Wanted a fresh sandwich and I went in for the Barn BLT. I love the pesto sauce and the juicy tomatoes! It wasn't busy so there was a lot of seating and it came out of the kitchen really quick.
1. I wanted a fresh green salad with grilled salmon. For $35, the basics should be executed well. 2. My salad had 1/3 of bitter, watery romaine stems that took 15 minutes to remove. I was starving and irritable. 3. Salmon was overdone - rubbery on the outside, dry inside. There was no soft, flaky interior or glossy naturally slightly caramelized exterior or light char on the edges (not always present but always welcome). I normally love salmon and eat it several times a week. This is the first time I have ever returned a salmon dish in San Francisco. The sandwiches I spotted on neighboring tables looked amazing but I won't be back. In a city with hundreds of restaurants worth revisiting, this won't make the rotation.

Usually I'm pretty good about finishing my salads but this one I had to call it quits towards the end. The tuna came in a huge scoop and it was very delicious. Salad was also very well dressed and they didn't over do it. I definitely felt like I had a hearty meal here! Would totally come again!
There is so much variety here and a good amount of vegetarian options. I came for a sandwich, the buratta sandwich was delicious and I had it with the tomato soup it was nice a tad bit too salty. Lots of seeing and very comfortable I would love to come back next time to try the salads they are huge and there were so many Uber Eats drivers coming in and picking up to go orders so I will definitely be back. Service was really quick and they were very kind as we were there at closing, and they let us know that we could finish up eating before we leave so thoughtful!
This review is for pick up. I've been to Blue Barn a handful of time and it never disappoints. Yes, their salads are always on the pricier side but their portions are big so I usually get two servings out of it. I called, placed my order and it was ready within 20 minutes. I also really liked their chipotle-agave dressing (on the side) and a slice of the herb focaccia. I would like to try their Thai Chicken Salad next time I stop by.
I absolutely LOVE Blue Barn! All of the food is so fresh and so delicious! I've only ordered takeout, however I believe the takeout is just as good as dining in. Their steak sandwich is incredible. The service is excellent even for to go orders. All the food is treated with care and has a great presentation. Their salads are HUGE, and I mean HUGE!!! I don't think I've ever been able to finish one! Since I've never dined in, I'm not sure too much about the ambiance, but I've heard from friends it's very welcoming and enjoyable. On the down side, it is a bit expensive. The salads are $18 and sandwiches are $19. A bit pricey. They also have a kids menu for the kiddos. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad and I wished I had more dressing because there was so much salad in my to go box. By the way, their ranch is AMAZING with their tater tots or truffle fries. Highly recommend!
First off the vibes here are great. The interior is super nice and honestly thought it was kept super clean. The staff there is super nice and made me feel welcome for the first time. They also let me know their personal favorites. The truffle sandwich I got was so good. Perfect crunch from the outer layer of the bread but at the same time super fluffy. The truffle wasn't too overpowering and the ingredients were all super fresh. Overall great sandwich!
Food, service, and ambiance can be summed up by saying perfect, warm, mellow. I wandered into the Polk Gulch neighborhood by accident and found what I was looking for here: a lush green salad with tons of good stuff and a perfect amount of vinaigrette that was not overpowering. Plus they serve a few wines! I personally loved the sauv blanc. The rest of the menu looks interesting, healthy, and delicious. Music playing was perfection, and not too loud. It was actually music! Spoke at length to Annette about living in the area, some different sections/districts/neighborhoods with cool and fun vibes, and life in general. She is a delight and an asset to this community. On the first good weather day of our trip I am glad to have found this place just by taking a stroll. Win win win!
Ordered takeout for lunch. They had a lot of salad and sandwiches with build your own options. I went with their classic grilled chicken sandwich with avocado smash. Flexible customization to remove stuff you don't want. Bread is on the dryer side
This location is fantastic. Placed an order for pickup today at lunch. Ordered the Buffalo Fry and some fries. Sandwich and fries both amazing and fresh. Food was ready within 10 mins for pickup so perfect for a small lunch window. Plenty of seating inside if needed.
Wooo Jesus okay. Total was $26.51 for a U-Pick Salad. And no kidding, I know I didn't hit tip. And I look back and said I tipped. I go baby kale, ginger miso dressing, red onions, edamame, Parmesan cheese, sesame, seeds, croutons, with chicken. The take out box is about 5 inches tall with 4 inches width. And they just decided to dump the chicken at the top of the box without mixing it in. Honestly, now I see why people go poor.
The salads here are all amazing - the Thai Chicken is by far my favorite! The salads are definitely ridiculously expensive but they're huge and very filling. The service is quick, but wasn't the most friendly.
Came here to try the tomato soup after seeing a Instagram video of a local for the Marina neighborhood that she was recommended by the manager to try the tomato basil soup. I was taken the order by Erin today, she was so nice; she has a great hospitality made me feel so comfortable as a first timer. The tomatoes soup were pretty delicious, I like the tartness from the tomatoes went well with a sense of pleasant taste from the basil. Definitely will come back for more of that and of course to get their salads! Thank you Erin

Satiating and flavorful salads, not slathered with dressings . I had tuna poke salad and Thai chicken salad. The vibe of the place is very cozy and comforting. Great place for meeting and chatting with your meal-companion. No frill. Service was prompt. One suggestion would be to provided warm toasted bread and options for hot soups to pair with the cold salads. read more

I added avocado to the salad which was a great add. The salad is MASSIVE, Really can serve 2 and for a price of $21+ which is expensive, it's good that it's big. With my French Fries, I got the Bacon Jalapeño Aioli which was GAS. The place is really expensive but the food is worth it. read more

It's not bad. The bread on the sandwich is a little hard, but it's also crisp too. The turkey "clubber" sandwich was filling as well. Nothing outstanding though, just a solid sandwich. read more

Pros: + If you hate salad, Blue Barn will change your mind + Large portions + Quality ingredients Cons: - $30 salad What I Ordered: + U-PICK Customized Salad; 5/5 Mixed greens, arugula, sweet corn, red onions, pumpkin seeds, and steak ($10!) all tossed in their roasted garlic Caesar dressing. Great find for salads and sandwiches. When walking into the casual restaurant, we were warmly greeted with a large smile and kind service. Place your order at the counter and make yourself at home. Your order will be brought to your table. I had the Thai Chicken salad and was more than enough for dinner. I really enjoyed the crispy strips, crunchy peanut slivers and dressing. Next time I may just try the Waldorf Salad. read more
One of my go to places for sandwiches. Got the Turkey and goat cheese and it's delicious! They give you a good amount of turkey and the goat cheese is fresh. My one downside was that they don't really serve you and you have to bus your own tables but they still charge a 5% surcharge fee. read more

Blue barn is a classic SF spot that everyone knows is pricy but pretty good. My wife, and most of SF, love the Thai chicken salad. Many dub it the best salad in the city. I usually get the kickin chicken sandwich which is pretty good, but I've had better sandwiches in the city. Vibes are nice with indoor and outdoor seating (though the booths inside are randomly very tall) and friendly staff. I'm probably just a cheap-o but $50 for a salad and sandwich is just too much for me read more
They area cute little place to get some GREAT BIG and fresh salads. The BLT on ciabatta was great and the fries were just phenomenal. We went one hour prior to closing but the friendly man at the cashier didn't rush us or be rude. They were very friendly and kind. Explained all my million questions and in the end we got a salad,fries, beers and a BLT burger. Hit the spot. There were other patrons there eating or finishing up and a couple of others that came in after us. Everyone was served with respect and nobody got rushed. They have to go containers of all sizes behind the seating area. I wish they had beer on tap but it's not a bar and the choices of beer were fine. read more

Beware: BS fees charged here. You'll have a 5% surcharge plus a mysterious "always taxable" fee applied to your bill and then the tip is calculated including all of that plus the actual tax. The legally required sign disclosing the surcharge in small print is conveniently posted at thigh level so they 100% know what they're doing. Set the menu prices however you need to make things work but if you feel the need to trick your patrons into paying more than what was advertised upfront then you're simply not running a respectable business but a scam. read more
This is one of the best salad spots in SF. Our Pick - The Casbah salad. You should try to come here before 4pm. In the afternoons, this section of POLK is busy and there is NO parking. However, you can order pickup and head down to Marina Green or Fort point for some great views and good eating. Service: Order at the counter. Utensils and water are self served. Cons: Pricey and no parking. We drive from Burlingame just to eat this salad so that should tell you how good it is! read more
$15 per salad in a deep square box and dressing on the side. Some organic drinks and things. The type of box made it challenging to mix the dressing and salad. It was more like eating in layers and pouring dressing over each layer. The salad tasted good and they had generous portions but it was expensive for a salad. Ordered to-go to sit at the adjacent bar to watch some football - and (damn!) this was a quite a "manly" sandwich and salad combo - this was not one of those sandwiches (and may I add on perfectly toasted focaccia) that lacked something, no.. this was perfectly textured and the truffle just right; tomato not too runny; aoli perfection .. The salad --- served in a deep bowl - had lots of ingredients - from arugula to beets to sprinkled grains and goat cheese- I was full. My hubby was impressed too. One unisex bathroom. *~Our order~* Northern Fry Sando: ($17.95) crispy fried mary's chicken breast, barn bbq sauce (no on the poppyseed pickled-onion slaw) on ciabatta roll sauce & poppyseed-pickled onion slaw* on a ciabatta roll Tator tots: $4.75 Side of bbq sauce: $1 The chicken was so thin and barely any bbq sauce so it made the sandwich pretty dry. Luckily we asked for bbq sauce (which they charge $1) for the tots (as well as ketchup) so we could add to the sandwich. I don't like slaw which probably would've added moisture but that's they should've had more bbq sauce. The tots were very good as they were nice and crispy. Would only order this next time if I had to come back here but since there's so many other options nearby, I probably won't return. read more
