The food was delicious with big portions. Outside deck eating was great atmosphere and service was efficient and friendly!

We were in VT for the VT 100 and found this for dinner. Very good choice! The ribs were delicious, very tender, and not too much sauce. There were plenty of gluten-free options for my sister. She really enjoyed the Ahi Tuna Salad. My nephew had the empanada special (and shared some of my ribs) and loved it all. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Great time!

This place was next door to the Alton Inn we were staying at, and due to the convienence we dropped in the first night. First, the decor is somewhat of a modern chic, very clean, and cozy. Our server was outstanding and friendly. The food was delicious - he had the Chicken Caesar Salad which he raved about, and I had the Ahi Tuna which was the perfect portion, great dressing, and the Tuna was perfect. We liked it SO much we came back the following night! He liked his dish so much, he ordered the exact same thing! I had the prime rib melt (with salad instead of fries). I will say - ordering the side salad was a great idea - the roasted chickpeas really made it more than just a side salad and the meals were both outstanding. That was a Tuesday - and they had live music outside. It sounded great from where we were inside... just too hot to eat out there! We will certainly return next time we are in Vermont!

Good atmosphere walking distance from the state park. Live entertainment, friendly staff and good food. The chicken schnitzel was well worth any wait time and you can enjoy the live music or a drink at the bar while you wait for a table. The outside seating was a bunch of picnic tables protected from the from the weather and that's where the live musician was set up.

Service was quick and our waitress was really friendly. We always had full waters and anything extra we needed. We went at 5pm and it was pretty empty. By the time we left it was poppin and live music was about to start. If we weren't so tired we definitely would have stayed. I ordered the salmon, which was priced at $23. Seemed cheap for salmon. It was a little over cooked and dry, but I drenched it in their maple BBQ sauce, which was pretty good. I swapped the veggies for fries. The curly fries were actually pretty yummy.

Are you doing outdoor winter seating?

We do not have outdoor winter seating. So sorry. Our inside dining is very sparse and totally spaced out.

About how many local draft beers on tap?

We have 12 lines. Usually 8-10 are local.

What happened to the specials menu? I was there a fee weeks ago and there was only the regular menu.

We have specials that change nightly. Soups. Appetizers. Entrees. Drinks.… Read more

River Roost is just a brewing facility with a tasting room, so there is no food provided or for sale. However, the place is across the parking lot from Big Fatty's Barbecue for some amazing, out of this world barbecue, Mac & Cheese, and the like. And you can bring it here to munch out while savoring the many beers on draft. And since it's not a restaurants, Fido is welcome. The owner was the attendant on that day and he was quite affable and also knew his beers like the back of his hand. I tried a "Mas Verde" IPA and it was absolutely delicious. Overall a superb time with wonderful people and great beer and superb food from across the street.... The only warning about the area is the parking situation. As the area (which used to be a blighted warehouse and industrial area) has become gentrified and dotted with apartments, the nearby Northern Stage Theatre, and numerous restaurants, parking has become an issue and customers should either arrive early or realize they may have to park several blocks away. But that only shows just how popular this area has become and part of it is River Roost's doing. Great place!!!!!

Luckily, we didn't have reservations on a busy Friday night and scored a seat downstairs near the fireplace. Parking was a bit tight, but we managed to find a spot close by. The interior was beautifully decorated with string lights and barn wood beams, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our waitress was very kind and clearly tried her best to accommodate the entire front of the restaurant on her own - for her first evening on the job, she did a great job. We both enjoyed the specials - salmon with broccoli and rice pilaf, plus I had a delicious beet salad. I enjoyed a refreshing raspberry mocktail, while my friend had THE RUBY SLIPPER--Absolut Ruby Red, elderflower liqueur, grapefruit juice, raspberry puree, and a sugar rim. We waited a bit for our check since I was in a rush to leave to take antihistamines; unfortunately, I discovered there was mustard in the salmon sauce, which I'm allergic to. I should have asked before ordering, but I only realized after my symptoms started following my last bite. Overall, it's a cozy, quaint place with limited parking, and reservations are recommended for a smoother experience.

Live music on certain nights, but not the two times we went. We tend to have dinner early though. Starter salads and soups were delicious and homemade. I had a Spanish onion soup on one night and a caprese salad variation another night (fresh mozzarella and summer tomatoes with a basil aioli)! Mains were equally delicious - herb wrapped tenderloin cooked to rare perfection, Carlos Chicken (a brined half chicken then coated with Cajun seasoning and deep fried). We have also had the pork loin and another chicken dish that had a creamy, sublime sauce. Definitely indulge in the bread basket and desserts; all of which are made by Heidi, one of the several family members that have been running the Skunk since the mid-80s. From-scratch delicious food, really lovely garden seating, and great cocktails! And last but not least, really friendly, attentive and professional wait staff. All the reasons why locals come often and vacationers come back year after year!

The hostess was incredibly personable and sweet. I'd had a crap day and really just wanted a beer. It was 5 minutes to close. I figured it wasn't going to happen, but I figured I'd look at their draft menu for the next day and get an idea of what I'd want to eat when I come back. Not only did they take great care of me and get me a MUCH needed beer, but when I came back to eat the next day it got even better! I couldn't decide which beer I wanted. The girl was SO nice and gave me half of each. Good call, because I definitely liked one more than the other! Now HERE is the BEST PART: the worthy burger. Sweet Jesus. I heard angels. Seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had. Ever. The bun was perfect and THOSE PICKLES! The cheese was perfectly melted. Just the right amount of secret sauce. Did I mention the pickles were amazing? I also ordered truffle fries with Parmesan and a kid size order of the Mac and cheese. Because real cheese. They weren't bad. The truffle fries were on the milder side, but tasty. Maybe a little soft. Pro tip: get the pesto aoli to dip! I like homemade Mac and cheese and I hardly ate more than a few bites. I had heard great things but eh. Maybe I was just in love with the burger! I didn't get a picture.
