This was a great spot to start, get in the vibe and have something to eat. It's friendly and it's relaxed. We sat at the bar and were well served and had a good time. We started off with the jalapeno poppers which were tasty even if they didn't have much hot to them. Five stuffed jalapeno peppers which were tasty but unspicy. The buttermilk dip on the side is great for cooling down the heat but it wasn't needed today. It's super that they pour half pint beers which was a real plus when you're just looking for tastes and not a huge meal. The burgers did look tremendous and well presented with a 6 ounce patty, which is a bit more than a third of a pound making for a big meal. Too much for us on this trip today, but I am sure that I'll be back. [Review 1161 of 2026 - 4810 in North Carolina - 26340 overall]

A hidden gem! We stumbled upon this spot while passing…read morethrough Durham on our way to the beach for Labor Day weekend. We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered and the bartender explained how things work: order at the counter or sit at the bar for full service. We chose the bar. I had a Lakewood Lavender Lemonade and it was so refreshing. The bartender was super kind and it was fun to watch him up close and personal. I ordered a Burger bowl with fries and Gouda cheese sauce. Oh my! The medium well done burger was cooked and seasoned to perfection and sat atop a bed of some really good and guilt-laden fries. I chose to pour the cheese sauce on top and it was a smart move. Definitely check this spot out if you're in Durham or passing through like we were.

Consistently excellent dining experience. For the main, I ordered the standard burger despite several limited-edition options being available (ask about the Hamilton theme!). It was cooked precisely to my specified medium, with a flavorful patty and nice structural integrity throughout. The tater tots were basically as good as they come. We paired the meal with IPAs - Dancing with the Bulls and Bull in a Bottle Shop - both of which held up well against the richness of the food and worked particularly well with the burger. I finished the meal off with the amaretto which provided a balanced finish and was reminiscent of my usual espresso martini without being overly boozy or heavy. Service was friendly and professional as always, and the atmosphere remains a strong point: upscale casual without feeling forced. One of my favorite spots in downtown Durham for so many reasons, and one I'll definitely continue to return to.

Service was quick and our waiter was super enthusiastic and accommodating. We sat outside on the patio area, but there was ample seating inside, both at the bar and at tables. There are couches outside as well as a large connect-4 game you can play. Overall, we had a great experience and have no complaints. Hope to be back soon!

Brewery #455 Atomic…read moreClock Brewing is a very nice place that had very good beer, particularly their hazies. I got a flight of beer and ordered a Beef on Wick with fries. The bartender while nice was kind of flighty, just lacked awareness of the amount of people waiting to get beer. My flight consisted of A Belgian, Schrodinger's Pale Ale, and 2 hazy IPAs. The Critical Mass (DIPA) and Atomichron (hazy) were both phenomenal. Then we waited almost an hour for the Beef on Wick to come out. It's literally just a roast beef sandwich with fries. The food was great, but the wait was insane. Great beer, good food, nice people but just not in any kind of hurry.

So wrong. This place is the absolute worst. It's so unfortunate because the place is beautiful and has potential. I've learned my lesson and there will not be a third time. We attempted to sit at a table for 8 but the chairs are oversized and the tables are far too close together. We had to remove two chairs to even attempt to slide across the chairs because you cannot pull them out to sit down. It's extremely difficult and uncomfortable to have to slide all the way out to let people in and out. Not user friendly at all. I wanted to order a beer but just like last time they didn't have any beer I'd ever drink which is saying a lot as I will drink anything that's not an IPA or super yellow. So I ordered the Rosè margarita but the male bartender told me they were out of that drink. Impossible. I could see both rosè and tequila from where I was standing. A female bartender overheard the male bartender lying to me and she said she would make the margarita for me. Hmmmmmmmm. So one honest bartender and one who lies because he only wants to pour beers. Thanks for solidifying that I was right to say I'd never be back to this awful establishment.
