    Meatlovers
    Jason M.

I was skeptical at first driving 25 mins to Bristol for some pizza. But this was probably the best meatlovers Detroit style pizza I've had. The sauce on top had a sweet savory taste to it and they weren't cheap with the meat on the pizza. Overall I was content with what I got and would make the trip again for other pizzas from this place

I was in town visiting family and I already knew what I was doing for dinner, hours before they opened for the day. Fair and Square Pizzeria is on Gooding Ave in Bristol, on the edge of town so you can get your pizza while still avoiding the craze of the downtown festivities. I have been a long time fan of Riccotti's Sandwich Shop and had been watching Ben's journey with Detroit pizza unfold over the last year or so, when it started as Friday pop-ups at the sandwich shop. I have eagerly awaited the opening of the new shop for months. My moment had finally arrived. Inside the shop the ac was pumping (bless) and the staff was cooking up a storm. I got there early to check out the space. Blue and white checkered, with touches of Rhode Island here and there. You can see the steel pans stacked up as you wait for your pizza and you get to enjoy the delicious smells as you wait. My online order quoted my pizza being ready for 6:03 and on the DOT they called my name. I scurried around the corner and got dinner plated for everyone. We got a custom pizza with marinara and pancetta, plus the Pig Newton. The pancetta pizza was perfect. Light airy dough - the flavor of the sourdough coming through wonderfully, the crunchy cooked cheese edges, perfect sauce - savory, slightly acidic and herbaceous. The pancetta is top quality, the taste and crisp exactly how it should be. The Pig Newton had fig spread, arugula, prosciutto di parma and parmesan reggiano drizzled with balsamic glaze. This one two combo of sweet and savory knocked it out of the park. The brick cheese in contrast to the fig added a funky depth of flavor I really enjoyed. While I give Fair & Square two thumbs up, if you know me, you know it's my grandmother's opinion that matters most. Her verdict? "You can get this pizza anytime for me " so Ben if you could please be open Mondays, we would appreciate it because that's my usual day with her. For my pizza loving friends, don't let a silly thing like the bridge stop you from experiencing this high quality pizza firsthand. It's more than worth the trek to the East Bay! Come and see for yourself, you'll be quite pleased

I am now officially addicted to their "Usual" pizza haha..I have been at least 4 times in the last month and the consistency is true perfection and does not disappoint. The folks are super nice with great service and they even have a rewards program for frequent flyers like myself lol. Can't wait to go back!!

Wow! We got four pizzas for our pool party today and they were hot and ready in under 20 minutes. The pizzas are so flags and unique and everyone loved them! They were perfect for sharing, and it was nice to get a bunch to try. The new pizza shop is stunning and service was great. For a new shop, they certainly have everything down to a science already! Yum!!

I stopped in to Fair and Square Pizzeria before going to the East Bay Bicycle path. I ordered a Margherita slice, and a classic Pepperoni slice. My Pizza was served to me at room temperature. The Goober who runs the place got bent out of shape when I asked him to warm it up. The slices when warm were just average. No bathroom after driving five hours didn't improve my experience. Thank U next!

The pizza size was very small for the price if $22. The pizza was extremely greasy. Will think twice before going back!

I love their Arancini appetizer - the sauce it comes with is the perfect tomato flavor without being too heavy on garlic, and is well balanced. The balls themselves are always so creamy and fresh. I've always loved my pasta meals here, and have sadly yet to try their pizza. Despite its small size, I haven't had to wait too long for a dinner table for two here. The food is always fresh and tastes authentic and rich. My only gripe is that I'm always seated in the first 'greenhouse' looking section, that only fits about 4 tables, and the acoustics are just awful. My boyfriend and I joke that we always seem to be sat next to the loudest and most insufferable people when we come here - you feel like you're in the middle of everyone else's conversations and can hear every word, and there's always, somehow, a person right near us going on some rant or political tirade, and to be honest it kind of ruins the meal for us. Due to the proximity and small enclosed space, it's impossible to tune other people out. There's also no sense of privacy for your own conversation, which always gives me the ick to have others so on top of me at a restaurant. Perhaps next time we come we just need to request a table in the further back part, and hopefully that would improve things because I do love the food here. Free street parking is not too difficult to find in this area, although you may need to go a little ways down Wood Street or even take a side road. There is a bit of reckless driving in the area due to this being a business essentially in a neighborhood, so be vigilant when crossing the street or picking up your order - people doing takeout have a habit of blocking a whole lane to put their car there with the hazards on, but it's a pretty dangerous and inconvenient place to do this. Please just find a real parking spot if you're grabbing takeout.

When I saw that BHOP was participating in this year's Lord of the Pies, I was so happy to return here after so many years. Bristol House of Pizza definitely didn't disappoint! The pizza was just as I remembered it - crust was crispy around the edges, lots of cheese, flavorful sauce. It was really good! Service here is order at the counter. The person who took our order was friendly and efficient. We ate in the dining room, which has doubled in size since the 1980's, and it is attractive and comfortable. Especially liked the tables by the large windows looking out onto State Street. BHOP also always had great sandwiches, and although we didn't try any ourselves during our visit, the sandwiches that we saw at other tables looked amazing. Pasta and entrees are available too. Inside, red ladder-back chairs, blonde wood tables, a pop art pizza slice on the wall. Paper plates. No cups, even though they sell 2-liter bottles with those 20 ouncers. It's really, at its heart, a nicely appointed takeout spot. A small space, maybe 20 seats, but friendly, the guys throwing the pizzas talked with us while they made pies. Easy, natural. Like being at someone's house. That's their food truck DNA showing through. Joey and Jay started making pizzas at backyard cookouts in 2021. Friends kept asking for more, so they bought a wood-fired truck. They blew up around Rhode Island and Massachusetts after that and opened this brick and mortar shop in 2023. We started with meatballs. Two of them in marinara with pecorino on top and fresh basil. These were exceptional. Tender, moist, herbaceous in the best way, seasoned like someone's grandmother taught them how. The sauce had real flavor, bright and rich at the same time. They were almost identical to Bettola's, which is high praise. Best meatballs I've had from a pizza place in months. I kept thinking these would be incredible in a sandwich or calzone. Then came the Sicilian pie. 16 by 12 inches, thick crust, split down the middle: half cheese, pepperoni, and olives; half grilled chicken. The crust showed serious color variation (gold to deep brown to char spots). That brick oven's running hot and nobody's micromanaging every inch. Look at the crumb structure in those cross-sections. Big, irregular air pockets. Wild shapes that only happen when time does the work. Not the uniform bubbles of rushed dough. Light, airy, crispy on the bottom, sturdy enough to hold whatever is on top. Golden brown undercarriage with real structure. In no way doughy like most Sicilians turn out. That 24-hour fermentation they talk about? It's real. You can see it. That light, airy structure leaves you full but not bloated. The pepperoni and olive side delivered. Good snap on the pepperoni, quality cheese melted perfectly, clean tomato sauce balancing sweetness and acid. Just fresh tomato flavor doing its job. The chicken side is where it gets interesting. Grilled chicken is the canary in the coal mine for pizza competence. It separates the pizza makers from the pizza fakers. Get it wrong and it's dried out on top or rubbery underneath because they don't understand that chicken needs to cook ON the pizza, not ahead of time. Moving Dough gets it. The chicken was moist, properly cooked, not dry or rubbery. They kept the cheese and sauce ratio the same as the other half, so a touch more sauce would've helped with moisture and flavor, but the fact that the chicken survived the oven tells you they know what they're doing. That's the New Haven DNA of the shop. The crust is a platform. Toppings get the spotlight. The sauce carries flavor. The cheese does its work. The crust holds it all together with that crispy foundation and doesn't compete. It works. I'd go back for those meatballs alone. But I also want to try their regular round pies, see what they do with The Hot Chick or The Tenderoni. Who goes to Barrington for pizza? Moving Dough puts it on the map.

Our reservations were for 6pm and we arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated promptly as the restaurant was not busy. For my meal I ordered a cup of soup and the baked Italian fish. My son also ordered a cup of soup and spaghetti and meatballs. My husband ordered the shrimp florentine, which was a special. We waited a while and noticed that another table nearby that arrived later than us received a bread basket and their appetizers. We never received a bread basket and never received our soup. They finally brought our entrees. I told her she could just take the soup off the bill since we never received them. My fish was pretty good, although a bit overcooked. The sauce on top was very good. I really liked the spinach on the side. My husband's meal included feta, which he will not eat. This was not explained when she described the specials and he asked her twice what was included. He scraped off the feta and proceeded to eat the rest. My son said his spaghetti and meatballs had a strange taste that he didn't care for. All in all, we found the experience to be a bit underwhelming.
