Manhattan has Central Park, Queens has Flushing Meadows, and Brooklyn has Prospect Park. I don't know if I would say this is the best of the three but it definitely has a lot of beautiful aspects to it. The park is very well kept and has a lot going for it. You can go horseback riding here, watch a little league game, go for a nice walk in the woods, feed a number of ducks and swans, even take your dog to a designated doggy swimming area. The park is borded by the beautiful Park Slope to the west and houses the fantastic Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanical Garden to the north. Theres definitely a lot to do here and it's a beautiful park to go for a bike ride or anything else you'd want to do. read more

This is the best park in NYC! Yes, better than Central Park in a lot of ways. It has: 1. Newly renovated skating rink 2. Bike/run/walk lane that is not congested at all 3. Food trucks in the summer, including Googamooga 4. Many kid playgrounds 5. Lakes with ducks, swans, etc! 6. Rowboating 7. Hiking trails 8. Off leash for dogs with a dog beach! 9. Barbeque areas 10. a ZOO 11. Brooklyn Botanical Garden 12. Horseback riding, not horse carriages (no stinky smells in the summer) 13. Farmer's Market at Grand Army Plaza 14. Parking around the park! 15. Baseball fields ALL WITHOUT TOURISTS! read more

Hey and it's free . So go grab your bike dust it off and go for a ride ! You only live once! read more

Prospect Park - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Review #1 in my process of reviewing all of the places I already reviewed before I deleted my old account. *sigh* The idea of reviewing trees, hills, sky, ponds, and grass is slightly silly to me. Yes, they keep it up nice, the design is nice. Good on them. But what is great about Prospect Park is that it exists. It catches the seasons beautifully. Damp skin sticking to the grass in the summer. Teenagers making out leaning on their backpacks in the spring. Those damn picturesque winter snowscapes that make a native Californian feel like at least some of what they show in movies about real winter is true. I feel it is unnecessary to reiterate the beauty of New York in the autumn. Done to death. Whenever the weather is okay and I need somewhere to go where I can brood in public (sometimes I gotta brood in public) I take something to read and ignore the words on the page. It all gets clearer. Also, dude that designed Central Park and Prospect Park preferred the latter. Suck it Manhattan. read more

I wish I were basking in New York City sunshine right NOW... especially that of my favorite borough ...Brooklyn. I love that one of my nearest and dearest friends lives stumbling distance from Prospect Park... Of course you wouldn't want to stumble once the sun hits the horizon... especially if you've seen as many episodes of Law & Order as I have...but if, like me, your heart belongs to the concrete jungle that is NYC, (even if only for a weekend or two a year...my sweet home away from home) ...every once in a while you have to step into that space of nature to breathe deep an air that quiets the city streets a few hundred or so feet away. read more

I use prospect park mostly as a place to run. It has a great, scenic 5k loop, plus a lot of trails that are more through the woods. Good sledding hills in winter, and the Lefrak center is nice for rollerskating and ice skating read more

A lot of homeless and drug addict people wandering in the park. Otherwise it is (was) a nice place.

6.1 Mile long park. Bike trails, running trail, playgrounds, sprinklers, duck ponds.. 4 Hrs later, I've got a gnarly blister that's wrapped up with gauge, and neosporin right now. Note to self, wear correct sneakers next time round. read more

I've made so many memories in this park..From family BBQs to school trips to dates to my first swim in the pond (More like my first near drowning! I was called Swamp Girl for sum time after..Thanks Dad!) Plenty of large grassy areas, grills and picnic benches throughout..A great park for any occasion :-D read more

A history of Prospect Park. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/06/nyregion/06tupper.html Most on Yelp probably do not know Prospect Park was once a feared place that nobody in their right mind would walk through at any time of day or night. I lived there during that time. I lived in Park Slope before it became what it is today. http://www.heresparkslope.com/thenandnowthursday The Prospect Park Zoo closed in 1988 and reopened in 1993. Prospect Park was designed by the same people (Frederick Olmsted and Calvert Vaux) who designed Central Park in Manhattan. http://www.citysightsny.com/page.php?id=106 A history of Prospect Park. http://lalh.org/new/tupper-thomas-prospect-park-brooklyn-ny/ There are bus tours that go to Prospect Park now. http://www.citysightsny.com/page.php?id=106 It is not even the same place any more. Beautiful park, my first time here. I only saw a small stretch of the park but it was relaxing, mellow, and so peaceful today. I noticed the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens on the other side, there's a Children's Zoo, and Lefferts Historical House! The park inside is very broad, spacious, I walked past trees, grass, short treks, a pond, all the way to the ball fields. The weather today was overcast and lovely. I really enjoyed it. We had a picnic under a tree, above the field, where some shirtless male frisbee players were running around. What a view! read more

Definitely the best park in New York City. On par, if not better than Central Park, so many things to do here. Just a lovely place everyday of the year in any season. read more

My advice. Don't assume if you havent been there or met its people. Dont say we dont deserve anything because we are on the south. We are worth millions. We are perfection. Hjust a little uninformed. But her we got to gind out that i moved here before all the turtles died . Thank god i came and now i will save them a walk. read more

What's not to love? It's prospect park! Being able to access it quite easily has been an experience in addition to taking my dog there for off-leash is one of the highlights for me. Also enjoy the workouts I get done there! It's my own not so private backyard. read more

I'm so happy I live so close to the park. Great scenery, a farmer's market on Saturdays (Grand Army Plaza) and on Wednesdays (Bartel Pritchard Square). Also if you're into running, the 3.33 mile look within the park is challenging but great for training. If you feel like exploring, walk off the main pathways, and explore what feels like a forest (ok it is one) in the middle of Brooklyn. Someone told me about the waterfalls and on the way back from a 10 miler, I found it! read more

Oh, Prospect Park, you're a beaut! Aside from the drunk dude pissing on a tree in full daylight at 4 in the afternoon. Ah, city life! Anyway, I attended my dear former coworker's wedding at the park's Grecian Pavilion and it was just pure perfection. The steady background buzz of a Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn with kids playing, families grilling, and casual soccer games while a lovely ceremony took place in the foreground. After the wedding, it was nice to walk through the park and a bit around the shaded perimeter. It's truly a borough oasis and I'd move to the city just for that! read more

This place is really huge space. Its fun to go at barbecue over there. Theres even ice skating, its very cool. You should go there

I love Prospect Park and I love the surrounding area (Windsor Terrace) as well! A great place to visit and take a nature walk. Across from the Pavilion Theatre every Wednesday they have an outdoor markets selling fruit, apple cider, pies, and veggies! Check it out! read more

I'm not a runner, but running through this park inspired me to jog almost 5 miles through the park and around the city. The view was just gorgeous. Such a nice place to jog, stroll, picnic, frolic -- very nice! read more

Central Park has all the famous landmarks, but I like Prospect more. It's just a really beautiful park, and there are far fewer tourists.

If it's sunny, you'll find a sea of strollers and babysitters along with stay-at-home moms and dogs on the Longmeadow. Nestled in between those domestic pockets are hipsters that are too cool for Williamsburg, runners who think that it's okay for them to run shirtless, high schoolers cutting class, and people on their day off just wanting alone time to read a book. If it's cloudy and cool you'll notice the couples in coats holding hands and walking slower than the group of hardened senior citizens en route to their favorite bench. Sidle along Prospect Park West and you'll see all the doctors sending away their patients, or singles ambling up to the lonely snack carts. If it's a balmy night you'll see the ballfields full of dads playing catch with their sons, brothers beating up on brothers, cousins cutting other cousins in line for food. Everyone getting off of work gears up and runs again, and the number of dogs and dogwalkers double. There's so many things to look at and do here and what makes it so great is that it's not infested by tourists on the south side. You can walk along canyons and see waterfalls and ducks and ride boats or go to the dog beach. It's so accessible and comfortable. You can hear Brooklyn breathe when you step into this place. read more

The weekend population in the parade grounds make the park seem desolate. A quick review of most of what the Parade Grounds have to offer: **Tennis: usually quite bustling here, there are about 10 courts that are heated and covered during the winter to provide year-round enjoyment. Best time to go? Late at night, you can learn to play without hitting the pros with stray balls. **Soccer fields: Astroturf baby. Nuf said. **Volleyball courts: There is only one net making it virtually impossible to throw together a pick-up game on the weekends, also best utilized later in the evenings. **Basketball courts: Three options of different sizes, usually at least one available **Baseball fields: Locked when not in use to keep them from getting torn up, they've yet to figure out how to keep the geese from defecating in mass quantities **Concession stand: Open on the weekends, if you like processed cheese and ore-ida fries this might be for you **Bathrooms: Never...ever...under ANY circumstances should you use the bathrooms. Or enter after dark. I'm convinced there is something living in there that is more dangerous than the rank odor that space emits.... read more

If you are visiting Prospect Park please try to enter from the southern most entrance. If you do then you will have the pleasure of viewing Grand Army Plaza which rivals any arch built. I used to pitch pennies into Lincolns hat. Learned how to hit a curveball on the baseball fields. There is also a beautiful fountain right past the Arch. On the most eastern part of the park right below the zoo, are very very quiet sections yet oh so beautiful. Not much foot traffic especially after dark . Man I could go on I was going to tell you the story about something very naughty I did in PP. I will save that for another time. Guys lots of events to attend perfect for a Saturday afternoon date or (tryst). prospectpark.com read more

For the good people of Brooklyn, Central Park has got nothing on you dear Prospect Park. You can BBQ, bike, run, loll, skate, eat, row, listen, binge, relax, sun, fun, wed, play, market, and on and on right in your own borough. It's the kind of place that makes you want to be more outdoorsy, get a dog, play an intramural sport, and finish all the books on your list while lying on the grass in the big city. read more

Really amazing park. If you like the great outdoors and beautiful scenes of nature this is the park for you. A lot of open space as well

I ADORE PROSPECT PARK. End of story. Ok, not the end of the story. I can run from my apartment, to the park, all the way around the loop, and home again and it's exactly 6 miles! It makes me feel good. I love to see all the people taking advantage of the park's awesomeness. I love that there are always cross-country teams (my team included... gooo Prospect Park Cross Country!) and soccer teams and cycling teams always practicing. There are always kids in the playgrounds. There are always mothers walking the loop with their strollers. I love that *most* of the time, cars are not allowed to drive in the park (should be that way all the time if you ask me!). I love that it's not tourist ridden like Central Park is, and that the grassy areas aren't all fenced off like CP. Though I do love CP! Just not like PP. Hearts. Love. Prospect Park. read more

I've been cycling here for the past 4 months three or four times a week and it's absolutely changed my life. What more can you ask from a park? A perfectly paved lap of 3.5 miles with a decent albeit short climb, huge open green space, a lake, great music venue (just saw My Brightest Diamond and Sufjan Stevens on a perfect night last week), almost no car traffic, and tons of other people being active along with you. Honestly if you live in BK and don't take advantage of this miracle you should be sent to live in Boston or something. And a few words of advice for cyclist. This lap is frequented by what looks like some of the best riders in the city. So mind your etiquette while you're there because people are training and are taking it super serious, which is a great thing, just remember that you're at one of the most popular places to ride in all of New York. Also, there is this spot right when you get to the zoo and it becomes inexplicably ten degrees cooler for about 300 yards. Its an amazing feeling in the dead of summer and should be cherished every time because it's comes right before a rather unfriendly climb. read more

Smorgasburg food Market! What a great event to attend on a weekend! Tons of food vendors. They also have a beer and wine section. Allaghash white, rose wine, Chardonnay, and others. One con about the beer is the line is long and to grab another beer can get complicated. But it's worth waiting in line to accompany a burger with a beer. This food market has such diverse food you won't know where to begin! I had the half philly cheese steak from Federoff. They were pretty good. I also had the So Good oatmeal ice cream cookie. That was great! It melted in your mouth and was cooling after sitting in the hot sun. This event was so much fun. You may get lost getting there since you enter the park miles away. Just keep asking people and you'll end up being guided in. Wear comfortable sneakers !!!! You climb a steep hill and may have to hop over a fence. But it's sooo worth it ! Everything is delicious and satisfying ! read more

To wrap up my first 2013 100 Yelp challenge (Only took me about two and a half months) I wanted to choose something near and dear to me. I have selected Prospect Park. From a little lad to a grown man, Prospect Park has been a place I have spent many great moments in my life. As a little kid I went on many walks through the park. Always enjoying a frankfurter and some calorie packed soda. Thanks Mom and Dad. I always walked around the park and had water gun fights with my dad. Super Soaker 100 was my weapon of choice. Not too bulky, easy pump, light and deadly! As I got older, my adolescence was more about making the park my place to cause mischief. Those super soakers came in handy, putting nasty combination of stuff in there and spraying kids who came by. If you happen to be reading this now and that occurred to you. I apologize, it was immature but really really funny. Plus I'm sure you were asking for it. Having friends hide in large cardboard boxes until unsuspecting couples came by and pop out to scare them was a fun activity. Halloweens were always interesting in the park back in the day. Obviously my favorite memories are the ones that involved generic teenage activities that can't be considered memories because they involve remembering. Though I do remember a girl running through the sprinklers and having trails of red liquid run down her legs. Oh such a special moment in a young woman's life to have occur in front of everyone. I stopped frequenting the park and didn't return until I moved from closer to it. There's tons to do. They have free concerts that take place at the bandstands. There are movie screenings. Caught the Muppets last year. Go for a great run around the never ending track. Though I hate you cyclists! During rush hour, you can drive through the park. However they got rid of one of the car lanes to expand the cyclist's lanes. Car/Car accidents in the park, none! Car/Pedestrian accidents, none! Cyclists cause all of the accidents. Not saying all cyclists are bad, just most of them. Apparently this is the year the lakeside will be complete. There are tons of baseball diamonds to play a quick game of softball. The lake house is gorgeous. You can walk in the park and almost guarantee yourself the ability to play in a pickup football game or a futbol game. You can walk around the park and get lost, thank god for iPhones. Though with some of the beautiful imagery you won't mind getting lost at all. Was just here two weeks back on a beautiful Sunday. Got some color and took in the great sights. GoogaMooga will be back this year and like most the first day was a bummer but the second was one of the best days of my life. My favorite activity in the park though is all about Barbecuing. Now I unfortunately can't tell you my BBQ spot. It's a big secret and it's the best place to BBQ in the entire park. If I told everyone, it would bring too much volume. I would only be able to tell you on a personal level. Sorry. No it's not the typical BBQ pit spots, too many people there and that would be a terrible secret. I love setting up a BBQ, drinking some great brews, throwing around a football and frisbee. Getting into a water balloon fight like a little kid and eating some juicy burgers. Then walking over to the ices vendors, eating a little bit of them and then pouring some vodka or rum in. A great treat to have on a great day. You can find me here Memorial Day weekend and July 4th unless I have something better going on. Though I don't know what can be. read more

Aside from Central Park in Manhattan, Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, this is one of my Favorite places to go!. I ran 4 miles here / Also Half Marathon (thanks to NYRR.org) I play Grass Volleyball here I attended Food show / Concerts here I Hung out and had a Picnic with friends here. Location is pretty close to a lot of trains (check map for location). Water fountain and Restroom is also available for public. So bring a blanket, bottle of water and snack food, Ipad or book and enjoy a day that you don't have to spend a PENNY at the park!. I'm very proud of our borough park. It's our own little central park but better (no tourists - no offense). It's large enough for the adventurers to explore all of the trails yet small enough where you are not overwhelmed by all the greenery. And what beautiful greenery it is! I often go there to stop and smell the roses from time and time. It's my time to walk, think and get clarity on the items on my brain. It takes me about an hour and sometimes a little more to walk around the entire park (don't judge me)....remember I'm smelling the roses : ) I left the park even happier because they were giving out free all natural lemonade as a promotion, and boy was I thirsty. The lemonade was also delicious and refreshing. So I definitely recommend exploring this beautiful work of nature. It's a gem in our city of cement. read more

I crashed on my best friends' couch in Prospect Heights, two blocks away from the Brooklyn Museum, over the summer of 2006. I was scheduled to work at a reading center in the Village while I was there, but before I left my previous location, Montreal, I called the center director, feigned illness and a return flight home, and arrived in New York with a completely free schedule. That led me to a summer of taking walks in Park Slope, reading in bookstores all day, eating 3-hour lunches by myself as my friends were at work, and spending lazy, hot afternoons laying on the grassy hills of Prospect Park. My friend from New Jersey once came to visit, and she gave me a joint for my 27th birthday, not knowing that I ceased smoking years ago. Not wanting it to go to waste, I took quick puffs from it each afternoon before heading to the park with my iPod and book-of-the-day, and took lovely cat naps under the sun. The joint lasted for weeks, until one night I got paranoid and tossed it out the window. Still, with or without that haze, Prospect Park was the highlight of my summer. read more

I used to come here with my grandfather when I was younger and go fishing in the pond. This place holds lots of memories for me. Many, many family picnics, 4th of July BBQs, social gatherings, dog walks, jogs, etc. During the summer I like to walk from my apt. to Prospect Park with my dog. We then both grab hot dogs, find an empty bench and enjoy nature. It's also a great place to grab a blanket, find a shady spot and read a good book. read more

BEST NYC PARK!!! Whether you stay on the beaten (ie paved) path or go along the nature tails, there is soooooo much beauty to behold. The waterfalls a small but beautiful, and you can climb on the Binnen Falls! I always enjoy a snack or lunch by Ambergill Falls in the Ravine. The recently installed a few water stations to refill your bottles The only drawback is there are only 3 REAL bathrooms: Lincoln Rd which are usually a mess Audubon House which is rarely open Picnic House way up on North side (not bad) PortaPottys are around but they are hit or miss.... Prospect Park - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I think this may one of the few parks in the city where you can genuinely escape the city. I'm talking find-yourself-in-the-middle-of-a-wooded-area-while-not-being-able-to-see-or-hear-people-and-cars escape. There are a lot of unpaved, dirt paths that diverge from the main walking strips. They often lead to other paths, quiet little ponds, and wide open flat and hilly lawns that are the settings for many picnics, bbqs, sports, and general outdoor merriment during the warmer seasons and plenty of snow activities during the winter. If you've got the time and the weather's nice, it's also a pleasant walk from one side of the park to the other. Aside from the popular summer concerts in the park and what I think will be a regular Smorgasburg spot, I believe they have other things going on from time to time but not 100% sure. I need to look into that...but anyway, if you're in the area, come take a walk. read more
