a meal in a styrofoam container

For a grab-and-go place, this is as good ask it gets! There are so many choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner in SF. Most of the time, especially during a work-day, it can be hard to choose mostly because of how dense places can be or ho much little time you have to run for food if you forgot to pack a lunch. Enter Proper Food. It was about 12:45 when I went on the hunt for food. I had no plans or pre-determined place to get lunch. I walked down the street and saw Proper Food. "Hmm. It's like a minimalist 7/11 with a Nordstrom appeal" I thought. I walked in and was surprised to see that there was hardly any line, and people were efficiently entering and exiting with hot, delicious smelling food. There are plenty of choices for breakfast and lunch, neatly and freshly packed. I saw items ranging from salads, entrees and things like wraps. They had safe options and even exciting options. If you came here with a group of friends or co-workers, you'd all leave with something you can't wait to dig into. I grabbed the Salmon Teriyaki lunch which also included fresh greens (snow peas and broccoli) and perfectly cooked brown rice. It was almost $15, but for the portion size, freshness and convenience, I did not hesitate to slide my card. The friendly cashier asked me if I wanted my food warmed up, to which I replied "Yes!" After a few minutes (less than 5), my food was heated up in the cute little container it was packaged in and I raced back to the office to enjoy my food. I was amazed when I peeled back the foil. It looked delicious and surprisingly fresh for it being from a grab-and-go joint. I'll let the picture speak for itself. Taste was a party in my mouth. The salmon was perfectly cooked, no over or undercooked and the flavor was perfect. The brown rice wasn't the kind of brown rice you have to force yourself to eat- it was fluffy and moist. Like little pillows of pure joy. The greens had the perfect texture and still had a good crisp to them despite being heated up. All in all, this place is definitely on my go-to list for convenient lunch that tastes expertly prepared with high quality ingredients!

Wasn't sure I'd like these. Tasty!

My favorite Proper Food. The food is very fresh and you get a good amount. Pretty good selection. I tried some tofu rolls that I had doubts about but they were tasty! I have liked everything I have tried here to included the specialty root beer and ginger ale. It's in the city so the price is reasonable. The workers are friendly and they keep things moving. Crowds allowing the staff will come out and answer all the food questions. They know their products well. This is my go to for a quick healthier option meal.

Sweet Potato & Egg Muffin Nest

Proper Food offers fresh and nicely packaged food that is easy to grab-and-go. I usually come here in the mornings to pick up a Sweet Potato & Egg Muffin Nest for $3.80 (after tax). They heat it up for me, and it tastes great and is decently healthy. It's pricey, but expected for SF. I recommend anyone looking for a quick breakfast to give Proper Food a try!

Quinoa salad with chicken-delicious! The cheese comes in a separate container so this is can easily be dairy free

The food here is all fresh, well made, and you can tell they make an effort to select good ingredients. You get excellent quality items, and compared to other SF locations it is not too expensive. The lemon quinoa salad (with or without chicken) is my favorite but everything in the store looks so good. I had a hard time selecting lunch there were so many good options. I would definitely say there is something for everyone because they have a variety of meats, tofu, and vegan options. They boast all natural meats and list the farms or companies where the ingredients come from. The servings are quite big so I like to get lunch and save half for dinner. This is take out only, so no seating, but the service is quick and friendly. Even though you are only in the store for a short time, it is clean and welcoming! I have ordered online, which is a very easy and quick process and I have also stopped in and picked something up and they seem to be well-stocked with all of their menu options so no fear of them running out of your favorite.

Breakfast croissant with eggs, bacon and white cheddar

I always go here for my breakfast croissant and its by far my go to for really fast and satisfying breakfast. Giving them five stars for it. I always get the one with bacon and sunny side egg, the way I always like my breakfast eggs. Also they heat it up so you can enjoy it hot.

It was too expensive for what you get. My salmon teriyaki came out to $21.50. And it wasn't even heated all the way through:(

Proper foods has addressed the issue I had with the rewards program, so I withdraw my previous complaint. Thanks for responding!

So while I can't speak to in person service or decor the delivery is on point. My peachy salad was just ok. The chicken was cold and not crunchy, and the cornbread crumbles were not crunchy at all, like kind of in between stale and crunchy... weird combo. Peaches and pickled onions were awesome though. The dressings that it came with which were a bbq sauce and some type of special ranch also were a weird combo, glad it was on the side vs in the salad itself otherwise I'm not sure I would have eaten it. Crispy cauliflower was good but definitely not crispy at all! Probably got softer on delivery but definitely not something that should be advertised as crispy when it's not... The saving item was my carrot ginger agua fresca- this was amazing! Loved it, that gets a 5/5. Food is 3/5.

She ordered Dave's Taco Bowl, which filled the bowl much lesser than my Soba salad. Service was fairly fast and it's an airy bright place, but we ordered to go. At home, we ate our bowls and with all of the promises on their bag, I'd expect it to be fresher. You know how you could take fresh vegetables' flavors that pop? They didn't have that and I hardly noticed any snow peas and pickled shimeji mushrooms in my salad. I took a bite of my daughter's taco bowl and it was ok- nothing special. Some Chipotle's bowls deliver more flavor.

First of all, this is the first time I've ever officially gone to Restaurant week SF!! I was so…read morethrilled to be with my foodie friend and we wanted to try everything on the menu, but we were so excited about going. Apparently we went a day early!! Hee. (So we took a picture of the menu, but ordered off their Fall Menu). Since I have lovely food, allergies, I'm always skeptical eating certain restaurants, but this place looked delicious! When we got there, we read in the menu everything was made from scratch, so the soy based items actually used a different style of soy, so did not have mono sodium glycinate/MSG in any of their dishes!! Being a foodie, this is always problematic for me, especially since I love Asian cuisine!! I was thrilled to know I could eat anything at this restaurant, including their delicious mushroom baos! We made a reservation online and as we walked in the Host, Michael, was incredibly helpful in seating us. Since it was such a nice warm day, we asked to be seated outside. We got a little table in between a cozy doorway, so there was a perfect breeze, and we could indulge in the beautiful Marina nightlife and it was well lit lights of San Francisco. Our server, Hunter was incredibly patient since we had no idea what we wanted and he came back. I believe three different times and my foodie friend and I were literally catching up! We decided to go with Sauvignon bong from New Zealand and that was so crisp and perfect for the warm weather! It hit the spot! Based on Hunter's recommendation, we got a salad that was just recently put back onto the menu as well as some french fries so we could try the different sauces!! I never thought having ketchup and curry together would taste good but it was a very intriguing flavor!! I love their basil aïoli as well as their chipotle aïoli! I actually liked Hunter's idea of mixing the two sauces together and making a zing creamy flavor!! Great recommendation Hunter!! To end the night, we got a delicious apple galette, which was honestly so crispy on the outside and warm on the inside it seemed to almost melt away as we cut into it and then contrast of the ice cream over the pastry crust!! Goodness everything seems so perfect here I wish we could've had more dishes!! I will definitely be back!! I had no idea this was a vegan restaurant until we got here either!! The flavors were so on point and we got full with all of our girl dinner treats we were able to walk down the street to a local wine bar!! Check out my review on Celeste!

I'm not a good cook, but I would have made a better fettuccine at home in less time for a fraction of the cost. $230 plus tip for three people with one drink. It's SF. I don't expect them to treat me like royalty, but it'd be nice to have had them say "hello", introduce themselves, and be nice and check in once or twice. First time I was here things were much better. They seem to have peaked and don't care too much about the customer or their jobs.
