Would never return because of the owner. He made a special trip to my table to be condescending and rude because he didn't like that I sent back a drink. (An unusual move when a customer has just ordered a few hundred dollars worth of food and drink at your restaurant). I ordered a lagavulin 16 neat. When it came out, it was watered down and not what I ordered. I've had bottles of this scotch and am familiar with its taste and properties. It typically is a strong smokey scotch with a pungently campfire aroma. This was definitely not Lagavulin. It was weak, tasteless, and a little sweet. The owner insisted I didn't know what I was talking about and reprimanded me loudly in front of my group, and the rest of the customers sitting in earshot. He informed me that he sells multiple bottles a week. I don't think he was being honest. I think he gets away with selling cheap scotch to people he thinks dont know better. Not a great long term business move. The food here isn't bad. The girl who served us was sweet and they were accommodating when it came to where we wanted to sit. (You can probably go here and have a good experience). But if we had not been there to celebrate someone else's birthday I would've left before the food even came, and I will never go back. read more

You never know what kind of service you're going to get at a place that opened up only a few weeks ago, but Prohibition River is already running like a dream with attentive and helpful staff! Ambiance: love the exposed brick , duct work, and reclaimed wood look of the tables. We came on a Sunday night and were seated right by the front of the restaurant where the windows were open and letting in a nice breeze. Love the feeling of alfresco dining without being right on the street where you feel like everyone is looking at you and what you're eating. My friend and I kicked off our meal with two very strong and very delicious cocktails. I felt bad not getting one of the MANY craft beers they had available, but when I saw that the "Rosie the Riveter" had prosecco in it, I couldn't pass it up. My friend opted for the Nyack Gentleman, which I sampled and I don't even like bourbon, but it was delicious and felt so fresh with the blackberries. Our app of fried green tomatoes came out promptly. Again, Prohibition River had me enjoying things (tomatoes) that I don't usually enjoy. They were firm and had a great bite to them, the breading was light and airy and the aioli was perfectly paired. Yummy bite. For the main course I went with the Prohibition Burger. It was chock full of meat on meat action (ground beef with short rib) and the balsamic onion jam married the two perfectly. I think I was audibly going "mmmmm" with every single bite. The fries were plentiful and so fresh and salty - amazing. My friend ordered the crab cakes and she was served 4 mini crab cakes, which was the perfect portion. These weren't your typical loaded up with breading crab cakes, you could actually taste the crab and it was fresh and wonderful. Lastly, as if we hadn't been fatty enough with our meal, we opted for the apple pie eggrolls (and it seemed as it every table around us was doing the same). Such a great twist on apple pie - the eggroll itself was crispy and balanced out softness of the apples. The vanilla ice cream it came with as well was just as delicious. It's hard to do great food, cocktails, service, and decor, but Prohibition River nails it and makes it seem as if they've been doing it for years. Came here for lunch after hiking at Harriman State park. First impression ... why is it so dark in here? We wanted to sit by the windows to get some sunlight, but there was a big reservation coming in so we ended up at a big tall dark booth. No biggie .. I got all the privacy space to myself and my partner in crime. I wanted a burger so .... The Prohibition burger with braised short rib? Yes please! With balsamic onion jam and molten beer cheese ... doesn't it sound delicious? Well .. it was just decent for me. I actually enjoy a burger from Shake Shack a bit more. We had one of the best veggie burgers we have ever had. They actually put portabello mushrooms inside the burger! Wife and I showed up for lunch on a recent Sunday in October. The television over the bar was showing college volleyball. Quite odd. We were given the lunch menu and the brunch menu. The latter had 4 items and they were out of one of them. The waiter also informed us that there were several items from the lunch menu that were unavailable. Unfortunately, they were some of the more interesting menu items (Sriracha Glazed Peanuts, Buffalo Cauliflower Bites, and the Charcuterie Board) Soup of the day isn't offered on brisk Sunday afternoons. Apparently, bread isn't available during brunch. We began with the Pickled Shrimp 'Shots' and an order of the Fried Green Tomatoes. The shrimp was really just pickled shrimp with cocktail sauce served in shot glasses. I wanted the aforementioned bread to sop up the extra cocktail sauce. The tomatoes were quite bland and the bbq aioli needed to be kicked up a bit. My main course was the Prohibition Burger, house ground patty, braised short rib, balsamic onion jam and molten beer cheese on brioche with limp fries and two slices of bread and butter pickles. My medium rare request yielded a well done burger that was quite under seasoned. The cheese and short ribs were hard to find. No free refills on the house brewed iced tea. Too bad! read more

I've been here multiple times in the past and although their drinks and fantastic and the service isn't bad, there is nothing too great about the food. Never have I ever been to a restaurant that charges for the ice in your cocktail. To say this is in poor taste is a complete understatement. After reviewing my bill more closely I contacted the owner who attempted to explain this by saying that the glass has more alcohol in it with the ice. Am I missing something here?????? Will not be returning. It should be noted that the price of the dirty martini also increased by a dollar due to the splash of olive juice to make it dirty. If anything I saved him from adding more alcohol by replacing it with the olive juice. They should have deducted a dollar - that is, if we want to get petty. I honestly do not know of any other establishment that charges for ice in a drink. I thought it was an error and would be corrected however the owner was beyond rude. You know when you're reading a great book and you prolong finishing it because you don't want it to end? That's how the salmon bowl was. I kept putting my fork down because I didn't want it to end. The salmon was sizable and cooked just like I requested. It was sitting on top of cool soft Asian noodles with a bed of crisp cooked strings of cabbage. Even the fresh fruit that came with a kids meal was exceptional and included fresh honeydew cantelope, grapes, and apple. Considering trips to the grocery store are very limited it was such a nice surprise to have what is normally a poorly thought out side be such a sweet healthy treat instead.
