is never helpful, What am I paying more for, so I actually can get some real customer service and feel safe? Prices and units are fine. However, if you want to avoid a customer service nightmare, seek storage elsewhere. My boyfriend and I rented a unit for one month, and were told all we needed to do was vacate the unit by the 29th day and take the lock with us. We did so, that morning. Apparently we were supposed to come check in with the front desk upon move out (we were never informed of this), so they tried to charge us for another month, even though we were clearly moved out and apparently they have someone making rounds that is supposed to note when units are vacated. Boyfriend called and had to speak to several different people at different offices, but eventually got the charge taken off. They told us we might get a bill or two, but just to ignore them. We received a few, and ignored them. Now, however, my boyfriend is getting notices from a debt collector asking to settle. Seriously? All of this for a unit that was clearly vacated after one month? I agree with other reviewers that the customer service representatives seem uninformed and will say anything just to get you into a unit. Hopefully there are better options for storage in the area. read more

If you enjoy being berated and disrespected by workers who clearly hate you simply for existing, this is the storage facility for you! I've used this facility for 18 months and until recently had had a decent experience, but in the last month have had two separate encounters that leave me wondering how they have any customers left. On the first occasion Courtney came barreling out of the office door yelling at my daughter aggressively (my daughter made the EGREGIOUS mistake of leaving an empty moving box next to 4 others filled with trash, next to a large trash container that UNDER PENALTY OF LAW customers cannot use (but others clearly had))! Ok fine, we get it! (but no, Courtney couldn't stop reaming us out even well after my daughter had retrieved the lone empty box). Yikes. Today, a gentleman named Kerry was primed for a fight from the moment I walked in (to move my things out and cancel my storage). I was simply trying to get him to clarify that I would have to pay for 2 weeks I would not be using (per their policies on monthly fees), but he refused to acknowledge that fact, and just kept saying (extremely rudely and aggressively) "there's no pro-rating!" as if I were trying to cut a deal (which I was not). I pointed out he was getting upset when I simply wanted clarification; he snapped, "No I'm not, you are!" It was all ridiculous and totally unprofessional. i took advantage of a $1 for your first month special and secured a huge storage space on the ground floor at this lot. Public Storage in Brighton had better hours than other lots in the area, although regular prices are a little higher compared to other storage companies. You are required to purchase a lock from them. I think you also have to purchase insurance, but because of the pending hurricane (I rented a space just before Hurricane Irene), they allowed me not to purchase it. Customer service is hassle-free. I rented out a space within 10 minutes. Additionally, you don't have to do anything when you are all done with the space, except let them know you have emptied the area. read more

What a fantastic experience! I was desperate for storage space after a miscommunication with moving, and I made an online reservation the night before needing to move stuff in. Nick (I believe that was his name, great guy) was there right when they opened, called me to make an appointment, and had me in and out in 30 minutes. He was extremely thorough with the unit size and leasing contract, and answered all of my questions. The space feels very safe and secure, and there were plenty of trolleys for loading and unloading. If I was able to give negative stars, I would. Having been in the moving business before, I have some experience around storage facilities and customer service. Where to start... 1. Upon registering and meeting the employee at the front desk, he continued to push selling boxes and insurance to me- This was after he and another employee attempted to talk behind my back as to who was going to "get me"... There has to be some commission for this- but all it does is create a terrible customer experience. 2. There are MICE, and lots of them. 3. Throughout the months I rented, I was called on multiple occasions and outright accused of leaving trash and boxes in the hallways. I'm sorry, but I legitimately saw the lady who did this, and you would too if you checked your cameras. Calling up a paying customer and falsely accusing them is disgraceful. 4. I scheduled my move out, successfully moved out, and am still being charged for the month after I moved out. I called the location office and the front desk (who has a great track record from the above statements..) tells me the lock is still on the unit and I'll be paying until the lock is removed. Well, I'm not even in the united states right now and I explain this to him, asking if there's a solution to resolve this scenario. His answer, "There isn't". What! All of this could have been resolved if the guy was just a half decent human being... never again. read more

For over 3 years, I've been a loyal Public Storage customer. I moved to Brighton Public Storage (address: 156 Lincoln Street Brighton, MA 02135) since 2014 and I remained even after they raised prices for all storage units. However, I'd not recommend this particular Public Storage to my family members and friends because of several uncaring employees especially Jason. Jason treated me in a rude and inconsiderate way even though I've been a customer for several years. This week, I had a cart full of luggages and I was waiting for Lyft or Uber to come to the parking lot. I told Jason I'd return the cart inside the building (in order to prevent someone from stealing or taking a cart outside of Public Storage's property) after I'm done with unloading all my stuff into a car trunk. However, Jason shook his head and he said "no" without explaining why. His body gestures exhibited signs of indifference and impoliteness. He did not even try to listen to me and he made me look like someone who will steal a cart or carelessly leave it stranded on the street. I felt mistreated by his judgmental assumptions and such attitude is contrary to the definition of "good customer service" . I went inside the office and I told Jason it's not ok to judge people without listening to their explanations. Instead of apologizing, he became rebellious and refused to admit his fault. After another employee said I'm a customer since he has known me for a while and tried to resolve this unpleasant situation, Jason continued to ignore me with a stubborn face and sat still. When the business hour ended, he quickly left the office and drove away like he doesn't care about anything. I'm extremely disappointed by what I've experienced and I believe no customer should be treated like that. The other co-worker was a nice guy and he told Jason that he shouldn't act in a mean way. A simple sentence of "I'm sorry" or "oh my bad for misjudging you" could resolve the whole conflict. This particular incident is probably the most unpleasant experience I won't forget. I once worked as a cashier and a librarian and I always reminded myself to greet customers and treat them with friendliness. After all, that's what human resource department expects all employees to act positively as representatives of a company. I'm going to take this case seriously and contact the storage manager. If the manager doesn't properly apologize, I'll report them to the customer service center. And I'll ask my family members and friends to consider switching to a different storage company. I've been a long-term customer with Brighton Public Storage and I'm unsatisfied about their overall customer service. I will no longer continue my business with them. read more
