It was everything we wanted out of a late-night ice cream run! We got their mango ice & lemon lime sorbet. The lemon lime sorbet was especially delicious. Wish that they had had a vegan ice cream (instead of just vegan ices, popsicles, or sorbets), but what they had was good, so I can't complain too much! Service was fast, the inside was cute, and there's a bench outside to sit on if it's a nice day. read more

A really cute small hole in the wall that I wouldn't have known about unless someone had told me. Decided to stop here on a Sunday and it may be a little bit difficult to find parking on some days, but we parked across the street. The store itself is pretty small, but they have a lot of different things to choose from and the variety is really awesome. From putting to ice cream to paletas and mangonadas. I got the banana pudding ice cream which was great. My boyfriend was so excited to see they had Arroz con leche Overall, it's a little bit out of the way for us, but I could definitely see us coming back! read more

We love little mom and pop shops like this, especially when they offer us new treats from other cultures. I do recall stopping in a long time ago and getting some ice cream, but on this visit, we just got some rice pudding since we weren't exactly hungry. Service was very friendly and thanked us. We loved this place! The owner was super friendly and welcomed us immediately, there was no line to order and we didn't feel rushed to make a decision while looking at the menu. He let us sample anything flavor ice cream wanted, including tequila ice cream - that is a MUST try. I'm bummed I don't live in Durham to be eating this ice cream more often, but next time we are in town we'll be there! What a great spot for a post-lunch ice cream! I tried a (generous) scoop of Rum Raisin. My lunch buddy tried a scoop of peach. We sat at one of the picnic tables inside and enjoyed our choices. They were delicious! This is definitely going on the rotation of post-lunch treat spots. They had some interesting flavors available. Recommended! read more

Love this little dessert shop. The owners are the sweetest people ever. We love the mangonada but also frequently get pints to take home. We got some pints last night and I got the honey roasted peanut butter and it is SO GOOD. Highly recommend the honey roasted peanut butter and mangonadas! The space is small but they have picnic style tables or you can take your ice cream on a stroll down 9th street or the Duke wall. Perfect location. Great ice cream + desserts. read more

Walking in the door I was hopping that this is what heaven smelled like. I got the Brownie Sundae for $5.99 which consisted of a fresh, soft, warm brownie, topped with two scoops of ice cream, fudge and caramel drizzle, and LOTS of whipped cream. I chose cookies and cream and banana pudding for my two scoops and OMG...the banana pudding was hands down my favorite. Everything I love about banana pudding in a scoop of ice cream! The lady assisting us (owner maybe?) was very friendly, even to the not so pleasant person behind us. I would have never known about this little hidden gem if not for Yelp. A+ for friendly service from a very genuine cashier. Welcoming and warm, this is the type of interaction you want to have when you treat yourself to deserts. C- minus for Mangonada. First time having this Mexican desert, and was willing to pay the higher rate of $6.99 (the small size) for something new as I hadn't had hot sauce, mango sherbet and mango pieces before or spicy sweet tamarind straw. Looks cool but wayyy too much hot sauce. Had mouthfuls of hot sauce instead of sherbet, and had tough time finishing this one. I also normally like spicy sour sweet flavors like the tamarind (similar to li hing mui), but found this one a bit too salty. When I was finishing my Mangonada some of the flavors blended together and it worked, so there's something there. B- minus for menu. Appreciate the pictures, they help a lot. But could show prices more clearly. I didn't notice it but there might be a paper menu outside to help, as I saw it in someone else's photo. Overall recommend for friendly vibes, and seems like a popular spot. Prices for ice cream and pops seem very reasonable. I do regret spending more for a Mangonada. I can't say I recommend this one, however I support Pincho Loco for offering unique flavors. I wish the ice cream menu did have more beyond the classics, or I would have tried those instead! read more

Pincho Loco is an eclectic ice cream joint that has that hole-in-the-wall feel with fantastic flavor options that are a great mix between traditional and daring. Their menu is a bit much to take in and is pieced together over multiple boards so it's kind of a fun game to figure out what you want. I ended up getting their Mangonada since I was craving mangos and spice and this hit the spot. It had a good amount of fresh chopped mangos and sorbet with a tamarind chili straw. Very photogenic too! Aside from ice cream, they also have desserts ready to-go such as rice pudding, tres leches, flan, cake, and more! On the other hand, the Fried Rice is yummy on its own or with the Mapo Tofu. Spring Rolls are a little oily to my liking but are a good vegetarian appetizer option. I will say that this place is always packed, even on weekdays and sometimes the wait staff forgets about you. It took several rounds to get them to take our order, give the food or even get the check at the end. I will try it out next time at lunch time because maybe it is a little faster. My spouse had an Americano and I had the Amalgamation cold brew tea when I saw someone walk by with it. He said it was very tart, but I thought I'd try it anyway. It's Very Heavy on the hibiscus tea, which is all I could taste, in spite of lemongrass, peppermint, orange peel, and cacaco nibs being in it too. I had some honey added, but that wasn't enough to temper the tartness so added some sugar, which only had a little effect. It wasn't until I added some half and half that it became better. That's my taste buds. Anyone else's may be different, but with or without the cream, it's a very pretty drink. We brought the cinnamon roll home to have later, but it smells divine. BTW, I love the small tables. Colorful and very intricately painted.

This is our favorite bakery in the area for several reasons. There is a wide variety of baked goods…read moreto choose from and nothing is too sweet. They make cookies, pastries, breads (pan loaf and hand-formed ones), soups, hand pies, and sandwiches. The variety is amazing. During the holiday season, they offer larger pies and have various seasonal goods to offer. But what's also wonderful is this bakery gives back to the community in many ways. During the height of the pandemic, they offered free bagged lunch to anyone who needed one. They also were (are?) part of the pilot project for Durham's guaranteed income. It looks to me that the owners/company are concerned about being good citizens of the community and that's a great thing. These days, so many companies get bought out by private equity companies. I hope this bakery continues to be locally owned and operated! (Also, generally this bakery isn't offering the very fancy European/European-ish style pastries which is fine by me. The prices are very reasonable, possibly in part because they aren't trying to make their baked goods a "high end" item. There are other good local bakeries that offer "high end" pastries, but they are also much less affordable and for my taste, too rich.)
