    Beautiful green grass.

This place takes me back. My parents bought me here as a child, I can still feel the wind moving past my face as my father pushed me in the swings and I have vivid memories dancing on the stage throughout the amphitheater with my friends as a teenager. Wow what great memories! Von King Park once known as Tompkins Park hasn't changed much, however there is now a new dog park that is popular among dog owners and a well manicured baseball diamond is home to a local little league baseball team. I really enjoy the community feel of this park, this is Bed-Stuy. There is am amphitheater and the cultural arts center, there is only one half court basketball court and handball courts in the park. Benches and tables for checkers and chess are lined through the various paths for your convenience throughout the park and there's a small garden at one of the entrances. This park is surrounded by tall trees, cool shade on warm summer days, and pristine historical brownstones. Come visit and make your own memories.

I loved my experience at this park. It was, by no means, remotely close to the physical quality of a Central Park or Prospect, but there was a beautiful sense of community here that was special. My friend organized a great kickball game that brought people together and there just happened to be a really big cookout going on right next to us with great tunes playing, along with some pop up shops happening as well, all contributing to such great wholesome vibes.

After the COVID-19 pandemic began and I moved to northern Bedford-Stuyvesant, I've been trying to find more ways that my partner and I can get outdoors. We purchased longboards and started scouring the internet for more to do outdoors. Herbert Von King Park is nearby our new apartment building and we frequently visit it due to its proximity, size, and various activities that take place! We attended Meditating for Black Lives a blm meditation session for the last month and are planning on attending Sunday reiki sessions! HVKP is the perfect place in Bed-Stuy to get some fresh air and feel connected!

This dog park has improved a great deal from last year. They recently got a new secure gate at the entrance, which is a major step in the right direction. I like that the park has 2 sides, so if someone wants to focus on fetch with their dog they can hang out on the opposite side. This second side is also good if you have a dog that doesn't get along well with others. Both of my dogs always have a great time here. There are a lot of benches, shady spots, and water bowls. There is no direct running water in the dog area but plenty of water fountains in the park itself. Usually in the summer I bring a water bottle and fill up the silver bowls that are left in the dog park. All of the dog owners that I have encountered are responsible and the dogs well behaved.

I attended "Everyday People" at the Herbert Von King Park amphitheater and it was the perfect venue to accommodate dance performances and a DJ. The crowd had a great vibe and I look forward to attending other events there. However, once the sun set, the lighting in the park was poor and I felt like there was a mad rush to leave. There needs to be more working lamp posts. More lighting would increase park goers sense of safety after dark.

I really enjoyed this park and so did much puppy Tonka. It was super clean and there were even staff there cleaning up the leaves . We walked around the whole park to get a feel for the different areas . The dog runs are fairly large which is great. They are dirt & wood chips so keep that in mind if you have a white pup !!! There are plenty of benches, a play ground & stage set up. I think it's a great park for the neighbourhood. There is plenty of street parking around the whole park. Loved it, we will definitely be back.

A great play space for city dogs of all shapes and sizes! Could be cleaner, but with a little community support a lot of progress could be made.

This part of the park is better as it has grass and tress. The field is really big and separate from the playground. This is a good detail because it can actually be peaceful on this side. They field tends to be pretty clean because it's also a bbq free zone :)

The Scene: Gathered in the meadow area of Prospect Park, roughly 12 people are loafing around as their canine companions gallop and trot in circles, entertaining themselves in ways that only dogs know how. A quaint, well groomed Maltese named Delila has strayed from the pack. Although in no immediate danger, Delila has caught the eye of a rambunctious young Boxer named Baxter. Baxter has been subject of controversial ramblings withing the dog run community, mostly from owners of small dogs, who feel that his status as an un-neutered, large dog poses a threat to their pooches. In the blink of an eye, Baxter takes off and slides in behind a startled Delila. Like a true pro, Baxter dislodges his lipstick from its case, mounts Delila, and launches into a series of rhythmic hip thrusts. The petite Maltese lets a little yelp, which loosely translates to : "Make this happen, Big Daddy, make this happen!" This impromptu episode of canine copulation alarms some nearby dog parents, who immediately spring into action, prying the mischievous mutts apart. As he is being dragged away, Baxter stares down at the grass forlornly, knowing that he was only seconds away from Milking the Bone. Two different dog owners agree to guard Delila and Baxter while their respective owners meet underneath "The Understanding Tree" to discuss what has just transpired. Baxter's master is Jacob, a 29 year old investment banker who finds new music by plugging in Arcade Fire on Amazon.Com and finding out what other users purchased. Audrey, doting dog mother to Delila, is a 32 year old, Harvard educated attorney who puts in 80+ hours a week at a well known white shoe law firm in midtown Manhattan. By all accounts, the dog run IS her social life, albeit a small one at that. With their dogs safely apart, Jacob and Audrey delve into a analysis of Baxter's play for Delila: Audrey: I think Delila was leaving the dog circle to have some alone time Jacob: Baxter sensed she was in danger, so he was attempting to draw her back in. Audrey: Draw her back in...doggy style? Jacob: Baxter would never harm Delila! Audrey: If I understand the manner in which he was panting, I suppose Baxter was trying to communicate his anxiety and fears over the potential loss of Delila to the rest of the group. And the way he moped and frowned when we pulled them apart...he was sad because he feared that Delila still might be in danger. Jacob: That's what I'm telling you, Audrey. *Audrey and Jacob hug as the remainder of the dog run parents erupt into applause.* What most of the dog run parents fail to realize is that Baxter was just trying to get laid. In fact, if the dog run parents followed Baxter's example and tried to get laid themselves, they would likely spend fewer hours at the dog run assembling a master's thesis on Canine Psychology. In some alternate universe, the dogs are running the show, and they bring the people to the people run, and talk about real dog stuff. Jack Russel: Dude, did you smell that Bichon Frise ass over on Garfield Place this morning? That was off the hook! Dobie Pincher: Was it rubbed up against the fire hydrant near the corner of 7th??? Jack Russel: That's the one! Dobie Pincher: I KNOW her man...that's the crazy thing. I saw her once at the people run...with no human! Scotty Dog: What kinda a broad comes to the people run with no people? Dobie: Same kind that rubs her ass on every street lamp between here and 12th Street. *laughs* Scotty: Here comes Bull Dog. Bully: Hey boys...wanna get together and play poker later? Dobie: Poker? What does this look like? A painting? *laughs* Bully: Kiss my ass, Dobie! Dobie: Not my type, tubby! Jack Russel: Yo Scotty. Your human is following that chick behind the tree over there. Scotty: That's cool. He definitely needs to get laid.

It fact, "It was used by the Continental Army in 1776 as a lookout point, which at that time offered strategic views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, New York harbor, a portion of New Jersey, Staten Island, and Long Island"[1]. Mount Prospect Park has something to offer for everyone: - If you have a dog, this is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs enjoying the large grassy area at the center. Keep in mind that the area is completely open. There are specific off-leash hours, and I found all dog owners who come to the park to be friendly and respectful. - If you like to run, there is a running route that goes all around the park, mainly shaded by wonderful tree, that covers 0.22 miles/0.36 km[2]. There are also some stairs that lead to the highest point in the park, that are also good for exercising. Another set of (steeper) stairs is near the second access point near the Brooklyn Public Library. - If you have young kids, there is a playground with two jungle gyms separated by a sprinklers area, plus an enclosed area with swings, and six concrete small tables with benches. There are a lot of mosquitoes, particularly tiger mosquitoes i.e. the ones that are active during the day, in the area near the benches around the fence. The main entrance by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden has no stairs, and its gentle incline is perfect if you have a stroller or bike. - If you have older kids, I have seen soccer games and other team sports (baseball, freesbee, etc...) or training sessions take place in the lawn at the center of the park. Keep in mind that the area is not completely covered in grass, and it can get dusty. The park seems to be generally understaffed (hence 4 stars instead of 5). The trash cans are not emptied daily, and the hours at which sprinklers are on during the summer, or when restrooms are open, seem to be totally random. While I find the dog owners and runners very respectful, some of the people who have birthday parties or other celebrations here tend to leave a lot of trash behind. Which is a shame, as this park is generally quiet, much less busy than nearby Prospect Park, and generally a great place to just relax and unwind. ----------------------- [1] https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/mount-prospect-park/history [2] https://www.plotaroute.com/route/723847

Looked more like a museum or some nice walkway to enjoy sightseeing of the Williamsburg bridge and the lower east side views of Manhattan, which is not that spectacular in my opinion because there are too many government buildings in that section so it's all brown over on the Manhattan side. Oh wells. Other than that, I'm shocked to see nice bathrooms a block away from the park for Domino Park guests! The bathrooms were really nice and modern! Each bathroom had dimmed lighting with a baby diaper changing station. One of the bathrooms was dirty with pee on the floor so I had to go to another one. Did not expect these nice bathrooms to get dirty like that! There were more bathrooms downstairs besides the ones on the first floor. The door to the bathrooms was very nice too! What a great job they did to this park. I cannot believe the Domino sugar factory still exists or is standing because I used to take the train and they be doing construction for many years for I don't know what reason. Looked like they turn downstairs into this nice modern park. So I went to the park to go to a Target pop up and got some nice freebies. There was enough space for pop ups and large crowds. Need to check out the rest of the park next time I'm here. Too bad there is no subway or trains going to this park and you need to resort to buses that take forever to arrive.
