Brooklyn's greatest attraction in my humble opinion. The lifeblood of the entire borough.

I love this park BUT be careful when venturing out there on your own, ladies and gentlemen! This place is beautiful and relaxing but the vast grounds are easy to get lost in without a GPS, so always trek the park with a buddy or two, bring a portable charger for your phone, comfy shoes and water! Early hikes, runs, walks or relaxation from open to 4pm are best* I enjoyed the trees, creeks, ponds/lakes and cute park animals such as the ducks and chipmunks! read more

If you are in Brooklyn, and you don't want to trek all the way into the city to go to Central Park, this is the park to go to. It is very similar in nature. Prospect Park is way less touristy. It has an amazing bike path with some killer hills. It has an indoor ice skating rink, along with softball fields, basketball, tennis center etc. It has some beautiful ponds too. Parking is way easier to find at this park than Central Park. On Saturdays, it has the food market bustling with fresh foods from local farms. You will also find nice restaurants to eat around the park. read more

What's not to love about this park. In fact Frederick Law Olmsted (who also designed Central park as well) said he prefered Prospect Park. When I first moved here 8 years ago, I didn't know that much of the city and I would bike here every single weekend. It's got something for everyone, playgrounds, the big lawn, zoo, botanical garden's, farmer's market, walking and bike paths, 2 waterfalls and a big lake. There's also the stump playground that was built after Hurricane Sandy to use up the trees that fell down. My brother got married at the boathouse, it was a low key and beautiful ceremony. Like I said, it's got it all! read more

Clean very big park. Great for biking or jogging. My favorite part are the waterfalls

Prospect Park is certainly the most beautiful park in Brooklyn! It is full of many wondrous sights, nature trails and great entertainment, especially during the summer. It's time for me to return with my grandchildren to visit the Zoo - just as I did in my childhood days. read more

Not as advertised. I went here prospecting and discovered no gold or any other rich ore deposits. Prospectors may have parked here years ago, but they must have gotten all the goods. However, the fields are well maintained and I suppose one could could enjoy their time here if they don't expect to open a mining operation. Please obey leash laws, fellow dog owner. read more

I grew up in Brooklyn and fond memories of this place it's beautiful! I love prospect park

This park is a great spot for grilling. They have public charcoal grills you can use, and a lot of people bring their own nicer grills, particularly on memorial day. Once, a group of friends roasted two entire whole pigs there, feeding 100+ people. If you're not interested in cooking yourself, there are food vendors in the park, and in the summer there's an outdoor food market called Smorgasburg which always has lots of delicious and creative options. The staff is pretty lax as well. I called to ask if we could drink in the park, and the attendant said "Technically not, but just be discrete about it, like use solo cups and it's fine". That's my kind of park! It's also got great bike trails if you want some exercise. They've also got some fitness equipment, although I can't vouch for it. You can even sign up for fitness bootcamps there. They do special events here, which you can find more information about here: https://www.prospectpark.org/news-events/events One of my fondest memories at Prospect Park was wandering through the woods and hearing music drifting over from a nearby field where the New York Philharmonic was playing a live show. read more

I have lived in Brooklyn, my whole life, I have 3 kids ranging from 27 to 9 and I have had different adventures with each of them here. It is an oasis in Brooklyn that should not be taken for granted. Ive watched Brooklyn change throughout the years but this place remains one that you can always count on for music, fresh air, lakes, quiet, whatever you like to do for relaxation, you can find it here in some form. read more

nothing like being back in my old neighborhood and enjoying Prospect Park. as a kid our elementary school class used to come here for our end of the school year class picnic - but really, it was all about the epic water gun and NERF fights. do they even allow kids to play with those anymore? probably not - SAD!! anyway, I digress. there are very well-maintained running paths (unlike Flushing Meadows Corona Park) and no mountains of horse presents or tourist mobs (unlike Central Park). the big inner loop is about 3.3 miles, but there are two transverse paths as well you can use for some variation. the entire park is car-free, which is GLORIOUS (I'm a car owner, but I love my parks). the architecture in and around Prospect Park is wonderful. the Soldiers' and Sailor's Memorial Arch on the north side is, let's face it, so much better than the Arc de Triomphe, and you don't have to get on a plane, navigate as much horrible traffic, and put up with French people to see it. read more

While it's smaller than Manhattan's Central Park and definitely not as famous, Brooklyn's Prospect Park is a great place to take a walk with your dog, get some exercise, or just enjoy the fall foliage. Prospect Park, I love you, and I hate you. You are my morning ritual. At the crack of dawn, I rise out of a sea of coziness and lace up my running shoes ... and we begin our morning dance. On lazy Sundays, when the rest of the world catches up on sleep, you and I set out on a labor of love. I've literally logged hundreds of miles on your concrete trails, gotten lost one or two times in your dreamy tree-lined walkways, fallen asleep in your grassy knolls on blissful summer days, and always, always been cradled by your beauty, no matter what activity we're engaging in. Some call you the little brother of Central Park, or Brooklyn's "wannabe" - but I? I think there's no comparing the two of you. You're different beasts, and you walk a different walk. Even on Saturdays, when the Green Army Plaza is packed with locals queuing for tasty goodies, you maintain that trademark Brooklyn vibe (laaaid back). With less tourist-fueled frenetic energy than Manhattan's parks, you'll always, always be my go-to. When my IT band is screaming and my muscles are cramped, you encourage me to keep going by throwing in a downward slope, or by spilling sunshine through the clouds at that last moment when I think I might just give up and start walking. You're a tease, but I love it all the same. Don't ever change, except only to keep aging like a fine wine. read more

Though I wasn't born here, I've now officially been a Brooklynite for the majority of my adult life. And during this time, I've always lived within walking distance of Prospect Park. Now, as I mentioned, I can't claim to have gallivanted through here as a young pup, playing catch with pops. I can't claim to have illegally boozed here after hours as a Kings County teen. For a while, in fact, I felt strange calling any part of this greensward my own, nor did I want to. Because despite my typical selfish nature, I truly wish to share with as many people as possible this beautiful space - Prospect Park, the best damn park in New York City. That's right. I said it. Don't agree? If we want to get all historical, Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted designed Prospect Park after their success with that other Manhattan Park That Shall Remain Nameless, ultimately citing that, with their Brooklyn venture, they "got it right" and considered it their "masterpiece". I know this because I got an A in my Landscape Architecture 101 elective course I took in college (affectionately nicknamed Larch) and because I searched it on the Google to be super sure. So yeah, I think I know what I'm talking about here. Prospect Park is the living, breathing definition of an urban oasis. It only takes a few strides through any of the park's gorgeous entrances to be completely enveloped by greenspace. City buildings and Brooklyn brownstones fade away from your periphery and you feel like you've found someplace far beyond the reaches of the subway system. That escapism is exclusive to the pastoral Prospect Park, and Vaux and Olmsted knew damn well that they made something as aesthetically natural as possible within the confines of a rapidly industrialized New York. I live in Park Slope/South Slope/Whatever Slope, and every time we've entertained the idea of moving to another neighborhood, my concern is always the same: "Yeah, but what about The Park?" There are some truly great areas here in Kings County, but for me, Prospect Park is what I'd miss most if I were to move somewhere else in the borough. This would make it seem like I frequent Prospect Park daily. I don't. But I most definitely should. I should be tackling that bike loop every morning, with that sneaky uphill stretch that creeps up on you on the back end and really knows how to take the wind out your sails. I should be attending every Celebrate Brooklyn! summer concert at the Bandshell, laying out a blanket on the grass, watching fireflies buzz between the strewn lights that illuminate the trees. I should swing by Grand Army Plaza every Saturday for the Greenmarket, or alternating summer Sundays for the Food Truck Rally. I should hit up the sleek LeFrak Rink at Lakeside for some roller- and ice-skating, if we all happened to live in an alternate universe where I was actually good at either of those things. The truth is, whichever season you visit, or whatever part of the park you visit, it's gorgeous year-round and all-around. I discover a new nook nearly every time I venture here. And while there are tons of activities to take advantage of, mostly I'm just that walking emoji guy up in this park, and I'm totally content with that, too. And while Prospect Park wasn't part of my formative years, it's proving to be a pretty special backdrop for my adulthood here in Brooklyn. I proposed to my wife at Grand Army Plaza. Later, we took those cheesy engagement photos under the walking bridges. And just recently, I strolled my first born through the grounds, discussing plans to have her first birthday here, something low-key and lovely at a picnic table under the trees. I can now say with certainty, without fearing some birther backlash, that Brooklyn is my home, and Prospect Park is my park. read more

IN YO FACE CENTRAL PARK!!!!!! Brooklyn is the best borough and Prospect Park is one of the reasons why. In case you were wondering (and I KNOW you were), Prospect Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, the same architect who designed Central Park - and apparently he liked Prospect Park better. You can very much tell from the design, with the giant meadow, the rolling hills and treelined border, that this park is from the mid-19th c. when people were trying to deal with the "urban crisis" overcrowding, sanitation issues, etc. It really is an escape from the concrete jungle. The Park houses the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in addition to a 10mile bikeway, numerous spots for picnics and grilling, a pond, and islands. It's a great place to meet up with friends on a lazy weekend day, to just sit quietly by yourself, or to play a game of soccer or frisbee. I go here just to clear my mind and feel calmer in the craziness that is my life. I feel, dare I say, blessed to be able to live a ten-fifteen minute bike ride from Prospect Park. I adore coming here, hanging out, bringing my books from the nearby library, watching the kids and the beautiful diversity of Brooklynites at their leisure. Thanks, Frederick Law!! read more

Great place to walk very relax and clean some area you could do bbq go with your family and have a great day

If you live in Park Slope or the surrounding neighborhoods and are the parent of a teenager this is probably where you'll find them on weekend evenings. Do not be surprised if they are guzzling 40s of Colt 45 or OE. Do not be surprised if they are smoking weed. Do not be surprised if they receive a summons for drinking in the park, blame it on their no good friends and have to go to court. Prospect Park has been a part of my life from the day I moved to Brooklyn (I think I was 3). We lived in Windsor Terrace, right across from the place. The good: Being able to cross the street, walk for 5 minutes and be on the perfect sledding hill. Being able to roam the "forests" and pretend you were a Native American trekking "your land" and trying to solve problems that the White Man brought to you. This would usually end in death. Lots of death. There are millions of trees to climb and it's a wonderful bird watching spot. The bad: The rats would scurry over from the park and to our house to save themselves from the cold. Prospect Park seems to be the place to remember how diverse Brooklyn is. You've got a hodge podge of people playing impromptu soccer matches, kids of all colors and shapes and sizes learning how to play baseball, latino volleyball barbecues and scores of beautiful couples picnicking in the fields. It's kind of a paradise, especially in the summer when Celebrate Brooklyn is in full swing and you're at a concert with fireflies buzzing around you. DID U KNO: The Vale of Cashmere was where homosexuals would go to do it up back in the day!! FUN FACT!! read more

"I spy with my little eye...a high tree." -- Little girl to father. Girl, please. That's not even fair. Also, you should really say "tall." Anyway. I'm not here to correct a five-year-old's grammar or point out how unfairly she plays the "I Spy" game.* I'm here to talk about Brooklyn's lush, sprawling, and endlessly fun park. And the little girl has a point: It's full of nature! This is one of my favorite places to spend a sunny weekend not far from the apartment. Pack a little picnic with your favorite sweet treats, and don't forget your grape juice or sparkling water.** If you're a voyeur like me, you'll love people-watching here.*** Here you can sit back, relax, and watch: -- People "spike" a volleyball right into someone else's face. -- Shirtless sunbathers acting like this is a beach. -- People flying kites. Or better yet: Kites that won't fly. -- People exercising, making you feel like a drunk fatty. -- Dogs. Lot of adorable dogs. -- Children running, crying, tripping, actin' a fool, and generally being little people without a care in the world, making you simultaneously glad AND jealous that you aren't one.**** Seriously though. This park is huge--with so many hidden meadows and treasures--and you should dedicate a good amount of time to exploring. Lots of concerts, the zoo, festivals, and lounging. What more could you ask for? (Just ignore the over-flowing garbage cans.) __________ * But it is something to look into unless you want her failing out of elementary school. Just sayin', give it some thought. ** By which I mean WINE. Duh. *** I'm owning up to my creeper-status. We all should. **** Based solely on this review, I should never have children. read more

Okay, you Manhattanites, you can have your Central Park, okay? We Brooklyners will gladly take Prospect Park every day of the week and twice on Sunday. What, I'm not from Brooklyn? Well for the purpose of this write-up I am. So I've been here a few times now, and I love it more every time. My first time was seeing Kasey Chambers at the Bandshell for one of the Celebrate Brooklyn free concerts. Another time was last year for the TV on the Radio show, again at the bandshell. And I came for a picnic here a few weeks ago. What I love about this park is that it is quite similar to Central Park, in that there are expansive areas of pure green grass and lots of people, and then a few hundred yards away you'll think you're in some wooded area in Maine. That the park was designed by Olmstead and Vaux, who also did Central Park, is no mere coincidence. Tell you how big this park is: I was driving and it took about 10 minutes, with no traffic lights in the middle of the night, doing about 50 mph, to drive by the park. It's that huge. Not saying that you should do the same thing, I'm just sayin'. So look for me at the Feist show in July! read more

Biggest Park in NYC second to only the famous Central Park in Manhattan. Although not as pretty and immaculately manicured or have as many things to do as it's Manhattan counterpart, it does have some things going for it that is better. -Like Central Park, there is a extensive bike/running path. Over 3 miles of it per loop. Although shorter than the one in Central Park, it is less crowded, have less pedestrian cross ways in the way for potential accidents, and best of all, no horse doo doo to avoid from all those horse drawn tourist carriages found in Central Park. There is also no traffic lights to worry about when biking really fast. Those tickets given by the police at Central Park for running the red lights within the park could get expensive real fast. -There is a dedicated picnic spot with a nearby parking within the park . Just look up Picnic House in Prospect Park. The Picnic spot includes a indoor restroom, a food stand, lots of grass and tables, and allows up to 25 people per group without getting a permit. You are even allowed to bring your own BBQ grill there. Just be aware that you can not BBQ near the trees or throw the ash at the foot of the trees because it would harm them. -There is an area for row boats just like in Central Park, but with less lines. -An active farmers market happens at Grand Army Plaza right at the main entrance of the park every Sat from 8 am to 4 pm all year round and at Bartel-Pritchard Circle on Wed from 8 am to 3 pm during the months of May to November. -A food truck gathering every 3rd Sunday of the month during the warmer seasons at Grand Army Plaza. -There used to be a ice skating rink called Wollman Rink, but they demolished that. In it's place, they are now building not one but two new shiny ice skating rinks. -Over the last few years, venues have been using the park for a lot of concerts and events, some of which are free. read more

It has been my dream to go on a picnic with a boyyyyyyyy in the park. I know, I dream really big. Well my dreams came true yesterday. Like a good domestic housewife, I packed an enormous picnic decked out with turkey sandiwches on challah rolls, 2 different kinds of chips, cookies and a homemade fruit salad. I even put mango in the salad (he adores mango apparently)- and I DESPISE mango. Romantic right? We sprawled ourselves over my queen sized flat sheet and 2 throw pillows and ate and talked and wondered "How high can kites REALLY fly?" The breeze was glorious. The sun not too bright. The grass, perfect. Our picnic ended with a gift from HIM. He bought me a box of assorted hazelnut creme filled cookies from his trip to Italy last week. He definitely knows how to win over my heart... Thank you Prospect Park for an amazingly delightful 3rd date... read more
