Really great spot for brunch! I can see why this place has spectacular reviews. Parking is easy once you get inside and scan the code for free parking. The place is beautiful and modern. There's communal seating in the main dining area but we had fun sitting at the bar and watching them make coffee. Service was great. Multiple people attended to us and they were very friendly and energetic. I believe the owner was the main person behind the bar and he was so much fun. Not to be rude, but Mary should not be Proud of that chicken sandwich. I ate it up with my eyes, but the mayo had to do all the lifting for the sandwich. It needed more flavor & salt. And not only did they use American cheese, the slice was not melted. We passed it around our table of 8 and everyone agreed. The ice cream latte sounded like a good idea, but it just didn't impress. We stopped in on 4th of July, which obviously drew a bit of a wait. There's not a lot of parking so we parked in the garage and the restaurant validates some time off (I think we ended up staying for 1.5 hrs and only paid $5). They have a pretty long bar area that's open seating and mostly communal tables. I'm not really into pricey breakfast spots but we were from out of town and wanted something good. This place was pretty packed when we arrived, and despite the rain and gloomy weather outside, people were still lined up waiting for either seating or to-go orders. We opted to take our food to go to avoid a long wait, but that didn't take away from the quality of the food or the experience. The staff was super friendly and helpful when it came to taking our orders and explaining the menu. They even brought out the food for everyone who was waiting outside! The line moves pretty quickly, and they bring out everything as it's ready. The nitro chill coffee was tasty, though not as strong as I would've liked, but still good. The real star of the show was the pork belly bacon--omg, it was so juicy and crispy at the same time! Paired with the little bagna cauda sauce, it was absolutely amazing. The hash brown was huge, crispy on the outside, though I would've liked it a little more cooked and crispy on the inside as well. The eggs were cooked just the way I like them and tasted super fresh. This would've been an even better experience if we had been able to dine in, but I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to do just that and try those ricotta pancakes or the espresso flights! When my friend Esther suggested we go to Proud Mary yesterday for brunch, I checked out the reviews on Yelp and was game! We worked up an appetite doing yoga before and I didn't get a chance to have coffee before the class, so as soon as we parked, I ran in to get some for us! I was so pleased when she handed me a coffee menu and confirmed I could order coffee from her while we waited. Five minutes into our wait, our coffee was ready... We each had a flat white with oat milk and wow - it was amazing! We were seated shortly after and Miranda was our server. She was also personable and attentive and despite how busy the restaurant was, she took her time sharing suggestions on the menu and answering our questions. We both went with the avocado toast and added poached eggs... and I decided to be adventurous and order a side of vegemite, since I'd never tried it. The items on Proud Mary's menu sports one of the most unique food brunch options I've seen. Food combinations that appears to be strewn together by blindly throwing darts at an ingredient board, I found myself almost intimidated to try their more creative dishes. But with such great reviews, it's hard not to want to see what the fuss is about. Getting there, I luckily snagged a parking space right at their front entrance, so I managed to avoid dealing with logistics of parking in the garage. The cafe was bright, busy, welcoming, and loud at noontime on Thursday. We got a seat right away and our server was nice and attentive through the whole meal. We ordered the ricotta hotcakes, scrambled egg roti, and an aussi iced coffee. The aussi iced coffee comes with a big scoop of ice cream. The coffee initially has the expected bitterness from iced coffee, but over time as the ice cream melts and gets incorporated in, the flavor transforms into a sweet latte. I love my sweet coffee drinks, so I was a fan. May try their mocha version next time. The ricotta hotcakes was delicious and sweet without just being a pile of sugar. The hotcakes were tall and super fluffy, and the whipped sour cream added even more moisture. The overall sweetness was well balanced by the ricotta and poached apples. Plus a nice crunchy texture from the oats. The scrambled egg roti was also delicious. Breakfast eggs are often dry or too heavily saturated with butter. Not these. The eggs are super moist, light, and almost still runny. They absorb the spicy oil well and pairs nicely with the fresh and fragrant bean sprout and pickled veggie salad. Add it on top of pieces of crispy roti and you got a heavenly bite. The spice doesn't hit very hard but definitely lingers. This is one of the menu items that I had no idea what to expect in terms of flavor, but everything pairs perfectly and I loved every bite. Only complaint is that we needed a second roti to finish off all the eggs. Without it or any kind of carb, everything becomes a bit heavy. Couldn't resist trying the pork belly bacon and it's so much better than regular bacon. It's thick, smoky, and has tasty fatty sections all over. We didn't have a single bite we didn't like here. The flavors work because of how well everything complements and balance each other. Our meals of sweetness from the hotcakes, savory from the bacon, spicy from the egg roti, and bitterness from the coffee is a meal to remember. And to make it perfect, Proud Mary serves a piece of crispy & buttery roti on the side. My girlfriend ordered the more basic, but still appetizing eggs on toast (also soft scrambled). The dish might have a bit too much butter, but it's very rich and tasty on a good hearty bread. I suggest a good helping of pepper to balance the butter. She also ordered a flat white, which was very smooth for a coffee drink, but perhaps a bit on the milky side. I had a drip coffee, single origin. No bitter, no sour, which in my mind is the sign of a well poured cup. Pro tip: if you need an extra boost, refills are just $1.50. If you want to go beyond the more basic drinks, Proud Mary offers a big selection of single origin espressos and pour overs, but they get very pricey very quickly ($9 and up ... I think a few were close to $20!) Since most people drive in, a quick tip: the small complex that houses Proud Mary uses Metropolis for paid parking. We didn't realize that you can have up to 5 hrs of free parking by scanning the code on the door and parking in the garage that is directly behind (under the Atmosphere building). The dining room was so full of light and trend right finishes. We immediately felt welcome even during a busy afternoon brunch rush. Although they have many unique offerings on their coffee menu, I stuck with a standard latte with oat milk. It was one of the best coffees I've had because of its smoothness and richness. We then tried a couple of the toasts (Avocado and Miso Leek). I highly recommend the Miso Leek for its decadent, umami flavor. The potato hash was crispy but needed a bit of seasoning, while the belly bacon was quite yummy if you're looking for more of a protein fix. I was looking for a good third-wave coffee shop in the Austin area and was recommended to give this place a try. Upon entering, it looks like a restaurant more than a coffee shop, but there is an array of different coffee options including multiple pour over options ranging from $7-$50+ per cup! One of the most expensive coffee shops I have ever seen, and the most I have ever spent on one. They have a pour over flight, which is about $20. Beware, the flights are about a serving each, so you're essentially getting three cups. The employees let you smell the coffee after grinding and prior to brewing, which gives you a good idea of the potential taste. Coffee is amazing!!! The food is also very good.
