We went on a Friday night and honestly I guess that was the mistake. We waited in line for like 15 to 20minutes and honestly, it was pretty disappointed with the lack of variety of flavors. They had a grand total of like 6 that I could see on the machines. On top of that the smallest size was almost 5 dollars. Overall, the chocolate one was good, but it was just as good as chocolate ice cream you'd get at a tub at the store. Personally, I probably wouldn't be back just because there are so many other options for frozen treats without the wait and better quantity for price. They had a cute ambience and it was pretty clean- I think it's just a little bit overrated like most of the old places have become hallmarks of Chapel Hill Franklin st. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's that great in my opinion. I will say I do want to give them credit that they always have coupons and sales going on which I do think that that is a great way to bring in business. read more

This is a one of a kind hole in a wall place for sure! I have never seen a place serve fro-yo the way these guys do. You get to pick a cup size, then pick how many flavors you want in it and then choose some toppings. The server fills the cup for you so you dont pay by weight, instead they habe fixed prizes by cup/flavours/toppings. We chose to get cheesecake and strawberry with no toppings and loved it. We got the medium and was sufficient to satiate our sweet tooth without being too heavy. The server was very kind and heled us in deciding what we wanted and narrow down our choices. Yogurt Pump (aka YoPo) is a Tar Heel tradition! This is not a self serve/pay by weight yogurt and toppings place, FYI. I chose the vanilla base and added strawberries and cheesecake bites. They had a solid selection of toppings, along with I believe 8 frozen yogurt base options. The guy taking orders was nice and friendly. My only complaint about YoPo.... I wish they would layer the toppings! I got a medium and the bottom 3/4 of my yogurt didn't have any toppings. Thankfully it was still delicious on its own, but I think layering the toppings would for sure take this to 5 stars! read more

Glad we had a chance to visit on a recent vacation to Chapel Hill. Seems like a local institution. Our group shared the oreo, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and cookie dough flavors. All were very tasty, and we'd definitely go again on a future trip. The toppings we tried all tasted really fresh. One thing to note is that it's more like soft serve, at least compared to frozen yogurt we're used to in California, which tends to be less sweet, more tart and yogurty. Yogurt Pump has made me realize that I probably won't be going to any other froyo place. Normally, I'd choose ice cream or gelato over froyo, because a lot of chain froyo places serve very icy, watery froyo. Not the case with Yogurt Pump. Their yogurt is so creamy, that it almost tastes like gelato. The servers are also super nice about letting you sample all the different flavors before ringing you up. I got the cheesecake flavor my first time coming here, and I was blown away with how light and flavorful it was. The small size was just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth without making me super groggy or heavy from all the sugar. I love/hate that it's local to North Carolina. The place has a cute hole-in-the-wall charm; unfortunately, that means I won't be able to get more froyo unless I'm visiting my friend in NC. Good flavors / cheap price / convenient location - I think that sums up this place well (not self serve) Came here for a quick dessert option after brunch and was pretty good. Its tucked away on the side of the building, so it can be missed easily. The place inside is tight and cozy, I can imagine that it fills up quick on a hot busy day but when I was there it was practically empty. It isn't a self serve froyo place which is fine but does take some of the fun out of making your own little bowl of froyo. Short list of flavors but they have a wide spectrum of what you'd expect. I split mine between vanilla and cookies and cream. In terms of taste, it was really good, not overly sweet but just right. The only odd thing is that they serve it in a vertical cup instead of a bowl. In my opinion bowls make it much easier to put toppings on and just makes it more presentable. My favorites are: Irish Mint (which they no longer make), Grasshopper (a minty and chocolaty flavor), pumpkin pie (seasonal - and DELICIOUS), snickerdoodle (cinnamon flavored), and most of their berry flavors. And it's all at unbeatable prices. A child cup is enough for one person, and it's only $1.50 + tax. Small waffle cone is more than enough, but if you like waffle cones, I would highly recommend it: $2.53 + tax. Yes, it's cash-only, but with those kind of prices, it's an inconvenience that can easily be overlooked. read more
