The pears take it to the next level and give it that perfect sweet, crisp bite that makes every forkful feel extra refreshing. It's the kind of bowl you order when you want to feel bright and satisfied. Now if you're in the mood for something warm, crunchy, and nutty, the Bangkok Bowl is your girl. The texture, the richness, the cozy vibes -- chef's kiss. It's hearty without being heavy and hits all the comfort-food notes. And can we talk about portions?! These bowls are NO joke. Salad bar? Excuse me, no. Salad LOUNGE. This is upper class salad that had a good childhood and went to a private school. I say this not in jest, but envy. This is the salad we wish we could have everyday. The main part of the restaurant is your standard table and booth situation, but off to the side is a darker, cozier arrangement of plush chairs and couches. The tables are a bit low and awkward to eat at, but the ambiance is immaculate. You can even get beer and wine here to complete the vibe. I will always love a MIXT salad. The ingredients are fresh, well-prepared, and fairly portioned. You can eat well and healthily and it's not unreasonably priced. I still mourn the loss of the green Goddess dressing... Gee, what's a salad lounge? I remember the golden days when MIXT was Mixt Greens, but apparently they decided one name was enough for them like Cher, Madonna, Adele... Back when I was an office drone, I used to go to the ones in the FiDi with alarming regularity, but this was my first time at this unexpected Mission location, the land of tacos and kofta balls. I was expecting a lot of skinny vegan types in silk pajamas as that was my preconceived image of a salad lounge. But no, it was empty save for one senior next to the window. I was familiar with their menu and went with an old favorite, the $12.95 Beetnik Salad, to go. It consisted of 620 calories of mixed greens, arugula, roasted beets, avocado, and more... Goat cheese, toasted walnuts, dried cranberries, and shaved fennel rounded out this MIXT creation with a balsamic vinaigrette on the side (photo: https://bit.ly/47998ce). It was tasty in the way an excess of ingredients in a salad manages to accomplish. But don't expect a low calorie delight, and the grain bowls were all that much higher. Even though you cannot see it in the images, there was a good amount of quinoa and tons of kale. You choose 5 veggies to add on top, and they have a great selection of veggies and toppings as well as a pretty extensive list of dressings to choose from. All-in-all I was super pleased with my salad, even though ideally I would have paid slightly less. I was grateful to not have to drive all the way downtown for a salad (I wish there were more salad/healthy restaurants in residential SF!), and admittedly their salad was actually better than I expected (and bigger than some of the sad Yelp pictures I've seen), but I just wish I had gotten the order I had placed. I just got our group order from MIXT on Valencia, and while the salads were tasty, we were very disappointed with the portion sizes. The salads were noticeably smaller--about 2/3rds of what we typically get from the MIXT downtown location. For the price and the standards we've come to expect from MIXT, this was a letdown. I came in around 8, an hour before they closed to grab a bite before the gym. I came in and was helped by a worker who seemed like they were new (?) That's totally fine though! Their other coworker ended up helping me with my order. I ordered the Bachelor with heavy dressing and I was pleasantly surprised! It was my first time at MIXT so I wasn't sure what to expect. One thing I would like to note is that all the toppings, with the greens, and the blue cheese all go very well together! If blue cheese isn't your thing then I'd suggest swapping it out with another cheese! Another thing I would probably change is the greens or to get a little less because at the end of me eating my salad, I was left with no toppings and just the greens. For me, I like to have an equal amount of toppings, greens, and dressing so I'm not just eating greens at the end. It was around $20 and that sounds pretty reasonable considering there's steak! Service was good, they moved pretty quickly. I was offered a piece of bread at the end and the bread was okay, normal sourdough bread. Entered the doors a bit past 2pm, areas were clean, welcoming as there were only a few people finishing up their late lunches. Counter service was quick and attentive. Decided on the Cobb salad with grilled chicken and added a chicken with pesto and arugula sandwich. Took a seat outside and dove in. Sandwich was ok at best. Quite dry and minimally or hastily constructed. I would pass on it next time as it wasn't the quality I hoped for with the price. Salads are where it's at for this place. Ordered the Cobb Salad with the champagne vinegarette. Go for the medium dressing option, seemed like the most reasonable option. Overall the salad was good, lots of cheese chunks, tomatoes and chicken. I was quite happy with the size and composition of the salad. Today I ordered the "Puebla" salad. It comes with Romaine hearts, cabbage, grilled chicken, avocado, spiced honey roasted sweet potatoes, sharp cheddar cheese, pumpkin seeds, jicama, scallions, and roasted poblano dressing. Man that dressing is everything! It definitely ties in the salad well. What I love is that all the ingredients taste fresh and clean and everything is always neatly arranged and perfectly packaged. I normally order from Sweet Greens. They are always spot on with portion and flavors, but as of late it's like they just been throwing the ingredients in the bowl. Where's the love? If the ingredients in my make-your-own-grain bowl gives you deja vu, it's because I've got a fetish for arugula & quinoa topped with scallion, beets, pickled red onion, marinated tofu, & tomatoes with a miso ginger vinaigrette. The topping here that can't be found at the other five salad spots where I order some variation of this meal -- crispy shallots for the win & for the crunchy element I gotta have!! Sometimes I be having some basic-ass cravings but the MIXT Caesar hits the spot. Their dressing isn't overpowering & I love that they aren't stingy with the garlic herb croutons, parm, radishes, avocado, & savory herb trio of parsley, cilantro, & tarragon. Salads are just amazing!! The flavors and quantity are great. The staff is all Hispanic in the mission district which is beautiful to see. However I'm taking away 2 stars because the prices are a bit ridiculous. $20 for a salad is a bit much ($18 + $2 tip). Because of this I don't ever see POC in there. And they are just as deserving of healthy quality living food as their counterpart. I'm blessed to have the ability to dine there but, my partner and I did get some stares from other customers. Maybe because we are brown with tattoos or maybe they liked our outfits lol. But it felt a bit uncomfortable.
