The best bite was the Concord Grape Italian Ice. The food wasn't bad obviously but also wouldn't go out of the way to return. The fries were crispy but had a seasoning on them that won't be for everyone. The celery aioli was different, it was really good and fresh. The pizza was good but more crunchy and hard than golden with crispy edges. The salad was good but also a little too fishy. My complaints are things I believe could have been issues in just the specific day we went and may not be an everyday issue. I would suggest going if you're in the area or want some good treats and good beer. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to get to visit. read more

Got the Buffalo stix to start, great flavor, cheese pull and some spice but for the price I wish we had at least 4. Coming from New York, my standards for pizza are pretty high, and basically just expect any other states pizza to be disappointing. But I'm happy to admit that I was proven wrong! I found out about this place because of Grateful Dead event. I came for the Dead, I stayed for the pizza. I love everything about Pizza Marvin. Food - Delicious Pizzas are huge with fresh flavors and toppings Caesar salad, not your typical, but that's what I love about it. The garlic stays with you for hours, so don't order this on a first date. Drinks - a great variety of mixed and beers. Ice cream - they are always weird flavors like blueberry with corn or waffles and Taylor ham. Although I said weird somehow the flavors always are amazing! Considered one of the best pizza spots in Providence, I recently got to try out Pizza Marvin while visiting Rhode Island. I can't judge the ambiance as the place was absolutely buzzing on a Saturday night with people packed in shoulder to shoulder while stopping in to grab a takeout order. We went with the large cheese pizza. Upon first looks, the pie is very attractive and somewhat artisanal, which elevated my hopes for a positive pizza experience. Sadly, the bottom of the pizza was overdone and lots of bites we had came with an excessively burnt taste that really detracted from the experience. The cheese and sauce were decent quality ingredients, but lacked the zest and pop you get with the better pizzas that I am spoiled with in the NJ/NY/PA areas. A family member that had eaten Pizza Marvin previously commented that it usually tastes better and isn't as burnt on the bottom. Seeing pictures of pizzas others have posted in reviews online, it seems I'm not alone among Pizza Marvin diners that have received a burnt pizza. Perhaps the kitchen dropped the ball a bit since it was so busy, but a good pizzeria never should have let a customer leave with a burnt pizza. All things considered, I'd hesitate to return to Pizza Marvin in the future and they wouldn't make my list of Providence pizza spots that I'd recommend to others. read more

There are some places I like to hold off on reviewing until after I've gone a couple times- this is one of them. Pizza can be one of those things that battles consistency and also, your hunger for them just might be insanely high one day making any average slice taste amazing.. So, Pizza Marvin. There are a couple strong opinions I want to get out in the open. 1. Their red sauce is second to none. Absolutely delicious. 2. Pricing is quite steep. $24+ for a normal pizza and up to like.. $28 for one with a couple toppings.. Really? I have to agree with the super high price here with other reviewers. Unless Pizza marvin can confirm, I don't think they're using house milled flour, local farm to table ingredients or anything else that's very special to drive the price to this point. With that said, I'm an avid pizza maker. I have a few ovens, one wood fired, one electric, and one gas. I make my own sourdough pizza, my own detroit pizza, neapolitan, NY style and others in between. Suffice to say I don't go out for pizza often. I think Pizza marvin is worth going to. If it's a treat, and you can get past the sticker shock, I'm pretty confident you'll enjoy their pizza. I will say, the Marg AF could have used significantly more sauce dollops. It was pretty dry. However, the North Provolone I had on my first visit was top tier. I'd coin their pizza somewhere between New haven a'pizza and NY style. Good, flavorful char, enough bite to the crust but not so much that it gets laborious to chew. It's enjoyable and I wouldn't hesitate to go back- it's a once every couple months thing for me to go out for pizza. This is also a nice place if you enjoy eating outside, plenty of outdoor seating, their indoor space is pretty cool too, little bit of a retro vibe but more or less what you'd expect in a pizza joint. Service is as expected for carryout/counter service. You're not being waited on here. read more

I was excited to try Pizza Marvin after hearing so much buzz about it. We got lucky and it was a beautiful night for their patio. We went on a Saturday and were able to share a table with a smaller party which worked out fine. there are also some seats inside, but the patio is definitely where there is more seating. All the counter service employees were super friendly and the food came out quickly. I rushed to order and didn't even realize they had slices, next time I'd probably give those a try, For pizza we got the Rhoni Island which was delicious. Love the addition of the honey for a sweet and salty combo. We started with the bitter greens salad which was refreshing and simple. I tried out their version of the Aperol Spritz the Ocean Spritz, it was tasty but super sweet. For dessert we had to try out their softserve. Overall I really enjoyed my visit to Pizza Marvin, and it totally lives up to the hype. The weenie fries were delicious but neither of us cared too much for the celery aioli they came with. The taco wings were tasty and we both enjoyed those as well. For our pizza we tried the North Provolone. I liked the flavor and texture of the crust a lot! The sauce was also flavorful and the toppings were nice. Overall it's a solid pizza and great if you prefer a less floppy bottom crust. This one held up really well. Most of the seating is arranged along a high top counter looking out toward the windows. There are a couple small high top tables. All the chairs are backless stools. If you need back support or want to hang your coat anywhere, you're out of luck here. read more

Overall an enjoyable experience! The details could use some tending to, but there's nothing that would stop me from giving it another go. The weenie fries came out as a generous portion and, though the crazy bread had promise, it was very dense and tasted of sour, undercooked dough. For the main event, we ordered a house cheese and roni island. The cheese one came out looking good but the roni island was clearly in burnt territory. Now don't get me wrong, I'm down with some leopard spotting on the styles that make room for this, but the char on this crust and some of the pepperoni was aggressive. No New Haven Pizza that I've enjoyed at the big names has ever been this dark. There was quite a bit of flour left on the underside of the pizza as well. Plus, there wasn't much moisture left in the raw tomato sauce so each bite was on the drier side. The flavor of the flour did come through along with some pleasant (if somewhat dry) chew. I liked the pepperoni that was a bit on the spicier side though I think the quality of that and the cheeses could have been better. The honey and cherry pepper distribution felt kind of haphazard. Still, some enjoyable pizza that I'd love to taste on a better day. Soup up the quality of the ingredients, and you'd be looking at one mean slice! read more

This is my first ever review on Yelp. I'm a foodie, but I've never really felt the need review a place, and I've never photographed a meal, but when I have a really bad experience, I need to vent. I don't think I've ever felt more ignored in a place than Pizza Marvin tonight. All I wanted was a slice of pizza, and I've heard good things about this place, but when I got there there was a guy fiddling with flour and dough but not actually making any pizzas. There was a guy at the counter staring at a screen, and some people standing around chatting. It reminded me of the the Todd Snider song about the rock band that refused to play a single note...Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues. It was like buying pizza at a hostile Apple store. I'm all for a little evolving but let's not forget the basics. Want a parm shaker? You gotta ask the cook for a small cup because they don't have any. Garlic powder? Salt & Pepper? Nope. Diet Cola? Forget it, you can have an overpriced juice. Your buddy wants more dressing for their salad? Get your wallet out again caus it's 2 bucks (My friends laughed thinking I was joking when I came back to the table!) Cocktails were average for what they're charging. It really feels like there's a great pizza chef paired with a business partner who's never worked in the restaurant/hospitality industry. Delicious pizza! I've only tried this place twice- the first time was two years ago and I got the Roni Island pizza and the baked clams (kind of like mini stuffies) to-go... I also had a cocktail ("Transfusion") that I won on Instagram- it was good but a little too sweet for my taste- I used it as a mixer to my at-home cocktails but it is good if you like sweet, nice grape flavor. I went for a 2nd time and dined in- I got the Roni Island pizza again and it was fantastic! Also got the taco wings- sheesh, they were good- like mini pieces of fried chicken... very crispy and meaty (maybe could have used a little more seasoning but I will get them again). I also ordered a cider, it was ok- a little sour but good. In the future, i really want to try their crustacean tower- looks AMAZING but i know it's only certain dates and with preorder. Stopped by Pizza Marvin with a couple of friends of mine last week, and was pleasantly surprised by the vibe. The restaurant has this super retro vibe that's a lot of fun. Also liked the old movies being played on the projector screen. It was great place to sit down and have great conversation. The food was as amazing as the atmosphere. We ordered the taco wings, salad, and the big dipper. I was really impressed by the taco wings. They wings were incredibly well seasoned. Came here with a few friends the other night and I really enjoyed this place! They have great pizza selections (we went with the roni island) and their pizza is done very well! We really liked the thin crust on the pizza and the great toppings. Caesar salad was good with lot of toppings. We also got the fries, which I liked but maybe a little overly seasoned - a bit salty? One of the biggest winners at our meal was actually the custard! We got the strawberry and elderflower swirl and it was divine. Both had some pulpiness which we loved. Honestly kind of tasted like froyo in its texture, but very very fresh! Parking is street parking with lot of neighborhood side streets. I would definitely come back to try other pizzas! Pizza Marvin is becoming an institution on Wickenden Street, and for good reason. I'm a square pizza guy. Give me Sicilian, give me Detroit, I'll always go for the corners over a circle. And Pizza Marvin delivers with the square. I got slices. A tomato pie slice, a cheese slice, and a pepperoni slice. All of them were terrific. The crust is medium thick, airy, crunchy, buttery and totally on point. The sauce is fresh and brassy. With the cheese and the tomato pie it was a little sweet. With the pepperoni slice, it was a little spicy. And when I say pepperoni slice, there were at least 15 pepperonis on this square. Overflowing cup and char ronis. Too much to be honest, but it's better to have too much than not enough. Pizza Marvin is known for fresh, high quality, outstanding pizza. They were a James Beard finalist, so that tells you everything you need to know. The selection of beverages was a bit lacking. There's no Coke or Pepsi, just specialty soda that it's hard to tell what it is in the cooler. So I just went with water to save myself the aggravation. Seating is a little odd as well, unless you want to sit by a window at a counter or one of the two or three little tables inside. There's also a nice outside patio space but it's been so hot and humid out. That's not really a great option. Overall, this is a great place to get some slices or a whole pie.
