SMOKED BRISKET SANDWICH - $13 Slow smoked brisket, coleslaw & BBQ sauce served on a brioche bun
    Katherine D.

We were in the area and happened to stumble across the Ambulance Brew House. The smoked brisket sandwich caught our eye, and we had to order it! Oh. My. God. It was absolutely amazing. Hands down one of the best brisket sandwiches I've ever had in my life. The brisket was tender and extremely flavorful. I included the coleslaw on top, and it was perfect. An absolute must if you're in the area; I need to come back ASAP!

    Nice beer spot!

I went to the Nanuet Street fair and discovered the ambulance brewery they had Excellent Pilsner beer! I also tried the Octoberfest which was also very good. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The place was small but very nicely decorated. They had a really nice back patio and the street had tables set up. Up the block was a bandstand with a local band playing some really great music. This was a great place for a nice evening. The crowd was awesome and I had a great time. I will be back next year for this annual street fair.

Wings and rib combo w coleslaw. Very heavy on the mayo slaw.

So this place is a little odd. The bar does not have bar stools. Which is fine for me because I love to stand but I like to have the option to sit. When you look at all the people standing at the bar from behind, it almost looks like a bunch of dudes lined up at a urinal. The chairs at the tables are so uncomfortable you almost feel like you HAVE to stand to get away from the butt ache. Food was decent - nothing to party over but still good. Extremely smoky flavor. Bar pie is big. Decent amount of taps but Growler and Gill still has more quantity and more quality beer selection. The beer tastes crisp and clean. You can tell they take care of their place. Overall a good time but I suggest bringing a cushion for you bottom!

The Ambulance Brew House was once a local ambulance core, but has since been converted into a brewpub. I've had it bookmarked since I saw it across the street from my barber, so I went on a Saturday night. They have a large tap selection (20 taps), with many beers I had never heard of. The interior is small, but they have a nice outdoor patio with couches, tvs, and high tables. I picked up a flight from the bar and brought it to their outdoor area, where a waiter took our food order. I did like their house brewed ale, and I like how they served my flight on a chalkboard tray. For food, we got the bangers and mash, BBQ sampler, a bacon with ranch drizzle bar pie, and the campfire dessert pizza. The two pizzas were amazing, but the other items were passable. If you're coming here, stick to the pizzas and beer.

This is a new hangout spot choice of mine. They have a nice front area, and an even nicer back porch with a TV and darts. The place used to be an old ambulance building (hence the name) and they have old pics up everywhere of what it used to look like. They have a very good beer list, a lot of beers that I have not seen in most places. If i was going to order food, I would go with the bar pies, some of the best I have ever had. They are cracker thin, perfectly crispy and small enough to share a bunch of them. You also have to get the campfire pie, marshmallow, nutella, and graham cracker, I have been dreaming of it ever since I first bit into it. The staff was very friendly as well. The BBQ, was nothing to write home about, but it was good. The beans were the best part of the bbq, they had a nice little kick to them I was not expecting.

Cool spot, always a lot of beers on tap and staff is kind. Food is kind of pricey though and somewhat mediocre for what you pay.

Nothing worth eating on the menu, and the staff are more concerned with talking about comic books than beer.

Ask the Community - Ambulance Brew House

    Dog Friendly? Inside or Outside?

We do allow dogs outside on the front porch and in the back beer garden as long as they are leashed. Water bowls are also available upon request.

    Any Vegan options?

    I believe beer is vegan

    Do they have a fireplace?

I didn't see one inside but outside in the Beer Garden there is a long high top table that can seat probably 12 people that has a gas fire down the middle of it.

Anyways. All hearth, no tap. But I've popped a guinny or two here so that's a lie in the more literal term of tap in this scenario. Those who know, know that Hearth and Tap is more than a dive bar. It's a gastropub, of which I've enjoyed from time to time. The food is good. They have good burgers. They have good other stuff. The interior is rustic. It's Smokey from the drizzle and sizzle of cigar smoke. The upstairs rooms are pretty chill. The patio is poppin' with businessmen, businesswomen and locals. Not that I take notice. Nor do I notice them eyeing me down from clavicle to popsicle. Get framemogged son. The moon landing was real and there's nothing you can do about it, narc. Moonmogged. Would be happy to go again. The empanadas would have been very good if cooked a bit longer since they were a bit gummy inside. The shrimp ceviche was served in red sauce and was absent of a decent amount of shrimp. It was tasty but more of a salsa rather than a ceviche. The rib special lacked the promise of the flavors of the chipotle bbq sauce that was promised and described in the menu -- the pork lacked flavor. The chicken Milanese appeared to have been deep fried in a fryer rather than pan fried per tradition. This made the thin slices a bit tough and chewy which was unexpected. Disappointing that I didn't listen to my server who tried to steer me in a different direction as he advised. We haven't been wowed here the last three visits but will give it another shot in a few weeks to see if things have changed for the better. Listen to your servers, people!!

We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.
