Came here for the first time this weekend. This park is super huge. On my way passing the bridge to crossover to the bike trail for the water view of the Verrazano bridge by the benches, and passed by a kiddie playground. It was such a peaceful vibe. Some people were exercising, some were fishing, some were just relaxing and enjoying the view. It was a nice walk, I definitely recommend you pay it a visit. read more

Beautiful Brooklyn park with spectacular views of the Verrazzano bridge and Staten Island. The Verrazzano bridge is impressive in its size and engineering. Growing up in New York, I think we kind of take it for granted but it's truly amazing. One interesting piece of trivia - the correct spelling for the bridge contains two Z's (named after Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano) but it was spelled with one Z for years. This was corrected in 2018 and required a bill to be signed by then governor Cuomo. A very relaxing and easy thing to enjoy is simply sitting on a bench and watching the large cargo boats and little tug boats traversing through the water on a nice day. The best part is it's free! And not very commercial, there are people who go there to fish, casting their lines off the waters edge. A calm and relaxed atmosphere, Shore Road Park offers a nice break from the busy city streets. Watch out for the occasional speeding moped and large waves - things can get a little wild out here. read more

Shore road has a little bit of everything--you'll catch people here doing various things like biking, jogging, at the basketball courts, fishing, playing tennis, etc.. I used to come here with a former mate, to sit at the pier at night, it's perfect for that. Nowadays, I only come here to walk and jog. It's nearby my home and not too over crowded, so I can walk or jog at a good pace. I would definitely recommend coming here for a casual date, to a great family day at the park and maybe even for some fishing with your buddies. This park has a little bit of everything and is a great choice, if you're seeking a park with many options. read more

My dad grew up in Brooklyn and says that in the 70's and 80's this was not at all a clean place to visit and was pretty sketchy. When I told him I walked the park during my visit to a friend in Bay Ridge he was pleasantly surprised on how much it's cleaned up. This is a pretty bustling walking trail that can be accessed from the neighborhoods above. I'm not sure how long the whole trail is but I walked from scenic view point near the Verrazano Bridge to the pier near the water treatment plant. If you walk south you get views of the NYC skyline and north, the bay and bridge. Either way you get some nice refreshing breezes and a great way to get some steps in. In the morning it seemed pretty safe with tons of people jogging, biking and walking. There are a few overpasses that help you safely cross over the Belt Parkway. If you want to vary your scenery you can walk the upper path that runs along the residential area for some shade and green space as part of any out and back you might want to do. I got in about 3 miles round trip and enjoyed seeing the Brooklyn and Manhattan waterfronts from a different point of view. Definitely not the park my dad remembers! read more

For 20+ years I've been fortunate enough to live near Shore Road Park in Brooklyn. It's a great area for bike riding, jogging, frisbee playing and even fishermen! For the ones who want to walk/jog the path, you have a fantastic view of the Verrazano Bridge, as well as downtown NYC if you go further down the path. There are also 4 tennis courts by the Verrazano Bridge next to the Belt Parkway at exit 2 and basketball courts further west. The bottom line is that it's a great park area to take a walk and just relax. On those warm days, the breeze comes in from the ocean and it really is a peaceful place to be. I highly recommend anyone to visit the area as it's just gorgeous. read more

This Brooklyn bike path from the pier at Bary Ridge Ave to Bay Parkway is one of the gems of Brooklyn.! The oneway distance is almost 5-miles. Excellent surface, smooth, scenic and well marked. Best time to ride is during the morning before the crowds. Parking available around the Owlhead Park streets or the park lots along Shore Parkway. read more

One of my favorite places in Brooklyn. There's a Beautiful view of the ocean, you get to smell the salt in the air as you run/jog/bike/ walk for miles. Older men are fishing along the path, smiling with sun weathered grins as they cast into the cold water. Biking is perfect in the fall, or summer. A slight breeze, the sun is shining overhead, you're exercising without much panting or sweating and there's a Wendy's at the end of the park for your caloric ice cream craving. If I lived closer, I would come everyday. There's something so soothing about the ocean. Ps- I swore I would never eat the fish caught from here, one day I found lunching with a friend and her family. The fish, marinated in pepper flakes, oil and salt were fried, crispy, spicy and so delicious. Her family generously sent us home with a box of marinated fishes. Never say never! read more

More comfortable than a Pillow Pet, this is a great park, even if you can't snuggle it at night! I come here during my long runs that take me through Park Slope, Sunset Park, over to Coney Island and back up Ocean Parkway. After dodging cars from 14th Street to 65th Street, I really enjoy the long stretch of uninterrupted pavement from Owl's Head Park to the Verrzano and then through Dyker Beach Park over to Bensonhurst Park. It can be cold in fall and spring, but in the summer there is us ally a nice breeze off the water. It's amazing to see all the ship traffic...cruise ships, container ships, tug boats, etc. Watch when the fishermen are casting so they don't hook you! Some things that would make it better....more shade during the summer and restrooms on the water side of the Belt Parkway. You can get baked out there and if you have to go while you're on the bike/running path, it's a hike to any comfort station. They are perfect for running up and down in big, long strides. There are at least 5 or 6 such staircases in Shore Road Park between the 69th St. Pier and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. read more

Ran the Verranzano 5K here and the views running along the water were terrific. Nice park and running paths along the water. Piers with picnic tables to hang out on. The Verranzano Bridge can be viewed on one side of the water while downtown Manhattan can be seen on the other. That's all I got for this one. I ran, got my medal, then headed back to Manhattan. Shore Road Park stretches in a long, narrow strip along Bay Ridge's coast, all the way from John Paul Jones Park (at the Verrazano Bridge) north to Owl's Head Park. It's a lovely, relaxing place to walk along and enjoy the views. It's not completely tranquil - after all, the Belt Parkway is still right there, separating you from the water. You're not going to forget that you're in an urban environment - but it's a really nice part of the urban environment. It's got a bike path, a few places to play sports (baseball, tennis), and it features the Narrows Botanical Garden (which I'm going to review separately). Well if you know anything about parks in NYC history in the 70s and 80s you be amazed at what you see today. I mean really back then glass was strewn everywhere,dog shit like crazy, used syringes in sand boxes and everybody scared for their life in the summer of 76 and 77.. Son of Sam was killing people at random. Now a days the parks are clean and nice. Lawns are mowed and your biggest problem is people walking aimlessly playing poke crap. I love the views of this park section. Also the trees add a nice cool breeze on sunny hot days. You can look across the narrows at Staten Island and watch ships enter and exit harbor. The only caveat is you have to be aware of bike riders that are on paths. Sidewalks are for walking and the roadway for bikes. But guees friggin assholes didnt get the memo. There are a lot of assholes on bikes that have no clue so be careful. Love the neighborhood and love the serenity it offers on a lazy summer day!! read more

Since I've had more recent opportunities to explore this on my bike, I've realized this park has a LOT to offer. Especially the portion closer to the Verazzano bridge. Tennis courts, hand ball courts, padded playground, and a nice path along it all, with amazing views of the bridge. Even a public restroom underneath the brick head house. Great place to sit out, or just grab a bench. This is slightly isolated from the highway noise of the bike path, so it's really a nice change. Cozy in the Fall. Thank you NYC parks dept. read more

Beautiful park! Too bad it is too cold to do too much. We went to Brooklyn and there is a Brooklyn based rehabilitation center that suggested this park as a park to rehabilitate in and they take their patients there. It is pretty big and only had one guy with 2 dogs and one bicyclist and us. And if you are used to NYC parks you know that never happens. It is usually wall to wall people. I am not a cold weather person at all but we were supposed to have spring like weather and then the temperature dropped suddenly. There were hills and walking paths and biking paths. But an article I read said there are collisions with bikers due to no repairs where they are needed. As a long time Bay Ridge resident and Shore Rd Park user, I just want to make clear that the area of the park that stretches from 4th Ave and 101st st to 93rd Street is not a dog park and does not have a dog run. While it's a beautiful park it's badly neglected. Over run with weeds and poison ivy. Also the bathrooms are not always open or clean. read more

Growing up in Bay Ridge this was our hang out spot. You take 75th street straight down to the park. Walking from bay ridge to Ceasars Bay was our idea of excersise back then, and it is still a nice exercise route. It's never really hot there because of the breeze. Ships passing by, and a clean pathway is great. Some people erroneously fish there; which I wouldn't advice due to wastewater treatment plant on 68th street. I mean when it rains you see human number two floating by, and the fish consume that water. Anyhow, back to the nice parts, in the evening the lights from the verrazano bridge make this location a romantic spot for couples to take an evening stroll. read more

As a cyclist in NYC, Shore Road Park is a great break from the grind of riding with traffic. I sometimes wonder if anyone north of 67th street knows this place exists. I don't care to tell them, because I enjoy riding through it free of any kind of traffic;pedestrian or cyclists! read more

This bike path is the best!!! It's approx. 5 miles one way, so ten if you do the whole thing. Sandy messed it up pretty bad in some places though! =( I know they'll fix it up, just more important things to attend to. read more

Its 58 acres but right at the beginning at 67th street there is a small piece of park which isn't open daily [i think from 8-12], but is an amazing oasis, small fishes and turtles and all native plants. All planted by the same fellow 13 years ago in 1996, whom i met there maintaining his baby [his name his on the gate], and he still takes care of his baby for 13 years now, very relaxing you'll forget you're brooklyn, [they have tours as well, try calling the parks number]. read more

My wife and I were visiting from Florida and we wanted to take in some of the neighborhoods. We ended up in Bay Ridge and we wanted to check out the trail under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. It was sort of hard to get to the actual park, and we didn't actually see any signs to get here, even though we could see the park from the street. We ended up having to cross into it through a section that was partially closed off to the west of the bridge. Once we got down, we walked a little along the water and took in some of the views of the bridge and Staten Island. Plenty of people were biking and running, and some were fishing. I could see myself taking a nice jog here, and making it part of my long run. There was some parking where we were and maybe that's how people got here. We took the subway here. Leaving, we walked about a 1/4 mile from where we entered and took a pathway over the highway into Bay Ridge and got to eat at one of the many restaurants along one of the avenues. read more

I ran a half marathon here, and I think it's just about perfect for that when the sun is out. The views of several different boroughs and cities, with the sea on one side and the surprisingly not distracting hum of a highway next to it. It is flat and goes for miles in a pleasant way. read more

So excited that our new place is directly across the street from Shore Road park! It's a great running and biking path and it's so peaceful because there are not that many people or traffic around. This park stretches the length of Shore Road from the Verrazano to 68th St pier and ferry. There are several staircases to go down to the park, where you can enjoy football games, free summer rock concerts, kiddie rides, and just lots of greenery to grab a suntan. My fave time is sunset when you can see spectacular views of the bridge against a salmon sky. read more

The park is close to where I live and the view of the ocean and the Verrazano bridge is just gorgeous! I have many photos of the bridge on my phone just from jogging down by the water, it's nice in those summer mornings while the sun is still rising to have that fresh ocean smell, but in the winter it's too cold to be over there! But you still see some people using the bike path in this cold, I love this park. The park is very convenient for me with my dog in the mornings, And I know people love to take photos down by the water. read more

From Manhattan, take the Q, transfer to the R on DeKalb Ave, get off at 86 st and take the B16 to 92 st. But the views and scenery make the trek worth it. read more
