I run here on Tuesday nights, and come to off-leash hours (7:00am to 9:00am) on Saturday mornings and it's all so very blissful. There's a great Farmer's Market on Saturday near Grand Army Plaza that shouldn't be missed! When you're in Central Park, you can see all the tall buildings and you're constantly reminded that you're in the middle of a giagantic city. In Prospect Park you feel like you've gotten away from it all, and you can really feel a part of nature. read more

Glorious. Chaotic nature. Some decrepitude, crumbling bridges, bad paths. But also evident improvement projects. Nice in winter and summer. Allows barbeques. Allows horseback riding. Unfortunately, roads are used as a freeway shortcut but by the unscrupulous during rush hours. Otherwise safe. read more

Went to the Modest Mouse Concert here and was blown away! Definitely the best concert experience I've had in the NYC area. It was well organized, lines were fast for everything. The people working the event were all smiling and friendly. The food was delicious, healthy, and affordable. The beer was good and the lines went quick. Security wasn't obnoxious or rude. Sound got messed up a few times, but everything else was so great we didn't even care. (Maybe this isn't the right place for a concert review, but whatever, just another thing Prospect Park does right!) read more

Either I'm clueless or, HAPPY 100 REVIEWS PROSPECT PARK! I'm glad to be 101. Long stretches of grass, dog's rolling around in god knows what (but they seem to enjoy it) and no obnoxious horse carriages carrying tourists around making the place smell like poop! Also, pretty great concert venue during the summer (saw b-folds and rufus there in '05). read more

In a word: amazing. Grand Army Plaza entrance: pretty sweet. Bike loop: less crowded than Central Park, and with more interesting scenery along the way. Drummer's grove: djembes, congas, bongos, one hippie chick stomping arrhythmically, and a row of rastas totally zoned out in the bushes. definitely worth a few minutes' pause. The big field: enormous and enticingly recreational. Recommendation: Next sunny day, take a friend - or just go, and make a friend. As far as I'm aware, your warm-weather life can't be better spent anywhere else this close to the Manhattan. read more

I've always thought this was the best park in NYC...NYC's answer to SF's Golden Gate Park, a less manicured, more chilled out, more "wild" version of Central Park for Brooklynites and anyone willing to make the trek Highlights include: 1) The Long Meadow -- a really super stretch of rolling land starting near Grand Army Plaza heading southeast through the park 2) The Nethermead -- an interior area kinda smack dab in the middle of the park, hidden away to award those who hike to it 3) Prospect Park Lake (near the Prospect Park Boathouse) -- really scenic area of the lake near the Nethermead 4) Brooklyn Botanic Garden -- In the northeastern corner of the park; pretty lovely if you're into this kinda thing 5) Prospect Park Bandshell -- a summertime venue where they'll host Brooklyn-vibe bands of all kinds (e.g., The National, Grizzly Bear) Best time of the year is definitely in Fall when the leaves are changing and the park is like a technicolor leafy snow globe. Do it at least once and find your fave spots! read more

One of the most vibrant , yet calm and sereen places in the city . Top spot to relax and do nothing . Or catch a show.

My favorite place to visit and became more frequent during the pandemic. I workout and attend events here. Wish there was more bathrooms.

Prospect Park doesn't need another 5-star review, but I'm going to throw my $0.02 in anyway. One major reason I don't belong to a gym is because I live a couple of blocks away from this park. That 3.25 mile track has not only helped me lose weight and get into good shape, but taught this city girl how nice it is to spend time outdoors, in areas with lots of trees and grass. Every time I take a walk, I see something different: horses, swans, a billion different kinds of dogs, weddings, barbecues, kids flying kites. Any day where I have spent even a little bit of time in Prospect Park never feels like a day wasted. read more

I would give this park 6 stars if I could. Or maybe I should've just given Central Park 4. But that's not fair to the big CP...damn!!! It's worth noting that the designer of Central Park considered THIS his masterpiece, and with good reason. Long Meadow is the largest contiguous meadow in any park in America , and it's 90 acres of lying, frisbeeing and picnicking heaven. The surrounding environs are distinctly less hectic and riddled with tourists than Central Park, and many places towards the center of the park achieve what I thought was impossible, namely a complete absence of city noise or smells which I've found pivotal to retaining my (relative) sanity in this hustle and bustle city of ours. Prospect Park, I wanna have yo baby... read more

Designated BBQ areas suck. It was way too packed very early in the morning on memorial day. Need to allow more space for expanded BBQ usage.

Brooklyn wouldn't be Brooklyn without Prospect Park and while it's often compared to Central Park the comparison isn't really fair because the layouts are quite different. They're two different worlds and the landscape is substantially different. Prospect Park is the traditional American park space. Big open fields, simple running paths, ponds, few buildings or fieldhouses and an interesting diamond shape that seems to unify several neighborhoods. When you go for a jog on a mild summer morning and see the dew dissipate, the other runners and walkers breezing past, the occasional turtle, the dogs, the cyclists and the geese dropping more goose bombs you can't help but smile. It is everything that is good about American park land and even better when it's surrounded by some of the most idyllic urban architecture in town. read more

After watching Shea D and Anthony F run a marathon through Prospect Park, I can definitely say that this park is a much nicer version of Central Park, albeit way out in Brooklyn ;) In order to get Shea D to the start line for the NYRR Holiday 4 mile, we had to power walk through about 2 miles of the park (the employees for the race were not very good at giving directions for the shortest route to the start line...they sent us in exactly the opposite direction). It looked well kept and minus the creepies that tend to frequent its larger Manhattan cousin. Would definitely return for some frisbee or picnic-ing when the temperatures are not subzero :) read more

I have said for years now that if I won the lottery tomorrow, the very first thing I would do is buy a brownstone right on Prospect Park. (After eradicating world hunger, natch.) In a borough that I can navigate pretty easily -- neatly gridded, easily walkable, just hop on a train if you get confused -- running the loop in the park is its own experience. I'm lost, in the happiest way, in trees and brush and patches of sky. And really, it's hard to beat Prospect Park's recession special -- no membership, just free concerts and free expanses of grass to lay out on and free jaw-dropping preserved nature 365 days a year. read more

I thought I would have some epic review for my 800th, but I figured, what better place than Prospect Park. What ever you don't like about Central Park, it's pretty much corrected here in Prospect Park. Plus you can BBQ here! What else do you need? This is truly a respite from the hectic city life and it's got some great spots for a picnic and an easily manageable 3.5 mile loop for a run. I can't wait for SPRING!!!! read more

Beautiful park without the tourists. I can't tell you how much better Prospect Park is when compared to Central Park. read more

Prospect Park - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I'm here every morning with my puppy. I used to bike through here as a kid. It's nicer than Central Park in many ways.

Prospect Park is a wonderful place to go when you don't want to feel like you are in Brooklyn. I took a recent trip there and visited the zoo. There is a nice selection of animals to learn about as well as several sealion feedings throughout the day. The zoo also includes a short nature trail to walk through, where you can see kangaroos hanging around. Apparently there is a petting zoo there as well. The petting zoo features the usual cow, sheep and goat selection as well as some very friendly Alpacas. I found the Carousel to be a real bargain at $1.50 per ride. I think I might have had more fun on it than the baby sitting next to me. There are boats to ride in the summer and ice to skate in the winter. It's enjoyable all year long. read more

Beautiful Park that isn't so large. We were just enjoying the lake and eating DiFara's Pizza (I know, how can I not?) and then we bumped into a couple of friends. It is so nice to bump into people in NYC. It always seems like such a massive big town that engulfs people and they disappear. Then, they are attracted to this lovely park: big enough for your own space and small enough to meet up. read more

I actually find Prospect Park to be a lot more tame then Central Park. Granted my feeling towards Prospect Park will be a bit bias since I'm a Park Sloper, but I do enjoy it better. The baseball fields are amazing at night, the small trails in the park seem endless, and there are so many hidden parts full of ease and quietness. Everything about this park is pretty magical. When it comes to the summer, there are the free concerts in the Prospect Park Bandshell (Celebrate Brooklyn), which are some of the best free concerts in NYC. I went to every concert last summer and enjoyed almost every one. It's a good place to kick it with some friends and listen to live music. Overall, I really love the park and all that it has to offer. If you are closer to Prospect then Central, consider Prospect for change. read more

We enjoy the park all year round. It's a great safe place to take the kids. My husband and I bike here with our kid almost every weekend when it's warm. read more

Much much better than Central Park! Less people, more nature for me! Advice: walk away from the big paths and get lost. It's worth it! read more

Love this park! It's so beautiful and well-maintained. Awesome place for a run/walk, a picnic, or just sitting around and relaxing.

Favorite spot in the entire city. The meadows with rolling hills remind me of the greenways in Tallahassee, which carry an intense nostalgic weight for me. Secret waterfalls, beautiful architecture, there is absolutely nothing about Prospect Park to dislike. Even on a beautifully sunny day it doesn't seem crowded (unlike Central Park). There's so much more than the park itself in the area also. With Grand Army Plaza and the Brooklyn Museum nearby, you could dedicate an entire day exploring the area and never get bored. You haven't lived until you've read under a tree in the shade and then fallen asleep here. read more

I would give Prospect Park 100 stars if I could. I love it. My hubster loves it, My daughter loves it. Rolling green grass, tons of trees, bike/walk paths, tennis courts, ball fields, boat rides, horseback riding, playgrounds, ice skating and of course the zoo, the carousel and the Prospect Lefferts House. And lets not forget the concerts at the bandshell? We have been to all types of concerts from classical to hip hop. Prospect Park is more than just a park. You can spend an entire day here on the weekend and have a million different experiences. A lot of peeps forget that the park goes beyond Park Slope/Prospect Height and into Flatbush. That's where the real fun begins. read more

It was sunny, warm, and breezy so i took my sisters dog for a walk here--it was my first time to the park as I just moved to Brooklyn in the Winter--and got lost. For two hours we roamed the giant park and I loved it! I've been starving for that walk all winter and can't wait to get there again as soon as possible. read more

Brooklyn's answer to central park. If you live in brooklyn live near the park on the F train. It's more accessible than central park whose boundaries are rich apartment buildings everywhere. The same guy who designed the world's greatest park also designed prospect park. I love spending an afternoon there whenever i am back in NYC eating some banh mi or falafel sandwiches taking in the views of people or simply strolling in the park. I have to spend more time exploring the park , but it's absolutely one of the many reasons why NYC is the greatest city in the world. read more

I almost considered not writing about Prospect Park, for fear of contributing to the hype and inspiring loads of people to come over across bridges, tunnels, suburban and foreign lands to check it out, therefore overcrowding the Park's verdant fields and hilly walkways. But since sharing is caring here on Yelp...DO visit the Park. it is so lovely there. I moved to Brooklyn for love, and now, everywhere I wander I find all these treasures to love throughout. Prospect Park is surely not a hidden treasure, but it pales in formal comparisons (both in size and reputation) to its big sister Central. I would like to formallly declare Prospect to be a better park: more manageable in scale; more authentically diverse (as in, a reflection of the people who live in the neighborhood versus tourists descending); a way better summer festival music. I am inspired to get a dog just to have yet another place to visit within Prospect Park's grounds. read more

This park splendor matches Central Park-a lot more relaxing and peaceful. It is also designed by Olmsted. Check out the botanical gardens, museum, breezy hill, and Lake. It's nice to just wander around in the many types of landscapes-woods, fields, lake. All it needs is a desert and sea and you would have it all. read more

Prospect Park - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I managed to trek there last week on a bike ride through Western Queens and parts of Brooklyn. I had actually mapped out a path that would take me from my apartment in Rego Park through Ridgewood and into Williamsburg and then down. It was a bit ambitious, so by the time I got to Prospect Park I was spent. Now I didn't go to experience the park, so the rest of this will ignore the park (which was quite striking in its simple beauty) and instead focus on my ride through the park. All I can say about the ride is WOW! I loved it. A few days before I had done Summer Streets with a friend and friend of a friend, this person was the one who clued me in to the bike path in Prospect Park (PP). Now Central Park (CP) on the Saturday I was there was fairly crowded, I expected it to be, but was also slightly challenging. The hills in CP were frequent and as I was trying to keep up with my friends friend, I was spent by the time we reached the Harlem Meer. When I rode through PP though, there were a few things that struck me. 1 - Although this was a weekday that I went, the roads into the park were closed to cars. This immediately made the ride a much more calming experience. 2 - While the park was crowded, especially with camps being there, the paths were not. I took my bike to the outside of the road, allowing joggers, walkers and rollerbladers the inside and just enjoyed the ride. 3 - The layout of the park. As opposed to CP which I felt began to climb as soon as you're near 72nd street, PP seemed to lie flat for most of the first part of the ride. In fact, I seem to remember going downhill once in the park. There were some hills to climb during the first part of the ride, but the hardest part of the ride was as I neared the exit by Grand Army Plaza. 4 - The path itself was smooth. I didn't have to worry about any rocks, or even pebbles interrupting my ride. 5 - This is shared with CP, it was shaded. By the time I got to the park I was looking for shade, I got in at the park. Because I only went to the park to ride the bike path, I'm not sure what else there is there (I know what there is, I just haven't experienced any of it yet, so I can't give 5 stars). I just wish it was closer for me to get to. It the context of the park as a place to ride my bike, Prospect Park crushes Forest Park and Flushing Meadow Park (The two closest to my place). read more

A wonderful park that I am incredibly thankful to live just a few blocks away from. Every time I come here, I discover something new that I've never seen before. It's an exceptionally well-kept park with lush lawns, plenty of trees, and various paths to walk/jog/bike on, leading you to the beautiful lake, the bandshell (which offers some great free concerts throughout the summer!), or even the Prospect Park Zoo...to name just a few things my favorite park has to offer. read more

Prospect Park is the one and only, is the best! Brooklyn is delightful. Talking about the park.......are there any serious runners around here? like, training for a race or marathon? I run by myself but is getting boring. Cheers! read more

What's special about the park is the elegance of the design and the easy spirit of those in the park. Prospect Park has an elegant long meadow when you enter from Grand Army Plaza. There are lots of groups of friends and large family picnics and barbecues. It is delightful to watch children's activities on weekends. A good 3 1/4 mike loop for walking or bike riding. Numbers of Citi Bike stations on the northern end of the park. On weekends and all week in the summer you can rent four seater biking carriages as well as funky bikes by the ice skating rink. Even when the rink is out of season there are fun activities for families. Saturdays and Sundays dogs can be off leashes before 9 a.m. makes it a delightful to see scores of dogs running freely and playfully. You really get the feeling that Prospect Park is a family and a community park, with all the communities that it abuts. read more

Although located in Brooklyn, Prospect Park is definitely an oasis! There is literally something for EVERYONE in Prospect Park. My only suggestion is to avoid the park park after dark. I was comfortable jogging through the park until one night after 9, some very "shady" characters began appearing. I highly recommend "sledding" the next time it snows and you're in the area. The hills aren't too steep, and it was overall a great experience! I would also recommend finding a quiet spot for a picnic one afternoon! I'm sure you'll appreciate this oasis as much as I do! read more

I love Prospect Park. I have my spots. But I don't like revealing them. I always do make a point of checking out the dogs in the duck wading pool. That was not a metaphor for anything. And when I am at my most saddest or most happiest I lay out like a dead sea otter in the middle of an empty field. You can also get lost in here. Easily. Which is incredibly appealing to me. I've also had some wonderful moments here since moving into Brooklyn several years ago. My roommate, when I had one, had this odd tradition of when either she was drunk or when we both were tipsy we would go for a walk. And it wouldn't just be a summer time stroll. Normally she would enthusiastically insist we go for a midnight jaunt, past the cemetery and over to the park. Sometimes while pretending to play Buffy, but only if I did the Druisilla voice. Long long story. We would get to the playground and she would easily hop over the fence even though the gate would usually be swinging open. Then she would shout for me to jump over the fence. Now, this is where it would get funny because I have/had zero upper body strength. I would back up and take a running leap and kind of throw myself at the fence, scramble and wiggle up and then throw myself over the top, of course while listening to howls of laughter. And then we would swing and swing away. Ah good times. Good memories. A place always in my heart. read more

BEST PLACE TO BE in Brooklyn on a sunny day.

On my way to look for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, I wandered around for a minute in Prospect Park. I love the fact that everywhere in New York, there is a place set aside for natural parks--where trees, plants, little critters like squirrels and birds and others depending on the park ecosystem-- can thrive in symbiosis with people who are there to appreciate them back. Great place to take family photos (I saw a proud family taking graduation pictures of their son), walk dogs, push baby strollers, take children for walks, relax, and just nature-drinking. This park has trails as well. I took the Q train to Prospect Park station to get here. Will post up pics soon. read more

A beautiful park in the Middle of Brooklyn - it is huge. It also has some sketchy areas - and I would NEVER walk thru it after dark. The homeless factor is pretty high. Also, too much litter. I wish people would pick up after themselves. Great events in the Summer. read more
