Came here on a cold winter Sunday evening (cause duh, ice cream is good anytime of the year- debate me :P) for a post-dinner sweet treat. It was my first time here and we wanted to try something new! We came in about 15-20 min before they closed and I got a graham cracker ice cream and then also the banana with chocolate chip. Did. Not. Disappoint. I was a fan of both! Slight more favoritism toward the graham cracker one, I like the graham pieces in the ice cream. I've never been to a Bruster's before until recently and I've been twice already in the last few weeks. I've always lamented that there wasn't a Dairy Queen closer, because I'm a blizzard fanatic but not anymore since I discovered Bruster's and their version of the Blizzard. With countless combinations you can get it "your way" and my way is with chocolate chip cookie dough, nestle crunch and heath bar, which is crazy delicious. I like the texture and that it doesn't melt as fast so you can take your time eating it...or not. Delicious! read more

Yum!!! I love Bruster's ice cream! The staff are always very nice here, and let you sample flavors. I usually get a cone with a few scoops and opt for different flavors because I can never decide on just one! All summer long we were receiving coupons to our home for buy one cone get one free and money off! I have also downloaded the app to get rewards, because who doesn't love saving money and/or getting free ice cream! Brusters is my favorite ice cream parlor. It always taste fresh and sweet. I love the amples amount of flavors they have. The sorbets are definitely my favorite and then mint chocolate chip is the best ice cream. I always go there with my 1 yr old and share a kiddie cup with her. It's also conveniently near my home and by my favorite store, Target! So it's easy for my to shop, then stop by for ice cream. It was ice cream! It was cold! They had some different flavors (orange creamsicle, s'mores inspired Graham cracker flavor) and classics.

We love this location. Our recommended items include the strawberry shortcake (a good, small serving size for one or two people to share) or the ice cream sandwiches. The shop has guidelines for social distancing and isn't usually too busy, which is great during COVID. Additionally, there is a lot of outdoor seating so we usually order and then eat our ice cream right outside the shop. This shop is located in a strip mall so there is lots of parking available. read more

We visited this location for a rare ice cream shop treat. There were customers outside but none in the store. We asked how many scoops were in the large cup. The employee, Cintia, told us there were 4 scoops of ice cream in a large for $5.99. I asked if we could split the large into two separate cups. She said "yes" and that's what she did. At the register she rang up two smalls at $4.99 each. When I reminded her she said we could split the large she said "we can't do that". I told her that was all she had needed to say when I asked and we would have just gotten the one large. Then she said with attitude "so you don't want it?" Her customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I paid for the ice cream because I didn't want to be wasteful but I most likely won't be back. I filled out a customer feedback on the Brusters's website and received a response back from the company saying they were sorry I had a bad experience and they would forward my message to the franchisee. Today I received their response saying they hoped I would return and then stating they don't split their cups. Yeah - I won't be back to that location for sure! read more

Not from North Carolina so I've never heard of Bruster's but when I hear about homemade ice cream I come running! I've been out to Maple View and let me tell you that I think this place is ten times better. Clean and new establishment in Durham right next to Rise. I sampled a couple of their ice creams and found a consistent sweet and creamy texture among all of their flavors. I enjoyed their tiramisu and coffee chocolate chip but the best by far was their Banana Chocolate Chip. This was my first time at Brusters and sadly it went very poorly. I asked the worker, Cintia, how many scoops come in a large and she replied "4 scoops" so I said that I would get two flavors and my mom would get two and we would share the large. My mom asked if we could just get two cups and share it that way and Cintia very clearly said yes we could do it that way. To our surprise, she rung up two smalls instead of a large. My mom asked why she rung it up that way and Cintia then told us that we couldn't do it the way she had just told us was okay to do. So we asked why she didn't just tell us no when we asked if we could split a large in two cups. She literally said "so you don't want it?". Obviously we wanted it... just wish she wouldn't have lied and told us we could do it that way and then charge for two smalls. I've worked in the service industry for years and this was truly shocking to be lied to and then to have her respond "so you don't want it?" instead of fixing the issue she created. Could've been fixed very easily but instead she was rude and had a bad attitude. Due to the atrocious customer service from Cintia, my mom and I won't be back. Super upsetting to be overcharged and lied to especially at a time like this. read more

Yay, there's finally a Bruster's in Durham and right in my neighborhood!! I really like this location because it has indoor seating as well as tables outside. I bet it's going to be packed all summer long cos their ice cream is so good!! They have a great selection of flavors and even some with no sugar added! Bruster's is a creamy ice cream that I discovered several years ago near Charlotte. It was around Thanksgiving and their pumpkin is to die for, but only in the fall. That's ok, this time I tried the toasted coconut and it was incredible!! The employees are super friendly and will let you sample any flavor. A friend who was throwing a party ordered two ice cream cakes - a mint chocolate ice cream with chocolate cake base and an "everything chocolate" with a vanilla cake base. They were both great! The everything chocolate had chocolate pieces, caramel, peanut butter and some crispy brittle - I liked this one more. The cakes were finished to the last bite (and someone was even scooping the crumbs). Tried this place out for the first time and definitely would not return. I got a Turtle Sundae and my friend got their cookie craze ice cream. My Turtle Sundae was super salty and bitter. My friend tried their Birthday Cake ice cream and said it tasted very bitter as well. He then not only found a hair in his ice cream but also found hard plastic pieces in another spoonful he attempted to eat. When we kindly brought it to the attention of the staff all they had to say was sorry, completely disregarded the hair in the ice cream and tried saying the plastic was "some sort of ingredient in the ice cream" and continued to serve the same container, with possible random plastic pieces, to other customers instead of removing it and replacing it with a fresh container.... read more

My kids love the ice cream. It's not my favorite, but it's certainly the most convenient to South Durham. Prices are fair, and the amount of ice cream you get per serving is a lot. They give free ice cream to pint-size kids. They make great birthday cakes. My daughter has requested an ice cream cake from Bruster's for the past 3 birthdays, and they always come out great. A layer of cake, sauce, ice cream, and then ice cream "frosting." They decorate well. One of the owners is almost always there, and the staff is very friendly. Bruster's ice cream flavors are unique and rotate regularly, so there are always new ones to try. My personal favorite is Graham Central Station, if you pair it with a chocolate flavor it's just like s'mores. A "best kept secret" about Bruster's is that they make the most amazing ice cream pies, you need to try one for your next birthday or special event. I've been to a few Bruster's, and they've all been delicious. This particular store was no exception -- and, bonus, they had indoor seating. Many Bruster's are outdoor only. In the heat, being able to grab a seat indoors is a definite plus. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and got everything just right. One other review mentioned the small scoop size. Bruster's in general have fairly small scoops when compared to somewhere like Cold Stones (which isn't really a fair comparison, since they don't do 'scoops' -- they fill up cups), but the scoops we got from this store were no smaller than any of the other locations I've been to. I don't agree with other high ratings. 1st and most importantly I had a very disturbed stomach the evening after having an ice cream around lunch time. Trying to eliminate causes, I suspect something was wrong with the soft non pristine looking ice cream I was scooped earlier that day, although I can not be 100% sure. Regardless, the ice cream was way too soft and not properly frozen for my taste. I much prefer a harder and colder texture / temperature. What I was served was a very small, not too good tasting waffle cone with two small scoops of underwhelming ice cream that cost well in the four dollar range. The value was poor. Other businesses make better tasting ice cream, and I am always gravely disappointed when ice cream cones at home with grocery store ice cream, taste far better than a parlor like this. Service was friendly and professional, but that does compensate for all of the other disappointments... Not worth the trip... read more

my wife and daughter told me about Bruster's. So one sunday we all piled into the minivan and head over to get ice cream. i got peppermint ice cream and all i can say is WOW. that was some great ice cream. staff was very kind and helpful. they took the time to listen to what the kiddos wanted with there ice cream. my son doesnt like ice cream so the suggested something else to him. i am sorry i dont remember what it was called but he loved it. i dont normally tip places like this since they are paid hourly but the young lady was very nice and took the time we need to make sure everyone got what they wanted. we will be returning for some more ice cream i just hope they still have peppermint with tiny pieces of peppermint candy in it. yumm yumm...
