I visit New York every year (except last year) and always go to Central Park which of course is amazing. But Central Park is crowded due to its higher profile. After visiting the Brooklyn museum today, I decided to walk the park and check it out. I went from the entrance at Grand Army Plaza to the north shore of Prospect Park Lake and back. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the park is and not nearly as crowded as Central Park. Definitely glad I made the trip to BKlyn and discovered this gym. read more

I love walking around prospect park. So many hidden gems. If you haven't already check out the sunken garden. It's got a lot less people and some nice shade. I also love going to the dog beach and watching the puppies swim. read more

I love this park. My dog experienced autumn leaves and winter snow for the first time here. I experienced chasing an adorable and insane pomeranian* after ducks in the lake for the first time here as well. Prospect Park is huge, with lots to do even if you don't have a little dog. From the zoo, to the farmer's market, to bicycling, horseback riding, people watching, concerts, picnics, sun basking... or my favorite, reading a book in the shade. * yeah, that would be my dog, and I love him :D read more

This park has so much personality and charm. Not as manicured as Central Park, but this is where New Yorkers come to enjoy the best of life.

I love this park. I especially enjoy how I can disappear in the woods and climb trees. As a martial artist this park is invaluable to me and the community. read more

Although my heart will always primarily belong to Central Park, born and bread on the Upper West Side, I have begun to fall for Prospect Park as well...but only when the weather is nice. It feels a lot less touched than Central Park, less paths, etc. but when the weather isn't great, it can show in the muddy paths. The lessened paths can also make it harder to navigate and find people to meet up with. It dos have amazing events and concerts, though. I don't work out so I can't speak to that aspect of it. I did go horseback riding once, and enjoyed that! read more

I love Prospect Park. It is one of those "you gotta come here at least once" type of places if you ever come to Brooklyn. It's Brooklyn's own version of Central Park. There are so many things that make this park amazing, ducks and geese following you around after you give them a little piece of bread; "street performers"; beautiful nature; and boat rides. Recently I also discovered that you can fish here. You can buy a seasonal license, or a daily license for $5 and fish all day long (though it is catch-and-release fishing.) But nonetheless really fun and relaxing. There are plenty of wide open spaces if you want to fly a kite, or play a little pick up game of soccer, or even just have a little picnic. Spring is an especially great time to come here as all the trees are blooming. read more

Hands down best park in NYC- period. You forget you're in a city and it has so many fun little hidden areas.

Esperanza Spalding is such an incredible performer. Her bass playing is outstanding and she's got the voice of an angel. Amazing backing band too. Go see her if you have the chance. You will not be sorry. read more

Brooklyn is the new thing, we all know it already, and Prospect Park is the heart of the new thing! A lot changed over the years, but one thing remain: The look of Prospect Park covered with white snow. Don't get me wrong, It is beautiful in all seasons, but when it is snow, and there is no one else there, it is gorgeous. Try it the next snow, you may find out that I am right. Pretty, big, green, water, you need to love it. read more

We need more parks in the 5 boroughs. And prospect park is the coolest park from all the parks in Nyc (yes, that include Central Park!). Events, great jogging lanes, beautiful in the winter when it is snowing, the summer the fall and the spring. Green parks like that put you in proportions, and for a little while you forget that you are in one of the most populated cities in the US. I hope that the day when the city decide to build over the park will never arrive. And if it will, we should all have something to say about it. Love it. read more

I live 4 blocks from the park, and though I didn't even know where it was when we first moved to Brooklyn, it has become my favorite place in the entire city. I am an avid bicyclist, so the round-the-park bike/rollerblade/walking path is a magnet to me in all but the coldest weather. I also have a brand new puppy, and I cant wait to bring her there to play when it gets a bit warmer. The summer concerts are awesome (saw Broken Social Scene there last summer). I feel lucky to live so close to this place. read more

We came for a picnic when we visited in the city. Some parts of the park, where we wanted to sit and eat, were filthy and uncared for. It was very disappointing. In the end we found a nice area that was much more pleasant and did our picnic there. read more

I moved to Brooklyn from out West and ended up in an apartment half a block from Prospect Park. But here's the strange thing... I never ventured in for many months. I walked along it. I walked around most of it. I was a steady at the farmers market on Saturdays. All perimeter stuff. For some reason, I never wanted to dive in before having a better idea of what i was jumping into. Not out of fear. Rather, I knew it was a gem and wanted to plot the best possible course for discovery. Likewise, I didn't want that experience to be so great that subsequent visits were lacking luster. In retrospect, that's like not fucking your lover because it might alter your pure views of their potential. Total bullshit. It's a park and should be enjoyed. You can jump in for 10 minutes or 10 hours. Unlike your hopeful lover, the park doesn't give a crap about what you think or want to experience. It's simply there. And it's there to daily, serving all sorts of people... Joggers, runners, bikers, walkers, nannies, people with dogs who need to shit. Dogs with people who need to shit. Horse riders, bird watchers, fishermen and flag footballmen. Soccer players, softballs teams and old men sitting on benches, happy to scratch their balls. In the warm months, people from every part of the world gather to cook up amazing meals over coals. The summer concerts are amazing. The history is also very cool, though 98% of the people never stop to read the markers that help define how the USA became the USA. This is the park where the U.S. got their ass kicked by the British n 1776. If it weren't for the Maryland regiment, we'd all be talking about pounds (for money) and stone (for weight). The duo who built Central Park also built this, but wanted to make it more authentic to the rural experience. They did and it shows. It's a brilliant park and - unlike me - you should dive right in. read more

Have been going to Prospect Park for many many years... practically my entire life.... There is so much to do in this park.. your usual running... jogging...walking...strolling... lakes...sitting under trees....climbing trees (yes I do...sort of...hehe)..counting ducks with your friend's kids.... free or by donation concerts under the bandshell ( I always donate).... festivals....african drumming.... soccer matches....family picnics.. the Farmers Market every saturday at the Grand Army Plaza entrance.....people watching... finding the waterfalls....walking thru tunnels....tree watching... tree hugging... (yes I hug them..lol)....taking pics....or hiking on off beaten trails..... it's all here..... Its the kind of place that you can just come to...and figure it out as you go along.... and in my opinion...is way better than stuffy Central Park... plus we have the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens nearby..so you can make a day of it.... have some West Indian food for lunch...if you go north on Flatbush Avenue...or head south towards downtown brooklyn....for Park Slope restaraunts and an assortment further down flatbush ave if you wish...or even down to brooklyn heights....whatever floats your boat.... You're really in the center of it all....so its up to you to make the day.... read more

Ok, I'm hopping on the bandwagon. This park is actually one of the main reason I like and want to stay in Brooklyn. This product of the designers of Central Park is a great place for me to take a jog when I'm feeling the need to escape the frenetic pace of NY life. In that jog I usually pass great spacious lawns, horseback riders, a lake, African drum beats, marching band music (I'm confused about that one but I gave up questioning it), a petting zoo. On the weekends, there's also a farmer's market by the northern entrance. I've been to free concerts and operas here too. The annual cherry blossom festival is also something worth checking out. I could wander around aimlessly for hours if I wasn't so anal about time. In any case, reading all these other reviews, I'm preaching to the choir. read more

If you ever make it to Brooklyn, Prospect Park is a must place to visit. Every season is beautiful. It is really a huge park and so many places to discover. I have visited several times and captured wonderful moments in every season. Highly recommended to all nature lovers. read more

My favorite park. It has everything. Road around is a little over 3 miles. Pond has ducks and geese and swans, and paddleboating when it's warm. Has ice skating, newly renovated, a zoo and a carousel. Has open fields for playing, a huge dog run, and playgrounds. Has the bandshell for some pretty bigname concerts in the summer. Take the F to seventh avenue or fifteenth street, or the one to grand army plaza, and it's walkable from other trains that stop on Flatbush. read more

Certainly a great addition to bring Brooklyn. However I went alone on a summer afternoon and got quite lost. I was in deep woods going in circles. Maybe once you learn the layout feel more safe. Important to enter at correct gate. Charged cell phone a must although gps was not much help. Family of swans was enchanting. Activity on paved roads provided great people watching. read more

What more can I add to what all these hundreds of thorough Yelp reviews? Probably not a lot, but I'm tired of Prospect Park popping up in my "C'mon and review this already" list. Beautiful parkland that rivals Central Park in both beauty and amenities. Both are so big you'd never know Central is larger, and Prospect Park has the added bonus of not being a tourist trap. Great outer loop for biking and flat surface running as well as a ton of inner trails for the more rugged terrain types. The only real pit-stop area is the Field House, which is toward the center of the park, but there are a few restrooms scattered near the entrances as well as the Boathouse in warmer seasons. Lots of open grassland as well as designated picnic and BBQing areas. What can I say, I'm lucky to live so close to it! read more

Jeremy had his birthday party here and we all had a fantastic time. Great selection of grass!

What an amazing place to see a great band! Usually parks after dark freak me out, growing up near woods with crazy ass stories of horrible things happening, you tend to run the other way at the sight of multiple trees at night. But walking about a mile in Prospect (parking sucks) was a great little experience. The path we choose was close enough to the main street (so we didn't feel like we going to be abducted), but far enough away to still get the whole "woodsy" feel. Once we got to the stage area there was a huge hill over looking the stage that you could hang out on since seats were limited. Very relaxed, clean and welcoming in there. The Stills put on a great show and it was a perfect way to spend a perfect summer night. The ice cream man at the exit of the park was an extra plus too. Yummmyy! Definitely need to come back here during the day, to really explore this place to the fullest. Sky* read more

I live this park for the 5k circumference, the ampitheatre, the BBQ pits, the various community gatherings, the farmers market, the paddle boats, the pickup soccer games in the summer, the local baseball/softball league games, the nethermead (for my dog)... and every other reason that you can think of that I've failed to mention. read more

Hot damn, I love Prospect Park!!! I'm lucky enough to live near the park so my man, dog and I take advantage as much as possible. My favorite park activity is strapping on the dog's backpack and going for a crazy long hike around the park. My pit-mix w/an unknown past normally gets pissy w/other dogs. But she could give a crap about dogs when she is at Prospect Park. It's pretty fabulous. I love the variety of terrain...hills, trees, lakes, meadows, paved paths, steps, bridges. No trip is ever the same. The park is definitely one of my favorite things about living in Brooklyn! read more

The Brooklyn Wilderness Amidst the sea Of brownstones. Big thank you Tupper Thomas. read more

I went to High School 5 blocks away from this majestic Gem of Olmsted and Vaux and grew to love this place. It's true woods, horse trails through pre-existing wilderness that was never cut down, with rolling meadows and two natural ponds. Prospect Park has bike lanes, skate paths, jogging and hiking paths for all to enjoy that make the complete loop around, as well as trails in the backwoods for hiking, horse riding and even letting your dog just shit in real dirt! The Southern woods are very secluded (sometimes too secluded, don't walk in alone at night, please!) and my old spot's on a hill at the highest natural point in Brooklyn. You can see boys rolling up on every direction and, unlike central park, you're not in the Center of Medina. People don't really bother you here. People from Brooklyn aren't bitch, we don't snitch. As long as you're not smoking crack with a child under the bridge or raping a jogger, I don't give a damn. Prospect Park West was completely re-configured, cutting a whole lane of traffic to make a bike-only lane with a physical barrier between cyclists and my whip. Also one of BK's craziest skate tracks for the brave is Prospect Park Southwest, the entire thing is a natural curve downhill and brings you from Park Slope to Ditmas park without more than half a push off your board. Seriously be careful you get some crazy speed, I would NOT do that on a longboard! read more

Wonderful park in Brooklyn that has some of the nice aspects of Central Park without the rampaging crowds and tourists. It's very easy to find a quiet sedate corner here. There are tons of benches around and great paths for biking and running. There is even a small dog pond area for swimming. The forest here has a waterfall and is the largest forest in Brooklyn.
