So happy Prospect is here! Absolutely gorgeous inside and out. No expense spared to create an upscale lodge and Restaurant with an amazing mountainous view. The bar is classic and the cocktail menu varied. The food matches the atmosphere and service: wonderful! Brunch (get the pancakes, bacon, eggs Benedict) and snacks and dinner are offered and I've never had a bad meal here. Sourdough bread and the burger are personal favorites. read more

I'll start by saying that I've been here before, and (regrettably) I have suggested Prospect as a 'go-to'. We visited this past Saturday evening, and the place was packed. Now- it is understandable that when you are busy there could be a wait...but to wait over 25 minutes sitting at the bar with a menu in hand and an order at the ready is far from acceptable. My GF acknowledged the situation and asked to put (at the least) our food order in and she was barked at by the bartender. Not acceptable. I expressed my displeasure with his aggression which led to an even more disappointing circumstance. If you can't handle a dinner crowd, or, if you cannot handle negative criticism about your service (or lack thereof) then perhaps you are in the wrong business. In other forums, I'm what your demo calls an 'influencer'. I spend a ton of time and money in restaurants around Greene and Ulster counties, and I am a very generous tipper. Many a friend- and even more acquaintances- are always asking me where to go, and what to eat because my experience and judgement are trusted. My answer will NEVER be Scribner's. It hurts me to be this way, but every person has their limit. With other quality options on the mountaintop, there's no need to go a place where you are not valued. Delicious. Literally Delicious. I would have never expected this place right near Hunter Mountain. Prospect is inside a BEAUTIFUL hotel. We didn't have a rezzy on a pretty busy Saturday night. Thankfully they worked with us and got us seated in about an hour. While we waited we had fire side drinks and it was amazing. We had the burratta app - amaaaaazing Burger- I didn't have this, but the table RAVED. Sirloin- perfectly cooked medium rare and the sides were great. Do not miss out on this place! read more

Everyone was telling me that this restaurant was so good and they were correct. This was one of the most incredible meals I have ever had! The ricotta toast was very tasty, followed by the white lamb ragu pasta, and finished off with the chocolate cremeux! So happy I left room for dessert because it was absolutely incredible! Literally the worst dining experience I have ever had. We arrived for our 8:30 reservation, ordered a round of drinks and appetizers- all seemed good- we ordered our mains and another round of drinks and were told we could not have our next round of drinks yet- we had to slow down and wait til our main courses were delivered. Confused, I asked why and he said because they just had liability training and were responsible if something happened to us. I explained that no one in our party was driving but he responded that we could possibly fall. ??? We had the Scallops, the Fondue, the Beets. I could have stopped there but we didn't....we went on for the Sea Bass, the Chicken and the Mushroom plate. The flavors were eclectic, fresh, exciting!! The food was presented so perfectly...it was like having a little Manhattan flair at Hunter Mountain. Just perfect. We give our hats off to Chef Sagar!!! The staff was BEYOND...also. So welcoming...they make you WANT to stay and cozy up at the bar. Brunch...just go with the French Toast. They make their own brioche and then they soak it for like a week. So, had an amazing meal here this evening. To go through it all and I would follow this if it sounds good. Started with the maple old fashioned. We ordered the beets, which included red and yellow beets and was served with a mildly tart dollop of creamy cheese. The pate was not the spreadable version I was expecting, but just as surprisingly delicious, and topped with awesome mustard-y jam (possibly my favorite thing?) also garnished with sliced almonds and sliced mini pickles. The bucatini (formerly criticized for being small?) was appropriately sized. It had all the right flavors of the sea without being fishy, and perfectly cooked pasta. The burger was standard in presentation but not in flavor- I even soaked my French fries in it. All fantastic. And reasonably priced. Now gonna go make some smores on the deck over an open fire. The food, service, and view were fantastic. We opted to sit outside and enjoy the crisp Fall air and were not disappointed. I had the Henry's Misadventure cocktail, which was pretty good (3/5). To start, my wife & I shared the sourdough bread (3.5/5), squash toast with goat cheese (4.5/5), and Portuguese Octopus (5/5). This not (yet) a 4 or 5 star establishment because the service is unorganized, forgetful, and occasionally unprofessional. Service has been consistently poor and unacceptable given the restaurant's price point. I've had 5-6 meals so far and drinks have been forgotten or served very late every time. The wrong dishes are often served and timing is way off with entrees served when appetizers are still st the table. Some staff members have been visibly intoxicated. Acoustics are another problem. Even with a moderately full dining room, the surfaces create a screaming loud atmosphere that is jarring and often unpleasant. Cushions on the rock hard banquettes would be a good idea. The saving grace is the excellent food. I've had the steak for 2, roast chicken, salmon, scallops, sea bass, etc. Everything on the menu is delicious. It's a shame that many members of the service staff are not at the same level of kitchen staff. Finally, it's lame to charge $4 for bread & butter given prices well exceed every restaurant in the area and many high-end restaurants in NYC. read more

Started at the bar with a perfect cocktail & frosty beer...moved to the deck for sunset, then moved inside for a bite. Rye gemelli and...hmm don't remember what my wife had. But she liked it a lot. Very accommodating to us when the booth of millennials next to us got loud, forgetting that they weren't in their high school cafeteria...we moved to the quiet lounge area for dessert and to reclaim our Catskills calm. I really hate to give this fabulous establishment a one star rating, alas. The food and wait staff definitely get 5 stars but the arrogant clueless bartender who completely ruins the atmosphere would get 0 stars if this was possible. My first thought was it's blatantly obvious this bartender has no experience but turns out he's been there for a while, hearing the same thing from other reviews and friends/colleagues that have stayed at Scribner's. We all want to get away from the attitudes in nyc and relax in a peaceful environment not deal with the same BS outside of the city. This all happened while there were only 3 people at the bar it was not busy whatsoever. It took him 20 mins to even bring the menu, he never looked you in the eye, no "hello how are you ", please or thank you. Bartender had absolutely no personality and proceeded to just throw the drink menu down. He kept leaving the bar every 5 mins, got the drink orders completely wrong, he poured the beers but it took him 20 mins to serve them so he left them to go flat before handing them to us, didn't apologize and kept wiping his hands against his ass whilst making drinks . Definitely the most unprofessional and rude bartender I had ever encountered . Absolutely disgusting service on his part . My tip, get rid of the bartender if you don't want to loose patrons. read more

Five stars for food and wait staff, zero for "bar tender" who doesn't tend bar. My boyfriend and I have visited on three occasions. Once for drinks, once for brunch and once for dinner. The food was great, table service great, but every time we were there it was a challenge (more like virtually impossible) to get a simple glass of wine or a beer. I truly don't understand how the bar service can be consistently bad and management chooses to ignore it. If, however, you'd like to eat and you aren't thirsty, the burger is awesome and our friends loved their eggs when we had brunch here. I remember loving my pasta dish at dinner but was so annoyed that I couldn't enjoy a glass of wine with it that it pretty much wrecked the meal. What a hidden gem best part of the meal was the peach tomato salad! Small portions were very tasty we had a great appetizer selection of how Hamachi and octopus. We got the ribeye for two for $125 .....I am a huge steak lover and they drowned it w a sauce which didn't complement it. A good steak does not need a sauce! Also they cut the steak super thin??? Who does that? Changes the whole steak taste. Cool space. Awful service. Actually practically non existent service. Had to flag the server down after 15 minutes. There were only three other tables in the whole restaurant around 2pm on Sunday. The bartender was right across from us but ignored us. We asked for our drinks 3 times and they finally showed up. Our food, a soup and poached eggs, we waited for 35 minutes for. Flagged down the server AGAIN, told us "yeah, they're working on it". Waited another 15 minutes and still nothing. No server checking in with us, not asking us for another round of drinks. We walked over to the server who was busy arranging the tables and said we needed the check that we had to get going. No apologies offered, no explanations, no offer to comp out drinks. We paid the check and and tipped 20% (not sure why). Like the service, we won't be in a hurry to go back. read more

The service is somewhat rude(applies to the bar only), you're constantly being ignored as the staff walks by and pretend they don't see you. Front desk is super sweet and provide the necessary service needed. Might come back next season to see if improvements were made. read more

I am giving them 2 stars not because the food was bad because the service was very poor, they lingered and didn't give enough time to enjoy the atmosphere. Our entrees were brought out before we were done our appetizers no time to digest and then dessert was excepted right away and when we finally passed on dessert they shoved the check in our face. The hostess and bartender were about as delightful as the cold, below average, $5 bread we order to start. Pretentious atmosphere is encouraged by the staff. The size of the $42 strip steak was so insulting I sent it back. The pork chop my wife ordered outweighed my steak by several pounds, 80% of which was fat. At $15 a piece the drinks were good and well needed to stomach the attitude, overpriced bill and average food. It's a shame because it's a beautiful set-up and full of potential. Worst service I've ever experienced! It took 25 minutes to get our first drink at the bar. It was so hot at the bar, so we asked to move to a table out of the sun. They said we could once it was cleaned. They never cleaned it so we had to clean it ourselves. We then tried to order drinks at the table. Asked 4+ times, never took our order after waiting 45 more than minutes. It's not like it was crowded! The place was half empty. Definitely going to find drinks elsewhere when I'm back in the area. I cannot say enough good things about this place! My husband and I stayed at scribners for a long weekend and dined at Prospect for both dinner and brunch. Dinner: The braised octopus appetizer was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful! Main courses were amazing as well- my husband had the sirloin and I had the Chilean sea bass. The food was both beautifully presented as well as delicious. Brunch: HIGHLY recommended either the smoked salmon and dill cream sauce on sourdough toast or the French toast with fruit chutney SO delicious! We can't wait to come back. read more

This is my second trip to Prospect at Scribners Lodge. The first time back in November 2017 when it first opened, I would give both the food and service, including bartenders 5 star. Most recently, the bartender service is very slow and the food is good relative to other restaurants around, but not worth traveling for. The pasta dishes are the best thing on the menu as well as the CBD desserts. The hamburger has gone downhill as the bun overpowers the burger. Overall, the lodge is very cozy with a relaxing ambiance. This place also is dog friendly so stay away if that's not your thing. read more

First off, we loved the ambiance, beautiful views and friendly service. We stopped in for a quick dinnner while spending the weekend in the catskills. We had the fresh pasta which was served al denate which I prefer. We also had the burger which was pretty disappointing. The bun was horrible, dry, crumbly, no flavor. I woUld have preferred a McDonald's bun... and it was so messy I got more on my hands than mouth. It just seemed like the specially curated ingriendents took a backstage to a poorly thought out dish. To start off my friend and I only went here because we went zip lining across the street and they told us we would get 10% off from select restaurants. We get here and waited 10+ minutes before host realized we were waiting to be seated. Then we waited 15+ minutes for someone to come help us. We order and waiter recommend a very disgusting drink which was expensive as hell. Not sure what it was called has a garnish of dried ginger and blueberry. The squash soup and hummus was fresh and delicious. I also had the veggie burger. They made this burger sound really good on the menu and came out with the beyond burger instead of a real vegetable burger; It was okay. My friend got a regular burger which he said was okay also nothing special. Later the waiter comes out with a bill of $120 which had 18% already including. When I asked the waiter why the 10% off was not added he replied saying they don't do the 10% off anymore. Place and service sucked, overall go somewhere else don't waste your money. read more

Went for dinner for my daughters birthday. The place is new and beautiful. Unfortunately, that's the best part of it. Our waitress was inattentive and clueless. The menu is too limited. We had to get up to find our waitress to ask for additional drinks, silverware and eventually the check. The food was mediocre. The ribeye for 2 was a very fatty cut of meat that was not suitable for 2 adults. The bill was very expensive and we left very unsatisfied. They took the time to create a beautiful restaurant now they need to find competent waitstaff and kitchen staff before it ends up like everything else in Hunter-- CLOSED. read more
