Brooklyn's oasis. I came here for a picnic for one of my Meetups. There are very limited pinic tables at the south end of this park. Grilling is permitted. There is also a lack of benches where patrons can rest. read more

I don't live in Brooklyn, but Prospect Park has made me consider moving there--no, really! We went to see The Hold Steady at the Bandshell last night and it was great. The venue has enough seating for thousands of people, either in chairs or on the grassy, open lawns. Just walking around the park was hugely relaxing and it would be wonderful to have access to such a serene landscape all the time. Park Slope might be a little too quiet for my taste, but oh, to have Prospect Park so close! read more

Manhattan has CENTRAL PARK, Brooklyn has PROSPECT PARK. Size wise, Central Park has Prospect Park beat. Bug wise, Prospect takes the cake. I saw way too many people bit up today. Cute white girls with beautiful legs tore up with mosquito bites...Smh That shyt aint cute. You know what else isn't cute? This park being surround by THE GHETTO. I think that really degrades not only the safety but also the over quality of the park. I've been here working for Googa Mooga and now tonight TropFest. The crowds that come here are DIVERSE that range from fresh off the boat Cubans to Hasidic Jews. There are two MAIN entrances... If you are coming from the West side by 9th street or if you are coming from the East site by Ocean Avenue. There are always events happening in this park which is actually quite beautiful if not for the resident hood guys/girls. The boathouse in this park are rented out throughout the year ranging from food tasting/wine tasting to tonight's wedding. At least the air is fresh right? read more

It's a beautiful huge park that the whole family can enjoy. Whether it's a stroll in the park, a picnic or fun afternoon of ice skating in the winter time this park is worth the time to visit. read more

See all

Beautiful landscape, nice quiet place to be and workout. Some much space you really can lose yourself.

Stranded like a backpack someone lost on a hiking trip and never went back to retrieve, I ventured through THE BK park, taking in the sights, all the while wishing I had someone with which to share it. Maybe next time if I don't use the technically proper "with which to" and just go all out and end my sentences with prepositions, I'll be less lonely. read more

Prospect Park - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I've done some things in Prospect Park. No really. *sigh* * mischievous grin* I have done some things...in Prospect Park. Prospect Park is the quintessential Brooklyn experience. Before the Williamsburg was cool, before Bed Stuy became safe, before Crown Heights had any restaurant rows - Prospect Park stood as perhaps the singular greatest testament to our iconic borough of Brooklyn. I grew up in Prospect Park - skating at Wollman Rink with the fam as a kid, hanging with my crew during lazy summer evenings of my preteen years, succumbing to my raging hormones in its darkest corners as a teen, watching my sister and her husband exchange vows on the field in front of the Picnic House in my twenties, and watching my nieces, nephews, godchildren and their friends recreate my youth in my thirties. Back in the day Prospect Park had it's problems. There were issues with safety and routine perversions by troubled men engaging in spectacles of self-gratification (and I'm not talking about my teenage crush). However, these days, the park is a flourishing testament to green spaces in urban cities. They have a slew of activities including the much publicized zoo, carousel, ice skating rink, and band shell (perfect for free summer concerts). They also have a couple of hidden gems, one of which is the Lefferts Historic House Museum (http://www.prospectpark.org/lefferts), that gives visitors a opportunity to partake in a piece of Brooklyn history. Thinking of visiting NYC without a stop in BK? Fahgettaboudit!! Come to Brooklyn for an authentic outer-borough experience. Take the 2/3 train to Eastern Parkway and make a day of it visiting the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Brooklyn Public Library, and Prospect Park all within walking distance of each other. Bring your significant other and find a nice quiet corner of the park to get your romance on! read more

Prospect Park vs. Central Park I travelled to Central park nearly every day for the past 4 years; I have a dog and most of it is here: (www.flickr.com/photos/tonsies) but since our move to Bklyn - my eyes have been opened. Below are my notes: Both Built by Vaux & Olmstead Central Park (CP) is a museum Prospect Park (PP) is modelled after pastures (CP)has a lot of off limits (PP)does not It's illegal to grill in CP Bring it all to PP Rec fields abound (tie) dogs not allowed in big fields in CP free reign and did I mention DOG BEACH!? Strawberry fields CP less tourists PP boat house, lakes, zoo, bathrooms, rental spaces TIE Seriously folks, if you want to feel like you're truly getting away, feel the grass beneath your toes, grill out and not have to swim over millions of tourists and have to touch other sweaty strangers just to walk down a path; go to PP read more

I just got so excited that I could review Prospect Park on here. Oh if it could give it 6 stars I would!! I absolutely 100% love this park! Great for running, walking, biking, rollerblading, riding horses...etc. I love that it's such a family place. There are barbecues, frisbees, picnics, people laying out, baseball games. Man, it's great. I live one street over so I come here almost every day and try and get lost on the trails. LOVE!! read more

Ok I left a negative review of how the valet bashed the rear bumper of my vehicle without a word nor apologies. Then the owner or whoever responded, apparently with empty promises by asking me to text a number to resolve the problem. Up until right now I'm yet to hear or read from them. Highly unprofessional!!! Darlington U. read more

Yay for nature in the city. I live a few blocks away, and I am so grateful to have this nearby. I often go on runs here, but with the warmer weather sometimes I just take walks or have picnics. It's kept so clean and beautiful. It's definitely worth a visit in both the spring and fall. Look out for the horse poop ;) read more

Huge park with so many things to do! Biking, walking and running loop around park, many trails to explore, skating rink, huge fountain for kids to cool off during summer, paddle boat rentals, baseball fields, picnic and BBQ areas, the list goes on and on! I go very frequently to walk abound the loop. Best times to go are during weekdays. Can get VERY crowded during the weekend and tourists take up the walking and biking path which makes it hard to exercise. read more

I've been to most parts of the park since i moved to Brooklyn. This park was designed by Olmstead and he said he liked it better than Central Park. This is a great place to hang out no matter what you want to do (picnic, go to a playground, feed ducks, walk your dog, play soccer etc). I'd give it 5 stars except there are throngs of crazy ass bicyclists who think they are in the tour de france and don't follow the traffic rules so when you're crossing you have to dodge getting hit by flying lycra. read more

I LOVE this park. It's a smaller scale of Central Park and maintains all the perks. They have a zoo, a waterfall, several playgrounds, a couple of lakes that offer paddle boats and a skating rink. There are many sides to this park, but I prefer the West side (Prospect Park West). They house a bandshell and host summer concerts with some big names every week. Any given day you will find groups of people just hanging back enjoying the atmosphere. The winter time brings many opportunities to sled, ski, snow shoe, make snow angels or snow people. From Green markets, running trails, cycling and hiking trails, and plenty of space to lounge, it has something for everyone. It's a beautiful park and we're lucky to have it. read more

A must visit while in brooklyn. BBQ. Lakeside. Rink. Playgrounds. Concerts. Bike. Run. Walk. Play.

What's not to love about Central Park? I LOVE Central Park, but I hate New Yorkers that don't follow rules! You know who you are.

This park is embedded into my childhood and adolescence. I've been here during all four seasons and at a variety of hours during the day into night. It seems as if with each visit, you leave with something different. I've gotten poison ivy three times here. Countless dates with the characteristic making out on benches and in the middle of the fields at night. Getting lost is preferable here because you either rely on childhood memories to find your way back, or you stumble onto a trail of used condoms. A breast cancer walk where we took at detour at McDonald's. Barbecues, Frisbees, class trips, gazebos, and mosquito bites. Central Park's got nothing on Prospect Park. read more

The park is nice and green! It was also very clean great place to go on a hot summer day for a nice walk!! Its also a nice place to go jogging, the pond there was a nice view to take pictures!! Worth the visit read more

Love it!!! I'm only 5 minutes away which makes it even better. Prospect Park was brought to us by the architects that designed Central Park . it looks just like Central Park but obviously smaller. Great for: Kids, Bicycling, Birding, Boating, Dog Walking, Drumming, Fishing, Horseback Riding, Ice Skating, In-line Skating, Picnic/BBQ, Running, Weddings. What a day, what a perfect day to experience the wonder that Prospect Park has to offer. It was so beautiful filled with many people, but relaxing to sit down on the grounds and BBQ with friends. The park is lush, filled with so much life and it is much like Central Park but with a more "real" feel. Not touristy, but urban in a good way. We were able to have a nice spot, BBQ and enjoy the perfect day to relax and forget that we are even in the city. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what the park has to offer. I'm really happy I finally got to experience a true picnic BBQ in Brooklyn. read more

Yay! I love this park. I prefer it to Central Park because it feels less crowded. However, there are many smaller wooded pathways that always make me feel like I'm going to be a part of a situation that might take place in the opening scene of Law & Order: SVU (i.e. it's creepy and makes me feel unsafe) but I think that's what most larger parks are like in general. There are a lot of big open fields and it's cute to go for a run or walk on the weekends and see the younger kids playing soccer and baseball, etc. and encounter lots of people walking their dogs. read more

Five star rating is for DAYTIME use of the park. This park is good in the daylight hours. Early morning, early afternoon, etc. Do not travel in the park by foot --if you are alone. Weekends, Sat and Sunday mornings, the pack is PACKED with walkers, joggers, bikers, and even some entertainers. The park is filled to capacity --which is so cool in those early hours. 1. The scenery is totally awesome! The walk around the entire park is very long. 2. There are plenty of benches to sit on along the way. 3. In one section of the park there are bbq s already set up (who knew?), so that's a great place to picnic ---arrive very early on weekends if you plan to do that. 4. Wildlife is abundant, if you just look , stop, listen and pause. You'll see plenty of birds in warm weather, also squirrels, and lots of people walk their pets there. (Watch out for those unleashed dogs; even though that's not legal, people still walk their dogs without leashes in the park. 5. Most important, especially if you are a tourist, (or not), do not walk the park alone in the dark. And do not walk the park alone when it is near darkness. (The park is LONG and wide, so you might begin walking when it is near dark and find yourself in the middle of the park, lone , after dark). So walk with friends or walk only in the daytime hours. The time the park is good after dark is when they have performances, concerts, Shakespeare, etc. Go with the crowds and get out of the park as soon as the event is over. Do not linger on the hidden paths. IF possible, bring a cellular into the park. Always be alert to what or whom is around you. If you feel that something is wrong --listen to your own gut instinct. The park is a GREAT place to be, so enjoy it. Just take the precautions that you need to take, and then just enjoy. read more

This is a beautiful park! I love parks + nature :) It was a bit chilly when we went, but nonetheless, I was still able to enjoy the outing. It was fun to watch all the children on the merry-go-round, and also to visit the Lefferts Historic House. The main treat was the boathouse/Audubon Center which overlooks a beautiful pond. Something out of 1920s Great Gatsby. They had an open house that day, and there is a little cafe inside. Yes..even at the park, you can yelp the food. We had an audobon cookie, which was shaped like a swan? and also an M&M cookie, both were good and satiated the afternoon munchies :) Really would love to come back and do some running. Quick get my trainers!! read more

This is as close to nature as you're going to get in Brooklyn. When you're here you get to tune out the city looming a mile or two away. Any Brooklynite will tell you stories about Prospect park. This place is great for kids, bike path for the joggers, family cookouts during the summer, picnics, church gatherings, farmer's market, concerts. They all take place here. Prospect Park is the only place I'd feel safe throwing a boomerang and not worrying about it flying into oncoming traffic. Why I would be throwing boomerangs in the park is a review for another day. Easily accessible by bus or train when you need to get away from it all this is the place to be for a little bit of peace and quiet. There's no shortage of things to do while you're here and with the Botanical Gardens a short walk away you can just spend the day between them. read more

Even though pollen lurks around every corner, patiently plotting on the best plan of attack to take me out, I love having boot camp out here. We meet at the 16th street and Prospect Park South West entrance and it's pretty cool. Not too much foot traffic to interrupt my favorite plank jacks, or squats (yeah...favorite). The area is always clean as is most of the park. Tons of stuff to do here. Sometimes just walking and taking in this marvelous park in the middle of BK is all you need to do to appreciate what a gem it really is. read more

Prospect park is arguably the best park in New York State. It suffers from lack of care in some places, but honestly I like that. It makes me yearn for an overgrown, abandoned Brooklyn. The perfect Sunday can be spent here strolling by the lakes, walking the tracks, hiking their paths. Central Park is great, but it's just not the same. Something about Prospect Park feels almost magical, almost as if some subdued electricity courses through the very roots of the trees. The meadows and lawns make for great picnic areas, while grilling stations can help get the BBQ rolling. Highly recommend it over other parks. read more

I wish the off leash hours were longer. I am pretty sure I got my next job because a bird pooped on my head in this park. Pretty much I find it hard to go to Central Park because I live walking distance to here. 'Nuff said. read more

This park is the hub of Brooklyn. There's no other way to describe it. It's huge, has awesone open lawn spaces and so great hiking trails as well. If you live in Brooklyn and don't like Prospect Park, then you're broken. I've met alot of people that prefer Prospect park to Central park because they love the layout of it and Prospect Park doesn't have that air of pretentiousness (although there can be some depending of who's there) that Central park does. If you like being in a crowd of people, kids and picnicers, chill out in the Long Meadow. If you prefer the quiet head over to the Nethermead and rest your ears and mind. If you're a dog lover/owner, like me, bring your pooch here during the off-leash hours when the park becomes a see of playing canines and their owners. The long meadow is great of running and trails between the Long Meadow and Nethermead are great for a little hiking Like Central park of the past and present, Prospect Park is not an oasis from crime and anyone jogging through it at night better keep their head on a swivel. With everything getting crazier and busier and louder, there's nothing better than Prospect Park. It's what helps me, and so many others, maintain their sanity. read more

I love this park, I've been visiting it for as long as I can remember. I love going to the free concerts in the summer, and it's always a good place to strike up a conversation with a random person. I actually taught someone how to hula hoop once....and it wasn't a little kid. Ha. You absolutely HAVE to go every August for the annual celebration of Michael Jackson's bday too. It's so much fun! Beautiful in the winter time when it snows. Even though I hate winter, I love visiting the park & taking pictures. The lake is beautiful & picturesque, and there are so many nooks to explore....Just make sure that when you explore those nooks you don't get eaten up my mosquitos. Ah, memories......... ;-) read more

I've now lived in Park Slope for about 9 months and Prospect Park is one of the main reasons I'm so attached to the neighborhood. I have to say, the park has definitely helped out with my nature-deficient disorder. I visit at least three or four times a week. During the weekdays, I'll go for runs in the loop (~ 3.3 miles for the inner loop and ~4 miles for the outer loop) and my roommates and I also usually walk our chocolate lab through the park on weekend mornings. Every time I walk or run through the park, I see a different event, whether it's a cultural festival, a chili cook-off, a yoga class or just families spending time together. I'm honestly grateful and very lucky to live so close. read more

Love prospect park! Great for a quick jog! They have great playgrounds for the kiddos! The views of this park are breathtaking.

Love it a lot! Went here often as a kid it's a great place for families lots to do. Pedal operated boats are available to rent to take a tour around the lake. Great for anyone who likes animals, you can always see turtles basking or the ducks playing. Its a huge park with so much to do. read more

Prospect Park is the location where my anniversary run is with NYRR. The Jingle Bell Jog is located here every December. It's a four mile run and usually on the colder side. The park is great and offers a good amount of property to run and hang out in. Parking in the area is tough but luckily public transportation is close by. The park has a botanical garden attached to it and other nice things nearby. I feel one can have a good time here with decent weather. I've only ever came here in the morning so can't write about coming here in the evening. I would say be careful in the evening. The park has to be a couple hundred acres and some of the area could be worse then others. I will for sure come back here and go for more runs. The park offers some sloping hills and reminds me a little bit of Central Park. read more

I had never been to Prospect Park until yesterday. I got to know it intimately yesterday morning helping out with Hands on New York day as a volunteer. But after my work was done, I had the rest of the afternoon to hang out and just take in this beautiful park. I had no idea just how huge it is, and it is so beautiful and varied. It was consistently interesting and enjoyable. And I hate to admit this, but it is much nicer than Central Park -- in fact, this might be the best public park I have ever been to. It's just gorgeous and not nearly as crowded as Central Park can be, even for a beautiful day like yesterday. For the first time, I could see some appeal to living in Brooklyn, and that is worth 5 stars! If you have never been, check it out! read more

I may be a little biased because I live in the neighborhood, but Prospect Park is much better than Central Park. It has everything that Central Park has to offer, but without all the tourists and you can bring a grill and cookout in the park. There is a 5k loop that I run or bike a few times a week. There are waterfalls and lakes and ponds. There is an ice rink that opens in the winter time. The Bandshell is a good place to catch a show. There are several playgrounds for kids. All types of ball fields located throughout the park. The long meadow is where I have spent most of my time. Yes there are alot of people, but no one is ever on top of you. You can have a big group of friends without searching to find a good place to sit or worry about bothering anyone. There isn't really anything I enjoy more than grilling out in park on a nice day enjoying burgers and hotdogs with friends. read more

Gorgeous. That's the word that immediately comes to mind when I think about Prospect Park. This morning, whilst skipping through Grand Army Plaza with a large German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix on our way to the park (picture it, folks), I was really struck by how gorgeous Prospect Park is. Ample green space, loads of dogs and their people walking around, a kickin' green market - Prospect Park is one of my favorite places in Brooklyn. Truly gorgeous. read more

I know, it's only a park!! However, during my recent stay in BK, my friend suckered me into going running at Prospect Park (mind you, freezing cold east cold weather that this Cali girl isn't used to!) and I totally fell in love with the black and white setting from the fallen snow, the frozen lake, and the beautiful serene environment that this park exudes. So amazingly beautiful that I came here twice for a run in a matter of just one week. I can only imagine how Prospect Park looks like come Spring and I can't wait to check it out in person for myself! If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle around Central Park, then Prospect Park is definitely it! read more

Prospect Park - February 2011 - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I was stunned by the beauty, livelihood, and most importantly, harmony of everything belonged to this park. Partly I think it's because people who come here are cooler, like families with little kids, as well as sportive teenagers. there are some couples as well, but I feel like babies' faces are the brightest sunshine in this world. They really light up the whole park, making everybody happy. The neighborhoods around Prospect Park are also pretty cool. Thumbs up for whoever did the local urban design job!! I would really have to come back here soon. read more

Tempering the wild reviews, let's talk about the Bandshell shows in the summer. Free shows are what bring me out of hiding from July/August heat to trek down to Brooklyn. The chairs are so unnecessary though, as well as the unfortunate pushy vibe constantly trying to bring you down or interrupt your restricted mini-rock out. They compensate for the "free" label by checking bags and way overcharging for food and cups of beer that people actually waste their money on. The lights are kept pretty low for a cooler feel, the ground is nothing but dirt, and you have little hope of seeing the performers unless you show up maddeningly early to score a chair. All in all, you might be better off sitting on a few blades of grass outside the bandshell across the street. read more
