I stopped here for dinner while in my travels in Rhode Island, and just wanted to give my take on it. As a lover of pizza, I was willing to give it a shot when I saw this was close to my hotel where I was staying. I went inside and the server behind the bar, Dylon, gave me a warm greeting. He gave me a recommendation to try, and I went with his idea, The Conrad. The pizza was cooked very well, it had a nice crisp to the crust. And all the ingredients were portioned thoroughly. Dropping my rating from 4 to 2. I don't know what happened tonight but we got a simple pepperoni pizza but it was more like a grease cake. None of the toppings stayed on, the cheese just fell off as you picked it up and the breading had the density of a roof shingle. Really bad pizza tonight way too much grease. These pizzas are so skimpy! You can eat three slices, and you are still hungry. The pizzas are just dough and sauce with practically no cheese. The photos of the pizzas on the website and menu are very misleading. Paying almost $30 for each pizza and still being hungry is not good. How can a pizza restaurant make a pizza with just red sauce, thin dough, and a little sprinkle of cheese? They should close up shop if this is how they intend to treat their customers. We had to get takeout on our way home because we were still hungry after eating there and paying over $100 for the bill and tip (not the waiter's fault). We will never eat there again. read more

Wow, wow, wow...simply the best, better than all the rest (in the area). Providence Coal Fired Pizza is up there with the likes of New Haven quality pizza. We tried a selection of their pies and my favorite was The Conrad with onions, sausage, roasted peppers, rosemary, mozzarella and pecorino. This pizza should be called the flavor bomb and I can't wait to go back to enjoy it again. The margarita and pepperoni pizza were equally exceptional. The atmosphere is casual and expansive with plenty of seating and room. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding offerings. In the mood to try something new we decided to try a coal fired pizza. We opted for the Pesto Chicken pizza and it was absolutely amazing! The crust was awesome and cooked to perfection in their huge coal fired oven. The pesto was light, and not overpowering as some can be. The chicken and prosciutto ham were delicious together. The plum tomatoes tasted so ripe and flavorful, they were the perfect thing to go with this pizza. The mozzarella and Parmesan cheese finished off this amazing pie to make it pizza perfection! This is our second visit to PCFP and we continue to be very happy with it. Our server was friendly and fast, the arugula salad was fantastic and big enough to share. We had the four cheese pizza and the meat lovers pizza shared between 3 hungry travelers and we ate it all. A young female and an older gentlemen waited on both are tables and they were extremely polite and kind. I was thrilled to be back in Providence almost 25 years after I did an internship there (wow, do I feel...wise and accomplished, and not at all old). I attended a work-related dinner at this place and was excited because I had been promised vegan-friendly pizza and a good beer selection. The actual experience was sub-par. We waited a painstakingly long time to get a round of water, and the first round was the only round. The waitstaff never came around with refills. When we ordered beverages, the waitperson was clearly not a beer enthusiast. There were two beers on the menu that weren't labeled as IPAs. For those of you who know me, the only beer style I am not partial to is IPA. They told me that the one beer without a descriptive label was "definitely not an IPA," so I and one of my colleagues (also not a fan of IPAs) ordered it on faith. Spoiler alert: it was an IPA (blech). When I told the waitperson that it was an IPA, they assured me that they would keep that in mind for next time (?!). The vegan pizza option was also a mirage--vegan pizza at this joint=pizza without cheese. One of my vegan colleagues did order a lovely concoction with roasted peppers, onions, mushrooms, arugula, and balsamic reduction--the restaurant should put that in the menu at a decent price so vegan patrons don't feel like we are deviants when we order a pizza with no cheese. The food itself was actually very good, albeit overpriced. The damper on this party was the truly terrible service. Everything took ages. We asked for our check a full 45 minutes before we were delivered our exit pass. And, this being our first (and only) time at this place, our waitperson allowed us to order a ridiculous amount of food. The pizzas are enough for 1 mildly food-deprived person or 2 relatively food-secure individuals. Our waitperson allowed our party of 10 to order 8 pizzas and 2 salads. The manager had to be brought in to figure out how to fit all of the pies on the surface area of our table, and it was only then that we realized we had ordered way too much food. We took the equivalent of 2 pizzas home (breakfast, anyone?). All in all, the experience was not great, even if the food was delicious. Think twice before booking an event here! read more

The pizza game in RI is strong. Providence Coal Fired is definitely a contender. Their crust is really good, it almost has a focaccia-like spongy element to it, but is also has a crispy chew when you bite into it. I got the Margherita and the Bianca pizza (a white pizza with arugula, ricotta, lemon dressing, and prosciutto). The crust is nice and thin and they use high-quality ingredients. The sauce in the Margherita is a little on the sweeter side, but not bad in anyway. The Bianca was a little bland to be honest. It needed some more flavor, like more garlic and/or more lemon. We also got their wings, which are really different and nice. There's only one flavor option, and they're covered in caramelized onions. read more

We stopped for lunch because we love wood/coal fired pizza and were craving a hot lunch. We ordered the Conrad pizza which was plenty to split between two people. The pizza was fantastic and really hot the spot. The restaurant has a full-service bar and many local beers on draft or in a bottle/can. We saved room for desert and enjoyed an order of cannolis, which were really good. Street parking in the area is very limited but there is a private lot right next to the restaurant and costs $10 the day we went. The parking situation is the only drawback to the restaurant but it's not on them as they don't own the lot. All in all I recommend Providence Coal-fired pizza. The complimentary valet is a game changer on a busy night. We tried to find parking on our own on a Friday night for our 7pm reservation, and it was impossible. They have one man handling all the cars so we had to wait for him to come back from the lot to take our car. Inside, we told the hostesses we were waiting for another couple to arrive and they allowed us to wait at the table for them. I asked for a low table and I received one right next to the window, which was away from all the loud people in the middle of the restaurant. My main reasoning for going in on November 16 was for the Thanksgiving Pizza. I've never tried their version, which included diced sweet potatoes, as opposed to Fellini's who uses mashed white potatoes. Other reviewers warned to make a reservation on weekend nights, but I still saw some tables when we entered. It's a large restaurant with high tops and low tables. When our friends arrived, the server came over. Super friendly and quick with our orders. We ordered the Baked Goat Cheese appetizer, which came with slices of flat bread. The cheese and flat bread were delicious! We ordered two pizzas for the table and they were relatively quick to arrive. The pizzas come in one size, and one is enough for two people. They have a large fat crust, with a very flat middle. I wouldn't call it thin crust, since the pizza was more floppy than firm. Although I prefer firm thin crust, the pizza was still good! I loved the flavors of the pizza dough and the Thanksgiving toppings. The only problem was the disappearance of the sweet potatoes. I'm assuming as the first night, they weren't used to the order and forgot to add any. The weirdest part was when we were done eating, and the waitress asked if we wanted dessert, our friend looked through the window and noted that both our cars were outside with the valet. I felt rushed, as if I couldn't relax and talk after eating, and I was indirectly being asked to leave. The waitress said we could stay. She said the valet usually knows when you're leaving and gets the cars ready. We skipped dessert due to the valet and paid. We talked to the valet man and he said he was watching us through the window and saw that we were done. Totally not creepy at all. Overall, good pizza and I would go back again.
