This is a nice park in Brooklyn that I often visit during the spring and summer months when in the Williamsburg area. It has multiple recreational spaces which include a pool and can be a great place to take a short walk. On the downside, I often see rats running throughout this park so keep an eye out, especially at night! read more

When my big bro texted me asking me if I wanted to walk the track with him at McCarren Park, I was confused. My internal dialogue went something like: "Why would I want to walk in circles on a track when we could just walk through the streets of the greatest city in the world?" However, I got humbled quick. A track walk is so underrated. You really don't have to keep your head on a swivel, you can talk on the phone without the constant honks or crackheads screaming, and it's fantastic people watching. Big bro and I were walking around this track on a Saturday at 10:06am while a SERIOUS mens soccer league game was going on, having a great conversation about life, love, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The NYC skyline would pop out in the background as we rounded a certain section, just an inspiring view. I still pinch myself that I am lucky enough to live here. Something about a nice walk on a hot day gets me so much more inspired than sitting at a desk trying to lock in. I think a good sweat solves 95% of my problems. I had a lovely stroll through McCarren Park With my boyfriend, we both admired the blooming cherry blossoms and pleasant atmosphere. That day was a bit chilly and windy. I'm glad we were able to capture some pictures of the blossoms, even though it's not peak season yet. This park has a running/walking track, playgrounds, and sports fields. I can imagine this will be a nice park to picnic in when the weather gets warmer. read more

I don't really know how to submit a review for just the cafe in McCarren Park because it doesn't show up on here yet, but... They have an ice cream section, a coffee shop section and a food section with various sandwiches and snack items. The food is pretty decent with a couple inventive vegetarian options. It's not the most expensive thing I've eaten in New York, but it's not cheap! The fried cauliflower sandwich could have used more flavor but it was very filling. I got a seasonal latte from the blank street coffee that was good. The ambiance is stunning! Lots of back patio seating surrounded by park. One of my all time favorite spots in the city...for a walk with a friend, for a summer run, to people watch, to take a phone call, to rejuvenate my soul! McCarren is great for any and all people/groups. I will always be grateful for this green space within arms reach. They have a full track, soccer field, tennis courts, etc., everything! There are a ton of cute trendy restaurants and cafes within proximity. In the summer, let's not forget that the rec center also has the pool open! I have memories dating back decades in this park that unofficially marks the break between north Williamsburg and Greenpoint, arguably one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city. When the weather's nice the park comes to life, with kids playing softball, people having picnic or sunbathing dotting the periphery of the park where all the benches and grass are. The park is such a popular passage through northern Brooklyn that I avoid it when I'm trying not to run into too many people I know, because inevitably I will have to stop for small talk if I find myself here on a nice day. Whether it's watching the ongoings of the softball fields, ogling at the puppies in the dog park, or luxuriating in the grass, McCarren and I will cross paths often for many years to come. read more

When I used to live nearby I would come here all the time. Now a days I come here to play basketball or meet some friends for planned picnics/hangouts at nearby bars. There's always tons of people being active, playing frisbee, running on the track, baseball, doing yoga, etc. It's also a great place for people watching!! This park is a gem in the neighborhood. It gets very crowded, but has a nice community feel. Tons of dogs and millenials, but it attracts a diverse crowd. A lively baseball game was taking place on a Saturday when I walked by, as well as a tai chi class. A big park in northern Brooklyn. It has lots of jogging and walking paths. There's several good play areas for kids. It's located by some good bars and restaurants. The bad thing is it's crowded and all the dog shit. It seems everyone wants to be here. Overall the park is safe. There are too many people though. Especially when the weather is good. They all bring their dogs and let them shit everywhere and not pick it up. A lot of things to do around here. There is a skate park along Lorimer. It's maintained in some areas. I didn't have the pleasure of walking around the area. But I did sit outside on a bench for a break. Area was crowded with children and nanny. But they were so busy with talking they didn't pay attention to their strollers. Park seem to be safe. I only saw one homeless person. But they stayed to themselves. This is a large park in Brooklyn with every sport imaginable being played there on a Saturday afternoon. It's a little tricky to find, but just a 10 minute walk from the Bedford stop of the L. There are places to walk your dog, or just watch the dogs playing if you don't have a dog yourself. There is a bathroom, but the doors don't close, and there is no toilet paper. Also, there are softball fields. Unfortunately, the park has created an obstacle course to get to them. I feel like every week I'm on an episode of Double Dare, and taking some sort of physical challenge to go to the fields. People in the park have bent and twisted locked gates and walked on top of them. So, now they are laying down on the ground at a 45 degree angle. But, if you're daring enough to catapult over the gate, and then move on to the double locked (but bent) metal gates, with a small crevice that if you're under 150lbs you should be able to get down on the ground and squeeze through the base, capture the flag... And what do they win, Bob?? Ugh. So frustrating and dangerous. Dear McCarren Park, just unlock the gate! The fields themselves are decently maintained, but with just a little common sense this could be such a nice place to go. read more

Sometimes it's hard to feel a sense of community while living in Williamsburg these days, as it's clearly gentrifying super quickly and often filled with tourists and others from out of the area. But don't worry: locals do exist and there's no better way to be immersed in them than by taking a walk to McCarren Park on a nice day. You'll see kids' leagues playing baseball, people jogging with their dogs, parents strolling their babies, yoga groups, and people just lying on blankets and hanging out. Though it definitely gets crowded on warm days, there's always a patch of grass (or dirt/grass) to claim if you don't mind being in cozy quarters. It's a chill vibe with everyone just letting everyone else do their thing. Sure, it gets a little messy/dirty after these busy days but that's not the park's fault. Everyone should be leaving it better than they found it! You might be in trouble if you try to use the women's room on warm days as the line snakes out the tiny little building, so you might be better off wandering into Greenpoint and buying a coffee from a café then using one of theirs. It's no Central or Prospect, but this park is a lovely oasis amid the hustle and bustle of Williamsburg and I'm very grateful for it! read more

McCarren Park is a great active park. There are always people there for its pathways for bicyclists/walkers/runners/pet-walking, and fields for a plethora of sports. You name it - soccer, basketball, football, tennis. Even bocce and hipster kickball. There's also the pool and play center. It's a large park. I guess that's why it's not well-maintained; just too much ground to cover. Before laying down a blanket for a picnic or nap, look out for sharp objects and dog poop. This park is so Brooklyn. And I get to say that since I was born and raised here. It reminds me of highland park near where I grow up in east New York. It's kinda big, kinda dirty (although highland park is looking pretty good these days...watch out McCarren!) and you never know what you're going to step on (or in : | Speaking of, what's up with those bathrooms? I honesty think rikers' bathrooms are cleaner, if not more pleasant. As a native Brooklyn girl, I was prepared with tissues and hand sanitizer so it wasn't too scarring but wow...I've seen a lot of bathrooms (including a much cleaner and more brightly lit hole in the floor in a restaurant in Seoul, Korea) and this really ranks up there for uncomfortable bathroom experiences for me. But that's part of the charm of the park , right?!? Also, there are a lot of concerts here, so that's cool. (Maybe that's why the bathrooms look so bad?) read more

It's a nice park but could really be better. It's quite large for a park in Brooklyn and there's the part with lots of area for sports and some other parts that are broken up here and there. Quite a few skaters there and some family picnics. Lots of kids and quite a few dogs. The cherry blossom during the spring time is nice and grass is quite green for the most part. Some parts are completely bare and dirty though, but that just need some maintenance so not a big deal. Better for kids and family or seniors but not the best spot for dogs because there's really not much to walk. Unless you are looking for a decent park and only a short walk then it's fine. read more

Quite the large green space in the middle of Brooklyn. As I was traversing Williamsburg to get to the subway, I got to see all the children out of school, some pickup games and lots of dog walking. Once I got to the edge of the northeast corner however there was a guy just passed on the sidewalk. Before I could evaluate the situation the FDNY showed up and got the guy up and out. This is a good summer park. It is not that large but is the best one in the Williamsburg area (which means it's full of hipsters). They have a lot of festivals and concerts here at that time. Large outdoor space for setting up many tents. There is also a pool. I have not been myself but it looked very crowded. read more

Williamsburg's mega park. This park hosts a pool, playground, basketball court, soccer field, handball courts, track, dog park and plenty of green space. Generally well maintained, the parks dept is constantly walking around picking up trash. My family has gone pumpkin picking here, swam here many times during the summer, played in the playground countless times. We love this park. It's a great park for families to come and relax & play. Huge playground area which is great for the many kids in the community. Easy for you to lose sight of your kid(s) in the playground area when there is a lot of kids. I especially love the separate little water park with multiple sprinklers in addition to the sprinkler system in the middle of the park. Fun park and great for people/kids with tons of energy. Lots of things to do, lots of people to meet. read more

Nice clean and safe park with lots to do for the kids and grown ups. Nestle here giving out protein milk shakes and vitamin water here as well so events seem to be happening at random. Friendly wild life and plenty of parking tennis soft ball playgrounds and much more. Also bike friendly great for picnics. Watch out for the mosquitoes !!!!! read more

My review on McCarren Park unfortunately it is terrible. Every day when you go there, there are many walking their dogs. The dogs are pooping and urinating in the grass by the track and elsewhere. You have people enjoying themselves exercising, utilizing the track, and kids playing, and moms and dads with babies sitting in that discusting grass where dogs have pooped and urinated just sickens me. The people do pick up after their dogs but as you walk around the park you smell poop. I cannot see how these children are crawling in the grass people are laying down in the grass. I feel something should be done with that. it's a beautiful park it's well utilized but unfortunately it really is making me sick to see this happening. The people with the dogs would probably say if you don't like it, stay away! I say adults and children should not have to sit in shit and piss. As for me I now walk on outer part of the park, outside the fence. Very Sad there are no rules or penalties. read more

This is a very lovely park in BK. Not very small, although not very large either. A very nice fit for the neighborhood. It seems to be kept up pretty well, and has different activities inside with a lot of cafes bordering it on all sides. I met my Meetup bicycling group here so I didn't stay for long as we departed fairly quickly but Miss Sarit and I did have the pleasure of touring it a little bit. read more
