I've been storing at the facility on Butler Road for years. It's awful and I've only been sticking…read morewith it because it would have been too much of a hassle to move all my stuff. My storage unit has had water leaks and mouse infestations. In both cases, when I complained to management they did nothing. Fortunately I stored my things in plastic bins so the mouse poop, dead mouse corpses and water did not reach my stuff, but still it is disgusting. The on-site management used to be this nice guy who was helpful, but he's gone. Now they often have a bratty young woman who has actually hung up on me when I called about the elevators. The latest is that both elevators have been out of service repeatedly over recent months and the management could give no timeline for when they'd be repaired. My unit is on the third floor so that meant I couldn't remove anything heavy. That is the last straw. I have finally had it, and a friend and I are going to move my stuff out next month.

After going through a pretty traumatic break up and having to move unexpectedly, I immediately…read morecontacted Bookstore Movers through Yelp. I had had a great experience with them just last year when I last moved and knew they'd be able to get the job done again. My project was immediately responded to and they were able to help me move two weeks later on their soonest available date. The three movers, Pat, Renaldo, and Kevin were incredible. Communication leading up to the move and theday of was great. They were able to move all my large furniture within 2 hours. Everything was wrapped carefully and efficiently. They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. Pricing was reasonable yet again and came out to about $500 (excluding tip) for the truck fee and moving of 16 large items. Thank you Bookstore Movers for helping me when I needed it most!

We were disappointed with our recent experience with Bookstore Movers. The crew was polite, but the…read moremove felt much slower and less efficient than it should have been. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

Unfortunately, our…read morecontractor went under and we had to pick up all the pieces, which means we had our unit for nearly 4 years! We signed a paper contract when they dropped off the unit, although I don't really remember signing a contract. But then 3.5 years later, they sent us a digital contract and asked us to sign it. But because I don't remember the paper contract, I refused to sign the digital contract. Even though we were paying every month on time for the last four years, they refused to give us one more month with the unit because we refused to sign the contract. Additionally, after returning the unit, my credit card was charged two months in a row, and I had to call the company to get a refund on my credit card. I would recommend the business because the delivery and pickup of the unit was simple. But everything else involved with renting this unit, I don't recommend.

From the start, he was straightforward and easy to talk to. What really stood out was his honesty, I was initially quoted for a few services that, after he inspected the car more closely, he told me I didn't actually need. He adjusted the price without me even asking. That kind of integrity is rare. The detail itself was top notch. My car looked refreshed inside and out, and you could tell he takes pride in his work. It didn't feel rushed or transactional, it felt like someone who genuinely cares about doing the job right and treating people fairly. If you're looking for quality work and a business owner who operates with transparency, I'd absolutely recommend Danny and his team at Revive Auto Vault - I will be going back again.

What had been a perfectly pleasant, if inconveniently-located and overpriced storage experience was…read moremade pretty rotten when we finally tried to move out. The woman at the desk when we tried to do this was sarcastic, rude, and dishonest repeatedly during our short interaction with her. She first told us that there was a trash can where we could dispose of some stuff we no longer needed; this is not true, there is no trash at the storage facility, as she eventually revealed. (Why not? I find that baffling.) She first told us that she'd just moved to the area, so she couldn't provide us any advice about where in the vicinity of the storage facility we might find a dumpster we could use. (We lucked out with the Citgo next door.) Five minutes later, when we asked her if she'd just moved to the area, she said no, she'd been here a long time. She saw the scattered styrofoam peanuts in the unit once we'd cleared out and said "you can't do that. You have to clean it up." We said we'd be happy to, but they didn't have any place to throw them away (nor did we have a broom). She insisted that we had to do it anyway and she would give us a broom. But as we were walking toward the office, we chanced upon a maintenance employee at the storage facility, sweeping up with a broom. At that point, the desk lady realized she was busted, and that we knew she was trying to make us do something that other employees at the storage facility are already paid to do. She shrugged and sent us on our way. Not everything that was awful about this experience was that woman's fault. It's simply bizarre that they don't have a place for people to throw things away at this storage facility. But through her campaign of dishonesty and sarcasm, she managed to make the experience significantly more unpleasant. Sullen and non-responsive would have been a major improvement. Self-storage, like moving, might be one of those things where the standard level of competence is so low that you must accept this crap. But I hope not. [UPDATE: I realized that I forgot to add that throughout all our interactions with her, desk lady was also nastily sarcastic. For example, while walking toward the elevators to go inspect the unit, the lady saw a few styrofoam peanuts that had spilled on the floor and profusely "thanked" us for leaving those on the floor for her. Just tell your customers what you are going to demand from them. Don't be nasty.]

Grasshopper Movers is HANDS DOWN the best moving company I've worked with. Maybe because they are local and small, or maybe because they're just committed to providing the best service possible. EVERY single person I dealt with at Grasshopper has been customer focused and professional. They are clearly a company that is focused on meeting customer needs versus up-selling or lengthening the process. I would have even considered myself a not ideal client in that I contacted Grasshopper last minute and used them for storage far longer than anticipated AND asked for delivery and received it within 2 days of the request (meaning they didn't get to milk more money out of us just because they could.). DC is filled with lots of competition and these folks are just old fashioned in their approach - they have pride in their work. Finally, they also had the best price based on my extensive research (which I do professionally). If only they provided services outside of moving and storage - housekeeping? mobile phone service? Wifi & cable TV? OK, now I jest, but you get my point. Call them and sleep well. (FYI: I rarely write these because I seem to not have time, but I was motivated because of how awesome they all were to me - it's the least I could do.)
