Watermelon Taffy
Kenny N.

I heard a lot of rave reviews about Jeni's, so I decided to stop by for a sweet treat. During the summer, they had a collaboration for opaque, a black fudge ice cream and cone. Interestingly, the cone was available separately. I ended up getting a scoop of the watermelon taffy with the opaque cone. The watermelon taffy itself was the perfect blend of sour and sweet with a fragrant watermelon scent. The cone itself was a bit of a disappointment, being on the tough and chewy side. Perhaps the cone was stale, or maybe undercooked, but it did not have the crispy waffle texture I was expecting. Overall, I would say that the ice cream is worth the visit, but I'd pass on the cone next time. Pros: Many unique seasonal flavors. Friendly service. Cons: The cone I had was either stale or undercooked.

Honey Lavender, Citrus Glazed Pound Cake, Raspberry Rhubarb Delight

Had a nice time at this new Jeni's location that recently opened at Chapel Hill University Place! Went around 7:30 pm on a weekday and just barely beat the rush - was surprised to see that in just a few minutes, the line was way out the door. There's really only seating outdoors, so I would be mindful of the weather. The green turf space outside is beautiful with string light decor and porch swings which would be perfect as a casual spot on a warm night to enjoy ice cream. Plenty of lot-parking makes it feel more accessible than the downtown Durham location. Tried 3 different flavors in a waffle bowl: -Citrus Glazed Pound Cake (spring flavor) was definitely citrus-y but not quite specifically as strong in lemon flavor as I was hoping for with the lemon icing glaze. It also had some unexpected herbal undertones to me. The yellow pound cake chunks mixed in were a nice addition! -Raspberry Rhubarb Delight (spring flavor) was sweet and tart, with layers of raspberry jam mixed throughout. I would say it was pretty spot-on as described. -Honey Lavender was a lovely berry/fruity-forward sweet flavor with a touch of lavender. A favorite! The buttercrisp waffle bowl was delicious, provided a perfect savoriness to complement the sweetness and stayed crispy at the end even with the melted ice cream in it. Price is a tad on the steeper side. However, a great spot to try unique, fun flavors (especially if you're into fruity ones, which I think they do well and distinguishes them from other places). Most of their selections have few toppings inside so if you're looking for ice cream that's smooth and no-frills where individual flavors shine through, be sure to check out Jeni's!

Signature waffle Bowl with Tropical Bloom, Brambleberry Crisp, and Coffee With Cream & Sugar.

Ambience: casual and family friendly atmosphere! We made it just before the down pour and it was great! We even got to sit outside with our pup in the cute modern patio seating! I can definitely see this as a cute lunch dessert date area! It's so cute inside and out! Service: was quick and helpful. You can sample the many different ice creams before you make your decision. Icecream: there's so much to choose from! And their gluten free and dairy free options are much more diverse than most Icecream parlors! So that's a plus! We got one waffle cone and one waffle bowl. On the cone was the Wild-berry Lavender on top, Raspberry Rhubarb Delight middle, and Citrus Glazed Pound Cake on bottom. The Wild-berry Lavender was good, but I couldn't taste the lavender in it and was more berry. The Rhubarb was really good. Sweet with a bit of tang. The Citrus Poundcake was more like lemon cake flavored. But it was still nice and had the cake chunks in it. In the waffle bowl was the tropical Bloom left, brambleberry crisp right, and Coffee with cream and sugar on bottom. The tropical bloom was a bit perfumey but full of tropical fruit punch flavor. The brambleberry was one of the favorites with the berry swirls and the cookie crisps in it. And the coffee was not too sweet but also not too bitter. It was a nice balance. The waffle cone and bowl were thick and perfectly crunchy with just the right amount of sweetness. All the ice creams including the gluten free and dairy free options were thick, smooth, and creamy. Perfectly made Icecream. Overall will come again!

I have never seen a line out the door for ice cream Ever but there's a first for everything and that was today on a Friday night. Despite the long line, others did not seem to mind?? and there were fortunately 4 workers. Despite the business, the customer service was excellent. They greeted and offered samples, not rushing you but still being quite efficient. There's no indoor seating but lots of cozy outdoor space. While being on the pricier side for the size, the flavors and texture is great. The fall flavor miso butterscotch brownie didn't disappoint in the slightest. For the regular flavors, as someone who typically doesn't care about chocolate chip cookie dough I was infatuated with double dough. The brown sugar custard base is a game changer.

Two scoops

I honestly was looking forward to my visit. I normally go to the Durham location but I settled for Chapel Hill since I was in town. I was highly disappointed in the amount of ice cream I received. The staff was fine and explained that per orders by management they could only give golf ball size scoops. And no bigger. Wow for almost 8 bucks I expected better. I won't be back to this location.

It's a Sunday evening and the line is out the door again. This place is so popular and the kids and adults alike love it. The lavender flavor ice cream is popular. Cone or cup one can't go wrong here. The outdoor space is SO amazing. They need this everywhere in the area for folks to enjoy. The weather is perfect outside and everyone is having a great time.

Stepped out of 93 deg into bright sweet air. Ordered brittle almond half and milky chocolate half. First time visitor. Wonderful texture and excellent flavors.

Great service & ice cream!! Lots of easy parking & lovely area to sit & eat your sumptuous treat. Well worth the trouble to drive to chapel hill. Nice server & manager & very clean looking.

Good but not great especially for the price. The outdoor seating space is really nice.

I've been coming to Jeni's for several years, dating back to when I lived in Columbus, Ohio (where…read morethe original brick & mortar was). The ice cream is unlike anything else I've ever had. Jeni always has unique flavors (along with the staples of vanilla and chocolate)- there is something for everyone! Definitely consider mixing and matching flavors (they allow you to do 1, 2, or 3 half scoops for that purpose). No matter what store front you walk into, the smell of freshly baked waffle cones will hit your nose instantly. Signature trademark of Jeni's (to me). I love that you can get a cone, waffle bowl, or just a triangle sample of a waffle in your bowl! The flavors are always changing, from season to season, with a few main ones always in the store. The ice cream is smooth and velvety- while several have an added texture, depending on what's mixed in (cake, brownie, caramel, etc). The store always has a line, but it moves fast!! Some of my absolute favorite flavors include the gooey butter cake, salted caramel, and double dough. They offer both dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream. Customer service is friendly, and they don't mind at all if you sample a bunch of different flavors! Love that you can buy pints here to go (and that I'm seeing them in retail stores like Publix now)!

I got a waffle cone with Double Dough which is chocolate chip cookie dough swirled into a buttery brown sugar custard. It was cookie dough perfection! The ladies working the ice cream counter were so friendly and got the line moving quickly.
